Interlude - A Writer and His Muse (Solo)

Illyria's gaze was glued to the television in Orah's apartment. The young Mauvian had wandered in sometime after the sun had set and after determining that no one else was home had paced the length of the living room sofa a few times before flopping down on the pillow that was set out for her personal use. She knew that people would be showing up sooner rather than later but for now it seemed as if she had the place to herself. Spying the remote that had been placed onto the nearby coffee table Illyria contemplated the device before switching on her glamour in order to hit the button that would power the television on. Moments later Illyria was lowering the volume before spying the smaller, secondary remote that allowed access the DVD player that was sitting nearby. Illyria fished out an item from her subspace pocket before opening the DVD package and inserting the first disc into the waiting tray on the DVD player.

The Mauvian had come from one of the city's libraries with her DVD item on loan from the system. How else was she going to be able to watch the first season of this show if she didn't have access to a television that was also hooked up to a DVD player. Luckily she knew that Orah had both items and wouldn't have minded if she made herself at home in order to at least sample this show that had seemed promising when she had checked it out.

As everything booted up Illyria glanced towards the empty hallway before going back to her feline form. It'd be easier to explain things to anyone who came through the door on what she was doing if she were in cat form rather than her 'glamoured' form. Soon the credits to the main screen of the show where appearing on the screen and Illyria sighed before her paw tapped the "ENTER" button to play all the episodes that were on that particular disc. Moments later the first episode began to play and Illyria allowed herself to get lost in the oft amusing world of one Richard Castle. Her eyes drank in the minutiae that bespoke of the creative minds behind the show's premise: a writer that, after killing off his current character, needed the inspiration garnered from briefly working with the NYPD, sought to use a female detective to base his next character off of. The premise was intriguing to say the least and Illyria found herself enjoying the banter between all the characters that were on screen. From Rick's relationship with his mother and daughter, to the instant chemistry that seemed to sizzle when Castle was around the character of Detective Beckett, there was a lot of intrigue going on.

When the first episode was near its conclusion Illyria sat upright as the action unfolded before her very eyes. Her breath hitched for a moment at the palpable attraction between Beckett & Castle and even as the detective sauntered off into the evening light did Illyria feel as if she were watching right there, beside Castle. As the episode came to its conclusion did the Mauvian sigh before pressing play to cue up the next episode. It seemed as if she'd made a good decision in renting this item from the library. Something whispered in her mind that she was going to have to watch the entire season, and who knew, maybe the entire series.

An Unusual Find

There would have been a time, before the epiphany struck her that she was not just a normal cat of Earth, that Illyria would have never dreamed of leaving the confines of the city for any reason. Although dangerous in their own rights, cities generally meant people. People meant animal lovers. Animal lovers meant cat lovers ... and cat lovers often resulted in safe places to stay. Those that loved animals also tended to keep an eye out for the dangers that could befall any sort of animal. Maybe that's why she loved the city so much. Even now, as she gazed down over an amazing view of Destiny City did Illyria feel just the slightest sense of unease as she slowly turned her back on the view in order to peer into the darkened eaves of the forest. Somewhere in there was a newly hidden geocache that she was eager to find. The appearance of a geocache that was not in the city proper did have Illyria worried about how long it might take to find but she wouldn't be who she was if she didn't at least try to find it.

At least she wouldn't have to go too far into the forest to locate the general area that the cache was purportedly hidden in. Although technically outside of the city whomever had placed the newly formed cache had only walked about ten minutes into the forest before finding a spot for the cache to rest. Armed with the coordinates did Illyria figure that the best idea she could do was travel to the forest while in her feline form before activating the glamour that would allow her to mimic your average human being. In that form she'd spend the time searching the forest properly with the hope of locating the geocache.

It was a good plan. Being human would also keep her relatively safe from whatever predators would be skulking about in the shadows. Also with her glamour she'd be safe from any interference of the powered persuasion. As of late Illyria had not had the most stellar track record when it came to the forces of chaos. Sure she'd been able to assist at times in fights but lately had been taking more punishment as a result of sticking her nose into situations where she may not have belonged. Though technically it could have been said that she belonged in every fight against chaos because it was her duty to look after those senshi that were of the order persuasion. Sniffing slightly in a remembrance of how devastating a recent battle was did the Mauvian sigh and reflexively check her body over, looking for any reminder of the caustic flame that she'd endured at the behest of a rather large canine. Oh, she'd paid the creature back shortly thereafter but it still bothered her.

She was sometimes too eager to rush into the defense of order-aligned individuals but she couldn't help it. She needed to protect everyone.

