It's a lion, get in the car !******** " Eli practically spat the curse, his green eyes darted about the rocky landscape looking for the source of the rattling noise he'd just heard. The absolute last thing he needed right now was an angry rattlesnake he couldn't see while in the middle of a piss. Of course one would pick now to be around while he was decidedly unable to move easily and with Kell busy sniffing the perimeter of the area they were making camp in. This naturally meant that for the all of two minutes Eli was on his own, fate had decided to let the creatures of the wasteland have their revenge and attempt to kill him in the most embarrassing way possible.
Fortunately for Eli when the sandy coloured snake actually appeared, predictably just as he'd finished up, it was about a foot and a half away from his left leg. The thing had been well hidden under a nearby rock outcropping and had slithered out unnoticed by the occupied man until it's distinctive warning rattling had started. At least if it struck from this range, by the looks of it, it was within distance, it stood a good chance of hitting his boots which offered more protection that his pants.
Now he had anti-venom on him as always but that wasn't going to be necessary, keeping his eyes focused on the serpent at all time Eli slowly, so as not to provoke an attack, reached down to pull the belt knife from it's sheath on his left hip. The movement was fluid and practiced, as was the way he cocked the blade before he tossed it. Thuk Pinned to the ground straight through the skull was one very dead snake. The steel blade had struck true, potentially saving one life and ending another.
Getting careless he was, Eli thought, to have not checked beforehand even at this time of day , it wasn't a mistake he should have made with the years he'd spent out here and it wasn't one he intended to make again. It'd been years since he was last bitten and the auburn haired man intended to keep it that way, twenty five was too old to die from snake bite becuase he'd starting corners.
Though the young man was unsure of an Essentics vulnerability to snake venom he made note to remember to teach his about them as soon as it decided to grace him with it's presence.
As if it sensed Eli's thoughts, the spark still in it's limestone container which was now carried in a side compartment of his backpack, created another strong pull on their connection. No talking about it as if it wasn't there.
Eli rolled his eyes and shook his head as he picked his way through the rocky terrain down to where Kell was waiting patiently for him with their camp gear. 'You know you might have been some help there not necessary perhaps but useful.' he thought to the spark while he walked.
This time there was no response.
~~~~
It was hours later with evening setting in quickly. Eli was busy roasting the skinned snake on a spit over a fire, rattlers were decent eating and there was no point in wasting in the kill. It also meant an extra meals worth of protein that wasn't coming from the supplies he'd packed which was always a bonus.
Kell was asleep at his feet and Eli was taking the time to once again examine his spark while he cooked. The hound hadn't attempted to harm or take the defenseless Essentic just yet but still he seemed highly disturbed by the spark's presence so it was easier to work with it when he was not around or sleeping. Eli could only hope this unease between the two did not continue once the spark evolved into a proto, he needed co operation here.
Leather gloved hands held the spark and turned it this way and that as he tried to take in as much of the strange, star shaped, thing as possible. Eli noticed with more then a little amusement that the bright orange ectoplasm seemed to be sparking again like it had back at the manor. It created small hissing flames in itself that mimicked the ones of his bonfire. This made the man wonder just how aware the spark really was.
Suddenly there was a small rustle in the sagebrush to his right. Eli peered through the dimming light in that direction. Still as a statue, half hidden by the brush was a tawny coloured desert Hare. Small and young it clearly didn't know to be wary of humans while foraging and had wandered far too close to his camp for it's own good. Hunter and prey locked eyes but neither moved or breathed, Eli couldn't repeat the snake trick from a sitting position at least not with his hands full of....
A small smirk formed on on the man's dry chapped lips as a somewhat dangerous thought passed through his mind. Just then a log in the fire popped and sent crimson and orange sparks into the air. This startled Kell awake and the hare into bolting.
'First hunting trip starts now' he thought tossing the spark like a deadly rock frisbee at his prey. Eli hoped kill or stun the creature without damaging the spark, not that he's thrown the rock overly hard. What he was neither hoping for or expecting was the dark orange ectoplasm to flare up practically exploding off the rock as it connected with the hare, a few feet ahead of where the now awake Kell was chasing it.
" What the hell?" That was not supposed to happen.!
