Once upon a time there was a little Mantis. She aspired to become the strongest in the land. She knew that she would have to train hard to be able to achieve her dream.

And so she made her life all about training. Any chance she had, she would prepare her body to become the strongest in the land. She would take on any challenger, and got into a lot of trouble as a result of her reckless ways.

One night she found herself in plenty of trouble, but it seemed that good fortune had smiled upon the little Mantis. A magical cat blessed by the stars had happened upon her path, giving her more strength than she had before. This made the little Mantis' pride swell up, thinking this was the way to finally achieve her dream. All she had to do was continue to train and she would conquer any obstacle in her path.

As time passed, the little Mantis happened to come across a few others she considered her friends.

One was a beautiful Crane, elegant and kind. Despite the brash mannerisms of the little Mantis, the Crane stayed by her side, wishing to protect the little Mantis from the big world.

Another was an eloquent Snake, with a silken tongue and enchanting eyes. The Snake feigned a desire to learn to fight like the little Mantis. Naturally, the little Mantis' pride puffed up and she agreed to assist the Snake in becoming stronger.

Time passed, and the little Mantis grew close to her student, the Snake. Others had warned the little Mantis that befriending the Snake was dangerous, but the little Mantis refused to believe the warnings.

One night, the Shadows revealed the Snake's true intentions for the little Mantis. The Snake just wanted to keep the little Mantis as her pet, nothing more.

The little Mantis was furious and foolishly confronted the Snake. The Snake wrapped up the little Mantis, strangling the little Mantis before consuming the little Mantis.

And this is where our story begins...

Whatever Mistress desires

Name: Mantidae

Nickname: Galena will sometimes call her "Manti" or other adoring pet names. Only Galena can call Mantidae pet names.

Blood Type: It is green

Favorite Food: Starseeds are tops! Energy is second place.

Hated Food: Nothing else will do!

Hobbies:

  • Sharpening Technique - Mantidae is a tool that likes to keep herself sharp. Much like how certain wild animals will keep their claws sharp, Mantidae can be observed doing similar activities to keep her own odd claws sharp. However, her "sharpening" rarely stops at just the claws she has. Many times she can also be observed practicing various fighting styles she had picked up when she was a human. However, it is no longer from a passionate desire to be the best fighter, it is simply to keep the techniques fresh in her mind.

  • Man-Eating Huntress - Mantidae rather enjoys being let loose upon the Surface, since that is where she can truly unwind. If Mantidae is on the surface without Galena, Mantidae makes a habit out of hunting down whatever males she can find. For some reason, the females do not seem to appeal to her when it comes to the hunt.

  • Ornate Hairsticks - Perhaps it is the instinct to push her own abilities that lead to this hobby, but Mantidae seems to get a weird joy out of putting more ornate hairsticks in her hairstyle. The more there are, the more difficult it becomes to use her ability, and the better Mantidae has to get at using her skill. If someone is wearing some pretty sticks in their hair, there is a good chance Mantidae will be eyeballing and scheming up a way to get those pretty objects all for herself.

Virtues:

  • Precise - Mantidae does not beat around the bush. If there is something that needs to be said, it will be said, and it will be exact. If she is given an order, she will follow through perfectly on her end. She continually practices her fighting styles so she can have perfect control of her movements in a combat scenario. Where as Antiope may have had some imperfections, Mantidae has eradicated those flaws to become the best tool she can be to Galena.

  • Fearless - None could have accused the former Antiope of being scared of death. Now that it seems that this option has been completely removed from the realm of possibility, Mantidae can go forth without any worry at all. She will take on any undertaking, no hesitation, no matter how impossible. If Galena were to legitimately use Mantidae as a meat shield, Mantidae would easily take up that position. Regeneration is a blessing upon the nerves.

