Deet grumbled. He HATED having sales. He absolutely loathed them. They attracted people who don't even LIKE books, people who would try to haggle for old books that could summon the dead, and every one and their mother would ask if they had Twilight. Of course they had Twilight! It's a silly book but it sold damn well! He'd have to be a completely idiotic simpleton not to carry Twilight!

Leo, on the other hand, was enjoying the traffic...And the discount books! Not because they were good (most of them weren't very pretty, and some didn't even have pictures) but he could do some thing TOTALLY awesome with them...Forts! Book forts!

"Okay Mr. Scruffles, you keep a look-out for any pirates!" beamed Leo, putting him out on a "window".

They had gone out on a whim to go on a walk in order to take a break from packing away everything in their home. Miranda was once again feeling a bit edgy and Valeri was getting tired of staring at boxes and deciding what should go in which box and where that box should go until it was packed into a truck to move into Other's house. Miranda had made a demand in particular. She wanted to go see Leo while they were out and about and what a better way to surprise a friend than to just simply drop in?

Sure they could call first and inform him but what could possibly go wrong?

Well for one thing it seemed as if the shop Deet owned and worked at was busy today. Val bit down on his lower lip a little as he stared at the traffic going in and out of the shop, maybe his news for Deet could wait until another day? Either way he didn't see why a busy store would stop Miranda from playing with her friend so he didn't hesitate as he opened the shop's door and wandered in.

Not even a few moments into the store the small rat-girl exuberantly called out, "Leeee-ooooh~!" to see if that would summon her friend into her field of vision. She tugged at her Papi's hand and gazed up at him, "He here righ'th?"

Valeri nodded a bit and replied, "I am sure he's somewhere," in a reassuring tone. Then he gazed over at the already harried looking Deet and greeted him with a wave of his free hand, "Hey buddy, don't murder me alright...?"

Until Leo popped up he wasn't ready to let go of his daughter's hand just yet.

"For the last time, I assure you we have Percy Jack-...Oh, 'eyo Valeri. Good morning, Miranda." Deet said, clearly a little frazzled and tired, but managing to be jovial for the little mouse girl and his cane-wielding friend. The man scratched the back of his neck, "So, what can I do for my favorite little customer?" Deet asked Miranda happily. She was so adorable!

Leo crawled out of his fort in the back, heading towards the front of the store. He was happy that his Daddy told him no one on Gaia ever ate, that meant he could take those books with the pretty pictures of food on the cover! They were kind of big and heavy, but they stacked nicely! Avoiding the customers (some thing he became good at) he picked up a copy of The Delicious Cookie Book, smiling as he saw his Daddy...Talking to Mr. Val! That meant Miranda was here, too! The usually shy boy happily walked over, "Hey Miranda!" the little boy smiled.

"Hey," Valeri replied not really minding that the large cat-man used his full name. For as much bull that the Gaian put his friend through it was the least he could allow. He quietly let go of Miranda's hand for now so she can wave at Deet and giggle at his words. Her? A customer? That was very silly but it made her feel very grown up.

"I wanna play with Leeeooo-ohh~," she replied to Deet and then saw and heard Leo she threw her hands up into the air, "Yay!" made her way to him rather quickly and openly threw her arms about him in a hug, "Hai Leo! We play now'th ye'th?"

Valeri watched the children re-unite once more and glanced over at Deet, "Yep, it's why we're here, plus I need to talk to Deet, if he has the time. So play all you want." He told his daughter. If nothing else Val'd gleefully help his friend around the shop until Miranda was ready to go back. Though Valeri did have some things to tell his large friend but they could ... kind of wait until Deet was not busy.

Leo let out a small, piggish snort when Miranda threw her arms around him. Yaaay, Miranda was here! Now he had help making his fort even bigger! "Thank you Mister Val!" Leo said quite happily to the red-headed man with a limp, dragging Miranda by the hand towards his book-fortress.

Deet smile faltered once the two toddlers were off, pinching the bridge of his nose once he was sure his son couldn't hear his griping, "Ugghhh...I hate Sales, Val, I really do. At least Leo's a good kid, keeps himself busy...So, whats up this time?" Deet asked with a smirk.

Miranda let Leo 'drag' her away. She stumbled a little after him with a merry little laugh as she went with him toward the book fortress. She stared at the construct upon seeing it and let out a small, and very impressed 'Oooh~'. She looked at Leo and then at the fortress and then at Leo once more before she asked, "Did ya build'th thi'th?"

One would think that Leo built a pyramid from stone right in the middle of the shop from the way Miranda reacted.

Val kindly let Deet 'deflate' and chuckled a bit, "Yet here ya are with a book shop," he teased lightly and then startled a bit sheepishly when Deet asked his question. He reached up and rubbed his neck and gave a short laugh and simply said, "I asked her to marry me, and she said yes...After she informed me that she was pregnant."

Leo nodded quite proudly, even striking a bit of a heroic stance, "Yeah-huh! Made it all by myself!" Leo smiled broadly, "Daddy says he can't sell these books so they might as well be bricks! You wanna help me make it bigger?" Leo said, pointing to the many books of Mary Parrin's Going Maverick and old carb-free cook books for bakers.