Eli stared in shock as a dark yellow lion? With orange and red armor covering much of it's body and face sat only a few feet away, a now dead hare hanging limply from it's mouth , the prey's head completely inside the Essentics mouth " Target has been captured and rendered dead, is the hunt complete?" Despite a full mouth there was no muffling of the words, they came out like a low, cold, emotionless, rumble.
Eli nodded slowly, trying to make sense of what he was seeing, he'd truly not expected his proto to emerge like this, shape or situation wise." Yeah hunt complete, thanks." Talking deep breaths the man tried to calm himself and think logically, he noted that Kell was crouched down and staring intensely at the Essentic, but the dog was not growling and that was a good sign. He could really on focus on one of them at a time right now.
" Thanks are not required, my job is to hunt, you initiated one and I completed the task." Though the lion like Essentic's tone remained cool and a bit distance there was faint glow behind it's yellow pupil less eyes.
Eli doubted they were proper eyes at all. To be honest he doubted much of the proto was really anything like the flesh beat it somewhat resembled. Not to mention it was going to be impossible to explain to anyone how it seemed to have armor literally screwed into it. It, which really needed a name, was definitely going to have to be hidden from the public and no flower pot on the planet could help disguise it.
Life was about to get very very interesting.
Training starts now
Eli watched as Uzi stared intensely at the book he'd placed in front of it just seconds before. The auburn haired man had told the Essentic it's proper hunting training started today and there had been a great deal of what the man assumed was enthusiasm in the lion like proto's low rumble and flicking of it's tail. At least there had been until he'd presented it with the book anyways, now there was just silence and Uzi had gone back to it's normal motionless, silent, staring phase. " It's not going to hurt you you know" Eli teased. Not that he thought much of anything could, the combat Essentic was well armored and pretty damn intimidating, at least as far as the human was concerned. Not quiet the size of a real lion but certainly nothing to be taken lightly either. Uzi gave a small decidedly dismissive sounding growl and it's yellow pupil less eyes pulsed with light briefly. " How does it help?" It reached out to poke the book tentatively with a paw. Old and thick with red leather binding, the book had a large stag with twelve tined antlers embossed on the cover. It was an old hunting and tracking manual that's been in Eli's family for generations, only advances in paper making technology kept the pages from yellowing and showing their true age. The green eyed man had received the manual from his father when he'd been just a boy. It felt a bit awkward handing it over to what was decidedly not his child but Eli figured at least it got some use again this way. " At least open it before you get all skeptical" Eli sighed and shook his head. Uzi was, in a very short amount of time proving to be more difficult than the man had been expecting. None of it was intentional, at least Eli hoped not. The orange and red armored Essentic did so carefully then stared down at a long lost of names and page numbers, " Animals? Things we hunt?." Eli could have sworn Uzi's voice sounded hopeful. " The first step in hunting is tracking, it doesn't matter how well you learn the techniques to kill a creature if you don't know how to find it first." Eli explained, not to mention there was a limit to the things Eli could teach Uzi about his style of hunting when the proto lacked proper hands so he needed to stall while he changed his lesson plan. " I've marked the more relevant sections since some of the animals in there aren't things native to this area anymore." Wildlife, both predators and prey certainly still existed in large enough numbers for him to hunt without decimating populations but a lot of creatures in that book no longer existed or at least not within a range he was willing to go to hunt them. Simply one of the many remaining after effects of the crisis. A few minutes later Eli and Uzi were soon sitting side by side on the floor while the shaggy haired man read to his proto. Eli figured that going over at least one animal profile with Uzi and relaying his own stories to it after the information was done would help them bond. It might also make up for the fact that they weren't headed out on an actual hunting trip for a while yet. Throwing Uzi at a hare as a spark didn't really count. " Ok, so were starting with the cougar or mountain lion, it's one of the big cats we'll see semi often out in the wastelands. Their pelts make decent rugs and their skulls sell for a reasonable price too." It certainly wasn't the animal that brought him in the most money but it cougars were a pretty good example of something Eli ran into often enough that they helped sustain his way of life. Somewhat ironic that Uzi resembled one to a degree but the proto was truly in no way at all like the beast it had taken it's form from. If nothing