Flaws:

  • Man-Eater - There is no easy way to say it: Mantidae is sexist. Females will always be seen as superior to males, and she doesn't do a thing to hide this preference. If she had to pick between listening to the conflicting orders of a General-King versus a General-Queen, Mantidae will always pick the General-Queen. Even if she is forced to follow orders from a male of a superior rank, there is a good chance she will still give the male a much more difficult time than if the order was from a female.

  • Ruthless - There is no such thing as sympathy. With her lack of fear, Mantidae's ability to understand it in others is severely lacking. She will tend to torture that the Negaverse agents might not be able to stomach. She will cut a civilian's throat just to slow them down so she can get their starseed. The blood doesn't bother her, even if it is messy. If there is a task that is deemed too gruesome for a person, then give the task to the youma. Few can tolerate being at the youma's side with her lack of humanity, but as far as she is concerned, there is no room for the weak. Mantidae might not understand the problem, but when one has lost her humanity, only Chaos can exist.

Physical Description

  • Eyes - Jade green eyes with sickly yellow sclera. Frequently she can be seen with eyes as narrow as the former Jun Kwan.
  • Hair - Dark green, on the verge of black. Two hollow protrusions sit upon her head where braided buns used to sit, and from the base of those, dangling braids trail down to about her shoulders. Piles of fancy hair sticks and ribbons adorn the base of the braids.
  • Face - Typically, she wears a mask to cover the lower portion of her face. However, when she pulls it down, it is quite a kissable face. She also now has two functioning antennae about the level of her former eyebrows.
  • Body - Overall, her body is much like an overly complicated green Asian Ball Jointed Doll. It seems deceptively soft at certain points, but the whole body is solid (much like the resin of the BJD). Her upper arms have some spines upon them, and her hands are no longer like the typical hands, each consisting of a blade with an opposable thumb. She is still only 59 inches tall.

Unique Abilities

  • Cut Cut Cut - What once had been hands have now become legitimate weapons. Rather than each hand having an opposable thumb and fingers, instead Mantidae now has an opposable thumb and a long blade approximately 24 inches in length. Though it is a part of her body now, each blade has a strength that rivals a good solid metal. Each blade is sharp and permanently a part of Mantidae. Physical ability

  • The Deadly Stillness - Mantidae now has a rather unique ability that relies upon staying still. For some reason, if Mantidae is able to stay completely still, it is much harder to notice her. She does not gain camouflage or change colors to blend into her surroundings. Rather, it is just harder to pinpoint where she is. The effect remains in tact as long as she is completely still (since if she isn't moving, she can't do anything else to take advantage of the effect). This ability can only work on her prey one time per battle, but one time is all she needs. Special ability

Basic Youma Abilities

  • Regeneration - As a youma, Mantidae can be killed by senshi, knights, or other causes, but she will regenerate within a few days deep in the Rift. Whenever Mantidae is destroyed, her bonded General, Galena, will be alerted. The only permanent death Mantidae can experience is at the hands of any 4th stage character (Senshi Royals, Dark Royals, Royal Knights and General-Kings/Queens).

  • Summoning/Dismissal - As a bonded youma, Mantidae can be summoned by Galena straight from the Rift with a minute or two of concentration. She will suddenly appear wherever Galena happens to be at the time of summoning (that is, Mantidae cannot be summoned to somewhere other than Galena's current location). She cannot be summoned by anyone else. If her General needs to or she has run out of energy, Mantidae can be dismissed back to the Rift in just the same way.

During an emergency, Galena can expend a sudden burst of energy to act as a flare, bringing her partner from the Rift in an instant. The cost is equivalent to a General teleporting.

  • Limited Surface Time - Mantidae draws her power from the Rift and, being a General's youma, can stay "above ground" for 4-6 hours at a time before needing to return to rest. She could devour a starseed for a bit of extra energy but not much beyond her time limit. If she decides to use glamor to appear as she once was, you can cut the time "above ground" to 1-2 hours.

