It was grocery day. The most glorious day of days, in which food was bought in mass quantities, then lugged up to his apartment to be devoured later. Valeri was using his shopping cart to help him around the store instead of his cane. Currently the cane was in the hands of his chubby little daughter who was following faithfully behind her guardian looking up at him adoringly through her sunglasses from under the brim of her large hat. She was making sure to stay nearby like she promised him walking with quick waddling steps to keep up with him, her tail lightly dragging against the floor as she walked along.

Miranda carried her Papi's cane in a cradled position which kept the bottom part JUST above the floor but the top part was bound to knock into things, which just now happened as she wasn't watching how close she was walking to a display shelf of crackers and knocked a few of them to the ground. The small rat-girl uttered a soft gasp and almost bumped into the back of Valeri's leg because had stopped suddenly to gaze back and make sure his daughter was alright.

The small rat-featured girl peered mournfully up at her guardian, buckteeth gently nibbling at her lower lip in a fit of nerves at what would come out of his mouth as his expression was too neutral for her to read for a moment until he broke into a gentle smile which made her relax.

"Gotta be more careful, sweetheart," he limped a bit away from his cart and gestured to the fallen boxes before them, "help me pick them up?"

Miranda sniffed a little and moved, cane still in her arms, and clumsily started to pick up the boxes and hand them up to her Papi.

"Milk?"

"White and Chocolate!"

"Cereal?"

"Check!"

"Noodles?"

"Umm...No sir!"

"Alright then, to the noodle section!" Deet said, pointing for dramatic effect as Leo giggled, riding in the already pretty full basket. Deet, a large cat-man who tended to over eat any way, along with his son who came from a speicies famous for over-eating in the first place, had both began to love grocery day as a day for bonding and stocking up on plenty of food ranging from absolute drech (which was mostly meant for Deet) to actual food (mostly meant for Leo).

As they turned the corner, Deet saw a small, rather chunky rat-girl and a strange (coming from a rather conservative Catman, that is) man with purple hair and glasses. Ah well, at least he didn't have incredibly long hair and demon wings on top of angel wings with sparkles floating around him. Deet was NEVER fond of those people.

"Ah, need any help?"

He was actually thankful when someone asked him to help. Green eyes flicked toward the cat-man and his son and gave them a brief smile and nod, "If you could help out my daughter while I lean on the cart to get some weight off my legs, that'd be great," the pain was shooting up his legs and only got worse the more weight he dared to put on it.

Miranda dropped the box she was moving to hand to her father and guiltily handed the man his cane with wide eyes, "Take your'th s'th'tick, Papi," she said hoping that would make it better. Val limped forward a bit to grasp the handle of the cane and took it from her.

"Thank you, now help the nice people put the boxes up," Valeri said as he moved to put the cane against the ground so he could use it to lean on.

The rat-girl nodded obediently looking from her father to the strangers and began to pick up the boxers, the shelf, though she managed to knock the boxes off of it with a cane, was just a little too high for her so she looked from the smaller boy to the larger cat-man with uncertainty, who should she hand her current box of crackers to? When in doubt she toddled over to Deet and offered the box up at him with hopeful eyes.

Deet looked down, smiling warmly at the tiny rat girl. Awww, she was adorable! Deet noticed, however, she was built an awful lot like him. He couldn't help but wonder if she just had a love of food like he did, or perhaps some thing was wrong...? Regardless, he needed to focus on cleaning! He lifted up his own son out of the cart, putting him on the linoleum floor so he could help out as well.

Leo looked over at the girl, smiling shyly. She was new! New people were neat! Unless they were Stella. Then they were just...horrifying. But she didn't even resemble Stella! In fact, she was the opposite color! He looked over her ears, seeing that she had to be a...Mouse! Like that one book his Dad read to him, where that kid gave one a cookie! Though she didn't seem like an "intolerable mooch" like his Dad called the mouse in the story.

"Ahh, thank you, little one." Deet said with a broad smile, being sure not to show his fangs. They would probably give the poor little dear nightmares! Lord knows how it never seemed to scare Leo. He took the packages in her hand, putting them on the shelf that was just above her mousey head. Leo was gathering cracker boxes himself, though having a bit of a problem trying to balance all of them.

Valeri simply supervised to make sure his daughter wouldn't cause any undue trouble with the apparent father-and-son duo that were going to help her out. He adjusted his glasses a bit as he rested his leg for a moment, it really sucked to still be so badly hurt even now.

The rat-girl still held the box up even as she watched the cat-man put the small pig-like boy down on the ground where she could better look at him. Unlike him Miranda was everything but shy but for now she had a task that needed to be tended to and when he finally took the box she practically exploded from glee as her hopeful look turned into a cheerful grin as he moved to put the box on the shelf. Soon her eyes were on Leo again as she moved toward him to help.

