~*Bringing Home Cody*~

The day before, Shadai had received a strange letter and within it, a form to be filled out and a short explanation. Apparently at a place somewhere there was a child waiting for her... How strange had it been, perhaps it had been tied into the fact that she had been thinking about adopting a little child of her own... Nah, that was a crazy thought right there.

And so, she had filled out the form and sent it in and was currently parked outside of a rather large building. It was creepy and had a dark, mystical aura to it, a feeling she didn’t wholly like. Maybe she had the wrong building, but no, she had the right address and the letter had said something about adopting a child. She would just have to tough it out and try to ignore the strange aura that emanated from the building. Sighing, the woman got out of her car and wandered up to the building and walked inside.

The inside looked far different than the outside. It resembled a typical lab; cold and heartless with little, if any, warmth to it. As Shadai looked around, her thoughts were disrupted by a cough by a female lab tech, who looked extremely irritated. Not only that, but she clutched a quite still young boy's hand.

The toddler looked absolutely terrified of the older woman, yet his eyes constantly wandered to the bracelet she had on her other arm, flinching and looking away every time she glared at him. His clothes were simple, just a brown vest, white shirt, and green pants. He occasionally tugged on the shirt or vest, as if they irritated him or perhaps it was his way of remaining calm. Either way, the toddler was mostly still, as if he was waiting for something or someone...

"You must be... Shadai Ashanti, correct?" she asked irritably, consulting her clipboard for a moment to confirm the other woman’s name. Shadai simply nodded, curious about whether she was expecting others to come and would truly have to ask. Upon confirming her name, the tech released the toddler’s hand and pushed him forward while handing Shadai a folder at the same time. “He’s yours.” And with that, she turned on heel and left without another word. Strange, not even a goodbye or explanation to anything...

Sighing, Shadai took the folder in one hand and looked down at the toddler. Blue-green eyes stared back with wonder and hope. “Hi,” he muttered, giving a soft wave.

“Hello,” Shadai replied, kneeling down to gently pet his soft, reddish-pink hair and to her absolute surprise, finding small and extremely soft peach feathers growing along with his hair on his scalp. The toddler giggled at her surprise, extending his previously tightly folded and hidden bat-like wings and further causing her surprise to grow.

“Amazing... Come on; lets get out of here,” she muttered, gently taking the toddler’s hand and leading him out to her car, wondering what the child was exactly if he had feathers growing with his hair and small wings growing from his back... She’d have to hire a tailor later and get his clothes fitted for there was no way she could buy clothes and tailor them herself to accommodate for his wings.

After helping the toddler into his seat and buckling him in, Shadai started the car and headed back for home where she suddenly realized that she had yet to learn the toddler’s name since arriving. “So, what’s your name?” she asked, glancing back at him from the rearview mirror. The toddler had his eyes glued to the window, admiring everything that flashed by with a happy little grin. He looked so adorable, what with his reddish freckles and sweet innocence that never seemed to leave his expression.

“Name? I don't know. Never got one. What your name?” the toddler asked, eyes never once leaving the window. Shadai giggled softly at his amazement, and yet was a bit sad if the techs never let him outside or gave him a name. No wonder he was so terrified, they must have just locked him up in a room or something. Her eyes wandered briefly to the folder she had yet to open, knowing they contained a few papers about him, but she had yet to actually look and see since getting them. Then there was the issue of his name...

“My name’s Shadai, and you can call me whatever you wish for I’m your new... erm, guardian,” Shadai answered, smiling as they left the city roads and onto the rural ones. It wasn’t that long of a drive outside of the city before they were going up the driveway and parking. In the doorway of a rather large, three story house was a scowling, white haired female.

“Who’s the kid?” she asked grumpily, holding the door open for the two. Upon seeing the slightly older and seemingly unfriendly adult, the toddler turned and hid behind Shadai’s legs and occasionally peeked out from behind them.

“The kid I adopted and told you I was getting an hour ago. Why are you so grumpy today? Oh, right, this is my friend and roommate here, Arytiss and Arytiss, this is... That's right, we have to name you,” Shadai introduced the two after seeing curiosity flood the others face.