else Uzi certainly didn't think of itself as a Lion. " Meats pretty good for eating too. " Eli continued, jerky, sausage, roast, there was quite a surprising bit one could do with the big cats flesh and it was always in Eli's nature to make the most out of any kill he made. Uzi simply stared at Eli expectantly but then gave a low rumble of acknowledgment of the man's words. Once that was dealt with they began to cover the rest of the ways to identify a cougar when tracking, starting with by it's paw prints. Using pictures in the book Eli showed Uzi how the big cat's four toes were tear dropped shaped, as opposed to a canine's which were more triangular. Taught it that of the two middle toes whichever one was higher up on a track told you whether it was a left or right paw and and how to differentiate between front and hind foot tracks. Eli explained that when looking at an actual pawprint and not a sketch or a cast, one with see an upraised ridge between the toes and main paw pad and that there should never be claw marks unless it was a dew claw. Strange facts but important to know in their line of work as was how many lobes the bottom and top part of the main paw pad had. Being able to track was important, knowing exactly what you were tracking was equally of value. Uzi seemed to be absorbing all this new information fairly well and Eli was pleased if a bit jealous, it'd taken him much longer to memorize all the facts himself years ago when he was first being taught. Still this wasn't about him, this was about teaching Uzi, who was by nature meant to learn this faster, to know what it was hunting so it was never shocked with what it'd have to face. Not that the Essentic seemed to be capable of being shocked.
Observations " We'll be gone for most of the day , try to amuse yourself without being seen and breaking anything else." " The lamp was not my fault" Uzi pointed out defensively to Eli, who was standing in the doorway to the house about to head out onto the front porch, canine by his feet. " The dog failed to avoid hitting the table the lamp was on." Which had resulted in the light giving object falling and shattering beyond repair. " Kell, not the dog and you were chasing him which is why he hit the table to begin with." Eli corrected sending an meaningful green eyed stare at Uzi. Uzi merely rumbled an untranslatable response, the essentic could not deny this accusation, it had indeed been chasing the dog. Of course in the proto's mind it had all be training even if the dog had not agreed to help. It was not Uzi's fault the other was unable to dodge the obstacle in it's way. " Just behave" Eli's words were equal part plea and order, either way they were to be obeyed. " I will behave" Uzi agreed and watched, eyes glowing faintly as Eli and the dog left the house. It was alone now and as long as Uzi behaved it could do as it pleased. The essentic had no problems with this arrangement. ~ With Eli gone and no desire to pour over the manual again, it seemed pointless until Uzi had a chance to test the things it'd already learned, the essentic decided to explore the parts of it's home it had previously not seen or otherwise ignored. Focused on increasing it's hunting skills and sticking close to Eli, in the short time Uzi had been alive it had not really bothered to fully check out all the available areas in it's living space. Turning away from the door Uzi padded quietly on the wooden floor and down the picture lined hallway to investigate all the house had to offer. ~ A short while later the armored essentic found itself rather thankful that the handles for most of the doors in the house were lever like, the round brass doorknobs were a pain to work with the cat like proto's paws. Not impossible but oftentimes far more effort to get get to work then was worth it for whatever was behind the door they were on. Eventually Uzi opened the door to what Eli had referred to as his workroom, uzi had never been inside it before and was curious to see just what lay within the room. Curiosity killed the cat was not a phrase the essentic was familiar with although Uzi would likely have agreed with the retort that satisfaction brought her back. Instantly Uzi registered coldness upon entering into the large room, both in the air and on the pads of it's feet. The flooring in here was a dull grey concrete and the walls an unknown substance that kept the large space cool and dry. Uzi supposed this was for the sake of the pelts which were kept here , many of which were currently dangling from the ceiling for some reason or another. What happened to an animal and it's various parts after it had been successfully hunted was currently of little interest to the proto, their job was to make sure they made the kill, it was up to Eli what was done with the prey after. Still in the dimly lit room the masked essentic's eyes pulsed an eerily bright yellow as Uzi wandered the room and took in the sight of so many animal's skins. Some it recognized from pictures in the manual and some were utterly foreign. They were all interesting though in some way or another. Some were spotted while others were striped, some thin and others more heavy furred, dark