A man's figure blocked the light spilling from the door of an open shop. He paused a moment to light his lengthy, clay pipe, and then proceeded onto the cobblestone street, his footsteps one of the few sounds echoing in the darkened road. Echo, echo....and a chilled wind. The cherry coal in the man's pipe extinguished, as did the lamps in the street. There was a clamber of footsteps in the shadows, a thud, a scream.....and the wind stopped. Everything fell into silence, including the beat of the man's heart.
This was just one of the many recent murders that had begun to happen in the Hallow. Bodies began to turn up, their expressions blank, and barely a bruise upon them to indicate what had happened. They always seemed as if their very soul had been sucked out of them. Suspicion rose among the people. There were Majins in their presence, sucking the magic out of their human hearts. Neighbors and students began to raise suspicions about each other, every person fearing that he or she would be next, fearing that those around them would make a go for their lives. Such was the situation these days, even as the Hallow's Eve Ball drew closer.
[[ Objective ]] This chapter takes places over several days in the roleplay. Those who are active will be drawn from in the end for a couple different item prizes, including a custom scythe/wing set / familiar item that they can reimburse when they grow to stage 3.
Characters must face suspicion between each other. Who is Majin, who is a Witch Eater? Who is really responsible for the recent murders where witches lost their magic and life? Meanwhile, they still must be together and find partner's for the Hallow's Even Ball, which is a large event held in Lumena.
Consider this an open RP that crosses paths with other ORP. You do not have to be in the same area as everyone else. :> Be creative and find a good comfort zone.

Makai Royal Academy: Dining Hall.
Ruria liked the morbid. She liked the morose. She loved the spooky. However, she did not one bit like the shroud of fear and accusation which had settled upon herself and the other students, teachers...citizens. It spread from rumors and whispers, much like how the black plague spread from scampering rats who filtered out of their sewers. She watched as people grouped together, targeting others as those they should 'stay away from by all means possible', because surely, that person was a Majin, and surely, that person intended to consume their magic, their life.
The girl sat alone on one of the many long tables that filled the dining hall, mindlessly stirring a chocolate-strawberry pudding that lay in front of her in a goblet. She had been here quite some time now, but had not successfully made any friends yet. Reflecting on this, a sudden jolt tingled down her spine as she became aware of a sudden realization. Did her peers think she was a Majin? Ridiculous. Ludicrous. Nonsensical absurdity! What was there truly to be afraid of, anyways? If people don't want to be murdered in their youth, then perhaps they ought to put a little more focus on their abilities! She wasn't afraid. Not afraid, no.... not of the heart-stealing murderer who was gallivanting out there somewhere. She was afraid of something, though.....but what, she couldn't quite put her fingertip on it.
"My pudding....is gone." she mumbled to herself, realizing she had subconsciously devoured the confection without truly enjoying the taste, while caught in her thoughts. Fiddlesticks.

Makai Royal Academy: Dining Hall.
Rajih had already graduated from the academy, pleased to have passed the Grave of Fairies trial. Though he was a Majin, he had come far in his quest to conquering the darker side of himself. He had made friends, Phil and Theo, regardless that Theo was more of a constant pain in his a**. No he'd put Theo under the category of Rival instead of friends instead. He had met Kiarei, the pretty white wold Mononoke and Riba, a also very sweet and charming witchling like himself. Or what was himself.
He didn't don the normal Makai academy uniform now, and instead wore a simple sweater under a hoodie jacket. His hands we're tucked into his jeans as he strolled through the dining hall, a place he tended to avoid due to the massive amounts of witches around.
He was a caustious majin after all, and with the threat of one on the rampage, students hadn't held back on turning on each other. If he wasn't careful, it would be just like what happened with his old home. Shaking his head as his walked past a group of students, he cringed as they all looked at him, they couldn't have discovered him already....One smiled instead and waved their hand, the students went back to whatever they were doing.
But the effect on Rajih was different. While waiting for his graduation to a witch, he needed to lay as low as he could. He needed Phil or another one of the ones who knew what he was to help him.
Lost and not really paying attention as he grabbed food, he sat at one of the more empty tables, next to a pink haired witchling before looking over at her. His green eyes hooded as he raised an eyebrow at her, Was she talking to him? But he had just sat down...not even next to her. No no, She was talking to herself and the empty cup of said pudding which made Rajih smile.
"Here you go?" Rajih pushed his treat over to her before smiling at her, "Not a big fan of pudding, I think that's White chocolate Raspberry if you like that?" He nudge the cup over to her more, "What's you name? I'm Rajih."

