The sun hadn't risen just yet, Cedar had already dressed, and was quietly closing the door as she stepped out onto the porch of the manor/farm house. The boards creaked under her weight, and she stepped down the stairs. She took in a deep breath and headed off into the woods.
Sure it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but her magic would protect her, and she would have enough warning of danger from the trees anyways. She walked quietly, listening to what they had to see, she stopped to speak with a couple rocks, but they didn't often have to much to say, they were rather pessimistic things.
She was heading in the direction of the Academy, without really know it. And it was so earlier of course all the students and most of the staff would be asleep. She didn't often get to travel so deep into the forest, but it was still good to make her appearances since she heard about them. After traveling for a good distance, she had taken a seat on a rock, and listened to the stories the plants had to tell her.

Phil was up early; then again that wasn't a surprising occurrence considering he was always up early. Like every other day he had been quiet, quick to dress and silently leave the house to attend to his early morning duties. Undoubtedly, anyone would thing he was up to some sort of shady business, after all what kind of person roams the streets at four o' clock in the morning? Then again, Phil didn't look quite suspicious either, in his white attire and pair of bright blue eyes shining brilliantly behind his set of transparent lenses.
It was a sad, menial reality, that some plants could only be tended to and harvested at such ungodly hours. If one messed with their timing just a little the potency of the medicine decreased drastically, if it weren't ruined on the spot. In any case, if one didn't know him for what he were, which was the Pharmacist at the academy town of Makai, they could still mistake him for some strange weirdo at least. Phil would most likely like to avoid that, but in the off case it did happen he would just smile, laugh, shrug it off and apologize as it was proper.
On that particular day he wasn't planning to do any harvesting but he had brought his flickblade and pruning hook along in case he found any plant that needed just this little bit of extra help. It was almost the season, after all, that the heat began to subside and the excess weight of many trees was eventually shed. Wandering through the forest paths that he had become so very accustomed to during the last few years he slowly entered into his own rhythm and dedicated himself entirely to his work.

Autumn hued eyes opened, as she heard the snap of a twig. The voices from the trees and plants hushed. But told her it was no one to fear. That it was someone that frequented the area for the plant life. He took care of them. And voices traveled that she hadn't heard before. She wasn't able to befriend all the plants. Some where only awake when it was to late for her. But those particular plants were happy to see this other person.
Cedar shifted on her rock, and she peered through the trees to catch sight of the white clothing. She slid off the rock and quietly pranced forward to peer at him from behind a tree. He seemed to be only a little older then she, and he seemed to glow in the in the radiance that the not yet risen sun was putting out. She watched him, now growing curious about what he would be doing out here.

Philemon loved the plantlife. He often had little to no luck with animals -his own Alchemia had turned out to be a mean little monster out to get him on his bad days- but the plants were a different issue. He didn't really bring up flowers for decoration or anything of the short but he had his number of precious plants that he used as his source for all sorts of valuable ingredients. And what he didn't grow he collected. The forest plantlife was extraordinary in and on its own as it managed to thrive almost on its own and it forever had even before man had set foot in their precious green wonderland.
Phil didn't have power over the plants. He couldn't communicate with them in any sense. All he was ever able to do was care for them in the typical sense of the word. They couldn't really talk to him like they could with certain nature witches and he wasn't sure they could hear even though he often babbled away nonsense at them. He had known there was someone at his tail; after all all the hide and seek with his teacher he had learned to tell the presence of others he couldn't see even if he still wasn't really good at pinpointing seeing how he had no luck like that.
Preparing himself to raise a protective barrier if it was someone or something that would assault him he turned around, spying his immediate surroundings and almost missing the girl that was half-hidden behind a tree. Her clothing, almost like camouflage, concealing her from his eyes at first. He could never be too careful though and so he didn't move any closer for the time's being instead he tried his best to smile and wave a hand in greeting. "Good morning?" there was a hint of a question in his voice even though he hadn't meant for it to be there.

