Kiyelt rolled onto his back, hands folded neatly over his belly, he gazed up at the stars. He had been wrong too think that he could live alone in the desert forever and that that would be enough. To be fair he was not tired of the view, only of being alone. There was no permanant substitute for person to person interaction, no matter how many familiars you had around.
He sighed and prepared to go back to town. He needed supplies, especially if he decided to travel as far as he was thinking of, but for now he would simply concentrate on this trip.
He was low on salt and spices, he would need to fill the saddle bags for all his beasties, no pet left behind.
It wasn't hoarding if it was your profession after all. It would be nice to get out of the desert for a while, he could have a real bath! He would need water, bread, cheese, a few trade goods that he knew would sell well outside of Oba.
His true love whoever she was wouldn't find him out here evidentally.
He wanted to share his life with someone to have children together, to grow old together, who knew where he would find her? This town, the next, that kahikina place, though he doubted that. He was looking for that real connection of spirit it was time to leave the past in the past.
He would move only forward from tonight forth. A new sense of purpose flooded him. He felt like a great weight had again been lifted from his broad shoulders. It was time to be relevant, to mean something again. Well, he was actually excited about dating again, what new and exotic beauties would he find out there?
There was only one way to find out.

Kiyelt was dealing qith a very prosperous business in Matori, who had known that there was such a need for beast tamers here. Everybody wanted a pet or six here, there was also a high demand in Oba for Matorian creatures. Which meant that once he had made a name for himself, everyone started telling their friends, which was the best kind of advertising you could get. It certainly worked better than tacking flyers up everywhere.
He looked at his notepad o which his field visits for the day were listed neatly in columns. Some interesting things on the docket, and a certain somewhere he had always wanted to visit. It was going to be a very long day, hopefully Nin would take pity in him and bring takeout.
She was finally striking off on her own and now he needed another apprentice or two, considering the work load, it was so hard to find good help these days. He was just too good of a teacher, maybe if he hired an assistant instead of an apprentice. Maybe that would last longer, he shrugged. He could work alone for a while, he had the scars to prove it. But he really did enjoy company.
A runner raced up to him and handed him a letter.
"Your Mother is gravely ill, please come home."
Just like that all of his plans changed. He inclosed the letter in a fist, profusely thanked the runner. He left a note for Nin and then headed to the highlands of Zena with all due haste, excess pets having a babysitter while he was gone. Village kids were always so helpful. Not like city kids who tended to demand outrageous sums of money out right. He was sorry he could not say goodbye to Nin but he had sent her snaptrotter, that would make her happy.
Some things were worth dropping everything for. He may not have visited them much in the past few years but he had kept up with his letter writing. He alwaya made sure to keep some kind of tab on them.
His heart was so filled with anxiety that his throat felt tight. His mother meant the world to him. He loved her with everything he had. Hi father was probably a wreck but trying to hold it in. His mother was a special woman and she had hos dad wrapped around her finger. Kiyelt needed to be home. He was the backbone, the only son, he was meant to be there for them, his parents were not that old yet, they had bore him quite early in their lives so she should not be that sick yet.
He had far too much time to think as the janarim ate up the miles between them and Zena in long graceful strides. He traveled well into the night before making himself a lonely camp on the outskirts of Matori land. A small fire blazed gleefully with light, he kept breaking up twigs to feed it with, like treats, he was pleading with the god of heat to protect and keep his mother safe and warm.
The dawn light found him marching onward. As the land changed slowly, Kiyelt was even more determined to make it home. It consumed him but he was careful not to push his partner too hard.
He entered Sauti and remembered why he had never liked the place, it was rocky, windy and monotonous, few trees and a lot of dust speckled the horizon on all sides. At least it meant he was closer. As they traveled further and further the air cooled and it started to feel more like home.
Evebtually he reached Zena and breathed a relieved sigh when his village came into view.
"Its steak for dinner tonight for you my friend, you have definitely earned it."
He walked paths so familiar to him it made his heart hurt to think of how long he had been away. His home came into view and he paid no mind to the blatant stares that he was getting from people, he looked nothing like he had when he had left Zena.
Something did catch his attention. There were two younglings outside his parents house, were they babysitting perhaps? As he approached the boy squealed "Mama!" and ran inside.
Don't mind him mister, he don't like strangers," the little girl said.
"Well I'll be damned," Kiyelt's father, Ilyet stood in the doorway. "Kids this is your eldest brother Kiyelt."
The little girl immediately latched onto his leg. "Big brother! We thought you were never coming home!" Words could not describe the look of shock that crossed Kiyelt's face. he had siblings?! His mouth opened but no sound came out.
His father snorted as he came out to hug his son. "well you were gone for a rather long time son. You look good, handsome like your Mother's Father."
"You couldn't have told me that she was pregnant?"
"Its not exactly something you put in a letter, you could have visited more often."
"Good point."
"the little girl is Shaylaia and the boy is Viar." his father indicated one child and then the other.
"A pleasure to meet you." he was still in shock."
"Come in, come in your Mother is waiting."
Kiyelt stepped over the threshold of his old home.dragging his newly discovered little sister along with him. It had changed only a little bit since he had left, thick colorful rugs representing the colors of every tendaji race padded the floor while his Mother's home made tapestries of local wildlife lined the walls. It felt like stepping back in a dream.
The nostalgia froze in his heart when he saw his mother under layers of blankets on the couch. he rushed to her side as she lurched, her eyes filling wtih happy tears when she saw him. "No don't get up." His voice was raw with emotion as his arms came around her. She felt so small and fragile. Then again he had put on quite a bit of muscle since he had last seen her. "Are you okay? What did the healer say?"
