▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Looking Forward
Solo - Blade - WC 546

(( Akeldama is coming to realize that the hate she was raised on isn't the only way to live. She met a child earthling that made her want her own children and that started to change her way of thinking, she recently went into an earthling settlement and met an earthling that was friendly with her despite what she was. This is making her lean toward creating other friendships with earthlings which is a huge change for her since she was raised to hate all earthlings. ))

After her trip into the port city to see how well travel would go for her and her family she come to a conclusion. A very personal conclusion. The earthlings may not be as vile as she had been taught. It was a conclusion long in the making. She’d run into a certain small earthling long before then. It had been years since she’d seen the yaeli child, Caolan, but it was he who started to change her way of thinking when it came to the earthlings. Children were innocent, no matter what species they were. Akeldama had always thought that. It was also possible that they could grow up to be friendly to her people. The bright one she’d run into in the city had been friendly enough.

Akel took it into serious thought as she made her way back home. A bit of color out of the corner of her eye made her look up at her spear head and she saw the cloth that Maritza had given her to cover the weapon. It had been done to make the earthlings feel a bit less threatened but it was a nice gesture from the bright one. She’d offered a way for her to appeal more friendly to the locals.

She realized of course that open relations would take more time, as not all of her sisters would willingly trust the jumpy earthlings, but Akeldama could see it happening. Was that why Pyrrha had seen long before? Was that why Pyrrha had gone out into the world without fear? She looked up at the branches above her as she walked and smiled to herself. “Elzira, is this what you were trying to tell us when you bloomed a hybrid?” She asked softly.

Her alkidike mother would disagree of course. So would most of her Elarian sisters. But Akel was starting to wonder if they couldn’t have friendly relations with the earthlings. Learn about them and teach them about Elzira. She saw the friendship starting with her own daughter as well so she knew it was possible. What would Pruu think about this though? How would she take learning that Akeldama was softening toward those that had crystals instead of markings?

“It will need to be something I talk to Pruu about after our trip.” Maybe her partner would see what she was starting to see while they were away from home. Being out among the others may open Pruu’s eyes to what could be. She had high hopes.

“I will have to ask Pyrrha what her thoughts on it are.” Again she spoke to herself as she walked. Akeldama glanced once more at the cloth covering her spear. Rather than take it off she left it there. She thought that from now on, rather than keep it out in the open and a threat to everyone she would leave it covered. It would help to put people at some ease when she was around and in truth if push came to shove the cloth would not do much to hinder the blade if she needed to use it in an emergency. “The bright one gave me a gift she isn’t even aware of.” A smirk was given and she looked forward, both figuratively and literally.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A Bit of Help
Solo - Warrior/Stage 3 - WC 1565 (5pts)

A steady crunch could be heard as Akeldama worked the dried roots into a powder. They were easier to use in that form and much easier to measure out so she took the time to let them dry and then grind them down. It was a thoughtless act so she was free to let her mind wander as she did the repetitive motion on autopilot. At the moment she was thinking about her family. It was a nice unit. The four of them. Her wife and two daughters. Both daughters were growing up so fast and she couldn’t help but feel pride in them. Not to mention that she and Pruu had done everything different from what their own mother’s had done.

She was in the middle of thinking about perhaps asking her wife if she wanted to add to the family unit when she heard the approaching footsteps. Akel paused in her grinding and let one hand reach down for her spear. Her fingers just wrapping around the shaft when she noticed another Elarian walking toward her with a flush to their cheeks, like they had just finished running.

“Akeldama!” The sister called out to her as she lifted her hand in a greeting, no weapon out.

Her green eyes scanned the woman for a second before she nodded her head in greeting.

“Akeldama, you’re needed. One of the sisters was bitten. The healers are out and too far away.” The sister spoke quickly and breathless.

If they had come to get her then it meant that the sister in question had been bitten on a hunt and it took all their efforts to get her closer to the village. Akel frowned a bit.

“Keldari venom?” She asked.

When the woman nodded she let out a sigh and shifted so that she could get up from her position. Her eyes lingered on the roots she had been working with before simply draping a cloth over her work. She couldn’t afford to let the wind blow it away or if it rained she didn’t want it to turn to a paste. She needed the powder. With that done she moved to collect her bag. Ever since her own daughter had been the victim of the snake-like creature she’d began carrying the antivenom with her.

The bag was slung over her shoulder just as she bent to collect her spear. The blade still had the cloth wrapped around it to show she was non-aggressive. With those things gathered she looked at the other Elaria.