Moonfall: Theo's home
Theofratus frowned as he unlocked the door, closing it behind him as he stepped into the small house he called home. The news was not very good, the prejudice against the majin growing. Theo himself would have been out there, railing against the majin and demanding that they be destroyed but he was older now, and hopefully a tad wiser. Majin were still people, with feelings and emotions. They loved and hated, cried and laughed, had hopes and dreams. They weren't all that different from the rest of them. The only difference was that they needed someone to be their source of energy. And always, always, it was more of an involutary thing then something deliberate. He knew that now.
But on the other hand, there were those majin who did go after another deliberately. There were majin who were merely waiting for the right opportunity to consume a witch's heart and become a witch eater. And it was something Theo knew too well. A bitter smile crossed his face as he went to get himself a glass of water, throwing off his cloak in the process. Maybe later he would have time to drop by and see Kyu or Phil, but there were other things to do. The Hallow's Eve ball was coming up in a few days, so maybe he would go and stay with Phil for a few days. After all, he missed seeing his twin. They had always been close, and of late Theo had been too busy to see him.
Plans decided, Theo decided to settle down on his couch for a while to see how things would play out. The suspicion in the air was palpable, and everything felt like a volcano biding its time. No doubt everything would blow up in their faces soon. Very, very soon. He could feel it."I wonder how it'll turn out." He murmured, sipping his water as he sat there, his mind turning the situation over.

Salem loved Hallow's Eve, even though it was such a dreadfully human affair, full of parties and sweets and dancing. The old ways that underscored it, the black old rituals it reeked of in the misty corners away from bright lights and the laughing children, Salem held a great love for those. They were very much a part of him, and not even he could resist playing into the festive spirit.
At least, most of the time this was the case.
Presently, he had far too much to think on to worry about his favored holiday. He found himself in his own sort of misty corner, obscured by the low-hanging smoke of many pipes that hung from the lips of the numerous patrons. A tall glass of something foul and strong-looking sat in front of him, but it acted as facade only, something to nurse and ward any inquisitive eyes away whilst he mused. Off in his own little world, as usual, so Salem had no desire to deal with people. Things were moving very rapidly and he needed time to adjust his agenda accordingly.
There were low whispers among the common-folk that witch eaters were on the prowl, and in large numbers, given the exceptional numbers that had begun to turn up with their Witch Hearts extracted. The season of fear melded, almost seamlessly, into a season of terror, from good-natured into very real. And a very real problem to Salem, with his endless schemes and his own basic thirst for magic, that he now needed to puzzle out. He could already feel the tension; he had no doubt humans would eventually turn upon all Majin in an understandable, instinctual attempt to protect themselves. His mind raced with possibilities, all the many men and women, man and majin alike, he'd met over the years, and who he might be able to assign responsibility to.
Presently, he had no idea what he'd do if he caught whoever was responsible, but said whoever was throwing large wrenches into his own machinations. He needed to find a short-term solution, as well, for feeding was becoming increasingly dangerous.
Salem gazed across the sea of rubbing shoulders and raucous, drunken calls, one eye glinting in the half-light, wrapped deep in his thoughts.

Cherry-colored eyes widened slightly, shifting towards the voice of Rajih and the scraping sound of his pudding sliding towards her on the wood of the table. Her quiet gaze shifted from his eyes to the pudding in front of her now. "How can anybody not enjoy a good pudding?" she dipped her spoon into the creamy confection, closing her mouth on it. Her cheeks warmed a little; it seemed sweet, delicious things had quite an effect on her. "Thank you~ .... Mmn, my name is Ruria. Ruria Letitia Lockewood."
I wonder if he suspects me of being a Majin. "You recently graduated, did you not? I..like to watch the trials. What kind of magic do you do?"