She watched him move, not realizing he felt her presence. When the male spoke Cedar gasped. She blushed slightly, it was rude to spy... She shied back some, and then gave a small smile of her own. "Ah... yes. Good morning..." She felt panicked like she had done something wrong, but he seemed friendly. Rather then getting angry with her. He seemed to be just as unsure about her, as she was of him.
She took a step out from behind the tree; "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to spy. I just wasn't expecting anyone else to be around this early." She rocked back and forth a couple times before she raised her hand, and waved toward the plants in an off handed manner. "They speak highly of you."
The forest was quiet, what most would find, 'to quiet'. But For Cedar, it was never quiet. And she wouldn't have it any other way. She could be found often in the areas that people would go to to get away from the noise. Simply to hear what the wind had to say. And that's part of the reason she loved the farm. And as she let her Autumn hued eyes that were blended like opal, she noticed more of his outfit. It was brilliantly white. He wasn't looking to blend in at all, and it wasn't even dirty. He must have known the paths well. "You don't really look like you belong in the woods."

Phil beamed, happy, when he had his greeting returned and he nodded his head to assure the girl that it was okay. He hadn't been insulted, simply surprised. After all it wasn't often that he'd meet people as early -even if it was becoming a habit as of lately. And then he found himself waving his hands frantically, "It's okay, it's okay~" he made haste to let her know he didn't mind. It was only natural to be weirded out by a stranger male in the woods, after all. "As a matter of fact I rarely meet anyone this early myself even though I'm so often around." he shrugged then followed the females wave to the plants. So she could hear them? That was nice... he knew of the voices the plants had and he had met another once before that had a closer bond to them. As a witchling at the time it was one thing that made him wonder. "Gee, I'm flattered." he scratched the back of his neck nodding a little again. "I really don't do much..."
Phil smiled at the girl's final remark about him not belonging in the woods. It was alright, in a sense, because she was right. He wasn't specifically tied with the woods, he didn't have no direct connection to it, even if he did, on an entirely different level "Well... I do suppose you are right about that. I don't belong in the woods." he stressed the appropriate word to get his message through. It was a hard concept for most people to understand; the place to which he belonged. "I drank from the lifeblood of life itself," his smile turned quiet as he recalled the trial at the Grave of Fairies. "I belong where life is and the woods are living, breathing things." he explained. "In essence, they aren't that different from animals and people." he leaned against the trunk of the tree and shrugged, a little awkward.

"Oh.. No, I'm sorry!" She stumbled out, taking a step forward. "I didn't mean it like that!" She pulled her hands to her mouth and felt really like she had offended him this time. She listened to what he said, and obviously she agreed. Her soul lived within some of the plant life. But she meant... He wasn't dressed for being in the woods. She made a meek sound, and when he had finished, her eyes stared right at him. "Drank from the lifeblood of life...? Wow... And where I come from, everyone thinks I'm intense." She laughed. She hadn't used her power since she had graduated the Academy. But knew it wouldn't last like that forever. But she felt better knowing that her soul was safe.
She was able to keep her farm land healthy listening to the wind. But since she had left the Academy, she rarely ran into others with powers. Both of her parents had no magic. Nor did anyone else around the farm. "What is your concentration?" She asked. Had he been in school with her, she was sure she would have heard of something so impressive. Nature wasn't to impressive... There were a lot of others variations. But she was certainly not the only one to be able to listen to the wind, and hear the voices.

Phil laughed quietly at the girl's sudden reaction. More and more people seemed to have this knack of misunderstanding him -or perhaps he was simply intimidatingly direct and honest that the thought they were doing something wrong? In any case he really didn't mean to upset the poor girl and so he tried to do his best, smiling and keeping an open demeanor to explain, in a way, that he didn't really mind that kind of thing. "It's alright, alright~ Don't worry." he nodded his head. People trusted less nowadays, they told more lies; it was an inevitable part of reality and he had witnessed it happening so often it broke his heart. It was this reality he sought to change so much, this reality that he wanted to erase at all costs. A smile still playing in his lips he sighed lightly and nodded his head. "It's not that intense, really~" he exclaimed. So far he had seen people with amazing powers and more often than not he had found himself paling in comparison. "And I'm sure that you are as intense as people claim to be." he laughed, offering a small bow of the head.
When asked about his concentration Phil flinched, for just a second. He usually avoided the subject when asked, if nothing because it caused a source of constant worry for those around him even when Phil would repeatedly explain that because of his power it was alright anyway. A deeper sigh escaped him and he shifted his eyes away for a few moments before returning them to the girl. "You could say I'm something like a guardian. I heal, shield and protect by any means possible." half a truth didn't make a lie after all. "I'm a pharmacist by trade, so it actually kind of works together, don't you think?" he shrugged at his small question and nodded. "How about you? You certainly look like a person who does belong here..."