"Why you tryin' t'grab'th th'oh many?" Miranda asked the boy as she picked up two of her own to offer to the great and mighty Cat-Man-That-Puts-Things-On-Shelves-For-Her-While-Papi-Rests.

Leo stopped, blushing, "Uh...Um...Uh...I-I w-wanted to help l-like my d-daddy..." the pig boy said shyly. Deet smiled broadly, picking up a few boxes before walking over to Leo, crouching down. How he was able to do so with such large girth was another question entirely.

"And ya did great, Leonard." Deet smiled warmly, patting the pig boy on the head as he took the boxes, putting them on the shelves. Deet loved how Leo seemed to try and go above-and-beyond with helping people. Made him less worried about him growing up to be a nut-job.

Leo smiled at his Dad before returning his attention back to Miranda, "Um...I-I'm Leo."

Miranda giggled lightly at Leo's stuttering words and blush. She couldn't help it! It seemed funny to her that someone would seem so shy about answering such a simple question. She beamed at him cheerfully and uttered a cheerful, "Okay'th!" and then continued to help clean up. When the cat-man praised his son she nodded her agreement, "Ye'th! Did good, you really'th did good~."

When Leo turned to introduce himself she blinked at him a little bit and repeated his name as if to help commit it to her own memory, "Lee-oh~. I'm Miranda," she pronounced her name carefully making sure her lisp didn't rear its ugly head and thus confuse the poor boy.

Valeri chuckled a bit as he watched the children interact, it certainly was fun to watch his adopted daughter meet and greet new children it certainly never was a boring time when she met new people, "I'm Valeri," he said more for the benefit of Leo's guardian, "what do you say to the nice gentlemen that helped you?"

Miranda gave a small pause for a moment and then uttered a cheerful, "Thank you'th~," in a cheerful tone, she seemed rather proud for remembering, despite the prompting.

"You're very welcome, little lady." Deet said happily, getting back to his feet, brushing some imaginary spots off his pants once he was completely on his feet. "My name is Deet Horne. And this little guy is my son, Leo." the cat-man knew he didn't need to introduce his son to the man with the cane, but it seemed like the proper thing to do.

"N-Nice to meet you..." Leo said, knowing thats what you were supposed to say when you met some one. Except for Stella. In which case you should just run away as fast as you can and hide. Scary cat girl was scary.

Miranda looked at the cat man as he called out his own name and pointed at him, "Mees'thur Dee'th! Plea'th'd to mee'th you'th an' Lee-oh," she said mimicking Leo a bit. Valeri smiled lightly at his daughter as he straightened up and moved to is cart as he glanced at Deet and his son.

"You two want to finish up shopping with us or something?" Valeri offered quietly. "Meb'be we could go to a lunch after or something," he didn't feel too strange inviting a stranger and his son to a lunch plus it almost looked like Miranda wanted to continue poking at her new friend 'Lee-oh'.

The chubby ratgirl moved to join her father after spending a good long moment of unabashedly staring at Leo, Papi was moving that meant she had to move, too. She reached up and grabbed the tail end of the purple haired man's shirt. "Yeh'th we play'th af'er lunch? Plea'th?" Tugtugtug at the shirt and tossed a pleading look over at Deet and Leo.

Had Miranda asked Deet to kill the next person they saw, Deet would be a wanted criminal with a death on his hands and a body to hide. She really was an adorable little girl, and her little lisp made every thing she said about ten times more adorable, "Heh heh, Lunch sounds like a great idea. I'm a little peckish myself," Deet said, patting a hand against his girth, "And I'm fine with Leo spending a little time with Miranda afterwards, if that is fine with you, Valeri." Deet wasn't going to question why the man had a rather feminine name, really. His own name sounded like a sound effect.

Leo smiled broadly at Deet as he agreed to let him play with the large rat-girl after lunch. This was exciting, he was going to get to know this girl with pretty red eyes! Yay! He oinked happily, and Deet was pretty sure he caught diabetes from these two toddlers.

"So, we were about to pick up some dry pasta ourselves...Ah, here we go." Deet said, strutting over and picking up a few (dozen) boxes, placing them into the cart. The cart itself was rather strange, and apart from the empty spot where Leo was sitting it was filled to maximum capacity and then some.

Not like the purple haired man would have had a ready answer other than the fact that his mother was a bit of a fruitloop. He nodded to the taller man and smiled a bit and then picked a couple of things off the shelves for himself and Miranda. To be sure the load in Valeri and Miranda's cart was considerably less than that in Deet and Leo's cart. Soon they were at the checkout counter, the crippled man told the young cashier that he would require the groceries to be delivered and the address the items needed to appear at since he didn't drive a car anyways and besides he was about to go out for lunch with a strange cat-man and his son with his daughter. There was nothing unusual or sudden about that.