Moonfall: Shopping District/Menniadis household.Ophelia walked blindly through the crowded streets lit by colorful lights. Slight bags darkened the skin under her vivid eyes as she scanned her steps through the throng of people. As usual, she had no specific destination, but in recent days she had holed herself in her apartment, unwilling to face the outside world. There were more and more aggressive majin, consuming hearts at every turn. And even she was not immune to the suspicion. What if someone she knew was a majin? The thought had crossed her mind many times since the first rumors spread. What if they were involved with what was happening now. As a reaper, her duty would be to... Ophelia shook her head, as if it would send the thoughts back into some deep hole of her subconscious. They were her friends. She couldn't betray them like that. But still, she was torn between her loyalties. Stopping, the young reaper looked up at the starless sky, its depths dimmed by the lights from Moonfall. She dreaded her gut feeling, her instincts, and the sense that things would only get worse for her. Pulling her headphones up to her ears, she turned up the volume to drown out everything else and continued walking. Losing herself in her music, one of the few things that could send her thoughts to a calmer place, she didn't notice that she ended up at Phil's house until she stood in front of his door. She hesitated for a moment, wondering what brought her here. But his kindness meant that she at least had someone to talk to. Making up her mind, she knocked on the door gently.

Rajih grinned as the girl easily accepted his pudding before waving his hands. "Nah, I'm usually into sweet things but I found something sweeter to enjoy." He winked at her before tapping his chin, "And you looked so sad after eating your last one, how could I not give mine up?" He tapped the table with his finger as he took a small bite of his pile of food, currently unexplainable looking. His eyes widen at her name before smiling again. "Quite a mouthful for a name, Nice to meet you Ruria Letitia Lockewood." Rajih sihfted a little closer, "Yep a fairly new graduate though." He said into between mouthfuls before pushing his food away.
"Sorry I have a bad habit of eating and talking all at one time." He looked around at the students who only spared them a couple of glances before grinning at her, "I specialize in water and dark magics. Though I am quite endarmored to the water elemental, I have an uncanny ability summon both magics swirled together. I should..." Rajih focused on his palms, dark brooding green eyes as a black opal formed from the air, slowly water poured around it, swirling like it was a round jar being filled and the opal was in the center. His tongue stuck out a little as he shifted his hands and small swirls of dark circled the ball. "It takes me too much effort to do this though haha." He laughed as he held it out to her, the water sloshed around before never dropped from its invisible container. "What about yourself Ruria? Do you have something your studying?"

Lumena Castle Town, Unamed Tavern.
Graveyard wasn't particularly fond of the large cities but she had been called to Lumena by the Sages...Elders? Whatever they were that led the Ars Liliums, to protect the larger town from the threat of Witch eaters, whether they lived in the city or not. She sniffed at the letter in her hand before throwing it moodily in the satchel. Her familiar followed her closely, growling at strangers as she swiftly made her way through the streets.
The reason she was so moody? Because she hated to be called from her work to do something needless. She was indifferent to the struggle that seemed to affect Humans and Majin's alike, her stance was to aid relief to either as long as none bring harm to her. Her dreams did enough. And though she was the wisewoman of her tribe, even they had made summons calling them back to cocoon her in the nomadic safety of their tribe. Afraid that their precious heir would be caught by the murderous Witch eater..s? and they would lose one of the strongest Dream seers of the Ars Lilium rank. She scoffed, made annoyed sounds at strangers as she pulled the cloak tighter over her head. Rain begin to drizzle slowly, spreading a thin mist and wetness to add to the fear that pulsated through the air. It was like the rain added dread to fear, and people were reacting as such, their faces seemed so drawn in and guarded.
Sighing she stepped into the bar as the rain began to fall heavier and removed her cloak. Shaking the wet droplets from her ears and hair, she ignored the stares from the patrons who oogled the Mononoke before coming up to the bar.
"I will take a Spiced Apple tea please?" She smiled softly at the bartender who went on his way to making her drink before looking over her shoulder. Her sense's warned that one of the race of wishes was in here. Her eyes landed on the lone figure of a witch before she grabbed her tea and moved to the table.
"Good evening U-la-si-gi Sa-Quu(Dark one)." She tapped the chair next to him before smiling, "Do you mind if I join you for the evening U-na-li-i(friend)?"