  • Submission - Because she is a youma, Mantidae is forced to obey the commands of anyone at General rank or higher. She cannot disobey unless the command is overridden by someone of a higher rank. Captains and Lieutenants cannot order Mantidae to do anything though they can gain her cooperation if they ask nicely (and gain Galena's permission). Mantidae's command hierarchy is as follows:

General-Queen (overrides) --> General-King (overrides) ---> Galena (overrides) --> Every female General ---> Every male General

Name: Jun Kwan

Nickname: JK, and by the idiotic populace, many will mispronounce her first name as "June" rather than "Juhn" like it is actually pronounced.

Age: 19 years

Birthday: April 8

Sign: Aries

Gemstone: Diamond

Blood Type: A

Fav. Food: Protein! She's not picky about how she gets it, as long as she gets it!

Hated Food: High sugar foods! So useless!

School: St-Magsdalena's Seminary

Hobbies:

Challenger Accepted! - Jun has trained in the martial arts and the sport of Wushu growing up. She was taught that violence was not the way to solve her problems, but for some reason that lesson never really stuck. She wants to prove she is the best fighter out there, and sitting on her hands and doing nothing won't prove it. Such a viewpoint has led to her hanging around at the park picking fights. She won't pick on just anyone, but someone she suspects is tough. This hobby is what landed her at St. Mags, but some hobbies just won't die!

Training - Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And when Jun loses, she goes back to training. Her training consists of strengthening, endurance, and form. The gym is her friend, but the rest of the world can be just as much of a friend. A jog through the streets, hanging from a tree at the park to do pull ups, and even just finding a spot on the school's campus to practice stances are just instances of how seriously Jun takes training. There are many styles of wushu to train in, including (but not limited to) Chanquan and Nanquan, so sitting idle won't hone her skills.

OH MY GOD IT'S JACKIE CHAN!! - The big names in martial arts have a fangirl named Jun! Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and Jet Li are the top of her list. If she isn't out bettering herself, she is admiring old videos of these fine individuals, studying their movements and envying their skills. The friends she has have become quite accustomed to her odd panda plushies named La and Zy. Forget fangirling over pretty actors, martial artists are where it's truly at!

Tea Meditation - The key to tranquility for Jun is found in tea. For her, it's not about the tea flavors, but it is simply the act of drinking the tea that soothes her. For Jun, it is a sort of personal meditation, no matter where she is. In public at a cafe, or in her dorm, it doesn't matter. It's an enjoyable activity, and she is happy to share! On rare occasion, she will practice the art of preparing matcha as a break from her training.

Virtues:

Eager -- Any task that Jun takes on with great energies. She is enthusiastic about it, even if it isn't something she necessarily wanted to do. The fact she is doing something rather than nothing is all the motivation she needs. Jun will become fully invested, wanting to do her best, which makes her easier to work with. She might not be the best at what she is attempting to do, but one can only give her an A for effort.

Tenacious -- Jun can be kicked to the ground, but nothing can keep her down. She'll just keep getting up and trying again. Her determination prevents her from quitting. So society (and school) tells her that her method of testing her abilities isn't socially acceptable? She'll keep it up until she gets arrested for assault, and even then Jun probably wouldn't give up on her goals. She might be seen as physically strong, but her true strength is her determination.

Flaws:

Overly Competitive -- Competition isn't a bad thing. However, when it seems to be all one lives for, it can be a bit of a detriment. Jun LIVES to compete against others, and she can't tell when she's taken anything too far. Sometimes friendships will dissolve just because Jun couldn't take a step back and realize that she took any miniscule competition way too far. She will put on the blinders and just assume she won, oblivious to the real losses.

A need to prove herself -- Despite having things she's good at, they are never good enough in her mind. Her constant need to prove herself is driven by the fact she has a low self esteem. It might seem like a strength at times, but it really is a curse. The only sense of comfort that Jun can get is if someone acknowledges her skills and praises her on them. Otherwise it feels like torture to know that she works and works and works and never gets the recognition that she feels she deserves. It is frustrating not just for herself, but for those around her, who are constantly pressured into giving false compliments. One or two compliments are easy enough, but Jun needs to constantly be reminded of how amazing she is.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Good luck seeing them! Her eyes are quite narrow, making it extremely difficult to see her eye color. Think "Kitsune" eyes.

