It was times like this that Meissa hated being on patrol. The basic senshi of bobcats didn't know if it was her sphere's influence but she hated getting wet while she was powered up. A sneeze echoed through the empty rooftop as she huddled underneath the scant shelter that she had managed to find. For now it looked like, unless she wanted to get drenched, that continuing on with her patrol would be useless. Swiping away the soaked strands of hair that threatened to cling to her face required a level of caring that Meissa wasn't sure she could muster at the moment. Being cold, wet, alone ... on such a dreary evening was just fuelling the desire to cut this patrol short and fall into a nice warm bed, under a quilted comforter and then sleep the night, and this storm, away.

The brilliant flash of lightning that arced across the sky caused the teen to merely hunker down even further. The accompanying roll of thunder had Meissa winching her body more under the protection that she had found. There would be nothing fun about getting electrocuted by a stray bolt of lightning. Even if April and May showers brought flowers and all that jazz, a thunderstorm was not of the same calibre of a gentle rain shower. This was raw, untamed, power that literally menaced everything and everyone that was caught outside without protection.

"Should have at least looked at the weather forecast for tonight, maybe I wouldn't have been caught off guard."

Meissa wasn't sure when it had begun but there had been a feeling of restlessness deep inside that was making it harder and harder to concentrate on even the simplest tasks, whether it was as her civilian self or her powered alter ego. It was beyond frustrating to have no idea why she was feeling like all she wanted to do was crawl out of her skin. Sniffing silently the girl continued to huddle under the low overhang. Once the rain ended, maybe she'd just give up and give in to the need for more sleep. But first the storm needed to let up and it didn't look like it was ready to do so at all.

There was nothing worse than experiencing a wet fur day. Illyria shook out her damp paws. This weather was not optimal at all for what she was trying to accomplish. Somewhere out in this mess was a person with the same sensation that she had once felt with Takamizawa: that of having too much energy for a too small container. There was a senshi that needed her attention to unlock the next level of power. It was just trying to locate the senshi in question was what was throwing the small Mauvian off. The constant flashes of lightning and rolls of thunder weren't improving the situation at all either. How did one concentrate on following their instincts when every flash of lightning had the little cat spinning around to determine just how close it was to her current position. She could not perform her duties to the senshi in need, or to Ida if she got zapped by the ultimate power from above.

Taking the most daring of chances Illyria shifted her position to stand with her front paws hanging onto the edge of a rooftop ledge as she tried to pinpoint where exactly this feeling of pent-up energy was coming from. Her positioning gave the appearance that she was eagerly awaiting a visit from her favorite person in the entire world as she felt her ears twitch at the newest roll of thunder. It'd come not so very long after the flash of lightning which meant the storm was getting closer and she could very well be running out of time.

A faint growl of frustration sounded from her throat before she once more shook the dampness from her paws. "This is ridiculous. Why is a thunderstorm, of all things, making it so much harder for me to find this senshi?"

Whiskers twitching Illyria pulled herself completely onto the ledge and then leapt across to the rooftop adjacent. The jump itself was clean, the landing not so much as she splashed down into another puddle. Even as she gave the dirtiest of looks to the accumulation of water did she stand silent for a moment. The feeling was stronger. Did that mean that she would do best to continue jumping rooftops in the same direction? It would be worth a shot.

The storm just wasn't letting up. Meissa was now thoroughly drenched as the overhang that she had been sheltering under had been a good choice as long as the rain was coming straight down, but adding wind to the mix had the rain coming into her little enclave at a slant and now she was just plain miserable. Curling up into the tightest of balls didn't seem to abate just how much she was getting soaked and she sneezed loudly before rubbing at her nose. Thunder pealed loudly above and even that wasn't enough to get the girl to move from the curled up position that she had acquired.

"Rain rain, go away. Please come back another day ... you know when I don't have to do the patrol thing."

Even as the words escaped her did the senshi put every ounce of longing into the fervent desire. But if any of those 'so-called' weather gods were listening, they chose to do nothing.

"Great time to go patrolling I said, wouldn't be out for that long I said," she shot a glare towards the sheet of metal that was keeping most of the wet off her before sighing, "why do I do this anymore?"

The next moment the sounds of something landing with a splash brought Meissa to full alertness. Her body protested the movement but she uncurled enough to turn around and peer out into the curtain of rain that still showed no signs of letting up. There was a sense of a power signature that had Meissa's heart racing before she cast her gaze about warily. The aura ... felt similar to something that she knew from before but was she just imagining things? Her voice was pitched as she called out, "Is anyone there?"