It was an ugly night in an ugly part of town, and Rosel just wasn't feeling the game, for once. She sat sideways at a rough-hewn card table with four (ugly) men, each bordering on the precarious edge between tipsy and drunk. The one to her left kept darting giggling glances at her legs, which were purposefully not under the table and crossed at a jaunty angle. One heeled foot bounced occasionally to the jangling music, but only when she needed him to give away a tell.
The air was rank with suspicion. Well, it was rank with booze as well, but that wasn’t any surprise. But the suspicion, that rankled her a bit. It was hard to dupe people who came into the room already suspecting everyone in it. Beyond the tables, along the bar and the wall, the tension ran rife. Without some raucous game to keep them occupied, minds inevitably traveled to the latest bit of paranoia. Witch Eaters.
Rosel couldn’t help a twitch of a smile and heaved a dramatic sigh as the four men blatantly noticed it. Throwing down her worthless hand, she added a pout to her sigh. ”Oh darn. I’m going to have to stop playing with you guys if you don’t stop taking my money…” Huffing another sigh, she reinstated her saucy look and shot the man to her left a wink. ”If you fellas will excuse me, I need to go powder my nose.” As she strutted away, she felt their eyes crawl over the back of her legs, a familiar, but still unpleasant sensation. She resisted a sneer as she nudged into the filthy ladies room. Unpleasant, but still necessary. The one to her left was a witch, and if she could just get him to follow her home… She could feed off his magic in some alley and leave him to wake up tomorrow drained and weak. But alive.
Oh, she was well aware another witch eater out there was ruining it for all of them. Snatching hearts left and right, drawing blatant suspicion to all of them. Rosel snapped the tap off with an angry jerk. It wasn’t fair. Someone out there was glutting themselves on witch hearts while she was stuck luring drunks out of bars for a snack. She’d only had one heart so far this trip; a back alley thug with an interest in her strategically expensive earrings.
But there was nothing for it, just to keep her head down. Refluffing her skirt, she strode out of the bathroom and was immediately aware of the mononoke moving to the table next to hers, already occupied by an… unfortunate looking witch. She gave the pair of them a wink before sitting down again. Recrossing her legs, she waited for her next hand. Hopefully the mononoke made better conversation than these idiots.

Makai Academy: Dining Hall
Long, mahogany wood tables spanned the length of the expansive room, the glossy tops marred by many years of abuse, tiny grooves and nicks visible every few inches. The drapes were a heavy dark blue, lined with silver, pulled away from the latticed windows with thin braided ropes of silver, and the ceiling overhead was vaulted, beams cris-crossing back and forth over the entire hall.
At a table near the back, looking utterly bored and completely out of place, a figure sat half secluded in the shadows, his booted feet uncaringly thrown up onto what was supposed to be a place for eating. He was leaning back with his fingers linked behind his head, face hardly visible, hair tumbling over his shoulders in messy black and red waves.
There was a low hiss. Something large and serpentine curled half out of the shadows before slipping back into them, wrapping itself around the shoulders of the man.
"Patience," murmured Professor X. "Patience."
He didn't even really need to be here, but he thought it would be entertaining, at the very least. So far he'd been relatively unnoticed, and had no particular desire to go and speak to the children milling about, but whatever the case, the Arcana History professor was in a rather good mood.
Which, for the most part, was almost never a good sign.