coated and light, large and small. Truly there was a large variety of creatures out there to be hunted and seeing all the skins made Uzi all the more eager to get out into the wastelands and prove itself. Curiosity getting the better for Uzi for the moment the yellow skinned proto stood up carefully on it's hind legs and batted lightly at some of the hanging skins; trying in it's own way to get a sense for their weight and the actually feel of the fur. Briefly Uzi wished it was taller, there were too many different smells coming from the various pelts to distinguish them from each other and they were unable to get any closer to them for the moment. A brief flare of perhaps jealousy ran though the orange armored creature, the dog knew all these creatures by smell. Uzi would have to learn them quickly then prove they were the more suited companion, after all they were made to serve and hunt in far greater capacity then a dog which aged and was weak. The essentic was dragged out of it's thoughts by the sight of something peculiar up on a the nearby work desk. A bleach white skull of what must have been some sort of big cam for it resembled the shape of Uzi's own head sat in a glass case at the back pushed against the wall. So strange it was, Uzi thought to be abale to see what lay beneath the skin and muscle. Hard bone from which Uzi could easily make out the nasal cavities which looked odd compared to how the creatures actual nose looked. Then there was the sunken cavernous eye sockets that seemed larger than they should to the the proto. There was also no sign at all that the creature had ears which made Uzi flick it's own small rounded ones. Then again after the eye sockets the skull in and of itself was all weirdly shaped so who knew exactly what was meant to be placed where. The full body design of the creatures that were it's prey was currently beyond Uzi's knowledge. Moving on to look at the other cases lined up on the desk Uzi wondered what it's own skull was like. After all the essentic was aware just becuase it's proto form was shaped somewhat like a bit cat that not make it one. An odd feeling passed over Uzi at that moment but the essentic just tossed it's maned head and simply went back to looking at the various skulls on display. Rodents, lizards and unknowns all in that dark white with teeth varying shades light or darker, Uzi was starting to find itself fond of the skulls. In the very last case was something that didn't even look like a skull at all It wasn't even white like the other ones instead it was a sandy brown with odd patterns on it. Though it did have weird openings on it none of them looked right for eyes or noses. With no label either Uzi made a mental note to ask Eli what it was later. Deeming nothing else in the room worth investigating the essentic turned around and headed for the door, onto the next room and next set of things to be analyzed.
Dark of the night Patience might be an asset for a hunter but it was decidedly not Uzi's strong point, especially when so far the Essentic had been unable to actually get out and do it's job. To a degree the proto understood that Eli did not go out every day and that the man had other obligations and thing to do but it had worn thing on the golden lion shaped being's patience. If Eli could not take Uzi hunting than Uzi would go alone, under the cover of darkness and being careful not be caught of course but it was going. The masked essentic would apologize later, for now though Uzi's mind was focused on the task at hand or paw as it may have been in this particular case. While Eli and the dog slept, Uzi carefully opened the front door and slipped out onto the long, old,wooden. porch. All was quiet, the other dogs asleep in the kennel and no other creatures stirring. The night itself was pitch black, the stars and moon blocked out by thick low lying clouds that promised heavy rain come morning. All the better, Uzi thought, to sneak around during, the darkness was no hindrance to the essentic it's eyes were their own light and saw more than most anyways, picking up heat signatures as well. The combat essentic was a well made hunter and Uzi was determined to prove itself. Loping across the dewy grass Uzi headed for the edge of the Galvao property as fast as possible. Though the dogs were sleeping they too were creatures of the night and the essentic was well aware that they could smell her and might feel the need to wake the other humans. That was not permitted and so the armored proto skirted around their kennels and bounded for open field and freedom. It was rather advantageous for the yellow eyed being that the Galvao property edge doff into the wastelands, it meant practically no risk of being spotted by strangers and a quicker route to what could be considered hunting grounds. Of course big predators and prey , things worthy of Uzi's attention would be farther out, not daring to stray so close to a human settlement. For all that they weren't purely made for this like her Uzi found humans, particularly Eli's family, were rather impressive killers worthy of respect. The wastelands were truly different from the mostly flat, short grassed human cultivated