..............Hobbies: .....................Horseback Riding - Starting in her pre-teens, Harper has had lessons in the caring and riding sports of horses and was interested in them long before then. To take some of the financial burden of lessons from her parents, she has been working at the Ravenwood barn in the urban sprawl of Destiny City since she was 14. Riding is a combination of exhilaration -- going for that perfect show hunter run -- and relaxation -- just loping about the grassy, open fields next to the barn. Since finishing high school, she has also graduated from almost exclusively mucking stalls and cleaning equipment to a full-time employee who regularly trains riders and horses alike. Now that she is an instructor, she also finds herself coaching some of alma mater’s next club-hopefuls. Harper is strictly an English rider, and her favorite horse is Janissary, a bright palomino half-Arabian. She competes in dressage and jumper whenever she can.
.....................Old Movies - All kids have certain magazines and books hidden underneath their beds, at the back of the closet, or in any secret crevice away from all sorts of prying eyes. For Harper, those hidden reading materials are all about the supernatural. Though she is an adult, she knows her parents would frown on the interest and spares them (and herself by proxy) the concern. Her interest is mostly in the realm of urban legends and horrors, with gray aliens and other science-fiction taking up the fringes. The knowledge of space princesses and planet magic has not changed her outlook on these subjects, save to intensify paranoia and promote idling thoughts on connecting events. Theories and loose notes on odd events that don't quite fit in either reality are carefully kept - sometimes scrawled, only sometimes - in notebooks.

Harper's interest is mostly in the realm of urban legends and horrors, with gray aliens and such taking up the fringes. Not nearly a zealot, she also keeps this hobby to herself... unless, perhaps, someone else showed a similar interest. With all of the strange activity in Destiny City, it's understandable to want to share!
.....................Archery - Though she only first held a bow and arrow upon attending Crystal Academy, Harper developed a liking for the sport, which required patience, a keen eye, and, if the wind was particularly bad, a bit of luck. She was introduced to the sport during 'club week,' when the clubs on campus would have something of an exhibition fair to attract new members. About fourth on the laundry list of things she wanted to try, it somehow managed to distinguish itself even as she failed at any semblance of skill in a clumsy mess at the try-out. Afterward, Harper continued to stop by the range in her free time to improve herself, mostly through books, online demonstrations, and help from anyone on the range who felt like helping. She really likes the exact nature of the sport, which appeals to her scientific side. She uses school equipment out of necessity, but hopes to save up for her own set.
..............Virtues: .....................Diligence: Whether it is writing a paper or cleaning her room, Harper has a determined focus on the task at hand. That focus includes completing the task and completing it well -- her scruples say that leaving something sloppily done is just as bad as having not done it. Any outward complaints about the work are rare, though she does not consider constructive criticism and her frank opinion of the matter to be a complaint. Of course, not all things in life are fun, which Harper tries to answer by making it fun! Sometimes it's simply envisioning the result ("a nice, clean room will feel great!" ). Other situations require being more elaborate, with imagined dramatic circumstances like saving the world depends on cleaning the fridge. Harper prefers to finish one task before starting another, though she does juggle distractions in terms of importance.
.....................Ambition: Possessing a great personal drive, Harper eagerly jumps into new projects and challenges. She earnestly wants to make the world a better place -- so what if the most she can do right now is make someone's day a little easier by doing her best on school assignments and work? For her, the payoff is being able to sleep more easily at night knowing nothing is hanging over her head.
.....................Creative Solutions: Harper approaches issues from many angles and isn't concerned about not adhering to the standard if it seems to get the job done right. It's not so much that she dislikes the mundane, but that she does not see the options in terms of 'typical' and 'atypical.' Each satisfactory option is as valid as the other, simply with different approaches. This means she's very goal oriented! If anything, Harper sees options in degrees of 'efficient' and 'meandering.' Ironically, this is part of the reason she enjoys the hard sciences in school -- results are created very efficiently, with numbers and chemicals, yet they can be manipulated in new and, sometimes, unexpected ways for different results.