“Lead the way and quickly.” Akeldama didn’t know how much time had passed since the bite but she wanted to get there long before the venom spread too far.

It was her guess that it likely made it into the blood already.

The sister turned and started to jog, looking over her shoulder to make sure that Akeldama was following and able to keep up, when she was confident she wouldn't lose Akel she sped up into a full on run.

—-----

When they arrived, both trying to catch their breath from the run they’d just done, it was to an interesting sight. Akeldama saw two other sisters with their arms around a third to keep her upright. Akel quickly lifted her lip in a snarl as she noted the wound was below the heart. Didn’t they learn anything from basic first aid?

“Put her down! Get that leg up. You idiots.” Akel snapped at them as she got closer.

They startled upon hearing her voice but didn’t waste time in arguing, thankfully. They stopped where they were and lowered their baggage to the ground before moving to elevate the injured leg. Akeldama knelt in front of the injured sister, taking note that she was maybe only five years older than her own daughters.

“Tch. You young ones and thinking you’re invincible. Always pay attention to your surroundings. Just because its on the ground and small doesn’t mean it’s harmless.” She scolded as she took her bag off her shoulder and started to dig around for a few things.

The sisters in front of her seemed to know when to remain quiet and take the scoldings given to them, two even bowed their heads. Akel managed to pull out a few things - the antivenom in a jar, a bandage wrap that she would need for after, and a small knife. When those were out and placed on the bag to keep off the ground she reached to the small flask on her belt and took it from its place.

“You two hold her. You..” she motioned to the one that brought her to them, “Get her something to bite down on.”

With the time unknown and they likely wouldn’t be able to give an accurate estimate anyways, she needed to open up the punctures and let them drain some. It wasn’t going to be fun or feel nice.

The sister behind her quickly looked around before she picked up a stick that was cleaned off and shoved at the other girl’s mouth. The other two took firm grips on the injured one’s arms and shoulders to keep her still. Akeldama opened her flask and poured some of the contents, which from the smell was a liquor of some kind, over the blade. It would have been better if she’d had fire but she worked with what she had.

Without wasting another second she glanced up to make sure the girl was properly restrained then gave her attention back to the bite. In the next moment she had the soaked knife pressed to the skin wans was cutting a straight line from one fang hole to the next, opening up the skin and allowing the blood and venom to drip out unstopped. The girl screamed, of course, but Akeldama paid her no mind. She had to do what she had to do.

“Shut up, you’ll alert any predator of where we are and all of us are vulnerable right now.” She growled at the young Elaria.

The blade was put down and traded out for the flask. She poured a bit of that liquor onto the wound and the girl howled out again, this time from the sting of alcohol on raw flesh. Akeldama gave her a warning glare but went back to work. She grabbed the antivenom and measured out just enough from the jar to shove into the wound. It would neutralize any still present and prevent it from causing more damage but it wouldn’t stop any that was still in the girl’s blood.

So she took out a pinch of it and snatched the stick from the girl’s mouth roughly. “Open up.” With her free hand she grabbed the girl’s jaw and tilted her head back before sprinkling what she had in her other hand into the girl’s mouth.

Now Akledama knew that it tasted horrible but she couldn’t risk the girl spitting it out so she grabbed her flask directly after and poured some into the mouth that was still open with a tongue that was writhing around trying to get the taste out. In went the liquor without warning and the girl had no choice but to swallow. Of course she coughed and sputtered aftward but the antivenom was in her.

“It won’t kick in for at least thirty minutes. I suggest you girls get her up and carry her back to the village. You..” She once again addressed the girl that had come to fetch her, “Go get a healer to meet them. I’ve done what I can but I’m a poison specialist not a miracle worker.”

She sent the one girl off and went to work wrapping the bandage around the wound she’d made larger. It wasn’t meant to be a cure but it would do as a temporary bandage until a healer could get her hands on the girl and fix things. Once that was done her supplies were shoved back into her bag.

“I suggest you work on your situational awareness before going back out.” She glared at the girl as she stood and put her bag back on her shoulder. With her spear in the other hand she looked around then motioned for them to get moving. Normally she’d have left them alone to figure it out but since they would be defenseless as they carried their sister she would be their escort. “Lets move.”

—----

When they made it back Akeldama spared them only a simple glance before she started to head off toward her house but she was stopped by the injured girl.

“W-wait..” She called out weakly.

Akel paused in her step but didn’t turn around. She didn’t need to in her opinion. The girl could say what she wanted and then she could be on her way.

“I’m sorry for making such a rookie mistake.. And.. Thank you.” Her voice got softer at the end.

