The Search for the Starcats (Part 1)

Space.

It was out there. Any scientist could have told Jun this simple fact. However, the things that scientists could tell her versus what Minny had shown her were two separate things.

The girl had been skeptical at best to start. However, after exploring the strange structures upon the world of Mintaka, Jun's curiosity had been piqued.

What was the world of Antiope like?

The evening was quiet, and soon enough Jun had faded and Antiope had emerged, determined to start from step one.

She needed one of those fancy cell phones that zapped a senshi to space!

This meant she needed to find one of those elusive starcats! She might not have cared what the starcat she dealt with had to say, but the black furry critter still had been a starcat and had given her the ability to transform. Perhaps if she searched back where she had been training that evening, she'd be able to find that same starcat again!

Returning to the scene of the crime had yielded little results, or rather, no results at all. There was plenty of crisp air, fantastically frozen blades of grass, and cold concrete for miles, but as she searched through the various plantlife and trashcans, she found herself without a Starcat to call her own (or at least bother).

The next phase of the plan was to try and think like a cat.

Antiope was not a cat person. Her ideas on what cats liked were about as accurate as the olden viewpoint that the world was flat.

Very.

Very.

Wrong.

After circling the park a few more times and then going to the rooftops to continue her search, Antiope couldn't help but decide that she had apparently wasted her evening. She could have gotten through many exercises by now rather than just seek out a stupid starcat!

From the rooftop, the girl crouched down, peering over the city. This was not easy, locating a starcat. However, perhaps she could consider it some sort of training on her part. Starcat training! Catch a starcat, get a phone, go to space, see what this Antiope-world was like!

It was a simple plan on Antiope's part, but none of her plans were ever very deep in the first place. The Senshi's mind was a kiddy pool, ready for wading, but not for swimming!

"I will continue this another night..." Despite the words seeming like a sort of defeat, the Mantis Senshi's words were confident. She would continue this another night, and she would find the first piece to this outer space puzzle.

Without any hesitation, the girl leaped from building to building, swiftly making her way back to school. She would need a bit of rest if she didn't want to get scolded again for sleeping during class.

The Search for the Starcats (Part 2)

Despite how dense Jun could be, she was not absolutely stupid. She did have two very strict parents who ideally had wanted her to become a doctor. Obviously, Jun had no plans to fulfill such a dream that originated from her parents. However, it meant that Jun knew a thing or two about researching.

Her searches would not end with failure tonight, or at least that was what the Mantis Senshi had decided as she set her plan in motion for the evening. It involved lots of fish-shaped cat treats, a few cat toys, and a catnip mouse. Her plan wasn't very in-depth, but at least she had a starting point now.

Starting off from her usual training grounds, the Mantis Senshi began to scour the city, this time by foot at ground level. Cats could climb, but it would be best to find one on the ground probably.

Eventually she got to the streets and soon enough she was peering into alleys. "Are there any starcats in here?" she asked quite openly down one of the alleys, peering in and pausing to observe. Even though she saw no sign of movement, Antiope set a fish-shaped treat on the ground.

The girl shrugged as she moved onward, completely unaware of the attention she had gotten with such a simple action. Three stray cats slunk out, briefly fought over the treat, and after the winner had been declared, all three began to follow after the green suited girl.

The next alley was approximately a block away, and much like the first block, the senshi glanced into the alley, called out, left a treat, waited for a bit more, then was about to walk off when one of the lagging cats rubbed up against her bare leg.

"...oh... are you a starcat?" Leaning down, she brushed the raggedly skinny feline over the head, finding there to be no star shape upon its forehead.

"...oh..." It wasn't.

However, two more cats had joined in the leg affection, weaving between her legs. "Hey, wait!" she cried out briefly as she checked both cats and found that both also lacked the star mark. They mewed rather aggressively, as if they were trying to stake a claim.

It was when a fourth cat appeared that Antiope looked down the alley and found several other cats were already approaching.

"Seriously?! I just wanted to find a Starcat!!!" She took a couple staggering steps back, the cats easily advancing after they had noticed the loot this stranger had brought into their territory.

Antiope was not the sort to shriek. Usually.

However, there was a first for everything. As a multitude of cats began to give chase, the small Asian girl began screaming all sorts of obscenities in Chinese before eventually ditching her cat-loot and taking to the rooftops.

So much for finding a Starcat tonight.

The thought bitterly lingered in her mind as she made her retreat. Jun would have to once more reconsider her tactics in the search for a Starcat.