"We don't need a third couch, Lycander."
The bustling, crowded streets of Lumena were, as usual, brimming with citizens despite the rather dismal weather. Rain drizzled down onto the passersby that roamed from shop to shop, trying to get indoors before the downfall.
"Come on." Requiem Driscoll took ahold of his boyfriend's hand and tugged him down the street, ignoring all of the not-so-inconspicuous glances that kept flashing his way.
The tension in the air was thick; so thick it was nearly tangible enough to cut with a knife. Requiem was quite aware of the goings-on lately, and quite aware that those who knew what he was would be suspicious; at least, those who knew what he was and did not trust him. He rarely admitted the truth of what his actual nature was, but there had been a few unexpected exceptions - Lycander, for instance, who at the moment was standing with his fingers linked through Requiem's.
A few more looks were directed to where they stood. Requiem brushed his newly cut hair away from his face and said tersely "Let's get inside."
He dragged the older boy towards the nearest building - a tavern whose name was not visible on the dirty, smudged sign hanging outside - and pushed open the door just as the sky opened and the rain began to fall in sheets.
They made it inside barely in time. Requiem pushed his wet hair out of his eyes, slowly adjusting to the darkness. He did not recognize where they were, but it was warm and sheltered from the rain anyway - despite the fact that he felt absurdly out of place. Automatically he drew nearer to Lycander, uncaring of anyone casting disapproving glances at their linked hands.
"I'm thirsty; let's get a drink," Requiem muttered, and started towards the bar.

Salem had taken to tracing his finger around the rim of his mug slowly, devoting what of his concentration remained to this constant motion, drawing a sort of serenity from it, letting it draw him deeper into his own thoughts. So engrossed was he in his mind that he looked right through the purple-eyed girl, even as she started speaking. Any other day, he would have reprimanded himself for losing touch with reality so completely, but his senses were, for the moment, shattered. When she began speaking a different tongue, though, Salem came crashing back to reality.
He blinked twice, the ruined socket twitching in unison with it still-functioning partner. Looking the newcomer over, Salem searched for some recollection of her, for she seemed the type he wouldn't easily forget. No memories, however, nor flashes of recognition, so Salem decided he'd never seen her before. How wonderful, though! Such a unique person for him to make himself acquainted with, to weave into the ever-expanding tapestry of his eventual glory!
“I have not heard that tongue in a long, long time,” he said, flashing a winning grin at her, drawing out the 'longs' for effect. “What a pleasure to meet one from the tribes again! Please, please, take a seat,” he continued, straightening up, moving his drink aside, making space for her.
In the time between his moving and the girl sitting down, another woman, this one with startlingly green eyes, came sauntering out of the bathroom. He believed he had seen her before, though where, he could not say. He returned her wink by placing two fingers against his temple and lifting them away in a most basic, most informal salute, and made a note to say hello to her later. The bar was rapidly filling up with interesting characters. Probably to take refuge from what sounded like a deluge of rain outside, Salem could stand to wager.
“Now, you'll have to forgive me, for I am quite rusty, but...” He said as he turned back to the now-seated mononoke. He proceeded to clear his throat, and, slowly, added, “Ga do de tsa do'a?” What is your name?
((btw kuro I don't mean to not tag you, but I'm trying to keep coherence in my post here and I've already edited twice Dx I'll have Salem acknowledge you next post <3))

The sun had set, and the girls stomach growled lightly. It was getting to be dinner time. Cedar, straightened up pushing strands of hair from her face, and let out a sigh. Sale have been down, no one really stops into the store these days... All thus hubbub about the murders, was really getting to people. But Cedar could understand. She didn't mean to stay at the shop as late as she did. Walking home alone in the evening was scary now, it was like the shadows had eyes... Goosebumps formed on the witch's skin and she shook her head.
"No!" She said aloud, she wouldn't scare herself. Not until she got home at least... He modest apartment was a couple blocks away. Looking around the store with her olive colored eyes, making sure things were put away for the night, Cedar took out a small lantern, the door jingled as she opened and closed it, locking it with a click.
She shrugged her cloak over her shoulders, and pulled it close. The air had gotten chilly, and it was just that kind of feeling... Glancing around the street she saw only a few people scuttling about, all of them looking over their shoulders. Exhaling, her breath was visible, the street lamps had flickered on. She knew the lantern was kind of strange, but back on the farm, they used them. She was so use to them, it felt weird not having one at night now.

