Distinguishing Features: Buck Teeth: Her genetics being as they are she has rather prominent front teeth giving her a bucktoothed look. She doesn't seem all that self-conscious of it at all at the moment other than the odd moments where she lisps or can't communicate as clearly as she would like to. Otherwise she seems just fine with her front teeth existing as they are.
Rat Tail: She has rat-tail. It is pretty long and it seems to, most of the time, help her keep balance in moments where she might need it the most. This doesn't mean she won't stumble or fall at all but most of the time she can use her tail to save herself from more serious falls if they should ever happen.
Rat Ears: Located at the top of Miranda's head are a set of little pink ears. They seem to have pretty decent hearing capabilities. She can move and swivel them about to a certain degree but other than that they are pretty stationary. The only real challenge to her ears is getting hats with the holes already made in them so that they don't muffle her hearing.
Chubby Build: She is overweight but a lot of that can be attributed to her hypothyroidism. With proper medication, diet, and exercise she'll probably slim down quite a bit though it is not certain that she'll ever be perfectly thin. For the most part the goal is to get keep her healthy and active more than anything else.
Overall Paleness: Being albino it means that she's pretty pale all over and susceptible to sunburn easily. She won't ever get a tan if she goes outside in the sun for a while. She must wear very high sunscreen and sometimes hats to ensure that she is well covered from the sun's harmful rays if she is outside for any prolonged time.

Personality:
Friendly and sociable, Miranda is a very bright girl. She tries to make everyone's life a bit of sunshine whenever she can, though she hopefully isn't completely obnoxious about it. She enjoys making friends and will always try her hardest to get along with someone even if they try to make it difficult for her. Most might describe her as being bubbly as well as cheerful and rarely without a smile upon her face.
She is pretty open and not given to keeping secrets from others and will pretty be very forward about whether or not she likes someone without any reservation about that fact. Miranda will keep the secrets of others to herself faithfully if asked to but tends to keep little to no secrets of her own. Miranda is fairly naive at the moment and will likely trust anyone and anything they tell her with all the faith in the world that the person is being honest with her, at this point she has no reason to distrust anyone or have reason to believe they would do anything to harm her.
Miranda's curiosity is almost boundless. If she hears, smells, or sees something unusual she will want to go check it out for herself even if it means that she will get in trouble, but of course she does have some self preservation. She won't go check out a curiosity if it would put her in mortal danger or if it would endanger the lives others, in such a case she will work hard to ignore her curiosity and try to focus on something else instead. She will at times ask many questions about various things to try and figure stuff out on her own through the questioning.
All-in-all not much gets or keeps Miranda down and she is fairly resilient girl. Teasing or making fun of her tends to roll off of her and not stick for the most part. The only time she is known to be rather irritated is when her lisp gives the rat-girl the occasional issue in communicating, but she tends to keep that to herself for now...
Odd Tidbits:
Speech Impediment: Slight Lisp; Sometimes her teeth get in the way of her talking, much to her annoyance as she loves to talk, and her words come out a little strange. Most notable would probably be anything that involves the letter 's', and sometimes she tends to get excitable and slur her words together making her hard to understand. For the most part she tries to carefully annunciate but when she is overly tired or stressed all care goes out the window and the victim she tries to communicate with is left trying to find a Miranda-to-English dictionary.
Photophobia: Sight; She loves to be outside but the light of the outdoors cause her pain. Due to this she must wear a combination of sunglasses or wide brimmed hats. The hats she doesn't mind but she doesn't like the way most sunglasses tend to color her view of the world or at times even seem to dim it, but she'll grudgingly wear them and keep them on. Every now and again she may stubbornly lift the sunglasses a tad to get a better look around herself, regret it immediately and let them plop back down on the bridge of her nose. Her sensitivity doesn't only pertain to sunlight but to most light in general, but those are easily taken care of; it is the great outdoors that doesn't seem to want to dim itself down for her convenience.
Sunburn Magnet: Skin; Her skin needs to be protected at all times from the sun. Usually a very strong sunblock lotion does the trick for now but it would still be unwise to allow her to spend a large amount of time outside. Needing sunblock lotion bothers her a lot less than needing sunglasses does mostly because Val has gone out of his way to make it part of her daily hygiene routine and usually makes sure she gets some on before outings depending on how long ago the last application was. Travel-sized sunblock lotion bottles are usually carried along as well, just in case.

Miranda's life is a pretty simple one at the moment. Right now she finds that her family is growing and expanding and is rather enjoying the prospect of it since she wants siblings and also to live with Other and she is getting both of those wishes at once. Thus her life, right now, is a very happy one. She is very happy to be living with Valeri as a whole. He treats her well.