Hair: Dark green, on the verge of black. Typically in braided buns with dangling braids trailing down to about her shoulders.

Face: Frequently smiling. Healthy tanned skin, but no other notable features.

Body: The girl did not even graduate to 60 inches, stuck at 59 inches (or 4'11") in height. She is well toned due to her constant working out and practice of the different martial arts.

Clothes: Outside of her school uniform, she usually picks to loose training and sparring clothes. Various styles. Frequently seen barefoot.

Senshi: Antiope, Senshi of the Mantis

Challenge: Wanna fight?

Fighting Style: A heavy reliance upon Northern Praying Mantis style, but an occasional addition of other styles. Heavily reliant upon offense with less emphasis upon defense.

Attacks: These are your senshi's abilities, which will be used in battle. These abilities correspond to your senshi's element. Think of it as a "summary" of what your senshi can do in one word.

Sailor Scout Attack: Antiope Vicegrip!
Antiope points at the opponent and makes one downward motion to set this attack in motion. Once the opponent has been selected, they will feel as if they are being restrained by the neck, like in a headlock. It solely restricts the opponent's movement for 20 seconds, leaving them open for attack. This skill can be used 3 times in one battle.

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Antiope Scythe!
Antiope points at the opponent and then makes one cut-throat motion to set this attack in motion. Once the opponent has been selected, they will feel as if they are being restrained by the neck, like in a headlock. It still restricts the opponent's movement for 20 seconds, leaving them open for attack. However, as the time passes for this attack, a small sharp pain will run about the neck restraint. Small cuts will appear upon the neck at the end of the 20 second interval. This skill can be used 2 times in one battle.

Eternal Sailor Attack: Antiope Guillotine!
Antiope points at the opponent and then makes a cross-symbol with both of her arms to set this attack in motion. Once the opponent has been selected, their whole body will be stuck in place for 20 seconds. At the base of the neck a sharp pain will start, debilitating the opponent. There will be no physical wounds from this attack, but the opponent will feel great pain and will be left open for attack. This skill can be used 1 time in one battle.

[Entry in Galactic Almanac]

The world of Antiope was a deceptively beautiful land. It was a tropic land with many species of plants, ranging from flowers to bamboo to fields of rice. The land was a largely self sufficient asteroid with its own well known secrets.

Antiopian Landmarks:
  • Bamboo Forest - A good quarter of the world was covered by this large forest. Several villages were located within the shelter of the Bamboo and utilized the natural resource for building sturdy homes and effective weaponry.
  • The Farm Lands - Though there were several across the asteroid, approximately another quarter of the world was effectively used for farming purposes. Several were dedicated to the staple food, Rice, but other smaller farms were utilized for various spices, fruits, and vegetables. Crops rarely had to worry about insect pests, since each farm had their own native population of predatory mantises which allowed crops to prosper.
  • The Praying Falls - Located West of the Antiopian Palace were three waterfalls surrounded by a natural garden of sorts. It was rumored that those who confess their love at the Falls would have a bond that could never be broken.
  • The Antiopian Palace - The most recent sovereign of the world resided in this grand palace located in the Capital of the world. It was built in the classic style of the Imperial Chinese Palaces (from Earth). It could serve as residence for up to 500 guests. Though most times the guests were dignitaries from other worlds, it was occasionally used to house the soldiers that were traveling through the capital.
  • Royal Bath House - A large addition to the Antiopian Palace that was built over natural hot springs. It served as a tourist attraction and brought in vast amounts of revenue for the Antiopian populace. It was able to house 100 guests at a time. The women who work the bath house tend to be the most hospitable and charismatic, making any guest feel at home. No task was beneath a Bath House employee when it came to the customer's satisfaction. It was not uncommon for an interested foreigner to receive intimate attentions from the Bath House staff.
  • NOTE: Every region of this world had some species of Mantis native to it.