Soon they made their way to a restaurant called "Spanky's" for lunch.

It was located on a random street in Durem just one of those random places that opened and was there to either stay or go as time and funds of the people running the establishment allowed it. It was a simple place that sold submarine sandwiches, pizza, and other simple fare.

Valeri opened the door into the restaurant to allow Leo, Miranda, and Deet first entry, "Here we are," he announced cheerfully as he leaned on his cane carefully.

Miranda entered first with a small cheerful hum to her voice, this place smelt nice and the lights weren't too bright!

Leo followed in after Miranda, smiling happily. He was looking forward to today, yes he was! Miranda was nice, and wasn't even remotely scary! Plus her Daddy had a cool stick-thing for walking. That made her more awesome by association!

Deet seemed to be in good spirits, himself. He also had his groceries shipped, an unsurprisingly his order was slightly more expensive than Valeri's, perhaps even costing more than Valeri's groceries in total. The large cat-creature followed behind, making sure (1) both the kids were in front of them and (2) if some one dared touch his son or the adorable rat girl, they would be quite easy to grab and smash into tiny bite-sized little chunks of meat and bone.

"Ah, good choice." Deet said, watching the little ones go in before following, holding the door open from the inside to help his new acquaintance enter with little problem.

"Thanks, it seemed like a good idea," Valeri said with a small nod as he moved away from the door when Deet moved to hold the door open for him in turn easily slipping past the larger cat-man with a small nod and a quickly said, "'preciated."

Miranda was already looking for a place to sit and it didn't take her long before she gently grabbed for Leo's hand to grab his attention, "There'th!" the small girl announced happily to her new friend. She then began to move toward the place she had pointed out to her friend, leaving her father to make her dining decisions.

It wasn't like one of those places that didn't have a fancy hostess to seat you nor did you have a menu to hold in your hands. Instead you had to go to the counter and squint toward the back at a sign that was part written in chalk and part poster and make a decision from there. After a moment he had gotten a 'kids meal' style sandwich meal for his daughter, the sandwich mostly of vegetables, light bits of meat, and healthy bread. For himself Valeri ordered a rather large sandwich showing that despite his lean size he was a rather good eater. Then the lean man paid for the meals and then stood off to the side so Deet could order for himself and his charge. Valeri was also careful to keep an eye on Miranda and Leo when he was not preoccupied. Miranda had, unknowingly, chosen the prime location for it was easy for Val to stare directly at them and see where they were.

"O-Okay!" Leo said, being pulled along by Miranda with no protest. Not that he really minded, and Leo also never seemed to protest to any thing. Except to Brocolli, that was. He looked around the restaurant, almost over-whelmed but at least he knew where his dad was, and he had a friend with him! Yay friends! He wished Mr. Scruffles was here, too. He loved sandwiches! Well, PB&J at least.

Once inside, Deet kept an eye on the two squirts as they grabbed a rather good location. Good job, Son. Perfect spot, right in the sunlight no less! Deet bought two sandwiches, just a light foot-long Pastrami on Rye for himself, and a Veggie Lovers kid's meal for his vegetarian son. Some one at D-Corp must have had a sick sense of humor, giving a carnivore a strictly herbivore son.

"Daddy!" Leo waved over to Deet, getting his attention as he walked over.

"Heh heh, I see you I see you..." Deet chuckled as he took a seat, giving his son the sandwich and cookie combo, along with the cookie that came with Deet's meal. Getting a good seat got you a reward.

"So, Val," Deet said, taking a bite of his footlong, "What you do for a living?" Deet asked, trying to make small-talk.

After everything was gathered Valeri limped after the larger man and chuckled a bit at the exuberant sounding voice of Leo. Val had managed to wrangle a tray out of the people so he could carry everything himself so he could set Miranda's meal before her complete with juice box. He then moved to his own seat, laid out his meal, and then set the tray aside with a small hum as he settled leaning his cane against the table and began to unwrap and eat his sandwich and only gave a pause at Deet's question, "Well, I am a graphic artist," he said openly with a small nod, "I used to write, might go back into writing again, just because." Despite the badness that had occurred he still missed writing, he had enjoyed it.

Miranda had begun to eat at her own meal with a happy sound and a bit of a swish from the tip of her tail as she began to enjoy her sandwich. In between bites she glanced over at Leo, "Wa'th you'r'th favorit'th food?" she asked curiously. There was nothing more to do other than to eat and get to know her newest friend.
