Akel 1
A heavy sigh escaped her as she stood with her right hand up to pinch the bridge of her nose. Her eyes were closed as she faced her daughter, well, one of them anyways. She’d been conned into taking Alizeh to the earthling town for some of their food. “Why did I let you talk me into this?” She wondered out loud. As much as she adored her daughter she was a bit put out by the fact that the Yaeli that passed by could do nothing more than stare with varying degrees of shock and/or horror.

“Because you love me?” She quipped as she bat her thick lashes at her Oma, even if the woman couldn’t see it. As several people passed by she smiled at them and offered up a wave of her hand as gently as she could manage. She’d learned a little bit on how to be as non-intimidating as possible from her earthling friend, Esai. “I just want to go to that one cafe and get that tea they serve.” She spoke again as she turned back to Akeldama. “Please Oma?” Alizeh brought her hands together in front of her as she begged.

A groan left her and she lowered her hand from her nose so that it hung at her side lazily. “Yes, you are adorable and do tend to get your way. Your Mother is going to whip me for giving in so easily.” She shook her head, sending her dreads into movement. “Fine.” She motioned with her head for the girl to follow her as she turned to head in the direction of the cafe. Akel knew which one it was. It was the only one she’d taken her daughter to and, as far as she knew, the only one her child had been to. In her left hand she carried her spear as she usually did but the tip was wrapped in cloth to put others at ease.

“Yes!” She was excited and gave a small bounce before she fell into line behind her mother. Wearing a grin that said she clearly won some type of prize she let her eyes roam around. Ali liked being out and about with the earthlings. She found them interesting and some of them were even kinda cute. In the adoptable pet kind of way. Not that she’d replace Esai Bunny so easily. “Mata won’t be too harsh with you, I’m sure.” She made the comment off handedly as she continued to follow along. While she knew the way to the cafe she liked not having to think about where she was going so she could keep busy with looking around.

“Riiight, and Pruu isn’t one of the only close combat women able to knock me on my behind.” A snort left her. In the village it was well known that if you couldn’t get in close to Akel then you had no chance. Her long spear gave her the advantage to keep her opponents away and since most chose to use closer combat weapons than her it always went in her favor. Akeldama glanced behind her at her daughter to make sure she wasn’t getting too far ahead before she looked forward again. Several people moved out of their way in fear of the taller pair. That didn’t bother her too much.

“The way you still fawn over Mata is cute Oma.” She cooed at her mother from behind her. She knew it would make her Oman blush since what the woman said clearly wasn’t meant to be a gushing moment. Ali chuckled and skipped a few times to catch up so that she could lean forward a bit and catch sight of the blush she knew would be there. It would give her something to grin about.

She gave her daughter a side glance that said she was both annoyed and pleased with the comment. Akel did fawn over Pruu. She couldn't help it. In her eyes she had the best partner. "Whatever, focus on getting your tea." She motioned forward so that her child would do as she was told. Once she said that she looked away from her daughter to hide her face for a second. After she got her blush under control she glanced back at Alizeh to make sure she was still right there.

She laughed a little then gave a small hum. Alizeh clasped her hands behind her back and walked along beside her mother, not getting too far ahead so she didn't get in trouble. "Did you want some tea too Oma?" Sometimes her mother would drink it with her and then other times she wouldn't, it just depended on her mood. "Or are you going to wait until we get home and have some juice that Mata made?"

Her head gave a small shake at the question. Tea wasn't really on her mind now. While she would still go to the cafe with her daughter she had no intentions of partaking this time. "I'll wait until we're home." Of course knowing that Pruu had made juice was also a big incentive for her to wait. She liked when her wife made things.
At the cafe she motioned once again for Alizeh to go ahead of her. There were people staring but she tried to ignore them.

She moved up in front of her mother to where the people were and waited until it was her turn to order. She was quick about it and made sure to use her manners so that no one thought she was being rude. Alizeh knew that most of the earthlings didn't trust her kind. When she was done she moved over to the side and found a place to wait with her mother by her side.
"Oma.." She said somewhat quietly. "Do you think earthlings will ever love one of us?" Ali couldn't help but look over the crowd of people.

She kept quiet as her daughter ordered what she wanted and then she paid, as was their usual routine when they stopped by. Akel followed Ali over to the spot to wait and then looked at her child when she spoke. The question that followed made her think about the whole thing. Akeldama's mind went to the little Yaeli boy she'd found in the woods once. He was small and innocent. While she didn't love the boy she did feel the need to protect him. He was a child.
"... Anything is possible." Akel settled on a simple yet vague answer. She couldn't give definite ones. But that did make her lift a brow at Alizeh. "Should I be concerned? Do you like an earthling?"

She gave a hum and a nod but continued to watch those around them. When her mother asked her if she liked an earthling she tilted her head to the side a bit. "Not really? I mean.. I like Esai Bunny but not that way. Not the way you like Mata." Esai was a friend if anything. One she would protect if she had to.
"I was just wondering because... well.. one of the older sisters in the village said that there are Alkidike hybrids so I was curious about it. If earthlings can love one of our cousins then they can love one of us too, right?"

She nodded her head at her daughter's words. Akel had no idea that there was talk in the village about the hybrids but then again it didn't really surprise her. "Well, the sisters aren't wrong. There are some. I've never met one." Akeldama wasn't sure how she'd feel about meeting one either. Then again, she was finding that her hateful way of thinking was changing a lot. Most of her views had come from her own mother but as she grew and was a mother herself she realized a lot of it was biased.
"Maybe if we ever meet one we can ask them about their earthling parent." If it helped Alizeh get a better understanding then she didn't mind learning things.

She thought about it a bit more but said nothing. Knowing that there were hybrids just opened up so many more doors for her people. If they were willing to walk through them.
Ali was silent for the rest of the wait and when she got her tea order she smiled brightly and took it with a thanks. Instantly she blew across the cup to cool the liquid down. With a grin she looked at her mother, excited to have her tea.

When she saw the little grin her daughter gave her at having the tea she rolled her eyes then reached out to ruffle the girl's dreads. "Happy now?" Despite the action she gave a soft smile of her own. Akel adored her girls so much.
She motioned for the exit. "Come on, we can start heading home now. It'll be getting late and we have a long way to go." All this way just for some stupid tea. She let out a long sigh and thought about all the things she did just to make her daughter's happy.
