The thin mist surrounding Miasma Village grew deeper as the sky darkened. A storm had settled in above Miasma Village, yet no rain had fallen yet. A mournful, cold wind howled as it snaked through the surrounding rocky spires.
A villager in a bright red cloak stood out from the rest, arms crossed as they glared at the sky. "This isn't natural. Look." The figure pointed skyward. "Do you see how the wind shifts the sky in several different directions? It's as if the storm was herded here."
The figure stopped, grimacing as the wind picked up with enough force to blow her cloak back. She was recognizable: after all, she had been in the news not too long ago. Amityville students would recognize their gym teacher in an instant.
Professor Red growled, snatching at her cloak and scowling. "Of course this would happen today," she growled. "Remi, remind me. As soon as I find whoever's responsible, I'm going to punch them in the face."
The OOC
Who is this? Professor Red is a notorious figure affiliated with Amityville Academy. She has been in the news and on gossip shows, and featured in both a positive and negative light. The last story she was in ran a few months ago, and was a sensationalized topic of gossip. As a result, she has kept a low profile.
Boogeyman? Fancy word for "police." In Halloween, the Boogeymen are a type of law enforcement. Or mercenary, depending on who you ask. Boogeymen are also experts in combat.
What can I do here? Professor Red is a well-known Boogeyman and Amityville teacher. Perhaps she has some answers, or knows a little bit about what's going on.

Successfully rolling 20-29 results in this:
It began to rain.
It didn't start off with a gentle pitter-patter of scattered raindrops. One moment the dark sky was churning, the next moment the area became drenched in a sudden downpour. No thunder boomed overhead; the only sound aside from the hissing rain was the soft whisper of the wind.
A whisper which grew into a howling shriek as the fog grew thicker, and it arrived.
Of course it would be a dragon. In stories it was always a dragon of some sort, wasn't it? This particular dragon is large and gray like the fog surrounding Misama Village. The rain doesn't seem to fall on it. Rather it falls in an area around it, as if it warded off the rain through the sheer force of its will.
The dragon throws back its head and unleashes a roar loud enough to stop the rain for one, two, heartbeats. The roar fades, and the rain resumes with a greater vengeance. You will not be able to complete this quest while this encounter is active.

Vaudrey was, sadly, still attempting to act as though he knew what he was doing, when it was rather painfully obvious that he most certainly did not. And since he had yet to actually arrive at Amityville, which had been his original destination, he had little knowledge of who the red cloaked figure was.
But he still sidled up to her, wings and tail sweeping behind him majestically (or not), and tried not to look like he was five seconds away from cowering in a corner.
"Ah, excuse me!" Vaudrey called out, a smile on his face. "Could you perhaps tell me what you mean by this? The storm is not natural, you say?"

The professor jumped as Vaudrey sidled up to her. She quickly looked up and down him, the scowl disappearing when she didn't see a skull pin on him. "Yes. The weather report indicated that today should only be somewhat cloudy. Not... that." Red pointed a talon towards the sky, shaking her head.
"There are different kinds of weather magic. Depending on the intensity, different types of weather can be summoned to varying degrees. For a storm of this size, there should be a swirling epicenter like a hurricane. Do you see the clouds? They're moving too much to be natural. It's as if they're being contained, and forced to stay here above the village."

The kitsune in question turned a curious glace upward, frowning at the sky in question as his mentor directed his attention towards it. It did seem to be acting more odd than usual, but did it mean anything in particular? Red had asked him to come along as part of his training, working on another case, when this sudden change in atmosphere started.
He bit back a laugh as Red struggled with her cloak, knowing she would likely turn that wrath easily on him. He rather didn't feel like eating dirt right then. "Have you seen something like this before?" Both a serious question amd a hopeful direction change so she wouldnt notice his amusement.
Someone else had joined the conversation, he made a point to tip a invisible hat at the newcomer.

While going about her routine of finding what she could in the form of work, in order to gain more info and possibly trust with the villagers, Verusha gave pause when noticing the sudden change in scenery.
Hm... that storm sure did creep up all of a sudden, and out of nowhere. How odd. Normally Cannon would have noticed such an abrupt shift in the air, but even the fire hound was surprised, head tilted up and nose twitching madly. While she stared up, the ghoul also overheard some chatter nearby, in regards to said storm. Peeking over from the corner of her eye, she listened a bit more intently to gather what she could in the snippits of conversation. Turning fully to face the individual providing information, a brow lifted curiously. Well then... finally sounded like someone knew what was going on, and was wiling to spill the beans. Awesome.
Casually wandering over, hands stuffing comfortably back into her shorts pockets, she stopped just a few paces away from the boogeyman, waiting patiently for them to finish informing another.
Once there was a stop in the explanation, the reaper voiced her own question. Why not?
"Say. Think we should tell the villagers, and get some cover for this thing, then?" if this was going to be a nasty storm, it probably wasn't the smartest idea to be out in the open, waiting for it to unleash its wrath.