The sense of a basic senshi was growing on Illyria's radar the more that the cat cleared each rooftop in the direction that she had decided to travel in. It coincided with the feeling that she had picked up on and the best news of the night was that the aura signature was static. Then again anyone who was caught out in this weather would have been wise to seek shelter and it seemed as if her target was doing just that. Illyria's paws carried her slight frame across the current roof that she was crossing before she stopped at the ledge to glance at the distance that she would need to clear in order to land safely on the next building's roof. There was a sense of closeness that Illyria found reassuring now and even as she gathered her muscles in preparation to make the leap across the open space did another strike of lightning illuminate the sky followed immediately by the percussive thunder that sent reverberation through her body and Illyria flinched in mid-jump.

The result was just one more time that she found herself not landing completely on four feet. Her front paws slid from under her and she found herself falling face-first into a rather impressive puddle. Almost gingerly did she pick herself up from that ungraceful manoeuvre to hear a voice asking if anyone was there. With as much dignity as she could muster Illyria followed the sound of the words to approach a low overhang that seemed to be someone's hidey-hole from the storm. Illyria's expression was of instant concern before she realized what was going on. A soft rumble of a purr began as she moved closer to the senshi before she rubbed her head against the teen's outstretched hand, "to answer your question: yes, someone is here... someone that can probably help you more than you know."

"Oh!"

That simple exclamation carried so many different things that Meissa wanted to get out. From: "you're one of those cats" to "ooh, you're so cute" and even "what do you mean by that?" ... but mainly for one second Meissa could just enjoy the feeling of fur underneath her fingers again. Even if the fur was soaked which she didn't mind, it brought back flashes of what she had experienced up on Alastor and she fought back tears before scooping up this unknown Mauvian and holding her tightly against her chest. The logical assumption was that this cat had been caught out in the same storm that she was and had tried to find the safest place to shelter. "It's okay, you're safe now," was what Meissa crooned to the waterlogged feline before she felt her brain short-circuit.

What else had this strange cat said? Meissa paused to go over the words again before she peered suspiciously at this new guest to share her small shelter, "What do you mean? How can you help me?"

This was getting just a little bit strange and although she couldn't see the star that marked this cat as a Mauvian there was no sense of chaos emanating from her, and it was a she, that would be cause for concern. So what was it that she meant. Reaching to gently trace her finger along the ribbon that was around the cat's neck did Meissa sigh before waiting for an explanation before she absently rubbed at her bare arms, as if trying to ward off a sudden chill.

The sensation of having fingers stroke through her wet fur wasn't wholly unpleasant but it did seem to help get unstuck some of the strands of fur that wanted to clump together and Illyria sighed before feeling her slight body being scooped up and cradled in a pair of inviting arms. This close to the senshi in question Illyria finally confirmed that this girl was who was giving of the familiar feeling of needing an unlocking of a new power level. Even as she was released to merely be situated in the lap of her new friend did Illyria note the girl's brisk rubbing of her arms. Was she just cold? Or was it something else?

At the questions that were flung back to her did Illyria simply do her best to curl up into a smaller ball before she stared up into the senshi's eyes, "what I mean is that I believe you are ready to unlock a new level of power. You're absolutely humming and it's that hum that drew me in to find you. Even this weather couldn't keep me away and so, if you are ready for it ... which I know you are, I'll need to see your transformation pen so I can briefly tinker with it."

A gentle rumbling sound was given off as Illyria began a small purr as she felt the unknown senshi's fingers trace the ribbon of her collar before she added quietly, "I haven't even introduced myself. The name is Illyria."

The bobcat senshi's mouth opened and closed a few times before she snapped it shut. Nuh-uh. Illyria did not just say what she thought she had said, had she? Meissa almost flinched at the sudden crack of thunder that rolled through the skies above them before shaking her head slowly in a back and forth motion. There was absolutely no way that she was ever going to be ready for more power. Even Itsuki had said so back on Alastor. Although, and here Meissa had had her doubts, it hadn't been the real Itsuki ... she had felt the words that he spit at her sink claws into her heart.

The doubt was real. The chaos that had been defeated up there knew exactly how to try and manipulate her thoughts into first thinking that she was saving her small Mauvian friend and then when she started to piece things together and had begun to see through the illusion, the shade of Itsuki had drove figurative daggers of doubt deep into her heart and they still lived on, deep where she couldn't seem to shake them loose.