Cedar wasn't one to question to much. She often would take the word of others that seemed, well trust worthy. And this boy certainly didn't give off any reason. But he didn't seem to want to talk to much about his concentration. Cedar, listened thoughtfully, and was caught by his body language. He was uncomfortable, but tat sense had shifted when the focus was back on her.
"Well that's because I do. My soul is tied with nature. I can hear the voices of plants, and trees, and other 'living' things, but not animals. That's my most commonly seen, because its not something I can turn on and off. " Cedar smiled as she looked around. But she had grown use too it, nature was her friend. Probably one of her few friends.
"But there is another side to my magic." She said a little more begrudgingly. "I haven't used it since I was in the academy, but since my soul is connected with nature, I'm able to send it to something I would like to manipulate. Like, a tree. And I can then control the tree. But I don't like to use it because it leaves my body vulnerable, and to many issues to make it worth it I think. If I'm disturbed because my soul returns, my soul can tear, and well... I think you get the picture." She laughed lightly. "I spent a lot of time in school working on it, after hours training and everything." She stared off, remembering her days at the Academy.
"But regardless... I'm sorry I rambled! So you harvest the plants for medicines, and other things?"

Phil listened closely at what Cedar had to say, trying his best to grasp the delicate workings of her magical concentration. Plant control and nature communication sounded like such an amazing gift to have. He could only ever influence their growth and growth rate if he tried and that was only after many long, arduous hours and days and months of work. "I think it's a beautiful gift." Phil nodded his head to underline his softly spoken words as his smile returned after his thoughtful contemplation. "So what do they tell you when they speak?" he asked, curious while looking up at her. He wasn't exactly sure what kind of topics a plant might be interested at, after all. Was it possible they had personalities just like animals and human beings? Considering they seem to be capable of speech it didn't seem like such a far-fetched assumption...
Phil nodded at the explanation on Cedar's other power. He wasn't exactly how it could happen and the mere thought of a soul being torn in half was pretty terrifying but his mind was already working on solutions as he sat there. "Is there not a way to bypass those issues or secure the safe return on the soul's journey? If used in collaboration with other magic, for example, a partner perhaps? It shouldn't be as difficult, I think..." teamwork was a crucial aspect in many things after all. He couldn't see why it couldn't be applied there.
"No need to apologize." Phil laughed again. "It's been a while since I've had such a pleasant early-morning talk." he admitted with a small shrug. "However, to answer your question, yes. I harvest plants for medicinal purposes mostly. I do make tonic herbal teas sometimes but my expertise is mainly healing and relieving potions." he scratched his forehead a little as if trying to remember something more that he might have to add. "I suppose that's it, yes." he ended up chuckling, awkward. "I'm a very simple person, I guess..."

Cedar walked around one of the trees in the area looking it over while he talked. She let her eyes periodically glance over at him. Her hand touching it's trunk. "Well... They talk about all kinds of things. Like, this one time... Someone was in a tree that was scary my cows. They told me where the person was so I could stop them. Other times, just how the season is going for them. " She tapped her cheek lightly and looked over at him.
"Team work?" She stopped pacing and considered it. "Well... To be honest, I never really had someone I trusted enough. When we dueled in school And I was able to use my full power, I normally created a natural barrier for my body. But I guess if the right person with the right power..." She sighed lightly. "Though anyone could probably help. My body just needs to be undisturbed. Who knows though... Maybe one day." She laugh a bit, and then fell silent when he seemed to be really thinking hard on the matter.
"Well simple isn't a bad thing either. Complicated is tiring." She walked over to him, and she pulled her dress hem under her legs, as she squatted down. "You seem to have your life together. That's something to be admired I think."