The Search for the Starcats (Part 3)

Jun had very little hopes for the New Year's Masquerade Ball. Her parents had forced her there and told her to be good. They told her no fights, they told her no alcohol. and to the girl that meant they told her no fun.

Even with a slight tussle on the dance floor, she would have never imagined in her wildest dreams that she'd locate something she had been seeking for a short while in a place such as the Masquerade Ball.

Starcat!

This cat was not the same one she had met when she received her henshin pen. The fur was lighter in color, the body seemed smaller and quite a bit rounder. The star upon this one's forehead was silver instead of the vibrant gold color.

This should be easy to catch the small Asian girl had thought foolishly as she attempted to creep briefly closer to the animal's direction. The chaos about her seemed to fade out pretty quickly. Galena's brief presence lost any luster it might have had. All that mattered now was this Starcat.

Without any warning, the chubby little beast bolted with a rapid jingling of the bell collar about its neck.

"WAAAAAAAIIIIIIT!!!!"

Cutting through the various people doing who the hell knew what, Jun seemed to fly out of the building. She had her blinders on and had her goal right there in front of her. This oddly swift chubby cat. Seriously?! How did an animal with that much fat on it move so fast?!

"STARCAT WAAAAIIT!!! I NEED TO TALK TO YOU!!!"

For a brief moment, a pair of green eyes seemed to glance back at this girl in the slinky Chinese dress. However, soon enough the cat's eyes were no longer visible as she turned away and continued to move forward.

Her round form darted into an alleyway, and Jun turned as sharply as her human body could handle to make the turn. However, by the time she had entered the narrow space, any signs of the Starcat had vanished.

All dressed up with nowhere to go, Jun let out a cry as she kicked over a nearby trash bin.

"I HAD IT! I NEARLY HAD IT!!!"

Her frustration echoed against the alleyway, and soon enough someone was shouting back at her about making so much noise at that time of night. It was past midnight, go bother someone else with your problems.

This was not a good start to the New Year. The little Asian girl stomped upon the trash bin she had just knocked over. There was nothing more frustrating than knowing she had what she wanted within her grasps and she had let it get away. Jun would have to fix this problem. Somehow.

How Does This THING Work?!

Starcat Ballard had been a great help! And now Antiope was in possession of that fancy phone which Minny had bragged about taking her to space. Though she was curious about the phone from the moment she got it, she had not been able to fuss about with it immediately. She had been out late, so it required rest. Then there was school that was always in the way. After her classes, her parents had actually checked her out to take her to dinner to "catch up" as they did every so often.

It had taken approximately 28 hours from the moment she had obtained the phone to actually get a chance to investigate her new toy.

Initially, she had been sitting at her desk in her dorm room when she attempted to play with the object. However, it wasn't where she had left the phone, which caused her to rather suddenly start tearing up her room.

After she had pulled all the items off the floor, opened all drawers and thrown her sheets off the bed, covering the floor in more of a mess did she finally decide to henshin up to go try and locate this Ballard Starcat again. He hadn't kept his end of the bargain, with his disappearing phone trick.

Before she could stomp off, the senshi soon enough found that she had the object in her hand.

"...wait... what?!" Though the Starcat had somewhat explained how this worked, the senshi truly was baffled due to her own inability to process the information. She spent a good 5 minutes in her dorm room, staring at the phone dubiously, as if she expected the phone to just vanish as suddenly as it had appeared in her hands.

Only once she was absolutely certain her phone would not vanish did she push the panel forward to reveal the different keys on the keypad. It wasn't a fancy phone, but Antiope was not a fancy girl. In that respect, it was totally suited for her.

However, she eventually found several buttons that looked promising. This was the sort of thing that would ensure the girl push her sleeves up just enough for her fingers to be useful for once.

She pushed the first button.

Nothing.

She pushed another button.

Nothing.

She pushed more buttons, less timing between the button pushes, and the best she was able to pull off was a random flash (of what she assumed was a camera) which got a splendid shot of her Jet Li poster on the wall. However, it didn't do much else.

The idiot in Antiope wanted to throw the phone out the window, since it seemed absolutely useless and was not wielding the results that Minny had promised. However, there was a grain of wisdom in the girl. After all that effort to get the phone, she was not going to let the phone itself be the one to defeat her.

"Minny!"

Clearly that was the answer to all of this. Holding her phone in the middle of her palm, the girl focused on losing her magic uniform. When it faded, so did the phone, which caused the poor Asian girl to double take. However, her course of action was clear.

Bother Minny the next time she saw her.
