Penelope Seneca was a girl who worried quite a lot about her appearance. Did this dress make her look fat? Would her skin be clear or covered in acne? Would her classmate think she was a trollop if they saw her outside of school with a skirt just barely above the knee? If she wore one of her very few Transformers t-shirts... would someone make fun of her? Image was important; image was what people took in first, what they based all of their initial judgments on. No, Penelope didn't think that image was all there was to a person, but she recognized its importance.

That was why the teenager fidgeted with the garnet bracelet around her wrist, why she smoothed down her favorite Transformers shirt, checked her jacket again for lint, wondered again if jeans was the best pants choice. This meeting was important, perhaps the most important meeting outside of her responsabilities with the Jovians. This meeting was so she could apologize to Harper and get her best friend back.

She slid her phone open, nervously re-checking the text that Harper had sent in response to her own. Yes, she was in the right place; though closed, the ice cream parlor was in a location about equal distance from their respective homes. Yes, it was getting close to the right time, a litte later in the evening than she would have liked, but she couldn't be too picky. Penelope bit her lip as she waited, wondering how things could have gottent this bad over a misunderstanding. It was mostly her fault; she shouldn't have reacted so poorly to Harper's joke. She shouldn't have been as hurt as she was, and she definitely shouldn't have stormed away the way she did. She was willing, even eager, to accept the blame, just as soon as Harper came and allowed her the opportunity.

Streetlights had just begun humming to life -- quite literally since it was summertime, at least awhile longer -- as Harper Rafferty made her way down the sidewalk towards the designated spot. People were thinning out in the area, either going home or off toward a more lively area of the city. Her mother had reluctantly let her go out under the pretense that she was meeting a different person. She hated to lie that way, but to try and explain the situation was too much trouble and far too likely that the request would have been denied. It was better to not make her mother worry, to just save the drama for now. The smoke will clear, one way or the other.

Harper sighed, a part of her wanting to avoid this altogether because of the hassle. Penelope had been the one to blow up over nothing. Yet, Penelope... was different, somehow. That Harper felt guilty at all (only a small bit) for what had happened in the barn that night was proof. In the months that they had spent together, they had forged a strong, exciting friendship. "In a way, it would be a waste to not see if it could be patched up," she told herself. It was not the logical part of her that finally replied to the text message the other day, but it was making up for lost ground.

She hadn't thought to dress particularly nicely. Rather, Harper had just jumped at the chance to wear something that didn't have to be covered in horse and BO soon. A simple green t-shirt, pleated denim skirt, and tennis shoes fit the job perfectly. She told herself it wasn't a big deal.

Idly kicking at a rock, she hoped the ice cream shop was still open. Everything was easier over ice-cream.

Harper turned the corner and saw Penelope waiting nearby. Oddly, she hesitated. Only when she knew Penelope had spotted her as well did she approach.

"...Hey."

Whatever talking or other such plans the two girls had were about to be put on hold. Mica had been unusually busy as of late, attending meetings and collecting medical supplies. She had less time then normal to collect energy, so she was trying to make up for it by gathering as much energy as possible when she was out on patrol. That meant attacking targets she wouldn't normally pick, at times and places she wouldn't normally attack.

The Negaverse Captain flitted across rooftops, out earlier then she normally patrolled. Places were more crowded then she liked, so she was stuck searching for easy marks. The next building she landed on was the ice cream parlor, which had too many people in it for her tastes. However, the people tha hadn't made it into the safety of the building yet were fair game.

Spying a blue-haired girl that could potentially be dragged away with minimal winesses, Mica dropped quietly from the roof to the ground behind Harper. Not one for foreplay, Mica was standing and making a grab for the girl within seconds.

Rooftops were a good place to lounge, though Invidia would have preferred the comfort of a fluffy down blanket draped over a top-of-the-line bed. Beggars couldn't really be choosers, however, and the maine coon was pleasantly draped across a bed of cardboard boxes with her eyes on the sky overhead. Her attention didn't leave the stars until she heard the faint sounds of conversation below, at which point she leaped carefully off of her box and peered over the ledge.

Humans.

For a moment the guardian cat, sporting more jingling jewelry than a preteen girl, considered simply going back to her makeshift bed. Then two things happened at once: first, what was undoubtedly a negaverse agent jumped out from the shadows and second, a familiar feeling swept over Invidia from the two humans.

Knowing that she wouldn't reach the unfortunate girl in time to save her from the initial attack, the guardian began looking for the fastest route down to the ground. Fire escape. She dashed for the exit with every ounce of speed she could muster and began her descent in a silence only a feline's grace could manage.

Penelope had just slipped her cellphone back into her pocket when she saw Harper, smiling softly and waving her over. The quiet greeting prompted her to speak as well, but it was interupeted by the appearance of a figure behind her friend, "Hey... Harper, look out!"