area that was the Galvao lands. With no one to tend to it or force things to grow in a certain way the wastelands were truly a wild place. The arid desert like space between cities and oases contained steep slopes of craggy rocks and loose, dry, grainy soil that produced small dust clouds as Uzi darted across the the vast open expanse. The hunter was thrilled to be running through the night towards prey and a good proper hunt, well perhaps not proper as Eli was not there but it was close enough to make Uzi feel like it was fulfilling it's purpose. Having only been out in the wastelands the one time and very shortly at that the essentic took in the surroundings carefully, making note, as best it could as things flashed by, of the general disbursement of sage brush, low lying thorny bushes, cacti and other flora that was native to the area. They were obstacles to avoid during chases and places prey might attempt to hide. This area now was Uzi;s and the essentic intended to memorize it's layout. Eventual Uzi slowed down to a slower but quieter pace, the essentics eyes glowed an eery bright yellow; carefully scanning the area for anything that might be considered suitable prey. Eventually of in the distance they located a heat signature emerging from the ground. Long, low to the ground and and moving with it's own predatory gait. It only took a moment for Uzi to identify it as a fox and then the essentic dimmed it's eyes as best as possible so as not to give it's position away as it padded closer. Uzi was sure it could could run the fox but stalking the creature properly was enjoyable and it was curious to see how close it could get before the fox bolted. Foxes were not reffered to as sly or crafty for nothing though and once the other predator realized it was being hunted the vulpine bolted off into the night. Uzi took chase with glee, this was how things were supposed to be. Sadly the chase was short and as Uzi closed the gap between itself and it's quarry a swing from a massive paw to the back legs tripped the fox up sending it tumbling to the ground. The other was down long enough for Uzi to pounce and breaks the fox's neck by sheer weight alone. There were other methods of attack certainly but they would have risked damaging the rich the hide and that was the most useful part of the animal to Eli. Uzi gently picked up the dead but still warm fox in it's mouth, being careful not to let it's fangs pierce the dead beast's hide, prey secured it turned for home. Part of Uzi was tempted for a moment to wait and hunt something else as the fox, predator or not hadn't been very challenging. Lacking hands though or any way to really carry more than it currently had it would have been pointless unless Uzi left the fox behind for whatever else it found. Better just to go home and show Eli what they had already accomplished so as to convince the man to take Uzi on a proper extended trip where the hunter could bring down more challenging and impressive game. The added weight of the fox it carried did little to slow The essentic's return and Uzi found themselves back home in relatively little time and feeling little exhaustion from the effort. Not that any tiredness they did feel was enough to even begin to make the proto think they should have gone slower or paced themselves, they were built for this and it was in the combat type's nature to push it's body regardless of if there was need. The feline like essentic paused on the front porch though pondering the next step, should it bring the fox inside and take it directly to Eli waking him or leave it on the porch and wait....?
Personal space Eli wiped a thin sheen of sweat from his forehead then place his calloused hand back on the side of the dresser as he continued to shove it down the hallway. Even though the thing was on wheels it was large, solid hard wood, and heavy which did not make it easy to steer. Getting it up the stairs had been a nightmare even with his father's help.Said father who was currently downstairs taking a breather from the effort. Eli had finally figured it was impossible to hide Uzi from his parents forever and had informed them of the current situation. Naturally they were unphased if mildly concerned about the illegality of it all. At the end of the conversation though there had been acceptance and his mother's insistence that Uzi needed a room of it's own now, not whenever it started to look human. Also that Eli needed to encourage the essentic to pick a gender Eli wasn't so certain about that but he wasn't about to argue with his mother even if Uzi itself showed no particular interest in having a space clearly designated as it;s own. Possibly, Eli thought, becuase Uzi seemed to have claimed the whole whole as it's territory and the essentic roamed and it pleased. Still, it was good idea to have the room at least set up even if Uzi wasn't going to use it for now. As for the gender thing, Eli was pretty much content to let Uzi decide all by itself, assuming it ever chose. After all Zia never had and it seemed perfectly happy the way it was. Eventually Eli got the dresser into the room along with a nightstand, box spring and a mattress. Assembling the