Akel 1

She watched her daughter closely as she held a staff in her hands. Akeldama had forgone the spear as the point of the lesson wasn't to cause harm. She was trying to teach her daughter how to get past the defenses of someone who had the mid to long range advantage. "You have to find the opening." She tried to remind Alizeh.

Ali 1

She looked over her mother's form with a critical eye. There was no opening that she found. So when her mother told her to find it she became instantly frustrated. "You don't have one, Oma!" That was why she hated going against her mother in spars. Akeldama was a much more experienced fighter and never let her guard down.

She resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her daughter outburst. "I do have one, it's just hidden." Everyone had an opening. It was just a matter of discovering where and what it was. Sure, Akel was one of the more difficult to locate but that just meant that if Ali could take her on then Ali would have no problems with another opponent.

She gave a low growl as she circled. She looked again, trying to find the weak point in her mother's defense. When she thought she found it she went for it. Her wooden blade, the weapon she chose to use for this spar, was brought up in a swing toward Akel's thigh.

She waited and watched. Of course she figured her daughter would go for the obvious so she wasn't surprised when Alizeh came at her from the side to hit her in the thigh. The attack wouldn't be successful however. Akel would stop the wooden sword with the end of her staff, sending a loud clack into the air. "That was too obvious. If it looks like an easy swipe more than likely it's a lure."

When her mother smacked her blade away she felt the vibrations in her wrist and up her arm, hissing at the discomfort. "Ouch." She adjusted how she was holding the sword and glared at Akel. "That's not fair though. I found the opening, Oma." She was basically whining now.

This time she did roll her eyes at her daughter. The whining would get her nowhere. "You did, but it was a set up. I know that area is open so I would cover it more when someone came at me. A lure." She spoke calmly and moved back into position. "Try again."

Knowing that her mother had done that on purpose made her scoff slightly. Then she was told to try again. Ali looked at her blade with some consideration. She needed to ask her Mata to help her with how she held it. She might have a better time if she could keep her grip better. Still she started to circle her mother again to see if there was another opening she could exploit.

Once again she watched as her daughter circled around her. She let a small smile slip past. While she could see that Alizeh was getting frustrated she had to admire that she was still willing to try despite being stopped every time so far.

Ali did a full circle and a half before she straightened up. "Oma! You have no opening!" She was sure that her mother was a solid force with no weakness. But she was used to seeing her mother win against everyone but Pruu. "This isn't fair."

"It's not meant to be fair. Not every opponent will be equal to you." She wanted her daughter to know what it was like to face someone that was stronger than her. It wouldn't do her any good to fight someone weaker or the same level when there would be someone stronger down the road. "Focus, Alizeh. You can do this."

She was too frustrated to focus so she tossed the wooden sword to the ground. "Oma, you are one of the best. How am I supposed to beat you?" Tears were starting to gather in her eyes as she glared down at the ground. She didn't like the feeling of giving up but she didn't see how she was supposed to win.

Seeing her daughter toss the sword on the ground she stood up straight. She sighed heavily and shook her head. "Ali. You have to be able to handle your own against someone stronger. Better you learn with me than someone who can hurt you." And that was the lesson she truly wanted her daughter to learn. If she could get in past someone's defenses then she may stand a chance.

She took a deep breath in to calm herself and prevent the tears from falling. She didn't want to cry because she wasn't winning. But she did look at her mother with some bit of acknowledgement. "I don't think I am very good with swords, Oma. I feel like I'm holding holding it all wrong." And she was. If the way it hurt when her mother blocked her strike earlier was an indication then she was likely to hurt herself before she hurt anyone else.

She considered Alizeh for a moment then nodded her head. "Alright, so you don't favor the sword. That is fine. Did you want to try a spear or a bow?" There were other weapons too but those were the main ones that she could think of off the top of her head. And if one of those fit better in her daughter's hand then she was okay with that. "No one said you have to use a sword." She wanted to be as reassuring to her child as possible.