Without waiting to see if her warning would be enough, the black-haired teenager dashed forward and grabbed hold of her friend's hand, tugging her in the direction of the street beside the icecream parlor. Penelope might not have her fuku on, but she still had all the memories from her time in uniform... and to her mind, black clothing plus weapons always equaled Negaverse. There was no time to explain to the other girl why they running, not now. They needed to get away--more specifically she had to make sure Harper got away!

And if they couldn't get away all together... then maybe the maneuver would at least give Penelope the time to henshin up without an icecream parlor full of people watching.

"Look out? What kind of a greeti--" Harper's thoughts were thrown off track when Penelope suddenly sprang into action and sharply took her hand. The bewildered look on her face managed to stick, though. Nothing had put her on edge during the walk over here: no shifty looks, no suspicious behavior (that she knew of). There were really barely enough people to be counted at all. So what in the pluperfect hell had gotten into the maroon-eyed girl?

Nonetheless, she humored her once-best-friend, if only because she didn't want to see what would happen if she resisted. Harper could easily pop her one, of course, but she sorta wanted to think that they really weren't that much ex-friends. She also wasn't going to be dragged down the street without an explanation, either.

"Geez, Pene, what exactly am I looking out for?!" she yelled, half-stumbling as she was pulled along right past what could have been delicious ice cream.

" Tch."

Typical. Find seemingly easy prey, easy prey escapes; escapes with help, that is. Without that interference, Mica would've had the girl. Still, all was not lost. She might not be the strongest physically, but she was fairly fast on her feet, so Mica took off in pursuit of the girls, sticking to the shadows whenever possible. She'd stab them if she got close enough.

A small sigh of annoyance escaped the mouth of the feline as the group began to move away frantically. The miniature feet of her cat form picked up the pace as soon as they collided with solid ground, making double time towards the winding path the young girls were taking in an attempt to escape that devilish Negaverser.

Would she get to them before one of them had their starseed ripped out? She hoped so. As it was at the moment, she couldn't even get a good shot at the Negaverser with her laser - the distance between them was just too much. It occurred to her that for her to help, they would have to stop soon, but that might also mean their complete demise.

Challenge accepted! The sigh on her lips died and was replaced with a determined set to her eyes. Her head lowered and she pushed her furred paws a little faster.

Penelope did not immediately answer her friend just because of her desperation to get away from the enemy that could be pursuing them. She also didn't know exactly what to say, and her adrenaline flooded brain would not allow much coherency as she blurted out, "Negaverse... will steal our energy... or worse..."

As they ran, she slid the henshin pen from her jean pocket, mentally thankful that it had become somewhat standard procedure for her to keep it with her all the time. Once she felt like they were a safe enough distance away, for the time being, the black-haired girl stared at the mystical object in her hand momentarily. She knew what she had to do... and just prayed that she had time to do it before the person pursuing them caught up.

She hadn't wanted it to be like this. If anything, Penelope would've wanted to sit down and reveal to her friend who and what she was in private, in a safe place where she could apologize for hiding it for so long, where she could explain everything she knew and, for at least one moment, stop the lying. But this situation robbed her of that chance, so all she could do was hold her henshin pen aloft and call on the power of her moon, "Pasiphae Power, Make-Up!"

After the maroon light disappeared, Sailor Pasiphae planted her heels in front of Harper and began to look through the shadows for the Negaverse officer. The defensive only Senshi knew that she was pretty much a sitting duck, but she didn't dare call her shield... not when a powerless girl stood behind her. Still, she raised her hands in a defensive pose and whispered a warning to her friend, "Harper... as soon as the fight starts, you need to start running again as fast as you can." The normally quiet girl's voice was strangely serious; she did not have time to argue.

"Negaverse?" Harper echoed as she was all but towed along behind Penelope at this point. Maybe it was the name of a street gang. Or... maybe even one of those terrible creatures again, like the one that had attacked them at the school library (which was the last time they were sent running like mad). A familiar, terrible mixture of curiosity and fear stirred in the pit of her stomach. But if that was the answer, then why not just say so?

When they did finally come to a stop, no answers were forthcoming. Harper huffed and turned to face where they had fled from, leaving Penelope to fiddle with whatever it was she took out of her pocket. There was a great panorama of nothing, save for a fluffy cat. However, before anything else could be said or done, a bright light broke out from her friend. A bright maroon light, filled with beads, that ultimately left her friend in a tiara, bows, and a skirt. And that was a short list of things that weren't there before.

"Well... erm... o-okay then," Harper stuttered out in response to Penelope's(?) warning.

No, wait, what.

Moving on instinct, she backed away from the sailor suited girl.

By the time Mica caught up with her targets, one of them had seemingly run away and vanished. In her place stood one of those magical vermin, decked out in surprisingly subdued colors. Not that it was to her advantage; it made her more unique, and thus memorable.