“No name, eh? Well, you certainly don’t look human... What is he?” Arytiss asked bluntly as she scanned the child over, instantly noticing the feathers growing from his head and the wings on his back. The toddler shifted uncomfortably as the older adult looked him over; disliking the attention he was getting from her.

"Oh, right, you need a name. Hm... Tomias sounds like-"

"I was thinking Cody..." Shadai muttered, trying hard not to roll her eyes as Arytiss went ahead and started to name him.

"Fine. How about Cody Tomias? Simple and uses both our suggestions. Now, you haven't answered me. What is he if he's not... wholly human. Doesn't smell human either," Arytiss remarked, nose crinkling slightly. "Smells controversial and demonic if you ask me."

“Alright, fine. Cody Tomias it is. As for what he is he’s... Part angel and demon... I know patience is his angel side when I glanced at this earlier...” Shadai muttered, flipping open the folder and suddenly looking confused, “And he’s part greed... That doesn’t sound right... He doesn’t act greedy,” she added, frowning. He was so sweet, how could he be greedy? Arytiss just snorted.

“Well, why don’t you give me the car keys and I’ll let you show him around the house,” Arytiss replied, snickering when Shadai suddenly found that both her car keys and Cody were suddenly missing. “Cody...?”

“He snuck off with them a couple minutes ago while you were flipping through your folder. I believe he went upstairs,” Arytiss explained, laughing at Shadai’s utter confusion and worry about the sudden disappearance.

“Good luck getting those keys back if he truly is a child of the demon Greed and the angel of Patience, you’re going to need it,” Arytiss called as she wandered off upstairs, possibly to lock up her room so the toddler couldn’t get inside. Shadai just sighed, following her friend upstairs to try and retrieve her keys and the toddler before he could take something else of theirs.

ABC's and 12-Give that back!

Cody watched from behind the couch as his mother gathered up several books, a stack of paper, and these strange and super shiny plastic cards. Then, she gathered up some markers and other coloring supplies; even some pencils and pens. They all went into neat little piles or stacks on the kitchen table before her attention went to him, of all people.

“Cody? Cody, could you come here?” Shadai called, grinning happily. Cody frowned and ducked back behind the couch. No, he was going to stay and remain so until dinner after the injustice earlier when Ary had held him down and pried yet another valuable from his hands that had come from her room.

“Oh come on Cody, I’m not going to punish you and I sent Ary off to get some pizza for later. All I want to do is teach you how to read and write, ok?” she asked, wandering over to Cody’s hiding place.

“NO! Make me!” Cody snapped, glaring at the part of Shadai’s leg he could see from the space between the couch and the wall. Shadai sighed and sat down on the arm of the couch. God he could be stubborn some days. It took a good fifteen minutes of persuading to get the toddler out from behind the couch and over to the table where she then had to hide the pens so he couldn’t take them.

“Alright, let’s start with the alphabet,” Shadai started, grabbing a piece of paper and laying it out on the table. Slowly, she wrote out each letter and explained their name and sound they made. “Now you try.” Slowly, the toddler worked his way through writing each letter and saying their name. He even memorized the little song Shadai taught him for remembering the alphabet, even with him constantly taking the flashcards or pens and refusing to hand them back until she told him she’d stop teaching him.

“Good job Cody! I envy you, it took me almost a month to learn all this,” Shadai praised, giggling as the toddler grinned happily and pointed to the books. “They next?” he asked, tilting his head curiously. Shadai just nodded and handed him a book. “These use a special type of marker that you can wipe away if you make a mistake, but only on this special paper, ok?” The toddler merely nodded and opened the book she offered him.

Over the next hour they worked through the books and even managed to get through the numbers up to twenty. A feat she was shocked at mostly because most toddlers could get up to about ten at Cody’s age... and because of him constantly taking something off the table and hiding it in his pocket or sitting on it. Maybe she should enlist him in a school of sorts; perhaps that would drain some of his “stealing Arytiss’ things” energy...

By the time Arytiss had returned with the pizzas and other grocery items, Cody had gone through every book and was spelling out random words that Shadai told him. The woman couldn’t help but be surprised how rarely she had to help him with his spelling and letters, which was improving rather steadily.

