Nin post 1

Ninaeleth was up early, she knew it was her day off but the Mid season harvest festival had just started and Kiyelt had been interested in her culture before so she thought he might really enjoy the harvest festivities. After all there was much joy and food all throughout.

She knocked on the door and felt a bit silly but for a mature adult he was quite tolerant and sincere, that was something she noticed he liked to be silly and to be calm and relaxed more often than anything else.

She heard his footsteps approach and couldn't help but hold her breath.

He had been so looking forward to sleeping in today. He had gone and checked the animals very early, spending about an hour watching them paddle around their pool.

Now there was someone at the door. He yawned and opened it to find his apprentice. "Well hello Nin can I get you a tea or coffee?" He did hope everything was aright. He still looked a little sleep ruffled and his voice was a bit gravely. He was a man who needed his beauty sleep.

"Well coffee would be good, but I wanted to ask if you would like to participate in the mid season harvest festival. It is quite big here. We honor the gods and eat lots of food. Its a celebration of gratefulness and joy. Its one of my favorite festivals.

Matori had a lot of festivals but she liked the seasonal ones so much she felt like they really meant something because they were tied to the land.

She walked in and sat at his table. He looked cute all ruffled like this. Her hair knotted like that too.

"You look a little disreputable, wake up on the wrong side of the bed?"

"I was up late last night making sure your snaptrotter didn't try to get out have some sympathy eh?" he smiled. She was at least comfortable enough to tease him.

He set some hot coffee down for her and brought out the cream. "Mid harvest festival? I think I participated in some in Oba but I believe there will be more to harvest here since the weather is better. I do like a good harvest festival. Sure. But have some pity on me, I'm tired. So don't blaze through it all, I would like to enjoy it slowly. With much food."

"I have no doubt that you a diligent babysitter, judging from those bags under your eyes." Now that she was used to him she didn't pull her quipy punches. She sipped the coffee, it was crisp and rich like he was. Rich in personality anyway.

Though he had some money built up over a booming Oban training business.

"You sound old Kiyelt, yet that gray in your hair is not from old age."

He snorted at her. "You sound like an old lady yourself Nin, yet you are still a prentice, how did someone so auld end up in a body so small?" He grinned knowing that would get her goat.

"Okay I'm ready now, off we go..by way of food, I'm already hungry for the harvest treats we are in for today. Particularly berry pies, yum." He was a hungry guy and once in a while he would eat sugar.

He could taste the filling already.

Nin marched them right to the festival area, some places had tables upon tables of harvested vegetables to be judged, the food was over in one area and the smells coming from there were amazing. She didn't know about Kiyelt but she was hungry!

"Up for some much and walk?" she asked before lining up in her favorite meat sandwhich stall. They slow roasted it and topped it with a sauce made from a root vegetable, it was hot but she bet that it set your immune system up for a month. So good was this food that she and her sister often convinced their father to bring it home after he was done work. It was a sacred sandwhich.

"Hmm, that sounds delightful." He went and stood in a salad line, if they were going to be walking he didn't want to eat too much. It wasn't very becoming of a man who looked like himself to get a cramp in public.

"I'll share mine if you share yours?" She was a local she would know the best food! That was the perk about knowing the people who lived there, you got a certain amount of information from those that called the place home that may take you years to discover themselves. He had learned to get as much good information as quickly as possible about an area, funny how many misteps you avoided by doing that.

"Sure, I always get this sandwhich." She was definitely getting two, he wasn't going to steal this sandwhich on her, he was too buff to eat that little. He was smart though, trying to get a sample of her food.

She was craning her neck around the people, "Oh! Look at the pumpkins! I love gardening, I wonder if any of my entries won anything? I think the judging is already done."

She and her sister tended the family garden and as Nin was learning more about herbs she had started to gather more and more vegetables too. This was her first year entering anything though so she was really excited.

He grinned when she handed him his own sandwhich, "I got you your own salad too. Since we do really physical work its only fair we get to eat our fill." Wrangling snaptrotters wasn't exactly easy.

He laughed at the grin she got on her face. This one liked good food, he could tell.

They padded their way over to the pumpkins. She had won first prize for a dark little squash who had a yellow spotted one in its group. He was delighted to see how happy a simple contest like this made her. She had her priorities in the right place at such a young age.

She had won, she had won! "As a treat I'm going to get us two pies, one for me one for you so pick a flavour when we get over there." Nothing beat harvest festival pies, the bounty of the earth was amazing.

After they finished their meal, Nin walked him through a prayer to the relevant gods in Matori, making sure to think good things to their friends so that their crops and food stores may be protected from mishap and that they all have happy productive gardens.

This type of prayer always brightened her heart.

"Then we bring a little floaty to the beach and set it off on a journey. Each floaty has a coconut seed so that where it lands it may grow food. In this was we spread the love on the waves.

"Well, that has to be one of the coolest traditions I have ever heard of." How sweet. And handy if one were to ever be stuck on an island. He felt like he had found a new home. Any place with beliefs like that well, he would stay for a while. Matori was a good place for lost souls.

He was so very lost. But well things were looking up. He had friends and a new place to live. Everything else would fall into line eventually.

"Oh, look at those flowers over there, I have only ever seen those in the middle of the desert however did they grow them here?" He was fascinated at the whole show. How each person celebrated was as unique and beautiful as all the different varieties of flower on display. The air smelled great too.

"This is a great festival. Much the better because its not freaking hot outside." Matori was much more breazy and it felt good on his whethered skin.

They had explored every exhibit and eaten everything and were quite happily tired by the time the sun was sinking in the sky.

"Well thank you Kiyelt that was a much better day than I thought. You can keep my other squash, it didn't win for biggest, but it will feed you for a day or two at least. Here are your pies as well."

She loaded him with food. "Best part about this festival is the food, but I enjoy it overall too." It celebrated the simple but vital parts of life, something she though people usually lost in the day to day life.

Kiyelt made sure that she got home safely that night before he trekked home to his blessed bed. The snaptrotters were doing good, He had a slice of pie and then he went to bed. He dreamed about very large squash and bemused he thought that was a good sign.

The pie still tasted good the next morning too. He would have to see if he could get more of them, they were worth celebrating.

He idly wondered how many gods Matori had. He thought he had known once but had forgotten in the swing of things.

The next day he stayed close to home thoroughly tired but content.