He followed her gaze towards the skies and squinted. Vaudrey gave a nod.
"Yes, yes, I see!" he said thoughtfully, even though he totally didn't. "I see the clouds - so they're moving unnaturally, that's quite a big feat for someone, isn't it? To, erm, manipulate the weather in such an...extravagant fashion?"
He tried to sound impressive (and probably failed). Vaudrey's eyes flickered towards the other boil, and he beamed brightly at him because senpai had noticed him.

It had been some time since he had seen the gym teacher around. Shun eyed her briefly prior to overhearing her talking about some sort of unnatural storm. With a tilt of his head, he turned his gaze to the clouds. That wasn't something he was an expert on in the least. A few others were here as well, one he recognized as Remi. The others must have been newer students of sorts. Maybe.

Storms weren't a new thing for the peryton. Storms often had passed over or nearby her home in the mountains. But this didn't seem like the ones back home... It was darker... And didn't have the immediate weather conditions to follow it as most storms did.
She noticed a flicker of red out of her peripheral vision. Someone not a villager? Oh! Aureole had seen her somewhere... The news, perhaps?
Whatever the media she had seen the teacher in, she hurried over to the small forming group, her hands shoved into her sleeves to keep the chill from climbing up her arms. She closed her eyes a moment as a whip of wind came at her before approaching the group.
"Hey, do you think such a village will be able to hold up to this?" Aureole looked at the teacher before looking around at the others that had gathered.
Cause, in the peryton's opinion, these old houses and such probably would blow over with the slightest touch. But she had grown up in stone structures so it was a bit of a biased thought.

Then there was Kalden, who had up until a few minutes ago, been traipsing about the village in a vain attempt to get any of the inhabitants to converse with him concerning the nature of the local oddities, but as it seemed that not even the lure of invisible fish would get the villagers to take hold of the conversational bait, the lion boil had moved onwards in an attempt to find more interesting fare.
Which was why his bright eyes gleamed with thrilled anticipation when he noticed that a group of creeple had started to cluster around a red-cloaked figure. And what with the wind kicking up, a storm clearly about to crash down upon them, Kal could feel every inch of his 6’3” frame singing with the promise of the adventure that he’d desired since they’d flipped over the snake-bus. Oh hoy! Look and here was Vaudrey as well! The sphinx looked well enough, though perhaps a touch nervous and wriggly…well in a good way, maybe. It was really hard to tell with Vaudrey at times.
Sauntering up to the assorted youth and elders, a clawed hand shot upwards as though to ask a question in a well-assembled classroom, though he didn’t at all wait for his turn to be called. “Yo! Red!” This was merely happenstance, that he actually called her by her designated moniker, as he was referring to the bright crimson of her cloak, one that set her well-apart from all the morose denizens of this odd township. “You think this crazy, cooked-up storm thing is going to make the weird guys weirder? This whole town’s kooky.” It was a rather loudly voiced complaint, as they were not catering to the thrills and chills that he was expecting from such an adventure.
Kal was young and inexperienced enough to possess delusional thoughts of grandeur.
And while he was here…
…he cheerfully elbowed his fellow adventurer, the beleaguered sphinx, as though they were old chums. “Oh hey there, Vaud, what’s cookin’? Other than the weather….funny color we’re having, ain’t it?” Shielding his eyes, the breeze whipping silvery strands of hair around him in an almost blinding fashion, the lion peered upwards at the billowing storm clouds. Oh man. “Glad I’m not trying to take one of those rickety, make-shift balloons up in this mess, am I right?” Of course he was right. Though, if death hadn’t occurred, it might be fun to bounce around in the maelstrom…you know, for about thirty seconds.

Lyle didn't watch skelevision. He didn't read the paper or go online for anything more than to check the weather. He had never been to an Amityville gym class, but he recognized an authority figure when he saw one. And he liked her cloak. So cheery, unlike the rest of the downers around here.
He didn't have any questions, and anyway, he thought the others gathered here had asked some lovely ones already. The ghost floated and waited, running lines in his head from plays he could only partially remember.

