Biography:
Cedar was born and raised on the Rayne family farm. Her parents both non magical humans, Ash and Maple, were beyond shocked to find that their daughter had magical powers. Being non magical themselves they never were able to help Cedar’s magic grow. Cedar started hearing the voices of the trees and land when she was still a toddler. At first it scared her but it didn’t take too long for her to warm up to the voices.
Her life was a happy one her parents took very good care of her and even though they were both very different people they wanted Cedar to experience both of their talents. Firstly was her mother, Maple was a well known cook. She always won in the baking competitions and took great joy in her cooking. So at a young age she would help her mother bake and cook. And soon she was a talented assistant to her mother in the kitchen. Around that same time Cedar was deemed to be old enough to help around the farm. Nothing too strenuous but she was taught to milk cows and get the eggs from the hens. She would tell her father what the crops would need and soon enough the farm was flourishing in a way it never had.
But it had also become very apparent that Cedar most then likely would not be able to take over the farm the way they had planned. Had she been non magical Ash and Maple would have found her a suitable husband who would run the farm. But because she was a magic user they would have to send her to the Makai Academy. So Ash and Maple decided to start trying for another child. It would be ideal for them to have a son to carry the name… Not that they loved their daughter any less, but daughters didn’t offer the same and magical daughters in their non magic world even less.
Cedar’s daily life was pretty typical helping around the home and farm. She was a happy girl now around the age of 10. When her parents finally conceived after a couple years of trying she was very happy. She was now old enough to understand the position she was in and the one she had put her parents in by have this magic. But Cedar loved her magic. She had always felt like she could do so much more than just listening to the voices of nature but wouldn’t learn until she went to school.
The year went by and Cedar’s mother gave birth to Ash Jr. This was everything her parents wanted! Cedar couldn’t be happier for them. However the joy and bliss of a ‘complete’ family didn’t last very long. Just after a year of Ash Jr’s birth he died in an accident. Her parents tried not to blame Cedar and it wasn’t directly her fault. But after Ash Jr. passed it was as if her parents hated her. He had fallen into the small stream and drowned. Cedars parents felt that Cedar should have known about this and should have somehow prevented it because of her magic. Family life was never same after that. Cedar felt as if she had become a burden to her parents with withdrew from them. They were never able to conceive again.
Cedar loved her little brother and was devastated by the loss as well. She wandered by she didn’t inherently know? Why didn’t the earth tell of her this? She hadn’t learned to control her magic so she wasn’t able to hear. It truly wasn’t anyone fault. But Cedar wondered why she had this power.
The years passed and with barely a good by Cedar left for school. School was a whole other world for her. She saw and experienced things she otherwise never would have. She learned to control her magic and actually communicate with the plants and trees. But it wasn’t until she started private lessons with a Druid named Emrys that she realized the extant of her magic. The teachers realized that she held something in her that they hadn’t seen in a very long time. But it wasn’t something they could easily teach either. So they called in Emrys. One of the very few Druids that offered assistance outside of the Enclaves to those with Nature based magic.
Cedar didn’t like Emrys at first. He was a hard teacher and didn’t really seem connect with her. He was the one that told her of her magic. Part of her soul would leave her body, putting her into a trace and she would then be able to manipulate nature based things. Living things like trees and bushes would be much easier then something like rocks. But as she grew stronger she’d be able to create golems and move multiple trees. However the downside to this was that her body was left vulnerable. If her body was moved to far from its original location she might not be able to find her body again becoming trapped and eventually dying. Or being awoken from her trance, she risked having her soul split which would be agonizing. Wounds not healing when they should to unrelated wounds manifesting physically.
Cedar hated this magic and Emrys had forced to use it. But it wasn’t easy it took long time for Cedar to come to trust Emrys before she could perform the magic. And it was because of all this that they still have a lasting relationship. When her parents turned their back on her Emrys opened his arms. And thanks to him Cedar finished school in about 3 ½ years. Emrys became her confidant and very close friend. When she finally returned to the farm father had passed away shortly before from a heart attack and her mother had pneumonia. The winter that year was harsh in different ways.
With the farm now hers the farm hands that had worked there for many years looking to her. Cedar decided to leave the farm in their hands, keeping the family name and she would sell the produce and baked goods at a shop in Makai. Just after purchasing the shop she attended the Halloween Ball where she met Lea, Kalypso and Xerxes. They have since become her very good friends. Lea even works at her shop now.