That made Akel turn her head just the slightest bit but she didn’t fully look back at the trio. “You’re welcome. Now get to the healer so she can make sure you don’t have an infection.” Poisons and venoms might be her thing but an infection was not. She had nothing to prevent those only basic skills.

Once her words were done she went back to heading home. She had roots to finish grinding into powder.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Taking a Different Route
Solo - Warrior/Stage 3 - WC 1501 (5pts)

The morning had started off as usual. Akeldama had left the house after spending the first meal with her partner and then went into the woods with her spear. Yava was right on her heels. Which was expected. The beast had been loyal since she’d first trained it. Not to mention Pruu didn’t exactly like it to stay at home when Akel wasn’t there. She still wasn’t adjusted to the beast even after all these years. In truth she was surprised that Yava had lived as long as he had. Still, she was grateful.

Moving along through the woods she headed toward a new area than her usual. In recent days Akel had gotten bored of her usual haunts. Mostly because she was starting to leave a natural trail where she frequented and that would warn any beasts off. She needed the area to become clear of her scent if she wanted to be able to continue there. That and it might give an opportunity for a new herd to move in. That would be nice for everyone. It would mean more sport but also a better supply of meat if it was needed.

As she walked along she kept her eyes open, scanning side to side to make sure nothing jumped out to surprise her. Akeldama was good at fighting and hunting but even she could be taken advantage of if she let her guard down. Even the best warrior could be taken down if they slipped.

Her ears caught the tell tale sound of Yava’s feet on the ground, used to the rhythm by now, but beyond that she heard wings in the canopy above. Birds were moving to be farther away from her as she passed. A good way for them to stay safe in their own little minds. Akel did not show them that even up there she could reach them with her weapon. She was not searching for any foul at the moment. No, she was after something a bit bigger.

Akel wanted to hunt something with more meat on it. With her daughters gone on their trip she and Pruu had been spending more time with a few of the other sisters. Well, sorta. They had been training more often at the grounds. Which came hand in hand with socializing with others. Having an empty house was new for them. It had been many years since they heard silence such as this. They were used to their girls being around and talking, or play fighting or even making messes. Akel had once even thought to make a mess simply to give Pruu something to tidy.

As she passed by a cluster of trees growing close together she heard the sound of leaves rustling and paused mid step. That had not been her or Yava. Akel slowly turned her head to the side. With her ears now honed in on the sound she found it to be to her left so she promptly moved her whole body to face that direction.

A click of her fingers got Yava’s attention and she pointed him in the direction of the sound. The beast waited for the span of a second before he moved. Quick steps took him closer to the sound and into a nearby tree. Akel followed along behind him but she didn’t go into the tree. Instead she stopped behind it so that she could use it for cover. Leaning to the side she peered out to see what they had found. Wirenths.

Not uncommon for the area. Akel stood still for a second looking at the beasts. From what she could see though it was a small herd. It was likely their numbers had been recently thinned out by a hunting party or natural selection. She made a mental note of where she’d found them. Akel also knew what their tracks looked like so if she had to follow them she’d be able to.

Turning back she gave a cluck of her tongue to call Yava back. The beast skittered down the tree to the ground and then was right back on her heels. Akel moved along to the invisible trail she’d been following before hearing the sound. Once she was on track again she made sure to keep her ears open for other sounds. Hunting was on her agenda for the day but a nice layout of the new area would also be useful. Knowing where things were located and what was coming up was to her advantage. Forward thinking would allow her to set traps and be one step ahead of the beasts she hunted.

Yava clicked his jaws before moving to go around her and take up a place in front. This caught her attention as usually the beast did not do that unless he caught the scent of something he wanted. Typically it was a small vermin that would be of no use to her. However, it was good sport to watch him take the thing down. So Akeldama slowed her pace and watched the beast she claimed as her own move into hunt mode. Yava’s pace increased and she followed.

After a few minutes her familiar took off and Akel came to a stop. She knew that her movements might interfere as the vermin would be scared of her. Not that Yava wasn’t scary on his own. As the Elarian waited she kept her eyes on the beast. He moved behind a tree quickly and made a scree as he attacked his little prey. A scuffle was heard and a squeak from the unprepared animal. By the end of it Yava came back with a little thing in his jaws, happily crunching away and Akel smirked at him.

“Couldn’t wait?” She asked.

No answer was expected as she knew the beast couldn’t answer her but it was funny to voice. With a shake of her head that caused her short dreads to move in front of her ears she chuckled. Akel used her right hand to put her hair back and started to walk again. So far she now had five natural landmarks to use for when she came this way again that would make the trip easier to navigate. It would also give her a bit of an estimate as to how far she was from home.

