In response to the Meta nightmares prompt
The bizzare dream had first come the night of her Awakening as Mimisbrunnr. Normally Tali had fairly ordinary dreams, but somehow she could tell this one was different.
Part of the difference, of course, was that she started the dream not as shy, squirrely teacher Talaitha Lovel, but as Mimisbrunnr Page of Mercury, magical planetary warrior in training.
Also, she couldn't think of a time when she'd dreamt up a bizzare column of darkness in the center of Destiny City, or the horrible urgency that filled her steps as she wandered the city.
"Babylon!" She called, automatically, reaching for the only ally she knew. "Babylon, are you here?"
No response, just silence. That was eerier than anything she could have conjured up, and anyway, normally her nightmares had a rational source. This wasn't an ordinary anxiety dream, unless it was somehow related to the sudden knowledge she had acquired.
But why would she see a frozen city, dead silent, with no sign of life anywhere?
She turned a corner, and a shriek left her mouth.
Standing in front of her was Babylon, lantern raised and face frozen in an expression of horror. It was perhaps the most frightening thing she'd ever seen - what could be so awful it could scare Babylon, around whom the Page had already constructed sort of a fantasy of invincibility? Babylon, who had charged into combat with a crazy sword-weilding General with no fear for his own life? Tthere had to be something awful at the heart of the city, in that column of black.
She dodged around his statue and started running, panic gripping her, and practically fell into the frozen form of Ganyel, looking just as afraid as the Knight she had passed.
"No, no no no, ves'tacha no, you can't be..." What was this thing that had reached out to grab not only those involved in the strange, secret war, but those outside it too? She slid her arms around Ganyel's statue, huge wracking sobs escaping her. "Please wake up," she begged, for all it was worth.
She felt the statue begin to crumble before she saw it, and she jerked her head up, watching the column of black expand and everything in its path fall apart.
"NO!" She screamed, as if somehow her words could stop what was happening before her eyes.
And then she jerked awake, in the apartment she shared with her girlfriend, and immediately she turned to make sure Ganyel was still in bed beside her.
She let out a choked sob of relief when she saw she was, and she lay back down, cuddling up against her.
She made a promise to herself (and to Ganyel) that night. She was going to come clean - tell her the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Maybe if Ganyel knew, it would save her life someday.
Especially if whatever Tali had seen in her dream came to pass.

It came in bits and pieces and trickles, a flash here, a dream there, a hallucination of a face she knew-but-didn't and a nightmare of death and destruction and the end of worlds and of Earth.
They were visions of a future that belonged, entirely, to Chaos -- to the Negaverse, an important distinction when one of their best allies had been the Dark Mirror. Senshi who might be Chaos-touched but were not Chaos-tainted, not bound to Metallia's will and therefore free to choose to fight against her.
Metallia. She had never heard the name, before now, but with the "false" (were they false? They felt so real, she could feel, intimately, the blade that had passed through her chest and ended her life even as she stood defiant in front of the Negaverse and the crowd and everyone who had challenged her and spit on her and called her "terrorist" and "monster" and murderer") memories of this time - this doom - yet to come it was imprinted in her mind and utterly unforgettable.
She remembered a General, one totally unfamiliar to her, attacking her, attempting to corrupt her - and failing, because at her very core, by then, she had been incorruptible, and inextricably linked with Mimisbrunnr the Library and Mimisbrunnr the Well and its magic. When he couldn't turn her, when she revealed herself as a Knigh,t he had turned on her students, children who had not deserved the terrible deaths they had.
She had gotten her revenge, but it was hollow, and then she had fled.
And she had become something unfamiliar and cold. Someone unfamiliar and cold. Someone willing to turn her magic on Lieutenants and Captains and Generals and Corrupt Senshi of all ranks to frighten them and make them speak and make them divulge their masters' plans.
And it had all been for naught.
In the end, Order had fallen.
In the end, they had been ripped apart by youma, or murdered by officers, or taken by Chaos, or captured and hauled up on a stage, to die or submit in the public eye.
(Her future self had been so brave, even if her heart had been ice, even if she was cold and cruel and all sharp edges and so little warmth and humanity. She had been brave and strong and she had challenged her captors and reminded them that the end didn't have to be the end.)
""You think you've broken us - that you've won. But you haven't. Others will rise to take our place - until the Earth is free! And even though it might take a thousand years for the light of Order to glow again, it will always shine again. So kill me now, today, but there will always be another Mimisbrunnr. We'll keep fighting, and we'll keep coming back, and one day, no matter how many cycles it takes - one day we'll beat you back."
That had been what she had said, her last words to the crowd before she had been executed.
The Mimisbrunnr of today would never have the courage to say something like that in front of a hostile crowd, in front of people who undoubtedly wanted her dead. The Mimisbrunnr of today might have fallen to her knees, submitted to Chaos, let herself be theirs in order to survive.
The Mimisbrunnr of today could learn a lot from the Mimisbrunnr of the future.
And so amid the horror, amid her newfound terror of the potential power of the Negaverse - Tali found hope.
There was someone better she could be.