"But I can't be ready for more power, I don't even know what to do now with what power I do have."

Meissa spoke this admittance to Illyria before she gingerly brought out her henshin pen as had been requested. "The one that awoke me vanished a long time ago but I saw him on that senshi's homeworld that was being overrun by chaos ... he told me then that I'd never be more than a basic senshi. That I should stop trying."

Placing the pen down at Illyria's front paws Meissa glanced towards the sheet of metal before looking down. "I don't know if it'll do any good, but here is my pen, Illyria."

Knowing the Mauvian's name that was sitting in her lap and staring up at her had the teal-haired senshi gently chucking the kitten gently under her chin before she sighed, "I'm known as Meissa, senshi of Bobcats."

Chaos, homeworld?

Illyria's attention had been on the transformation pen that had been presented to her but at those two words her ears flicked back and forth before she gave the most thoughtful of noises before pausing with her work. Gazing up at Meissa the small feline ran those two words around and around in her mind before deducing what it was that Meissa had encountered and where. Illyria's own thoughts went back that disastrous adventure before she gently tried to coax Meissa's attention away from the negativity that she had associated with that encounter by patting the senshi's chest delicately with her paw.

"Now, if I'm understanding correctly, you also were called to Alastor's homeworld and were assigned a location to investigate, correct," Illyria paused before she glanced down at the henshin pen before closing her eyes and putting all her attention on the energy she felt from Meissa's starseed silently pleading to be unlocked. For all the technological aspects of what she did, most of the process was still shrouded in mystery. One moment the transformation pen was in one form, the next moment ... it had assumed an interesting little makeover. Illyria smiled softly to herself before she felt fingers gently resume running over her lithe body.

"Okay, so let me tell you what I experienced there as I too was pulled in to help. The chaos that was trying to engulf Alastor separated the group I was with quite effectively and while separated from the others I experienced a moment where the friend I'd found up there had been turned by chaos. I knew this and she had made a compelling argument to why we needed to leave. I so desperately wanted to go with her. I knew it wasn't her but yet when she seemed to be attacked by an underwater creature I still wanted to save her. Chaos probably would have defeated our group had it not been for several factors that occurred all at once."

Illyria sighed. "Long story short, I believe that what you encountered was a shade of the chaos that was trying to defeat everyone that was up there. It wasn't the cat that awoke you. But try to erase what was said from your mind ... and your heart if possible. You are ready for more power Sailor Meissa and if you repeat the phrase, "Meissa Star Power" you will see that I tell the truth."

With the new phrase Illyria had told Meissa to use the small cat had plucked the changed pen from Meissa's lap and gently held it up so the teen could see the transformed design before she waited with bated breath.

Meissa's fingers stilled the rhythmic motions of stroking down Illyria's back before she digested what the cat had said to her. She'd been on Alastor as well? And been confronted with visitation? Meissa glanced down at her lap with thoughts running through her mind and questions wanting to spill from her lips but at Illyria's insistence that what she had experienced wasn't really Itsuki the turmoil inside of her stilled for a moment or two giving the teen the needed time to really think about what she had encountered on Alastor's home world. For all intents and purposes, she had believed that she had finally found the one that had awoken her as a senshi. He saved her, and she him. But when it was when they started actually conversing that something had felt off. Itsuki would have never gone off at her like he had.

The Itsuki she knew had been kind and patient ... the best of teachers when she was just starting out as a senshi. The vision on Alastor had been cruel and mocking.

An 'aha' moment dawned on the bobcat senshi as she glanced down to the feline in her lap with dawning clarity and maybe just a little bit of sheepishness. The pen that was offered back to her contained the most minute of changed details but Meissa picked up on each one of them before she held her newly changed device close to her heart. Bending her head over the pen, and having it clasped tightly in both hands, the senshi of bobcats looked as if she was locked in a posture of serious prayer before she spoke the phrase that Illyria had given her. The words were soft, barely audible, but spoken with true belief behind them.

What she was expecting to happen was remaining as she was. Even being told by Illyria that she was ready to wield more power could not completely cancel out the doubt she had held. But even as she felt the familiar sensation of a transformation overtake her did the teen realize that something more was happening. When everything was said and done ... a newly upgraded senshi of bobcats sat where once a basic senshi had sat moments earlier. At first Meissa was silent, caught up in the miracle that had just occurred before she felt buoyed up by an unexpected lightness deep inside.