bedframe took relatively little time though it would have been faster if he'd had help to keep the steel beams stable. Then again he could hear his father downstairs telling Uzi some old hunting stories and the proto was actually asking questions and expressing interest. Eli had been unable to justify breaking up their fun when he was capable of assembling the frame alone. The man thought it was good that the essentic was actually socializing even if it was only within his family. Vaguely he wondered if his father's stories could somehow lead to Uzi picking up an influence, shrugging the thought off Eli stood and and brushed off the dust his pants had picked up from his sitting and kneeling on the floor. ~~ Uzi leapt up the stairway, covering three to four steps with each jump, it was faster and honestly easier than going step by step like the human's did; the proto wasn't really built to handle to handle the stairs anyways. For reasons even the essentic didn't quite understand it had waited though for Eli's father to clear the steps first instead of racing ahead and having him follow like normal. Was this respect? An acknowledgment that the old human was wiser and more experienced in the hunt then even Uzi itself with all it's instincts. The idea was humbling in a way but not wholly distressing. Uzi found Eli's father to be pleasant conversation if nothing else. Though it did sense that the man was struggling a little aroudn it as if Uzi'spresence reminded it of the essentic he had apparently known. The lion like creature padded quickly down the upstairs hallway before slipping through the doorway into the room that had been designated as it's own. Eyes that glowed a bright yellow scanned the area before Uzi gave a soft rumble of approval. Aside from the necessary furnishing items stuffed into it the room was fairly open and spacey. It would be habitable for Uzi even in the proto's current form although the armored essentic had no intention of attempting sleep on the bed just yet, the carpeted floor would do just fine and was better for stretching out on. " It is a nice room, thank you." Cuch politeness was atypical for Uzi's normal behaviour patterns but it had been informed earlier that such words were necessary to properly show approval and gratitude for the work that had been done for it's sake. The smile Eli gave as he stated it was nothing made the essentic glad it'd said them . Uzi might be distant with most others but Eli was important, seeing him happy made the proto content and assured that all was well. The fact that Eli and his family had made the effort to make Uzi seem more like one of them and less the tool essentics were supposed to be filled Uzi with confusion. Yet the proto had to admit to itself it did appreciate this gesture, this space that had been rearranged just for them.
Confusing conversations " You cannot out stare me" Uzi rumbled softly, golden eyes stared at the woman who sat on the front porch rail above the essentic. It was late afternoon, the sun staring to slip below the horizon making the sky a myriad of reds, yellows and oranges that complimented Uzi's own colouring well. The suns rays reached far enough though to fall upon the uneasy pair warming their skin. " I do not blink" the lion like proto continued. Uzi flicked it's tail back and forth lazily, there was no purpose to the motion it did not serve to distract prey, lure them close nor did it help the hunter in any way. Still it felt right to be more.. fluid more .. alive. The combat type was no less focused on intense but in small ways it was allowing itself to be more than just it's commands. " I was just looking at you" The girl replied tersely. Arlize, Uzi thought her name is Arlize and she is Eli's cousin. Their meeting and her knowing about Uzi was a matter of necessity and general family trust unlike when Eli had chosen to explain about Uzi to his parents. The essentic could also sense a greater tenseness in this female than in Eli's parents, this odd looking girl was distressed though Uzi could not tell if it was by it's presence or the reason for Alize's own presence here. " There is nothing to see now that was not there earlier" Hours, uzi had been stuck around Alize for hours on the trek back from where they'd met with her, her father, and very stubborn mule, completely by accident as the pair headed towards galvao lands and Vargash in general. Alize's father, Eli's uncle was ill and where he came from they could not cure him, they'd come in search of hope from the more technological advanced big city. Even if it was, to Uzi's understanding taboo, a bad thing to have had to have done. The girl glared at Uzi again the strange markings on her face contorting as she did so. " I was just wondering if you had a soul, you're alive and all things alive have them but" Alize paused " You were brought to life by means unnatural and so perhaps not." " What is a soul" A strange word, Uzi had heard it before but never paid much attention and now was curious. Did essentics have souls? If so what was their purpose. "A soul is the reason we exist" The dark haired girl explained not knowing just how much trouble that one little sentence