It only made sense that after getting so close to obtaining a Starcat on New Year's that the little Mantis Senshi was out and about only a couple nights later. Perhaps if she had all her tempting bribes at that Masquerade Ball, things would have been different. Of course, there were risks with her bribes too. The girl couldn't help but shudder as she remembered the disaster with the alley cats.
"No treats until after I see they are a Starcat or not..." she reminded herself firmly aloud. Sometimes it was just easier to remember things if she heard them aloud.
Clutching her bag of treats, toys, and that catnip mouse to her chest, the girl wandered the park first, as she had every time previous. However, this time something caught her eye.
"Oh god! Is that a giant naked molerat?!"
The simple Mantis senshi was not well versed in different cat breeds.

"Well, molerats DO have a sort of classy sphynx like appeal..." Ballard was quick to reply, lifting his front paw to examine his new henna patterns, which he was rather proud of, even if they were partially covered by his latest ridiculous feline couture. (An sort of alarming shade of pink that kind of matched his skin tone.) "But they don't quote have our level of awesome, and normal sphynx cat's don't have my level of awesome. So there's a few layers of awesome between a mole and me."
He was sort of accustomed to all kinds of off beat flattery, even stuff like this, or outright jealousy because they couldn't take his awesomeness. (Patrick Stewart was clearly the 'him' of Humans.) so this was nothing new, and hey, he WAS a guardian cat and she WAS a senshi and his job WAS in part to educate her.
So he would educate her in the awesomeness that was a Sphynx cat. That was entirely fair.

Naked molerat was talking to her.
What was it with animals in this city talking to people. First it was talking cats, now talking naked molerats?!
The senshi covered her face briefly with her long sleeves, trying to figure out if there was something in the water causing these mutations.
It was amidst her wondering that a few key words hit her ears.
Sphynx.........cat....?
The pieces slowly came together, but the point was that they came together.
"...don't cats have...... hair....?"
Wait a minute...
Removing her sleeve from her line of vision, the girl finally got a better look at this gremlin-looking thing. If what it was saying was true, it was a cat. And it talked, which meant if she looked at his forehead she'd see a star.
A very bright neon green star.
With her free hand, she fiercely pointed to the talking naked-cat (though her fingers were sadly hidden behind her long floppy sleeve).
"YOU'RE A STARCAT!!!!" she announced loud enough for nearly the whole park to hear (even if it was the middle of the night).

"That's a really adorably literal term but we tend to refer to ourselves as guardians... though hey maybe StarCat would be better because we're really only guarding the stuff you need and we are kind of from... Oh never mind. Yeah StarCat. Hi. I'm Ballard, nice to meet you..." He waved his paw in a small circle, indicating that he was waiting for her to make her own introduction.
Didn't cat's have... pfft. It was really kind of cute. Ahhh to be her first introduction into such a NOBLE line of catdom. Well she'd surely be disappointed by any other because there really was only ONE him, but hey if you could make your introduction to something by introducing yourself to it's finest pinnacle, why wouldn't you?
He stretched languidly, his body language decidedly feline even if his lack of fur wasn't necessarily convincing to someone who'd missed seeing the naked, large eared cats elsewhere, yawned and added. "What can I do ya for?"

After much pointing at the hairless Starcat, the girl eventually drew her hand back and crouched down so she could be a bit more leveled with this smaller creature. He went onto explaining something about Starcats and Guardians, but a good amount of the explanation was essentially static to her ears.
The only thing she understood out of that garble was the cat's introduction.
"Ah!" She was already crouched down, so standing back up seemed silly at this point, so instead she bowed her head just slightly. "I have been told that I am Sailor Antiope... but you can just call me Anti in all honesty!"
When prompted further, the girl thrust forward her bag of bribes, holding it out towards the Starcat that was Ballard.
"I was told that you Starcats have phones you give out to Senshi! I want one please! I brought you things if you give me one!"

Unaware that his short dialogue had fallen on severely inattentive ears, Ballard pricked his own satellite dish sized ears forward in curiosity. "Ooh, is there Siracha? I'm out of Siracha..." He mused, peering curiously at the bag... then shook his head.
NO. He was a noble guardian cat with a noble calling. He didn't need bribes... even yummy... FAAAAA-BULOUS bribes of glorius burning taste bud tingli...
...yeah.
"I mean I'm fine. Cell phone, yeah I can totally do a cell phone. You didn't get one from the person who powered you up?"
He hmmed thoughtfully for a moment, not waiting for an actual answer, then made a great show of using claw to pull back his sleeve.
"Nothing up my sleeve..." He indicated, waggling his claws. "Abra... ca..."
Oh this was gonna be good. She was totally gonna love this trick.
"ABRACACHOO!" The naked cat performed a (vastly over acted) sneeze as he ejected a sturdy folding phone from sub space. Definitely not the sleek modern version some of the other cats were producing, but to be entirely honest, he didn't have the know how. Or so far the social aptitude to play on Ash to get that know how.
"One cell phone."