..............Flaws: .....................Escapism: Sometimes coping with what life throws at you can be too hard, right? So, why deal with it when just shunting the real issue to the side is much easier? Rather than confronting an issue bothering her, Harper instead tries to ignore it and hopes it will disappear on its own with time. This is usually accomplished by taking up a different, easier, more black-and-white, or simply less pressure-sensitive task that she can pour all of her attention on instead. This might mean reading a book or pulling weeds up in her mother's garden -- it may not be something Harper necessarily enjoys on its own, but it's something she can complete. This attitude feeds into her tendency for romantic (in the classic sense) naivety, where she will believe in what she wants to be true.
.....................Personal Honour Code: Harper's honour code generally aligns with common human ethics -- killing, stealing, maiming is wrong, etc. However, they can also be drastically out of sync. Perhaps a dog deserves to be saved from the train tracks more than a thief, because the dog is innocent. Perhaps that victim was due the arson on their property because they didn't donate blood. The real danger is not knowing when these judgments may come about or how they may manifest -- to an outside observer, she may appear somewhat chaotic, but in Harper's mind it is all quite structured. Because of this "gray area"/flexible code, Harper can also be influenced by those who manage to gain a certain level of respect; which means she is more likely to bow out her own judgment, supplanting it with the other person's.
.....................Severe: When carrying out a task, Harper can be a little too goal-oriented. She has learned to play nicely with others -- and usually does not mind doing so if it gets the job done -- but the option of "quick and harsh" is never completely removed from play. If there is a weak link, she thinks about how to cut it loose before how to help it and, if it's left up to her, that's exactly what gets done. It's nothing personal! ... Which is part of the problem.

- It generally appears to be the size/shape of a horse. Moreso than the others, it is less a recognizable creature and more a mass of all sorts of nasty things (though still restricted to 'nature') painted on the 'canvas' of a horse. - The attack is able to take on a visible, semi-physical form, and makes use of it by aggressively seeking out the target(s). Though it does not seek contact, if a Negaverser or youma were to try and touch the attack there would be some curious, light "resistance" like the brushing sensation, but with no other hindrance. Other senshi will experience some of the negative side effects to a lesser degree. - It brings with it a great sense of unease, anxiousness. This may manifest in a way true to the other character/youma. The impression has grown so that it actually bleeds out some of the fear stuff that it is made of, infecting the environs around it with some of its influence. Examples: something perceived out of the corner of one's eye, random nature sounds. - Duration: 2 minutes. - AOE: 4.5 meter radius around Nyx. - Cannot block an attack. It will simply pass through. - Semi-sentient.

 MythologyNyx was the goddess of the night, one of the ancient Protogenoi (first-born elemental gods). In the cosmogony of Hesiod, she was born of Air (Khaos), and breeding with Darkness (Erebos) produced Light (Aither) and Day (Hemera), the first components of the primeval universe. Alone, she spawned a brood of dark spirits, including the three Fates, Sleep, Death, Strife and Pain. According to Nyctian aesthetics, the wild, the overgrown, and the old are beautiful. They show a strong, rich history that could fill many stories, which also happens to be a form of currency on the asteroid. Most of the asteroid is made up of wooded areas, filled with all manner of bushes, trees, and undergrowth. There are notable mountains, cliffs, and hills throughout, and very little in the way of empty, open plains. It stays that way year-round, with only a few areas seeing a drop in temperature causes some inches of snow. Otherwise, the temperature stays delightfully in the ranges of spring and fall. Houses are built to blend into the countryside; the less they are noticed, the better! This goes hand-in-hand with their preference for old things, as old houses have had more time to fade back into nature. While some immigration has occurred in the past, those moving to Nyx for any long period of time are expected to adapt to the established culture. (interestingly, such immigrants can quickly climb the social ladder through sharing legends and stories of their native culture.) The upper hierarchy resembles medieval Ireland, complete with fili (singular: filid), or official keepers of the grandest tales, laws, reputations. (It makes perfect sense to Nyctians!) In kind, they are held to greater standards that promise some of the strictest and harshest punishments for lies. (Unless you’re in the business of light gossip, which equates more or less to jaywalking.) The ranks of fili include government leaders, tacticians, law enforcement, common gossip springs, and the high filid themselves, the sailor soldier of Nyx. He or she holds the strongest power of the spoken word - the Keeper of Tales Given Life. Rather than relying on props, slight-of-hand, or simply the listener’s imagination, their sailor soldier can control monstrous shadow plays that call upon Nyx’s terrible, magical creatures that only naturally appear at dawn and dusk (thankfully).  