"To drink lots of fluids, I keep trying to tell your father that its nothing but a bad flu, but he worries that it is worse. I think only because I never get sick."
"A flu?" They could get rampant in Zena due to the climate.due to the climate. "Are you sure Mom? You look tired."
"Yes son thats what throwing up at dawn does to you."
"Fair point Mom."
Either it was true and his Father was over reacting or she was covering up how bad it actually was to protect him.
"Shaylaia, go play with your brother, you will have plenty of time to play with Kiyelt later, Mommy and he need to talk okay?"
"Okay Mommy." The little girl peeled herself away from her new(old) brother and went racing off.
"She's cute."
"Very" His Mother smiled evily, "She has your father's heart cupped in her little hands, I taught her well."
"I see that." he chuckled.
"As for you," She smacked his arm weakly, "Why did you not come home earlier, I have been waiting to tell you about the children for forever."
"Well I spent a lot of time looking after wild janarim in Oba, they had a poaching problem there."
"No girlfriend yet?" she pried petulantly.
"No Mother but I have been trying." He had but, not recently. There was only so much failed romance that one could take. Maybe he would have better luck in Matori though.
"Tsk tsk Kiyelt." She held his face between her hands. "I don't know how someone hasn't snatched you up yet, look at you, you're even more handsome than your Father, perhaps one of the local girls would suit, do you want me to organize a party?"
"Mom, your sick, you don't have the energy for matchmaking."
His mother smirked, "What is a flu to a Mom who wants grandchildren?"
he smiled, his mother was truly a force to be reckoned with. This confirmed to him that it was only the flu and his father was freaking out over nothing.
"Kiyelt please reassure your Father. He worried so."

Class Quest
It felt so good to be back in Matori, Dem was here so it was even better, he had lacked old friends in the desert. He woke that morning with a special excitement to compliment the still, cool air. it was time to visit the Yaotl artificial breeding center. He remembered the handsome beach who helped turn the tide in the Oban war, he all but vibrated with glee. It was harder to get excited about things when one was more experienced, which was why it was more important to continue to find thatngs that were exciting least one's life becom stagnant and boring. He arrived at the breeding center where the head tamer, a woman named Sierdra greeted him. they had put out a call for experienced Beast Tamers to come help solve and issue with their most promising breeing male. Sierdra brought him to what looked like a break room, where he was invited to break his fast while they waited upon the others.
The pair swapped taming stories and Kiyelt was in an excellent mood by the time the other Beast Tamers arrived on the scene. There were only three who ad answered the call; himself in addition to a husband and wife team who were full blood water. Overall the group meshed well and Sierdra explained the root of the problem to them.
"Our top prospect for breeding male is aggressive and dangerous to handle, he seemed less interested in breeding an more interested in attacking his keepers in new and interesting ways."
Sierdra paused and took a deep breath. "We don't know what else to do, our other males are too young and the females don't take them seriously." Kiyelt nodded and had a huddle with the other beast tamers. When they were done, he said "We have a few ideas to try, could we see the Yaotl in question?" "Yes, yes of course, right this way everyone." She led them to a large enclosure where the huge male Yaotl was pacing in agitation along the feneline. "Is this the only exercise he gets?" "Yes, we try to ensure that they have a big enclosure, but he insists on using only this small part of it. Their other enclosure is being worked on tis bigger but there was damage due to a storm at one point." "I see, was he a war beast at one point?" "Well yes, he was, top of the core too until his rider was kills, no one has been keen on taking him on, so he was brought here for retirement.." "Hmm, may I borrow his old riders outfit and a saddle? "You want to ride him? Are you mad?" "A little but he is used to having a job, what is his name?" "Alvarus is his name." "Well lets see if he will take a rider, he might be bored and with no other outlet for his energy he takes it out on the keepers. "et these two see to the females." He waved at the smiling husband and wife pair. He had a feeling they wanted to see the Yaotl buck him off. Or eat him." "Okay iceling, it id your hide after all." They got the Yaotl saddled fine, which surprised Sierdra. Kiyelt emerged dressed in the Yaotl's old riders equipmnt. he was hoping the scent was still there. He was a tad nercous, who wouldn't be, the Yaotl was huge... and toothy. He presented himself to the beast, fulfilling a dream he had had since the war. The beast growled and Kiyelt's sternum rattled. That was disconcerting yet awesome. The Yaotl snuffled around his clothes, scenting his old rider, he bowed and Kiyelt was able to climb aboard. He was happy his legs were not shaking. This was going to be the most pivotal moment in his career. "You just want to have some work don't you boy?" he patted the smooth but tough hide. "not all of us are ready for retirement early, though with al of those pretty ladies, I would have gotten a head start on building a family but to each their own. Sierdra had given him the basics of commands for the yaotl, and he used them now to nudge the beast to a secure place but with much more spae than the breedng paddock. "Just another patrol old son." Kiyelt put the animal through his paces until a sheen of sweat coated htem both. He hhas has no issue. When he returned the females had been removed to their own paddock. Kiyelt gave Alvarus back. "I think yo will find that as long as the rider wears these clothes until a bond is formed, you will not have much trouble. He is a working animal and is not ready to reture yet. More excersize and the odd mission and he will be right as rain. Bit nerve wracking at the beginning. I had to push my own boundaries but I am glad it all worked out." Lucos and Flava recommended that the females be given a break for a bit so we took them out. he was just disturbing them anyway. We will take your advice under advisement and see if they work long term. Thank you for coming, our cash is there on the table. You may shower before going him if you wish. You uh look and smell like you need it." She chuckled at him, laughter dancing in her eyes. He waved her off, "It was worth it, thank you for letting me take that chance, I am going straight back to my janarim. They are much less terrifying."