“How you spell “peetza?” Cody asked, looking up from his paper. “P-I-Z-Z-A, and its “pee-za”, no “t” in it,” Arytiss spelled, having wandered over to see what he was doing. “Hey, squirt, want to learn another language? At the rate you’re going you’ll finish English before you hit the second grade,” she commented jokingly, even laughing a little at her joke. Shadai just rolled her eyes, setting the plates out and clearing away the books and flashcards Cody wasn’t using. At least she was being a little helpful... this time...

~Shadai's Journal~

Dear Diary/Journal,

Well, it's been a while, hasn't it? Well, I suppose I should fill you in since I last wrote. I picked up Cody, a darling little toddler, from the facility called Seven of Seven. It was so strange, they basically threw him at me. It was like they didn't care. I know, weird right? Well, as soon as we got home Cody soon became quite the handful when things randomly disappeared and we started to run into different kids from the same facility.

But enough of that, my main concern is how Cody seems to be getting better at stealing our stuff. Now that Arytiss has somehow found a way to keep him out of our rooms, it takes me ages to find my car keys and he always acts like he did nothing. I thought I was going crazy but no, I keep finding all the missing items hidden away throughout the house in little niches or in Cody's room. I'm worried that he'll try shoplifting next or something even worse... There has to be SOME way to break him of this habit and teach him that stealing is wrong. Oh who am I kidding. He's a child of the demon of Greed, there is no breaking him of something he was born with unless... Unless I can find a way to channel this stealing energy elsewhere.

Yes! That has to be the answer! Why didn't I see this before? Every time he meets up with another child from Seven of Seven, he's always calm and rarely does he attempt to take things. It's as if the very encounter with another child switches him from greedy to nice and patient. Well, guess I'll have to take him out more since no matter where I go with him, I run into another child from that facility.

That makes me wonder; how many kids are there from that same facility? So far I've met three, but Cody claims to have met five. Perhaps he met two while at that Church activity Ary sent him to a couple of weeks ago when I had to work. Cody mentioned he had met another child of greed there named 'Ludra. I feel sorry for whomever had adopted him if they had to go through the same things I am now.

Well, if I'm correct on keeping out and about helps his need to steal, then I will most definitely be a rather busy guardian and might not right for a while. Even now I'm having trouble finding time to do anything without having to constantly keep an eye on Cody. Speaking of which, there he goes down the hallway. Well, I'd better go, before he breaks something. I promise to write soon!

~Shadai

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)

~From a Greedy Toddler to a Patient Child~

Cody yawned and sat up, rubbing his eyes only to frown and look around. His bed felt smaller than the night before, and his clothes were tighter than usual. Standing up, the spawn gasped in surprise, giggling at how tall he was and how much his wings, and hair, had grown throughout the night.

To his utmost dismay, none of his clothes seemed to fit at all and those he could actually get on were extremely tight and rather stupid looking. So... now what was he supposed to do since, at the moment, he had nothing to wear. He couldn't just run around the house in his underwear; his mother would be absolutely appalled. And Ary would probably force him into something of hers. The very thought of that made the child shudder.

"Cody, time to-Oh my... Cody is... is that... is that you?" Shadai gasped upon opening the door and gazing upon what used to be her son as a toddler, gripping the door frame rather tightly to keep herself upright. Now, he had grown what looked like a foot in height, several inches in hair length, and a couple feet in his wingspan. Not something normal kids do, but he wasn't a normal kid, now, was he? Besides, the Facility had warned her about him suddenly growing...

Cody grinned and nodded, flexing his now larger wings. "Yeah, it's me. Clothes no fit though," he replied, scowling a bit at this and kicking a pile of his favorite clothes, now too small for his child-like body. A shame, really, that they couldn't have lasted longer.

"We... We can go shopping later. Until then, I'll have to find something that will fit you. I will not have you running about in your underwear. Here, put your old clothes in this basket so I can fold them up later and take them to a donation store later," Shadai told the hybrid, setting down a laundry basket and heading off to find something for the toddler to wear. What was she going to do now?