Approaching slowly, allowing her spear to tap on the ground like a cane, her eyes flicked from the Senshi, to the civilian, and finally back to the Senshi.

“ You are?”

If the Senshi used her attack then she’d learn her name by default, but it was good to ask. Not that knowing it would make a big difference; once her question was answered, regardless of the answer itself, Mica planned to attack.

Despite the hysteria about to ensue, Invidia had managed to stop making a beeline for the alley once she saw the Negaverser closing in ahead of her. If she rushed towards them now, there was a good chance the soldier would see her and understand who she was - more importantly, what she was there to do.

So instead she stopped and curled herself calmly around a nearby lamppost, rubbing her head against the cool metal in that silly way earth felines did and pretending like it was vastly important that she do so. All the while she was looking, stealing glances with eerie green eyes at her surroundings so that she might find some way to sneak into the alley without being seen.

It didn't take long.

She fell into a lazy strut, swinging her puffy tail and walking carelessly across the road. She headed for a shop close to the alley mouth, making sure she didn't appear too hasty and thus suspicious just in case the Negaverse agent got distracted from the senshi. She carefully leaped up onto a barrel used as part of a display outside of the store and then onto a low hanging awning that stretched across the side of the building. Draped fabric wasn't always the easiest thing to maneuver across but she managed without any too-intelligent 'oophs' or curses. As she approached the side she peered over quickly, down at the pair about to make a stand off.

Without a word she leaped down onto a trashcan and darted, as quickly as she could, for the girl backing away in terror. She wished that she could have said something comforting but talking cats were rarely a comfort to humans. So, instead, she simply headed for the ankles with a heavy purr in her throat, twining and rubbing against the fabric of her pants leg in an effort to grab her attention.

Sailor Pasiphae was honestly too busy trying to quell her own fear to pay much attention to the cat and its antics; she only had eyes for the Negaverse agent in front of her. Her eyes was immediately drawn to the weapon tapping along the street. A spear--not a metal tipped javelin as her first opponent's had been, but with some kind of orange crystal at the end... still, the similarity to that of the person who had frightened her so badly did nothing to settle her nerves. And then her opponent spoke... wanting to know her name, or rather the name of the place from which she drew her power. The Senshi's mouth hardened into a firm line as she tried to convey a sense of strength and security she truly didn't possess, and answered curtly. "Pasiphae."

With the question answered, she leapt into battle with a kick, aiming her first blow for the Negaverse agent's legs and hoping to knock her down. Pasiphae had little faith in her ability to win this fight. Dusting youma was one thing... fighting the Negaverse officers themselves was another. She had a grand total of two battles with actual, human opponents under her belt--one that she had been lucky to escape with only a scratch, one that she had won simply because her opponent lacked a weapon. If she had had the time, had the opportunity, she would have called on more powerful, more experienced allies... but as was too often the case, right now she was the only one who could stand up to her foe.

And now there was another one! A very pointy looking spear, gold-tipped and mocking with its light taps on the cement, accompanied her. This cloaked female addressed Penelope (or whoever she was at the moment), who answered, yet it may as well have been Greek for the amount of sense it was making.

This definitely was not some lowly street gang -- in fact, more and more, it was reminding her of those 'Destiny City terrorists' reports. First that monster in the library and now this? The Twilight Zone forum was not going to believe this one, but at this point Harper would settle for just getting home in one piece. In a far off place in her mind, she knew her legs were still steadily inching away as autopilot took over motor skills and insisted that she get away get away get aw---

Fluffy?

It was such a sharp contrast to the situation that Harper couldn't help but notice the fluffy cat, one white paw standing out amongst its darker tips, twirling itself around her ankles with purrs rolling out. Stopped in her tracks, she looked between the approaching danger and the unexpectedly affectionate cat. She instantly felt a pull of sympathy for the simple creature as a consequence of hanging around the (more grungy) barn cats -- except those cats probably would have run away from an ominous, spear-wielding stranger -- and her own pet Brown, even if he was a dog. She bit her lip.

"Shhh," Harper coo-ed in a whisper as she scooped up the cat with a careful motion that hopefully wouldn't spook it nor call attention to them. She started backing away more quickly now. "Let's just get out of here, okay?" she whispered again, as much to herself as the cat.

The feline’s presence was rather stupidly overlooked or ignored as Mica focused instead on the Senshi in front of her. She didn’t want to be caught off-guard if the Senshi attacked. And attack the Senshi – Pasiphae – did, though rather clumsily. Mica was easily able to read to upcoming kick and sidestepped out of the way, twirling her spear in an attempt to whap the Senshi on the side.

“ That your best shot, Pasiphae?”

Nevermind that Pasiphae could be one of those Senshi with especially annoying magic, Mica simply couldn’t let such a pathetic attack slide without remark.