Hearth and Home The Raffertys are of strong Irish descent, with both of Harper's parents being first generation Americans and their extended family still living in Ireland. The two groups remain very close via video chat, gifts, and relatively frequent visits back “home.” Holding onto their ancestry and having family pride are prevalent themes around the household. These traits are not to the extent of snobbishness, but rather there is a sense that should one member do poorly, it would reflect poorly on everyone. As for Harper's "Irishness," she really has little to no accent, though she is trying to learn Gaelic with assistance from her parents and any other family member willing to give the effort (mostly her maternal maimeó [grandmother] and granda with whom she keeps the most in touch). Also, occasionally her older brother, Micheail, when he wants to tease her. Otherwise, Rafferty family life is happily "average." Domhnall and Eily parent with a soft, distant hand these days, more confident that their children have grown to encompass the lessons hammered into them in childhood. They are only truly adamant that their children get college degrees, believing that it will give them "better" prospects and a good life in the future, even though Domhnall was quite prosperous and fulfilled in a labor-intensive line of work. (And as a fun twist of irony, it appears his children will as well, with or without degrees.) As a middle class family, they began saving early to send Micheail and Harper to private high schools and instilling in their children the importance of scholarships.
Today, Harper lives with her parents to be close to her job at the barn and save money.
Domhnall Rafferty, Father Domhnall is a dedicated construction worker who made his way up from manual labor jobs to an overseer position, just in time for his body to welcome a desk job. In fact, it was that very promotion that put his family in Destiny City! It was a difficult decision to move the family away from Ireland when Harper was still a baby, but ultimately, he felt it was the best choice for them. Around the home, he has always insisted on a routine for his family and does not take kindly to surprise friendly visits. (Family is always welcome - no questions.) Contrasting what appears to be a gruff exterior to outsiders, Domhnall is quite cuddly to his children, and one of Harper's fondest memories is how he would act out the books that her mother wrote at bedtime.
Eily Rafferty, Mother Eily is a full-time housewife and a part-time children's book author / illustrator. She has an inherently domineering way about herself, yet remains, for the most part, soft-spoken. (Harper would always recall how her mother didn’t need to be loud to control a room.) Her books reflect the latter qualities; they are cozy re-imaginings of classic stories or warm, new tales, and all brought to life with rich watercolors. When her kids were younger, she would "test" her books on them at bedtime. Like Domhnall, Eily believes in the benefits of routine around the house, though she sometimes finds herself telling her husband to lighten up a bit.
Micheail Rafferty, Older Brother Micheail and his sister get along very well, if allowing for the usual huffle-scuffle of siblings. He is four years Harper's senior. They do not share any true hobbies, but their personalities are nonetheless quite synced. They can be a mischievous pair when they’re together, even now that they're older. Micheail is actually a bit kinder than his sister when dealing with others... he got into less fist-fights, anyway. Previously, he worked as a waiter at a local restaurant while attending Destiny City University to earn his degree in criminology with a minor in communications. Since graduating, he has earned a place as an inspector with the DCPD. Harper looks up to him quite a bit.
Brown, Dog A clingy, "Heinz 57" mutt that the Rafferty's were given by a neighbor who found an abandoned litter. Predictably - to Harper and Micheail's eternal embarrassment now that they're older - he's a brown shorthair that sorta resembles a labrador in size and build. He will follow family members anywhere and everywhere, though, thankfully, he has learned how to properly stay out from underfoot to not cause horrible tripping accidents. He still sleeps at the foot of Harper's bed every night, though. Brown only breaks away on his own to explore the fenced-in fields at the barn where Harper works and to chase ice-cream trucks. It's something about that jingle...

They've remained close friends -- with a few potholes -- for many years. One of the few she trusts with her life. Pene's decreased work as a senshi in the interests of fighting Destiny City's skewed politics has left Harper off kilter on patrols. Nyx is perplexed by the Princess' disappearance, but the connection with the moon she represented remains a beacon of hope in her memories.
