Cody was practically dragging his guardian through the aisles, giggling and grabbing whatever caught his eye which was generally feathers and bright stacks of paper. Shadai had taken him to a craft store to find items to make a box to hold his quickly growing collection of feathers.
"Cody! Ach! We're only here to get supplies to make something to house all those feathers of yours, not buy the entire craft store!" Shadai exclaimed after being given yet another stack of items. "But mommy! I want! It so pwetty," Cody whined as the items were given back to him to be put away.
"Alright, fine. Choose a few things to decorate your box while I go find some items to make it," Shadai replied, giving in to the toddlers whining a bit before warning him not to take anything before moving to the very end of the aisle to look at the wood and glue. Cody, however, moved to the other end and stared at the rows of glitter, bags of feathers and buttons, and stacks of bright paper. There was so much to choose from, how could he possibly decide on a few items?

Espen wasn't a huge fan of arts and crafts, and yet here he was in a crafts store. Sure, he liked stuff that was useful, or art that had to do with him...and finger-painting was fun, but he didn't see what the big deal was about all of these fake flowers and wicker birds. Why not just get real ones and buy a birdhouse instead? Art was weird, that was for sure. Still, Espen figured that maybe art was just one of those things that he was too young to understand, and one of the few things that he accepted as such without a problem.
While he was curiously lost in trying to find something that he might like in this store, and Shane's back was to him, entranced in buying new things for the house and Erika especially, Espen barely noticed the boy that he bumped into while sharply turning the corner of the aisle. He was so surprised by the fact that there was somebody else his age here that he landed on on the floor and scuttled back a few paces before getting up to face him. It was like he had seen a ghost...what kind of sane kid was in a craft shop? Then he shook his head and realized that he was in one too, so maybe it wasn't so weird.

Cody started and looked over at the new kid, grinning as he saw the feathers and strange features. "Hello. What your name?" he asked, holding a bag of brightly colored feathers loosely in his hands. "M'Name is Cody. You here for stuff too?" he asked, looking back to the crafts before turning his full attention to the new spawn.
The toddler desperately wanted to touch the feathers on his wings and see what they felt like, and possibly take one for his collection. Although just leaning over and doing that seemed like a rather stupid idea, since the kid had some rather sharp looking claws. Cody tilted his head, waiting for the other to respond.

Espen looked at the kid and started to get a familiar sense of identity that he had noticed in other frequent encoutners with people who came from the facility. It was a bit of a je ne sais quoi, but for the first time he could tell that the boy who he had bumped into was a Spawn as well. Still, he was just a boy anyways, and a crazy one if he was actually getting 'stuff' from a craft shop. Espen cautiously crept closer to inspect the feathers in the bag, twisting his head at certain angles and sniffing it as well, then he recoiled in surprise and disgust.
"Ew! Mine're betta. You need to get betta ones if y'want real wings!" Espen suggested honestly after looking at Cody's strange bat things. No wonder he was buying feathers! Forgetting his manners at the sight of the useless bagged feathers and ugly bat-things, he suddenly realized that he had yet to introduce himself. "Sowwy, I'm Espen! Niceta meetcha Cody! I'm here witmy dad."

Cody scowled at the feathers comment. "I have better ones at home. These are decoration. And what you mean, real wings? I have wings and they just fine," he replied, setting the bag of feathers down to fully look over the other spawn. What made him believe his wings weren't real? He really wanted to hurt the other in some way all of a sudden, but he was willing to wait to see if the kid could fix what he said previously.
"I here with my mum. Nice t' meet you too, Espen," he replied carefully, wondering what DNA parents he had. They had to be new, since he'd never seen scales and claws like that before.

Espen could see that he had offended the boy, but didn't really know how.
"Ohhh! Decoration!" he said, finally realizing what the strange bat things overtop of Cody's wings were for: wing decorations, and he had more at home! For a split second, Espen thought about what he'd look like with weird skin things over his feathers, he didn't like it.
"What'cha doin' witthose coloured feathers then?" Espen said curiously, wondering what kind of function they could serve.

Cody stared at the boy for a long minute, uncomprehending then he finally realized what the boy had thought he said. "Ooh... No, feathers decoration for box for real feathers I got from friends. Do not like them dusty. Why my wings not real? They are real 'nough," he replied, trying to explain things to the boy. Almost to prove a point, he flapped his wings a couple times before tucking them neatly behind his back.
"Why you here?" he asked, hoping to change the subject a bit.