Phil assessed the information, wondering how exactly it would feel if he could listen to the plants. Would they beg him not to cut them when the time came? Would they bother him with their needs and wants? Then again, plant life didn't seem like the naggy kind of thing so he wouldn't say such a thing was possible. "So they essentially even have personalities?" it was a whole new take for him, this entire business. Part of him was relieved he couldn't listen to them though, perhaps it would obstruct his work if he became overly attached. Could a person fall in love with a a flower or tree? Deeming it to bizarre a subject to contemplate about he sighed and shrugged. Perhaps, perhaps not.
Then he lowered his eyes. How sad was it to go for so long without being able to trust anyone? People were always like that. Going about their lives holding no trust for the person next to them. But wasn't that just sad? There was nothing wrong about anyone in the end. Nothing Phil could see. "I understand." he nodded, not falling victim to his impulses to speak before thinking for a change. "I guess it can't be helped. I suppose... it just seems alien to me. All I've been doing in my life has been basically... trusting blindly. You can't possibly expect to be trusted if you don't take trust in first, I guess, so..." he let his voice fade out and brought himself to shrug. It was nothing but the truth after all.
"Complicated is all there is..." that one time he went and said it, though. He couldn't help but be clumsy with his words sometimes, just speaking things as they were. However soft and gentle he was still managing to come off as rude or intimidating some times because of it... and he never meant to hurt anyone's feelings. "...Together... seems like talking extremely big as things are right now." he was certain that Cedar's point of view was the one most people saw him from and in the end, sure, it was okay, Phil didn't mind. But sometimes, just sometimes he felt so very tired, like there was an impossible weight dragging him down and he was powerless to fight against it. But he pulled through; in the end that was all he could do.

Cedar stayed quite as she listened, she wasn't close minded by any means. She understood what he said, and she agreed with him. You can't expect trust, without giving it. But there was something she just couldn't get over. Maybe it was a fear of death? If she trusted someone and had to rely on them while she used her power, it meant that someone else was in charge of her fate. And it was something she never grew to accept. Least not yet. She trusted others in another way... With her feelings, friendship things like that. But her life, her soul...
She quietly watched the plants he was tending too, and she reached a hand out to lightly stroke one, it looked as if the flower reached for the tips of her fingers. "Well... Yes. But in the same way, they're somewhat mindless. They don't feel pain. And some even want to be picked, wanting to fulfill something greater then themselves." She smiled, a sadness settled in her eyes. Cedar wasn't a sad person, but things reminded her of sad times... Her parents left the farm, and suddenly they seemed to have aged years in a matter of days. Things were changing.
"Is that so?" She asked her finger tip tracing the pedals of the flower. "Shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Have something big going on in your life?" She asked him, her olive eyes glancing over at him. She wasn't be belittling him, it was true, like her, she could hear nature, and has a child... She was tortured by it. As she aged, she took on the responsibility. Some people just had those roles in life.

Phil was fearless; not literally, but he didn't as much as bat an eye in the face of danger. Pain did little to slow him down, threats fell to deaf ears and attempts to scar his beliefs faced fierce opposition by intense willpower and an iron wall of resolve he had built brick by brick through the last few years. He had said so before but if he were to be judged, if he were to be tried and prosecuted about all he believed in then so be it. If they wanted to strike him down they were all more than welcome to try, but his power was to protect, himself as well as others by all means possible and if that meant giving up his life he'd gladly do that. He had nothing to lose, after all.
"Eh? Well..." Phil smiled a little, crouching down to study the plants a little closer, slender fingertips running over the leaves' undersides trying to feel the soft, familiar texture. "...I suppose I can relate to that, if only a little." not minding to sacrifice themselves as long as they were of some help to someone, as long as they made someone happy it was alright, right? He found himself sighing before letting his knees give out under him so he could sit on them.
He propped his head on one hand resting against a knee and shrugged a little. "In the collective 'life' of the world there's always something big going on..." he noted, a ghost of a smile curving the corner of his lip. "Our lives are small and insignificant in comparison, so saying something 'big' is going on is an overstatement." he went on, bringing a hand up to fix his glasses better on the bridge of his nose. "People are unable to do anything as units but as long as they do something it drips like dew on the surface of a lake and that initiates a wave. It is that wave that affects other people in turn that will too become droplets until their will collectively grows into something large enough to give a chance for change to blossom." he sighed, bringing his hand to rub at the back of his neck, uncomfortably. "That probably makes little to no sense, though..." he admitted, lowering his eyes to the ground.

Cedar smiled at him stretching out and she tucked her arms behind her back. "The ripple effect." Cedar looked down at him. "It make sense, I do get it." Cedar wasn't as worldly as Phil was in that sense. She saw herself, the people around her and the pant life. She didn't have magic, or a responsibility beyond that. She can understand it, but unlike Phil, it only a thought.
With the chirping of the bird Cedar glanced up. "I should probably get back to the farm." She mused aloud. "I didn't catch your name, I'm Cedar."