Scrambling out from under the cover that had afforded her protection from the rain Meissa stood proudly with her gaze checking out every new aspect to her upgraded uniform before spotting Illyria sitting primly at the shelter's edge ... staring reproachfully at the sky but also beaming with pride at her. Meissa felt laughter bubble up in her chest and let it out before trying to cajole Illyria out to join her. "Rain seems to be letting up, c'mon, let's celebrate."

Even as she spoke these words the sky flashed with another strike of lightning and thunder rumbled overhead before the rain pelted down with the same intensity as before. Meissa caught sight of Illyria backing up to put more protection over her head. With a concerned look Meissa crouched down to peer in at the young cat before she reached forward with an outstretched hand. Not only that but Meissa found herself whispering the opening words of a song that hadn't been on her mind in ages, but it seemed to fit the moment.

"Your hearts beating around the clock
time ticking away it doesn't stop
evolution is taking place
the world is spinning and changing everyday"

Gently she coaxed Illyria closer and as the feline moved into reach Meissa picked the Mauvian up and cradled her as close to her chest as she had recently cradled her changed henshin pen. The next lines of the song were crooned softly to Illyria as she backed out from under the shelter they'd shared before spinning around.

"Anything you think of with a name
there isn't anything in life that ever stays the same
And everything changes (changes)
things are changing constantly
Everything changes (changes)
it's evolutionary
And everything changes (changes)
Changing all the time
Playing with your mind
Modified or rearranged
everything has got to change."

Even as she sang these lines did another flash of lightning illuminate the sky but the thunder seemed less intense, Meissa stared at the world around as the song lyrics hit home for herself as well and she couldn't help but gently turn in a circle as to prove a point, more to herself than anything ... that everything did have to change. Meeting Illyria this night brought about a change that she had long been dreading, but now, even as the rain soaked her through did she have the courage to laugh and dance in the deluge, the fear that had been left inside, being washed away by an early spring thunderstorm.

Bending over the now drenched feline in her arms, Meissa kissed Illyria's head before murmuring what seemed to be an apropos response to the service that the Mauvian had provided her this night, "thank you Illyria. From the bottom of my heart: thank you. For the first time in a long while I feel as if I'm ready to continue pushing forward in what it means to be a senshi. I'll never forget this meeting."

Her feet spun once more in a small circle before she stopped to bend over to put Illyria down on the ground before continuing to spin in circles as the rest of the song played through her mind. Ecstatic over the power she felt rushing through her limbs ... the super senshi of bobcats continued to twirl and dance around like a fool ... but now a pleasantly happy one.

PostPosted: Thu Jun 01, 2023 2:59 pm

Illyria's gaze widened at Meissa's transformation into a super senshi and she beamed at the sight. She knew she had been correct and this was merely the proof in the pudding. Even as the newly made super senshi scrambled out from under the shelter that had been protecting them from the rain did Illyria move to observe the teenager before frowning at the sky. It seemed that Mother Nature was not content to simply let this upgrade happen without a small risk of danger to herself and the newly upgraded Meissa.

At the next crack of thunder Illyria found herself scrambling to put more protection over her head before she sensed that Meissa had returned to peer in at her. At the sound of a song being sung and the gentle hand that was trying to coax her forward Illyria sighed before realizing that Meissa wouldn't allow harm to come for her and she moved forward enough to listen more to what Meissa was singing to her before her ears twitched to catch the words. How apt that the song was about changing.

Illyria soon found herself cradled in Meissa's arms as the super senshi spun in a few circles in the downpour and as much as she hated getting wet, heck all cats were like that, this was a celebration that needed to be rejoiced. Even as the spinning motion stopped and Meissa thanked her for what she had done did Illyria feel herself being placed back on the ground. What she should have done at that point was slink off but Illyria instead had heard of the song that Meissa had started to sing and without much preamble, as Meissa darted away to continue her dancing in the deluge did Illyria take up the next verse.

"You take a chance you throw the dice
you risk it all it's just a part of life
you hold on tight to what you know
you can't hold back you got to let it go
every little step that you embrace
one road ends another begins
and takes you to a better place."

Even as she hopped onto the ledge to slink back to where she belonged did Illyria stop once more to observe the dancing senshi. Her words, a blessing, were honest and true: "You are most welcome Meissa, Super Senshi of Bobcats. Embrace this change to the fullest. You have earned it."