“I might just have to start coming this way more often.” In truth she’d avoided this particular direction because most of the sisters used it.

To her it had been a tainted area. Cluttered with the trails of others and usually too many hunters in one area would cause the herds to move on to safer spots. Or, if the beast was big and bad enough, then it would become more hostile when a hunter was spotted. Akel had never wanted to deal with either outcome honestly.

A click from her family told her that he’d finished his meal and she glanced down to see that he was once again in his usual position at her heels. A smile formed on her lips.

“Was it good?” A brow arched just a bit. “Better of been. You made enough noise to scare off anything else.”

She switched her spear to her other hand and took a deep breath. Akeldama was sure she wasn’t going to find anything else for a long while. Normally she’d be willing to go the distance but today she wasn’t feeling it. So she turned around and headed back the way they had come. After all, she’d spotted that small herd of Wirenths earlier that she could easily hunt down. They would make do as the catch for the day. Akel settled on them quickly and decided that she would bring home at least two of the beasts. One to share with the sisters that she and her partner trained with and one for her and Pruu to keep for themselves.

“Two should be plenty for us. The herd was small anyways.” She mused to herself in a hushed voice as she walked.

IN her mind she didn’t think taking more would be a good idea. If she did then she might cause the herd to perish. Especially if she took too many young ones or even those that were used mainly for defense. When she caught up to them she would need to observe them to see which ones would be the best to take in order to preserve the herd for future hunts.

Yava became silent as he followed along. Akel knew he wouldn’t be doing much more than that unless she ordered him to. The beast had learned well over the many years he had been with her.

“Alright boy.. Lets get a good meal for Pruu.” She looked down at her familiar with a grin before she brought her gaze back up to look in front of her with intent. They were getting close to where she’d left the small herd of Wirenths after all.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Showing the Bad Side
Solo - Warrior/Stage 3 - WC 1623 (5pts)

Ever since her encounter with her Niece in the woods and learning that others had made her uncomfortable she had been hunting for who it was. Akeldama didn’t want the small ones, the followers, she wanted the one responsible for the whispers and looks. It had taken her a couple of days and a lot of convincing to figure out who it was. Once she had a name, however, she invited them over for a drink. She wanted to have a conversation with them. She disguised it as a simple social visit about the hunting parties. It allowed her to be the one to prepare the tea and snacks. Which was her end goal all along.

The knock at the door let her know that her guest was there so she went and opened it. “Hello Sister, come in.”

“Thank you.” The one she’d learned went by the name Finna said.

“Have a seat and enjoy the tea.”

Finna did as suggested, ignoring the snacks as she picked up the cup of tea set out for her and brought it to her lips. After two sips she set it down and looked at Akeldama. “What is it that you wished to speak on? You mentioned the hunting parties.”

“Yes. We need to direct them to keep away from the eastern side. There is a new clutch of Keldari that will hatch soon. The parents will be over protective and strike out at any invader.” As she spoke she took up her own seat and lifted her cup of tea as well. When she was done speaking she took a large drink of her tea.

“How soon?” Finna was curious to know if it was needed now or if they could wait a few days before redirecting the hunting parties to a different area.

“I estimate a few days.” Akel lowered her cup to the table again and reached for one of the snacks she’d laid out. This one a dried fruit piece.

Finna took another drink from her cup as she thought about it. That didn’t give them much time and having another sister bitten by a Keldari due to negligence wasn’t something she wanted to deal with. So she nodded her head in agreement. “We can do that. The south has been proving more promising as of late.”

Akeldama nodded her head as she chewed on the dried fruit. Leaning back in her chair she looked the woman over. She knew from others that she used blades as her weapon, though that would have been evident simply by seeing them at her sides, but that alone wouldn’t have told her the woman’s skill level. She waited another couple of seconds or so before she leaned forward to take another snack from the table.

“There was something else that bothered me.”

“Oh?” Finna too took a snack and popped it into her mouth. “What was that?” She assumed it was something to do with the beasts in the woods or maybe even some poisonous plant that Akel had found somewhere.

“Disturbing rumors going around.” Akeldama leaned back casually and offered a smile to the woman.

“I don’t follow.” This was not what she’d been expecting.

“Of course.” Akel picked up her tea just as Finna did and took a sip, watching as the other Elaria drank. “You see, after some digging I learned that you were responsible for the whispers about my Niece.”

Finna paused, going still for a second before she regained her composure. “What about it? She’s not one of us.”