Shaking her head, Illyria glanced down at her current coordinates before making the deliberation that she was close enough to the cache's location that she could start searching as a human. Bringing out the small trinket that allowed her to disguise herself did Illyria press down on the button that saw her glamour activate. Reaching down with a now human hand did the Mauvian pick up her GPS unit before studying the screen. There was a sudden sound of confusion made as the unit turned itself off but Illyria didn't fret. She was in the right location and while it would have been easier with a working unit she felt comfortable enough to just wander around for a bit. There was a fresh battery in her subspace pocket that she had brought along for this express purpose but if she didn't need to use it yet then it could stay tucked away. Her gaze alighted on the scenery around her before Illyria brought out a printed piece of paper that had listed clues in which she could use once the starting location was arrived at. Reading through the clues once more Illyria sighed before glancing at the foliage that surrounded her. Given the dimensions the cache would not be up in a tree so it meant a ground search. It also didn't require a person to dig, so it would mean that somewhere, in all this general foliage, a cache would be hidden.

"Okay, ground search. A grid pattern would be helpful but I don't want to be out here for too long. Also seems as if it's relatively close to the starting point but hidden extremely well."

With that knowledge Illyria went to task of finding a rather large stick that she would be able to use to push thick foliage out of the way in order to peer deeper into the recesses of large bushes. Once a suitable stick was found did the Mauvian begin her extensive searching. Her sheet with clues often came back out so that she could look them over again and again as she searched trying desperately to narrow down a particular stretch of forest that seemed more promising than another ... until finally she believed that she found what it was that she was looking for.

A snarled mess of branches had almost hidden a heavily used game trail from her sight and Illyria made a brief discovery of a discarded piece of litter before she pushed through the obstacle she faced. Pushing a little deeper into the forest did she stop to scan the ground before a small amount of ground disturbance caught her eyes. Something had seemingly been pushed or dragged a little bit which had her breath quicken with excitement. Was she finally on the correct path after all.

Peering into the depths of a rather large evergreen tree did Illyria finally spot what it was she'd been searching for. Nestled right against the trunk, in a hollow that looked to have been artificially expanded and completely hidden from sight of creatures that would have been curious, did Illyria spot the camouflaged tote bin that spoke of the cache she had been trying to find. Turning off her glamour did she squeeze herself into the hollow before circling around the cache. Her feline eyes took in the space and size of the container before realizing that cat strength was not going to cut it in pushing it out into the open, and yet her human form would have no space in which to move about freely. Was there an ideal answer here or would she have to get creative? Figuring at least that perhaps she could further enlarge the hollow did Illyria lie flat along the ground before activating her glamour once more. Now lying flat on the ground did her human hands begin snapping off the lower lying branches that impeded her range of motion. Sitting up after taking out a few number of the lower branches did Illyria finally drag the container over to her before prying off the lid. "I love having thumbs," she commented to herself even as she pulled out the paper that she would sign indicating a successful find. The paper, unsurprisingly, was blank and using her moniker of Ria did Illyria sign the date in which she'd found the cache. Peering at the tote's contents Illyria sighed wearily. Most of the objects were the usual standard items one could find in a geocache and that in itself was getting a little tedious. However even as she reached into the tote did a sudden spark of something flare underneath her questing fingers. What had that been?

Slowing her motion down did Illyria once more pass over the section of the interior of the tote before her fingers once more felt an intriguing sensation. Something inside almost seemed to be calling out for her to take it: like it belonged to her. Her fingers brushed against what could only be a rock of some sort before she quickly pulled it out of the cache and into the limited amount of light that filtered into this hiding place. It was most definitely a rock of some sort or the other but it had interesting flecks of what appeared to be crystalline structures as well and Illyria was captivated by the sight of it. Whatever it was, she was definitely taking it back home with her. There was a sense of it needing to be brought away from this place that had Illyria tucking it away into her subspace pocket before indicating what she'd removed from the tote. Bringing out a lovely designed notebook and pen combination from the same pocket of space did she place the items into the bin as a replacement before leaving the tote where it was. It was in a perfect hiding space as it was and she pushed it back against the trunk of the tree before shifting back into her feline form.

All in all, the trip out here had been worth it. What lingered in the back of her mind though was the question of what had she found in the cache? Obviously it was something that a regular human could not feel the power locked inside, but she wondered if other powered individuals could. Was it something she could test out with Ida or one of her other powered friends or was it something she should best keep secret for now? Only time would tell.

There was an eagerness in her paw steps to get back to Orah's place to study her find more closely, and in safer quarters so until she got back into the city Illyria would have to let the unanswered questions remain unanswered.