Family: Ophelia Stark (Mother; Living) - Eccentric, Free spirited, cheerful. Ophelia is one of those oddly 'hip' women that always wear colorful clothing and rarely frowns. She is in her early fifties but behaves like she is in her twenties. She loves to travel and is constantly abroad. She had divorced from Viktor when Stacia and Val were young and hasn't remarried but she has entertained a lover or two and still does.
Viktor Stark (Father; Living) - Hard working, stubborn, serious, and a bit of a pessimist. It isn't certain how or why Ophelia and he had met or even gotten married in the first place as they are so opposite of each other. He still carries a torch for Ophelia but he often hides the fact and prefers to see her happy rather than selfishly keep her locked away. Viktor is a loving parent and wishes nothing but good for his son and daughter. Viktor is currently unmarried and as of yet hasn't even dated since the divorce many years ago.
Stacia Conrad (Older Sister; Living) - She is often described as the 'watered down' version of her mother. Stacia has always been the protective big sister over her little brother and will likely tease him relentlessly the day he ever dates anyone or forms an actual family. Stacia is currently happily married and has two children of her own. Stacia is sometimes referred to as the quintessential mother and wife.
Distinguishing Features: Walks with a Limp: His right leg is crippled and pretty much beyond further repair at this point. He walks with a rather heavy limp when not assisted in some manner by a cane. He has to attend physical therapy and take a regimen of theraputic pain medication at least once a day.
Freckles: He has freckles dotting across the bridge of his nose and a little upon his cheeks.

While he isn't exactly a social butterfly he isn't unfriendly either. He is friendly to others and even considered kind amongst those he meets and talks to. Though he treats others with kindness and respect he doesn't trust easily and tends to keep most at an arms length. Most people see him with a smile and despite his trust issues he is rather optimistic. He loves children and has an easier time with trusting them than he does adults. Val enjoys his privacy and tends to prefer to be alone and very rarely goes out in search of company of any kind. When he befriends people he is a very loyal and generous individual. Val will often speak out against ill treatment of others and if he is offended people will probably hear of it straight from him. He is blunt and straight forward and this could possibly be his flaw as well as a merit.

Moderate Social Anxiety: It is kind of hard to get Val to go out in public, especially after the incident which crippled his right leg. He takes anti-depressants for it and also attends a session with a therapist once or twice a week.
Piano Talent: Viktor was trying to give his son a more 'rounded' sort of life and thus made Valeri take piano lessons. Val didn't mind much and even had a natural talent for it which delighted his instructor at the time. He doesn't really have a piano of his own and thus the talent is pretty much hidden unless he has access to a piano with which to 'perform'. It's pretty much one of those weird and unusual things someone finds out about him when the time comes.
Pen Name: Gonzales Freedman: Valeri essentially took a dartboard, a list of names, and a set of darts. That is how the name was born. It amused him thus he kept it and then used that name to publish the book that would lead to a rather painful moment in his life. Not everyone realizes that Gonzales Freedman is him until he either tells them or they went to school with him and put two-and-two together for themselves. Since it wasn't in a 'good' part of his life he prefers to forget the name existed at all, though not all the forgetting in the world could change what had happened.