“Mhm. That doesn’t give you the right to make her uncomfortable. Our Alk mother’s are also not one of us and I do not hear you whispering about them.”

Finna snorted before she set her cup down to level a glare at Akel. “The girl is odd and is a mirror of her mother. She doesn’t have the heart of an Elaria.”

With her other hand she reached up and traced the rim of her cup, round and round. “She doesn’t have the heart of an Elaria because she isn’t an Elaria. She’s an Elidae. Her Mother Tree comes from a seed of our own Mother Tree. As such she deserves respect.” Losing interest in her drink she set it back down on the table, this time leveling her own gaze at Finna. “She also happens to be my Niece. My family.”

It was at this time that Finna started to feel uncomfortable, her throat feeling itchy and like there was something in it. She coughed a few times before taking another sip of her tea, thinking she had gotten a bit of the dried fruit stuck in it.

“The next time I hear a rumor or whispers or if my Niece comes to me and says she is uncomfortable with how the other sisters are treating her I am going to look at you.” Akel remained calm as she spoke, not phased by Finna’s coughing. She already knew what was happening. “To get my point across I added Keldari venom to the tea. I want you to understand how serious I am. You and the others got away with treating Pyrrha bad because I looked the other way but you will not get away with treating her daughter the same.”

When she heard that venom had been added to the tea she went wide eyed and brought a hand to her throat, her cup being practically thrown onto the table. Finna stared at Akel for a second before looking at her cup then to her own discarded one.

“Oh yes, I poisoned both so you wouldn’t get suspicious or ask to trade cups. I’ve developed a bit of an immunity, plus I took the anti-venom before you got here.”

“Give me the anti-venom.” Finna demanded.

“I think not. I will wait until you are close to rejoining Elzira before I allow you any kind of relief. You will understand how seriously I take family.” Akel reached over and took another snack from the table, this time taking her time to eat it. One little nibble at a time.

Finna debated with running out the door to the healer or simply waiting to see if Akel kept her word. She knew that this sister never lied or went back on a promise but the feeling in her throat was a lot. Not to mention she was starting to sweat. A healer would be able to help her if she could reach them in time and was able to tell them what she’d ingested. But she didn’t know how much time she had.

“Akeldama.” She said the other sister’s name.

“Finna.” Akel replied in kind.

“The anti-venom. Please.” Her voice was getting raspy.

“In a minute.” She appeared to be in no hurry to get up from the table.

“Akel.. I won’t say anything more about your family. I will get the others to stop.” Finna was getting desperate now. She could feel herself getting weaker and the effects of the venom were becoming painful from the inside out.

“Oh I know you will. I just want you to remember how far I am willing to go.” Akel would let Finna die if it meant putting an end to the discomfort felt by Enya. However, that wouldn’t help her right now. So she got up from her place and stepped over to Finna.

“Please..” Finna begged.

Akeldama sneered down at her, her expression losing the composure she’d kept this entire time. She did not like this woman. Respect for her had left the moment she’d found out it was she who was behind the rumors. Still, she was a sister and shared the same Mother Tree. Respect went to Elzira. So she grabbed Finna’s face roughly and jerked her forward, forcing her fingertips into the hinge of the woman’s jaw so that her mouth opened. Her other hand pulled the small vial of anti-venom from her skirt and she brought it up to her own mouth. Biting the top she popped the cork and spit it out to the side.

“If you or any of your friends do anything to make someone in my family feel like they are not good enough then I won’t waste my time telling you what I’ve poisoned.” That was all the warning Finna got before the anit-venom was poured down her throat.

Akel was not careful with it either. It splattered and splashed over Finna’s face as she fought with Akel. And when she had emptied the bottle she roughly shoved the woman back in her chair.

“Tell anyone what happened and I’ll make it look like your stupidity got the better of you.” Akeldama did not fear anything happening to her. If she got in trouble then she got in trouble, but she didn’t want her family to reap the consequences. So she needed Finna to understand that her mouth would remain shut on the matter.

Finna coughed and hacked as she adjusted to the anti-venom in her system. One eye peeked at Akel but she nodded her head in answer, her throat still constricted and raw from the Keldari venom.

“Good. Then compose yourself and leave my house before Pruu returns.” The absolute disgust in her eyes was enough to make Finna flinch.

Still, the other Elaria did as she was told. She got herself together enough that no one would suspect something and she quickly left without so much as looking back. Akeldama began gathering up the cups so that she could dispose of the poisoned tea and wash them thoroughly. She didn’t want there to be a trace of the venom left in case Pruu or Enya used the cups later.