After watching Cody's wings in action, Espen had to agree with him, they might not be proper wings, and a little ugly, but they were indeed real enough and he could live with that.
"Looken fer outside things wit my daddy," Espen answered "Butchou puttin' feathers inna box?"
Espen pondered this for a second and then remembered something he had seen in a box in the basement at his house.
"I gots someting bettah denna box! Follow me!" and with that, Espen was off whipping down aisles until he got to a aisle full of large glass frames.

Cody nodded, figuring it would be the safest place for them. Upon Espen's comment on something better, the toddler couldn't help become extremely curios and follow the other, wondering just what he meant by it.
Then, he saw the glass frames and instantly his eyes went wide. "Ooh... Much better than box. Much, much better. How you find this?" he asked, grinning excitedly. Now he could show off his precious feathers instead of hiding them away in a dark box!

Espen couldn't help grinning from ear to ear, knowing that his new friend liked his idea just as much as he did. Being able to help, and knowing that his idea was better than a box, was the greatest feeling in the world. Now he had to make sure that Cody had the perfect frame for his collection.
"Daddy been shopping fo too long" Espen giggled as he walked down the aisle "Daddy uses dem alot fo all kindsa stuff! Pwetty rocks, bown papa, an fowers too! Dere mus be ten a-my haus!"
Suddenly Espen stopped and looked up at a frame that had small, white clay wings at each corner and a a small golden boarder around it. He didn't say anything this time, and just stared, hoping Cody would like it too. If he didn't, that was okay though, at least he was getting a frame.

Cody nodded, looking over each frame as he went. Upon spying the one Espen was looking at rather pointedly, his intent was clear. "Ooh... that one really pwetty," he muttered, admiring it for a moment. It was the perfect frame for his precious feathers and even had little wings in the corners. He could tell the golden border wasn't really, but it was good enough for him.
"Is perfect! Can't believe you found it," the toddler added with a grin. Now... how to get it down...

He knew it wouldn't work, but Espen wanted to try and see if he could show off his flying skills early. He jumped into the air and flapped his wings as hard as he could, but failed miserably as gravity pulled him back to the ground as though there was no resistance at all.
"Canna fly o jump." Espen deduced while pacing. There wasn't a ladder or a step-stool around that he could see, so he decided to emulate something he had seen in a picture book, he just hoped he was strong enough for it.
Bending over on all fours, Espen made himself look as much like a step-stool as he could and braced all of his muscles.
"Climb on me," Espen volunteered "but be cahful! Iffya canna reach, ge down quick."

Cody nodded, watching Espen position himself for Cody to use him like a step to get said frame. Taking a deep breath, the toddler carefully stood on the Espen's back, avoiding his wings and stretched his hand out, reaching... reaching... Damn, missed by a couple inches.
"Watch out! Move out of way when I grab it," Cody warned, then jumped a bit while flapping his wings and closed the gap. Grabbing the frame and unhooking it in the briefest of moments before falling back to the ground. As he landed, the spawn carefully inspected the frame, grinning happily at his find. "Thank you!" he said, giggling excitedly. Now he could show off his feathers!

Espen dodged swiftly and marveled at Cody's prowess with his wings for the moment that he used them. Maybe they were better than he gave them credit for because when he jumped, he clearly got a bit of serious hang time while reaching for the frame. Still, Espen wasn't going to outright admit that he was wrong.
Instead, he ran over to inspect the full frame himself and marveled at the find.
"Wow," Espen admitted "tha waza good, umm...jump."
Plucking a feather from his wings, he held it up to the frame for a moment before realizing that there was something wrong. If he gave his feather to Cody, nobody would know who's feather it was, and he wanted to make sure that people knew that it was his feather that looked so good in the frame. Something needed to be done about that before he even considered handing his over.
"Ya neeta know dat this feather's mine if it goes in der," Espen voiced his concern while sticking his feather in his pocket. He was out of ideas for this one though, but he knew that he'd seen some way to do what he wanted, he just forgot exactly what they looked like.

Cody grinned at the compliment, still looking over the frame with an experienced eye. It didn't have any scratches of any kind, nor pieces missing from it. The paint was in good condition as well, another plus. All in all, it was an amazing find and an excellent frame.
Yet, as Espen plucked the feather from his wing, Cody's eyes instantly left the frame and stared at it. "Always know which friend feathers from which friend. Not have any white friend feathers yet," he said and watched as the feather was placed into Espen's pocket.
"Can get paper an write name on it an tape below it," he added, thinking he might do that anyways. Frowning for a moment, the toddler tried to remember where he had seen paper at... Oh, the place he had been earlier when Espen ran into him had some pretty and colorful paper, perhaps he could use that?