History:
Valeri was born in Gaia to Gaian parents whose parents had also been born to Gaians and so on and so forth. Valeri’s birth was not unusual or remarkable in any way. He was carried to term and was born without complication. The most excited thing that happened to Valeri during his formative younger ages was that his parents had divorced. His father had decided to ‘free’ his wife from the obligations of their marriage. The father had gotten custody of him and Stacia, Valeri’s older sister, and the mother had gotten visitations and the like. Both parents parted on fairly good terms.
It wasn’t until late elementary school that he had decided to pick up the pen and paper and began to aspire toward a career in writing. Valeri had always had a fairly vivid imagination and a way with words but it wasn’t until he was about to move on to high school that he had begun to have any sort of passion for writing in any way, shape, or form.
In high school Valeri had always had an odd sort of luck that got him into odd situations and discoveries that would likely be better left unsaid due to the very scandalous nature of it. While the lad was young he wasn’t necessarily stupid and had used much of these discoveries to his advantage via blackmail. Blackmail had lent him a nice comfy cushion to ride upon throughout his average high school career where afterwards he went to a community college taking small classes in graphic arts and design while he continued writing merely as a hobby.
During the last leg of his college career Val found himself facing a pretty steep loan that he needed to repay and instead of getting a dead-end job and working himself to death for the next few years he wrote a book under the pen name ‘Gonzales Freedman’. The pen name was acquired via the help of a dartboard and a list of names. Val wrote a book simply entitled Guilty: How I Survived Gino High.
The single book had, amazingly, been enough to give him the money he needed to pay off college loan debt and live pretty well for a good long while, but little did he know that this one little book had set off a series of circumstances that would change his life, though not for the better.
He had known that the book would lead to a mass firing of a lot of the staff and thus Val had opted to publish to publish his book under the pen name he had created, but it was not enough to save him from complete anonymity. Many of the people had connected the dots and realized who was at the root of their woes and they promptly took it out on him mostly via death threats but nothing serious ever really came of the threats until one fateful day.
It had been a tough week for Valeri when the incident occurred that had crippled his leg and it had been a tough year for Mr. Klotz who had up until a year ago been teaching Algebra I up until the book came out and let his unsavory habits be known to the upper management of the school. Mr. Klotz not only lost his job but he also lost his wife, because she divorced him, and the respect and trust of many of his colleagues. The now defunct Algebra teacher had figured out who Gonzales Freedman is and then proceeded to plan the downfall of the one behind the pen name. Alas the best laid plans of mice and men often go to the wayside for after days of building up alcohol based anger Mr. Klotz couldn’t endure the embarrassment and rage any longer.
While Mr. Klotz drunkenly observed Valeri coming down the steps of the courthouse from yet another lawsuit and had been about to cross the street and the next thing Val knew there was a crazed man shouting obscenities from within a car that was speeding directly for him! No matter what Valeri did he could not dodge the car as it careened at him and eventually hit him causing him great harm before the car had a crash stop into the building next to the courthouse. Mr. Koltz ended up dying from the impact of going through his windshield as he had not been wearing a seatbelt while Valeri was severely injured and nearly died due to his wounds.
It was instantly diagnosed within the ER that Val’s right leg would most definitely never be the same again...
His family and friends will often say there is a major difference between the Val that they once knew and the Val that now lives in his modest two bedroom apartment off of the income he now garners mostly from his career as a Web and Graphic Design. The old Val was a shallow, conniving, sadistic fellow that cared for nothing but Val and his own well being (it came from being the youngest and the only boy of the small family unit). The incident is thought of, by many, as the best thing that could have ever happened to Valeri for it had opened up something in him (despite the mental and physical challenges he now faces) and it had made him a better warmer person.

Miranda adores Valeri and listens to him whenever he tells her to do something and is generally very obedient to him. They have a good father-and-daughter bond that seems unbreakable. Sometimes Miranda gets upset at Valeri for small things but all-in-all she forgives his missteps after a few well played pranks. Thanks to him she has a stable and loving home to live in. Valeri would do anything for her and vise versa.
Other Olivia Price-Sinclair

Miranda loves Other a great deal and would do anything the young woman asks of her. They have hit it off since day one and they seem to just comfortably fall into the mother-and-daughter role. To Miranda the woman could do no wrong and Other is a complete and utter saint in her eyes. It is assured that if anyone would speak badly about her chosen 'Mami' they would face the wrath of a very upset little rat-girl. Miranda is ecstatic about her Papi marrying Other and them moving into Other's residence and is even more ecstatic that they seem to be giving her a sibling as well. ||Papi's Friends____________________

A tall cat-man who has a son that Miranda gets along with very well. Valeri and Deet seemed to have hit it off rather well together and seem to be becoming fast friends. Deet has proven his reliability to Valeri by being there when he was most needed in a time of emotional crisis. Valeri would happily help his large friend whenever it is needed and even stand up for him in a fight. Deet is someone Valeri can enjoy being around and talk to without fear of some sort of rejection or put down.

She was a strange little girl whom he bonded with immediately while he waited for his bus at the bus stop one day. Soon he was taking her back to his place for pizza, soda, and movies after a short conversation about her family and why she was 'running away' from her mother and father whom were having marital problems. Val feels a strong paternal bond with her and feels that if he could have had a biological daughter she would probably be it and sometimes wishes she were his daughter.

He doesn't know her name. He doesn't know where she came from. All he knows is that she tried to chomp on his neck after he accidentally fell on her lap and yet he doesn't hold that against her. After all he should have known better. After keeping a safe distance from each other they made pleasant conversation about his leg and how his medication was slowly not working. Valeri liked her but he never got her name and he never gave her his. Oddly that doesn't bother him in the slightest.