could cause " A soul is a purpose then? I must have one I am a hunter" Though Uzi was confused plants lived and thus had souls but plants didn't really have purposes. The dark skinned girl shook her head and trialed fingers over the markings on her leg. " It's more complicated that that and you have a job, anyone can learn to hunt but no ones soul is a hunter." Alize hopped off the porch and tapped Uzi on the nose " a soul is a thing that drives you towards your purposes but it's also many other things that would take a long time to explain. It's the reason we exist becuase without souls we are nothing" " You believe I am nothing " Uzi disliked the concept greatly about as much as the unexpected touch. " I think you are complicated" Alize replied. " Like a soul?" " Yes" " But I don't have one?" " I don't know" Alize shrugged. " How do you get one" They sounded useful. " You have one or you don't" " Could I steal one?" " No.. well yes but it would take magic and it would be wrong" Alize looked highly disturbed at the idea "Why?" " Because everyone is different and so are our souls, they are only meant to belong to one person or creature, " " Can I see yours?" Maybe if Uzi knew what soul looked like the essentic could know if it had one. " No" " Why?" " It's invisible" " Then how do you know it's there?" Perhaps souls were things people made up to feel more special becuase they didn't really have purposes " It's complicated" " You're lying." Invisible things that controlled your life and made it meaningless with. The sun was nearly gone by the time Uzi came to realize souls were not a lie. That magic and goddesses and bonds and purses were words with much deeper means that the essentic had ever known. Talking had distracted Alize and put her worried mind to rest for now, in return the balance of the universe had taken a formerly content essentic and created a near nervous wreck.
Congratulations it's a girl There were a lot of things on Eli's mind lately, unable to clear his head of them and sleep had meant the man spending the night on the front porch sipping a beer and trying to deal with his thoughts and feeling; or alternatively trying to drown them out. The redhead wasn't really a big drinker but the occasional beer every now he did. This was an occasion that called for beer. At the moment Eli's mind was was mostly stuck on the whole concept of Uzi as a female. It wasn't as if he'd ever had a preferred gender for the essentic or would have been bothered if like Zia they'd remained gender neutral. However it was still a bit strange for the man to accept that suddenly Uzi was now a girl, especially since the lion like proto's behavior hadn't really changed at all. He blamed this of course on his recent visit to the Katan household. Something about Lee's mother had clearly appealed to the essentic and while he doubted the woman was a formal influence she'd clearly gotten into Uzi head enough to effect her choice of gender. It was just awkward to think about becuase eventually Uzi would be an alter and if she remained female.. he was going to have what might as well be a teenage girl running around his around his house. Honestly Eli didn't know much about teenage girls beyond what he'd learned during the four years of highschool and that had only confused him more than anything. It wasn't that he'd been unaware of them especially as a hormonal teen just that all his testosterone had been focused into learning to hunt on weekend trips with his father. No girl's kiss had ever been as satisfying as a successful hunt. Then there was that whole bleeding thing.. calloused fingers rubbed at the man temples. There were some things in the the world He was just not going to be able to deal with and Uzi pmsing was one of them. He was going to have to call Banning later and asked if she was capable of it, he sincerely hoped the answer was no. Aside from potential extremely awkward situations though there was a more serious issue about all this that weighed heavily on the hunter's mind. Uzi was acting almost human. She made decisions based on actual personal desires and qualities that were appealing to her, not just becuase they were useful to her job. The essentic was thinking and learning in a disturbingly similar fashion to a small child. Taking in what the world gave her and emerging from these learning experiences as a more developed person. Uzi had always been more than a tool to Eli, she was a partner, like Kell. He'd expected some degree of individualism and perhaps an odd quirk or two especially once influences were introduced but this was making him a bit uneasy. It all seemed to be happening so fast. On one hand Eli was pleased to see that Uzi was changing to become more more of an individual and to a slight degree less of the cold, distant single minded essentic he had first acquired as a spark. It was good to see her developing so that maybe he could get a better idea of who Uzi really was and how they would best work together. On the other hand he worried about the possibility of not liking who or what the proto might become and more importantly worried about how Uzi would view herself and what that meant for her future.