"Sriracha? You mean the red rooster sauce?"
The girl looked absolutely baffled as she remained in place with her offered bribe. All of the research she had done on cats, there had been no mention of the infamous red rooster sauce. One would think if cats liked the stuff, that it would be somewhere on the internet.
However, this Ballard Starcat seemed to be more than willing to give her one of those elusive phones that Mintaka had mentioned. She focused all her attention on the skin-and-bones feline as he went through some motions. Perhaps it was some sort of ritual...
...and then he sneezed.
Something solid landed upon the ground with a muffled clatter and at first Antiope was a bit wary.
"...um... hopefully it is not covered in snot... right? Wait... how long did you have it up your nose?"

Ballard, in so much as a cat could, giggled hysterically, his eyes squinching up with amusement as he put a paw to his face and just... giggled and chortled for a short interval, occasionally muttering "Boogers... pffffffft"
"Ahhahaha... Boogers..." He finally sighed... paused to wave his paw. "Ahhaha... No um. Ehheheheheee. No boogers. It wasn't up my nose it was in a..."
Wait, maybe if Guardian Cats was a wierd concept he should stick with something simpler. "Kind of a magic pocket. Oh kid you're a hoot."
He licked his chops as he thought for a second and added. "Yeah the one with the rooster on the bottle. Fantastic on hot dogs. Fantastic on everything. Or Dave's Insanity Sauce. Mmm. Best Nachos. Still got some of that though." He reached out and pulled the bottle from sub space, juggling it carefully between his paws to put it on the bench. "Oh spicy spicy magic sauce enliven my food stuffs forever." He crooned to it, either unaware or unconcerned that he was being quite confusing.

At no point had she mentioned boogers, so the way the Starcat Ballard was carrying on was a bit bizarre. However, there was no nose-matter upon the device, so with her sleeves she picked up the green colored cell phone.
It looked a bit different from the phone that Mintaka had, but that didn't make it any less of a cell phone.
"I believe this is for you then, Ballard!" With that she set down the bag of cat treats, cat toys, and the catnip mouse.
"It is not the Rooster sauce... didn't realize cats could eat that stuff, I have some at my dorm... but I hope you can enjoy what I brought in exchange for the phone!" She finally tilted the bag over and dumped out the contents for the Starcat to inspect.

Ballard giggled, quite taken with his own joke still. "Ooh...." Ok so it wasn't delicious hot sauce but ooh. Oh Catnip. Ohboyohboyohboy.
"Gifts are not required but hey I'm not gonna object either. Not all cats like the spicy. Ash hates it." He peered into the bag with wide eyes, pawing at the toys and catnip mouse with interest.
Ohboyohboyohboy. Cat treats? Eh, take em or leave em, but they'd be good to dip in some epic salsa. But ooh he was gonna put on a movie and chew on that mouse.

"Ash? Is that another Starcat?" With a floppy sleeve, the girl pointed to her forehead, as if she also had a star there like these strange felines.
Not giving it too much thought, she eventually shrugged and slid her new shiny phone into her sleeves, as if the sleeve's opening was the mouth of some hungry beast.
"Well... I do believe if someone does you a favor, you do them a favor... balance, that sort of thing."

"Yeah she's a fussy little thing, gray fur, calls herself Silver Lady, wears these purple glasses thing." He waved his paw at his face. "But with like a little bluetooth mike or something. I helped her with a youma once, but then she was all "OOH my FUR IS SOILED. CLEAN IT FOR ME." And I was all "No way!" I mean dude we just met, mutual grooming is kinda rushing things don't ya think? I mean I know I'm SMOKIN' But she must be JOKIN'." He spread his arms to let Antiope have a better look at him.
"And hey, definitely no problem getting goodies but it's kinda my job. Enjoy the phone!"

Antiope had seen a gray furred Starcat before. However, as the furless rat-thing of a Starcat continued to explain, the girl was certain that the Starcat she had encountered was not this alleged Ash. " She sounds like someone straight out of High School..." It reminded her of some of the prissier girls at St. Mags. who needed their fancy nails. Now that the fair exchange had been made, the senshi offered a faint bow. " I will!" Now, a smarter girl would have asked follow up questions about how the phone worked. Antiope was not that girl. Eventually she would figure out she probably should have asked those important questions. For now, with a turn on the ball of her foot, she began to walk away.