"Well I love books, I love selling books, I just hate our yearly sales..." Deet said between his teeth as a customer came walking by, the face dropping back to a relaxed smirk, listening to Val's news...Wait...Wait...He what?! He did what?! "That's great!" Deet said, giving Val a very affectionate if not few bone snapping bear hug. He put the man back down, not even caring that a few customers (some of the less outrageous ones that no one would notice any way) stopped and looked, "Wait wait wait...Oh, ohhh, she's pregnant? That's fantastic news, bud." Deet said with a wide smile.

Miranda parted her lips in amazement. Leo was awesome! Yes he was awesome because he built things and he lived in a place that he could make fortresses out of from books and various other things that made Leo rather fantastic and amongst her favorite people. Things she could ramble about if allowed. She wiggled her behind a bit causing her tail to swish with the movement, "Ye'th! I help'th! I good at the help'th! What I gotta do?" she asked with wide pink eyes staring at her companion anxious to get started.

Val dropped his cane during the bear hug and even uttered a small tight (but manly) squeak of surprise. He felt his vertebrae pop in a place or two. Not an entirely bad thing, as he was released he felt much better though he needed to reach toward the counter so he could lean on it with a small blush dusting over his freckled cheeks. Valeri straightened his glasses, "Th..Thanks buddy, umm...could you pick up my cane for me, please?" he queried. After a few moments he added a new question, "And would you mind coming to meet her? We could have dinner and stuff together. You can even bring Leo and he can play with Squishie."

There was one more question of course but that could come along a little later.

"Of course, sure, I'd love to meet her." Deet said with a smile, patting Val on the shoulder before reaching down and picking up the man's cane, handing it back to him. He noted how it was a little heavier than he expected it to be. Felt hollow, too.

"You gotta stack the big ones first, then the medium ones, then the tiny ones! That's how you get 'em to stand up straight and stuff!" the little pig boy said quite happily, having already organized them into respected piles. Wasn't that hard, really.

Valeri took back his cane and chuckled lightly, "Good because you don't have a choice in the matter," he teased a bit as he straightened himself out a bit. There was a pause as another question occurred to him probably the better one to start off with as it would no doubt butter his large friend up as well as make his next request not sound so ... Demanding. He reached up and scratched at his jaw, "Was wondering if you'd be my Best Man at the wedding when it happens...?"

The small girl paid attention to her best friend and nodded a bit, "Okay! I can do that," she assured excitedly as she started to look around and then start picking up a book here and there, "Like thi'th?" Miranda had no real clue as to what she was doing all she knew was that she is playing with a friend and it would be so much fun.

Deet was kind of taken aback by such a proposal. It's not that he was offended; he was quite honored indeed. While he and Val had a friendship, yes, he had no idea that Val viewed him as such a good friend already. Then again, he was the first person the author went to after he had his little sexcapades...Which also explained the pregnancy, really. Deet smiled, "I'd be honored! I'll need to get myself a tuxedo..."

The pig boy nodded excitedly as Miranda did it perfectly. Not that he would be upset if she didn't do it "perfectly". It was stacking books like blocks, there wasn't really an artfulness to it. "Wanna help me find a king and queen to live in it? Huh? Do ya?"

Val laughed a little and nodded, "Eventually. We haven't set a date yet, we just know that we're gonna wait until the baby is born and all that so she doesn't stress herself out more than she needs to. So you have a bit of time to look into a tux and what not, maybe we could go shopping for them together sometime?"

She was a very helpful little girl and paused a bit when the question came, she nodded a bit, "You ha'th dollie'th? Maybe leggo'th people?" Miranda asked. Maybe they needed to be bigger because Kings and Queens should be very big so that they can rule over the 'little people'. Obviously she took things quite literally.

"Sounds like a plan my good man, sounds like a plan." Deet said, ignoring the fact that he had customers waiting and people arguing over the shirtless werewolf or the blindingly pale vampire. Deet couldn't help but chuckle, "So, know if it's gonna be a boy or a girl?"

"Ohhhhh, a doll would be perfect!...But...I don't have any." Leo said, kind of disappointed sounding, "Boys don't have dolls...But I have action figures! Though Nate put gum on some of them 'cause he's a little jerk."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 08, 2010 8:06 pm

Valeri peered over at the customers rubbing at his chin a bit and then leaned on the counter as if he was going to be there for a good long while. What? He could be a jerk if he wanted to be. He nodded when Deet agreed that the plan of action was a good one and then paused a little at the question, "Mmmmm, we don't know yet. We're going to be surprised."

The small girl's smile faltered just a little as she saw Leo be disappointed. She tilted her head a bit from side to side, "Hummm...I think'th maybe we could make some little people? You ha'th clay? Mebbe some handkerchief'th?" Miranda was not one to be set back by gum and the lack of dolls, "We can u'th'e the action figure'th too! At lea'th't the one'th without gum..."

"Ah. Well, hopefully they'll be a good kid. Ya did a good job with Miranda, so I don't think you need to worry too much." Deet said with a toothy smirk, relaxing and on a certain level enjoying the fact he didn't have to even acknowledge his customers for a little bit.

"Hey...Maybe we can be the king and queen?" Leo asked with a bit of a smile, thinking of how annoyed and frustrated his dad got trying to get the gum out. Clearly that wasn't going to work at all.