The Native Antiopians:
The native population of the asteroid of Antiope was rather similar to the populations found on Earth that are designated as Asian in decent. Typically their skin tone had a sort of faint yellowish hue, though the skin tones could be light or dark, depending on the region they lived in. Usually the native population had dark hair colors, though very rarely a native could be born with lighter hair colors.

Upon first glance, it would seem odd that an astounding 95% of the population was female, with a dwindling 5% of the natives being male. However, these numbers were artificially influenced due to the spiritual beliefs of the natives, which actually led to the females reducing the number of males in their region to minimal numbers.

As a note, many of the natives would have also considered the various species of Mantis native to their world to also have counted as part of their village. The Mantis was highly respected to the point of being considered a part of the population.

The Antiopian Culture:
It was a well known fact during the Silver Millennium that the Antiopian World was essentially a Cult society that worshiped the Mantis. The natives took many lessons from the insect, including the martial arts and interaction between the different sexes. Their beliefs made the world a very dangerous place for any male to visit and was typically treated with much caution. They were commonly labeled as Amazons based upon their beliefs (not so much based upon physical stature).

Antiopians were considered rather harsh in their treatment of males. Foreign males were typically slaughtered as unwanted invaders, with their remains being put on display in warning. The native Antiopian males were treated as a slave class all their life from the moment they were born, subservient to the superior female. Male children were raised as slave labor, and upon puberty there were three options for how to tend to their fates:

  • Slave Labor - The kindest of the fates which allowed them to flee the land they were raised/abused with their lives in tact. Most of the slaves were sold to other worlds as exports, since the Asteroid Antiope had the male children to serve their slave needs.
  • Breeding Studs - The fate which was best for the survival of the Antiopian populace, though not kind to the male. Upon puberty, if the male showed physical promise, they would ritualistically have their eyes gouged out and forced to serve as seed donators for procreation. They were typically put into a dungeon style living quarters and were given the bare minimum to survive for several years.
  • Sacrifice - The cruelest fate for a male was in fact the most common practice. Frequently a male would be slaughtered upon puberty, and their blood would be used to "bless" the various crops.

Sending a male dignitary would have been considered an act of war, and frequently the male dignitary would end up forfeiting their life as a warning to the outside universe.

The Antiopian women were very self sufficient, taking on many jobs that men would take on in other societies. They could work the farms, build homes, create weaponry, and even serve as soldiers. Due to how well they were able to take care of themselves, the women felt no desire to leave their world. It was theorized many refused to leave the asteroid because of the fear that exposing themselves to male dominated societies would ruin their world-view.

The way courting tended to work typically relied on women to relocate to other villages after they found the woman they wanted to settle down with. This was largely due to the fact each village had maybe 1-2 breeding studs at most, and relocating to another village would reduce the chances of "sharing a father" with their child.

Social Hierarchy:
  • Sovereign - The Royal blood of the world. The leader of the cult society who was treated as sacred.
  • Senshi - Served directly under the Sovereign as the Captain of the Guard. Though fate was responsible for the position more than actual capability, the Senshi of Antiope was given rigorous training the moment they were discovered, creating the most capable warrior on the world. She was constantly traveling, scouting the land and assisting in the lesser advantaged villages as needed.
  • Mantis - The Mantis was considered a sacred insect and was the physical embodiment of the Antiopian principles. They were highly valued in the society, frequently kept as free roaming pets.
  • Soldiers - Trained in combat, they served under the Captain of the Guard. Much like the Senshi of Antiope, they traveled constantly, scouting the land and assisting the lesser advantaged villages as needed.
  • Villagers - Much of the world lived their lives in their villages, simply maintaining a basic lifestyle. The women could be farmers, builders, artisans, metal smiths, or whatever else they were capable of doing. They lived the simple life, and they could not ask for anything more.
  • Children - This was comprised of both the female and male children. There was a sort of hierarchy amongst children, with the females being superior and the males being treated as slave laborers, but both were still considered the same class until puberty. Upon puberty, the females went up in social class, and the males, if permitted to live, would go down in social class.
  • Men - The only surviving men in the society were the Breeding Studs. They were not even treated as Human or Mantis, given the bare minimum to survive and kept in dungeon like environments. Many of the Breeding Studs typically wished for death due to the quality of their life being so miserable.