 ||About Brown Rats____________________  Originally called the "Hanover rat" by people wishing to link problems in 18th century England with the House of Hanover, it is not known for certain why the brown rat is named Rattus norvegicus (Norwegian rat) as it did not originate from Norway. However, the English naturalist John Berkenhout, author of the 1769 book Outlines of the Natural History of Great Britain, is most likely responsible for popularizing the misnomer. Berkenhout gave the brown rat the binomial name Rattus norvegicus believing that it had migrated to England from Norwegian ships in 1728, although no brown rat had entered Norway at that time.
By the early to middle part of the 19th century, British academics were aware that the brown rat was not native to Norway, hypothesizing (incorrectly) that it may have come from Ireland, Gibraltar or across the English Channel with William the Conqueror. As early as 1850, however, a more correct understanding of the rat's origins was beginning to develop. The British novelist Charles Dickens acknowledged the misnomer in the 2 June 1888 edition of his weekly journal, All the Year Round, writing:
"Now there is a mystery about the native country of the best known species of rat, the common brown rat. It is frequently called, in books and otherwise, the 'Norway rat,' and it is said to have been imported into this country in a ship-load of timber from Norway. Against this hypothesis stands the fact that when the brown rat had become common in this country, it was unknown in Norway, although there was a small animal like a rat, but really a lemming, which made its home there."
Academics began to understand the origins and corrected etymology of the brown rat towards the end of the 19th century, as seen in the 1895 text Natural History by American scholar Alfred Henry Miles:
"The brown rat is the species common in England, and best known throughout the world. It is said to have travelled from Persia to England less than two hundred years ago and to have spread from thence to other countries visited by English ships."
Though the assumptions surrounding this species' origins were not yet entirely accurate, by the 20th century it was established among naturalists that the brown rat did not originate in Norway, rather that the species came from central Asia and (likely) China. Despite this, this species' common name of "Norway rat" is still in use today.

Laboratory rats have served as an important animal model for research in psychology, medicine, and other fields.
History
Laboratory rats share origins with their cousins in domestication, the fancy rats. In 18th century Europe, wild Brown rats ran rampant and this infestation fueled the industry of rat-catching. Rat-catchers would not only make money by trapping the rodents, but also by turning around and selling them for food, or more importantly, for rat-baiting. Rat-baiting was a popular sport which involved filling a pit with rats and timing how long it took for a terrier to kill them all. Over time, breeding the rats for these contests produced variations in color, notably the albino and hooded varieties. The first time one of these albino mutants was brought into a laboratory for a study was in 1828, in an experiment on fasting. Over the next 30 years rats would be used for several more experiments and eventually the laboratory rat became the first animal domesticated for purely scientific reasons.

 ||Hypothyroidism____________________ Hypothyroidism is the disease state in humans and in animals caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. Cretinism is a form of hypothyroidism found in infants.
About three percent of the general population is hypothyroid. Factors such as iodine deficiency or exposure to Iodine-131 (I-131) can increase that risk. There are a number of causes for hypothyroidism. Historically, and still in many developing countries, iodine deficiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide. In iodine-replete individuals, hypothyroidism is mostly caused by Hashimoto's thyroiditis, or by a lack of the thyroid gland or a deficiency of hormones from either the hypothalamus or the pituitary.
Hypothyroidism can result from postpartum thyroiditis, a condition that affects about 5% of all women within a year after giving birth. The first phase is typically hyperthyroidism. Then, the thyroid either returns to normal or a woman develops hypothyroidism. Of those women who experience hypothyroidism associated with postpartum thyroiditis, one in five will develop permanent hypothyroidism requiring life-long treatment.
Hypothyroidism can also result from sporadic inheritance, sometimes autosomal recessive.
Hypothyroidism is also a relatively common hormone disease in domestic dogs, with some specific breeds having a definite predisposition.
Temporary hypothyroidism can be due to the Wolff-Chaikoff effect. A very high intake of iodine can be used to temporarily treat hyperthyroidism, especially in an emergency situation. Although iodine is substrate for thyroid hormones, high levels prompt the thyroid gland to take in less of the iodine that is eaten, reducing hormone production.

Albinism results from inheritance of recessive alleles. The condition is known to affect mammals (including humans), fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians. It is not the same as leucism, where all integumental pigment is absent at least in patches but the eyes have their usual color.

In a quaint little neighborhood in the area of Barton sits a cheery, two-story house. It was a bit large for just one young lady to live in, but it's perfectly fine for a family now. The first floor consists of the living area which the front door opens directly into, the kitchen, the dining room, a half bathroom and the door to the basement.
But we don't go in the basement, it's scary. Well...to Other it's scary. All that's down there anyway is the washer, the dryer and storage.
Beside the basement door is the staircase that goes, you guessed it, upstairs. Directly to the right is Miranda's bedroom and the nursery for the coming baby, originally they were guest rooms for Other's parents but the children obviously need them more. Across the hall from (Whichever kid gets that room)'s room is an office, mainly where Other keeps most of her books and things she has collected over time, and it has Val's computer in there now too. Next to the childrens' bedrooms is their bathroom, and then the master bedroom. Obviously this is Other and Val's room.