Leo stared in awe, not at the storm gathering above them, but at the real life boogeyman in front of her. Oh wow, this was awesome! Beyond awesome! A brilliant smile formed on her face, perhaps a bit out of place in the seriousness of the situation but this was like suddenly coming face to face with one's idol; Hel had told her the best person to talk to about her dream of becoming a boogeyman was Red and here she was.
But this, Leo reckoned, was probably not the time to be asking career-related questions. No, she'd save that for later; hopefully she might get a chance again at some point, but for now, she'd observe a real boogeyman in action and try to learn what she could.
Recognizing Vaudrey in the crowd, she waved at her fellow sand whale-slayer with a grin. It was good to see familiar (and reliable) faces here, if the storm really was manufactured and trouble was heading their way.

Falair was getting quite tired of this whole cold and foggy business. And now, NOW there was what looked to be a very bad storm rolling in.
The Horsewoman sighed, reaching into one of her many pouches and pulled out a large red and gold patterned piece of cloth. Wrapping it around her shoulders. Perhaps she would go hide in the volcanic mountain again.
Lingering on the edge of the group, she eyeballed Red. More curiosity than weary. She did not know who this person was or what they were. And honestly she had no interest in weither or not this red cloaked person was important or not.All she really wanted to know is when and if this storm would pass. It it were like the fog and stuck around she might have to stick to hunkering down inside one of the villages buildings for a while.
The wind picked up and nearly blew her hat off of her head. Falair quickly snatched it back, pulling it down tight to keep it from flying off. "Perhaps we should take shelter...." It was a comment to no one, the Horsewoman was merely thinking out loud. If it got worse than just this she would indeed scurry inside.

Red glanced at the sky uncertainly. "I've seen something similar. There's... something --" she broke off, shaking her head as more non-cloaked figures approached. The boogeyman said nothing as she gave Remi a look. She made a series of gestures, waiting for his nod of understanding before continuing.

Red slowly blinked, looking from the storm towards the surrounding buildings. "That the storm is unnatural? I have no proof, save for what I know and what I've experienced. Otherwise, there are plenty of shops and cafes in town to take shelter in. I fear many of you would be too young for the bars here."
The boogeyman immediately regretted what she said. The last thing she wanted was to see were students in her local hangouts...

Not moments later they're all over the place, trampling your garden, and asking you inane questions with little to no regard for your personal space. How do you think they'd react?"

"Yes ma'm!" She nodded determinedly in response to Red's instructions; "I'll do my very best!" They would both be easy enough to find if she found anything of note; in Leo's mind, both of them were the epitome of coolness. Anyone that cool would be easy to spot!
Thinking about it though, the only really suspicious thing she'd encountered was the villagers and their tasks - which, from the sound of her replies, the boogeyman didn't seem to think were that out of the ordinary.
She did suppose having a bus full of strangers dumped on you without your say might make creeple a bit grumpy, when she thought about it. It wasn't like the villagers had asked for them to come poking around. Were the multitude of tasks really just a way to get the newcomers out of their hair? She hadn't considered this angle at all; suddenly Leo felt a bit foolish - like a scareling she'd only thought about her perspective on the situation and neglected to consider that things might look different from someone else's.
She could learn from this, though. Hopefully. It'd be something to put in her notepad of words to live by - which she'd left back in her dorm. Probably for the best with how volatile some of these tasks from the villagers' were; she'd be crushed if anything happened to that notepad. It was a gift from her mentor and the Mare treasured it dearly, though her entries had been scarce while she'd been away from school. There had been a few though, mainly pertaining to the importance of family (and the importance of not letting your half-batty uncle hold speeches at memorial services; she'd never be able to look at floresce the same ever again).
Back on point, she really wasn't sure how much investigating she could do though. The villagers weren't as hostile as they'd been in the beginning, but they definitely weren't friendly by any means. Just... less scowly.
Maybe they had more tasks, though; those she'd done so far had taken her to nearby mountains and glaciers, giving her, she thought, a somewhat good idea of the local landscape. Suspicious things didn't neccessarily have to be in the village after all, and maybe this knowledge of the area would come in handy. Or maybe any suspiciousness was concentrated in the village and all the trips to surrounding areas had been a ruse to keep them from discovering that.
Ahhh, too complicated. Massaging her temples a moment before letting go and giving her head a good shake to reset her thoughts, she considered that maybe over-thinking things weren't going to help in this instance. Leo didn't consider herself stupid, but she knew that elaborate theories were not her forte; digging around and doing some hard work on the other hand, that she could do. She'd see if there were more tasks to be done and keep her eyes and ears open as she went; anything that seemed wrong or out of the ordinary - for a given value of ordinary - would be reported.
Determined, fully set on her course, she went to find more tasks.

As she watched the students, Red nudged her protege. "And this," she said quietly, "Is why I highly recommend you consider making your boogeyman cloak out of a darker color. The more vibrant colors tend to attract attention, which may make investigations more difficult."