Antiopian Intergalactic Policies: Antiopians were quite content staying to themselves and living their lives with their ideals. However, this did not mean they were unfriendly to other worlds. It was true that men were not welcomed and in fact typically murdered if they set foot on the world. However, the foreign women were welcomed with open arms. As long as the dignitaries were women, foreign exchange and alliances could be formed. The Antiopian Women were typically hospitable to the foreign women, and most times the foreigners were encouraged to go to the Royal Bath House for the most supreme pampering.

Antiopian Economy: Antiopians used a currency that could be likened to gold coins (though the metal was not actually gold, despite being similar). The currency was called Odea, usually formed into coins with a hole in the center for easier storage upon a belt or sash. Foreign currencies could be used on Asteroid Antiope, though a native typically would have to calculate the value of the foreign currency to the native currency.

Exports:
  • Male Slaves- The male children who were not used for breeding studs and were not sacrificed were trained early to become servants. They were rather obedient and typically shipped off before puberty. It was a blessing for the male slaves to be used as an export, for it ensured a better quality of life.
  • Teas - Tea was a common crop in the Farm Lands and a staple in Antiopian society. In turn, it was easy to use for trade with other willing worlds.
  • Rice - Rice was another common crop in the Farm Lands and a staple in Antiopian society. In turn, it was easy to use for trade with other willing worlds.
  • Spices - More specialized Farm Lands were utilized for growing different sorts of spices. It was more difficult to grow, but the results were usually more valuable than the more basic crops.
  • Odea - A precious metal only found on Antiope. It was typically mined using the young male slave population as the labor. It could be exported as the raw material, or it could be exported as a polished product (such as jewelry). Odea was a soft metal, so using it for weaponry was not ideal unless mixed with a more solid metal.

Imports:
  • Silk - Even though it was a foreign style of cloth, it was highly coveted by the Antiopians due to how soft the cloth was.
  • Various Metals - Though Antiopians had a small number of mining areas upon their world, they preferred to import the metal they used for weaponry and jewelry.
  • Various Gemstones - Similar to the Metal that was imported, the Antiopians also imported gemstones to be used for jewelry and decorative weaponry.
  • Livestock - Though there were other creatures beside the Mantis on Antiope, the Antiopians were quite open minded when it came to trying new meats and produce. The farmers were willing to tend to the new beasts. Some would survive and thrive, and some were not able to cope with the climate. Keeping as much livestock as they could handle made for a good selection of food for the Royal Bath House.

Note for now:

  • The girl who was born as Sailor Antiope was actually born to a family of 2 daughters. The eldest daughter was named Lan, and the youngest daughter was named Jun. The youngest was born with the Antiopian starseed.
  • After her training, Sailor Antiope used her position as the Captain of the Guard to gain Lan access to a better social status by becoming a Bathhouse worker.
  • Lan eventually fell in love and left the Bathhouse lifestyle to settle down.
  • Sailor Antiope preferred to conquer women rather than develop meaningful relationships. Bathhouse tokens eventually became a symbol of all the women she conquered.

Everyone needs a place to call their own. Even the youma have something of the sort, a territory within the Rift which belongs to them.

Towards the ragged outskirts is a series of stalagmites and stalactites. This in itself is not unusual. However, each of the protruding land features has human skulls jammed onto them, creating a sort of border to the territory...