Moonfall: Theo's home
It was late already, the sun setting. Dangerous to be out, especially given the recent news. Theo's mind wandered as he went over what he knew. A soft knock on the door interrupted the flow of his thoughts. Who could it possibly be? Theo hadn't really brought anyone to his home, nor given them his address. Besides Phil and Kyu, that was. And Ophelia. Phil and Kyu couldn't possibly be here, so it had to be Ophelia.
Rising, Theo crossed the room and pened the door a crack, peering out. And sure enough, a not so petite figure stood outside. The white hair and purple eyes were instantly recognizable, as were the ever present headphones that were no doubt blasting some kind of music or another at ear-splitting volumes. "Ophelia." He opened the door a little wider, enough to admit her. "Come in."
What puzzled him was why she was here. She was mostly capable of defending herself after all. She was a Reaper. He closed the door after she walked in, turning the lock just in case. "What brought you here?" He inquired, leaning against the door, head cocked slightly as his blue eyes assesed the woman before him. There were so many other places she could be, but why had she come here? The's home was hardly the safest place to be about, especially at night time. Night was when the shadows grew longer, consuming everything in a dark oblivion.
Moonfall was not the safest place to be, nor was Lumena or Makai. Everywhere, there had been reports of corpses found. Or near corpses, depending on how optimistic one was. Theo was hardly the brightest ray of sunshine around. He was a cynic and a realist. They were witches, their hearts had been taken. That something which made the work, which helped them function on a day to day basis was gone. So they were more or less dead. Nothing could fix them, not even if their witch hearts were recovered. So now, suspicion and tension hung around in the air. People were wary of being out after dark now, staying indoors if possible. Theo himself took some precautions, if only to stop his brother and teacher from worrying so much about him. He was pretty far from both of them, so worrying them unnecessarily was something he would prefer to avoid.

The redhead eyed the couch in question. It looked super comfy and he was positive he could find a way to fit it into their apartment. He'd managed the piano after all! But alas, he was not allowed to furniture hunt right now, as Requiem kept telling him. At least not until they needed something new.
"Fiiiiine. But you have to admit it is a rather lovely shade of dark luscious red. I bet I could fit it in the living room. Just have to shift a few things around. Oh and the coffee table would look so lovely with it!" Was he aware it was drizzling out? Why yes, yes he was. Did he care? Pffff, nope! There was never an excuse not to go window shopping! At least not when your name was Lycander Taimborlin!
With a mock sigh of longing (really, he knew they didn't need another couch, he just loved looking!), Lycander let Requiem tug him away and down the street. He linked his fingers easily with his boyfriend's and kept glancing in the windows they passed. Lycander was, for all his easy and relaxed posture, very well aware of the tension that loomed in the air. Even more so, he was quite aware of how it was effecting Requiem. Which was the main reason he kept stopping and pointing out things that would look fantastic in their apartment. Nice distractions.
Squeezing Requiem's hand, Lycander gave him an easy smile and followed along. He attempted to read the sign to the building - a tavern to be exact - they were entering, but it had been illegible. "After you then, my dear." The redhead grinned as he was dragged inside just as the sky opened up. Oh good timing! His brilliant emerald eyes quickly took in the interior of the tavern and the people already present. No other familiar faces around. A few made him take pause as he noted feline ears on one female and an interesting looking male. Lycander offered any that caught his gaze a friendly smile, leaning closer to Requiem when his boyfriend drew near.
"A drink! Now this holds promise for some amusement later on." Lycander teased and walked towards the bar with Requiem. Leaning in close, Lycander whispered in the young man's ear. "Relax. Don't let anyone get to you. I'm right here." He placed a quick kiss against Requiem's cheek before turning that charming grin towards the bartender. "Two Spiced Ciders, please!"

Makai Academy // Dining Hall
She didn't like this tension that seemed to shroud every place she moved around to. Earlier that day, she'd been in lurking in Moonfall, curious to hear more word on these murders. It was her duty, wasn't it? To hunt those that preyed on a witch's heart. That town had pushed her to the limits of her socialization. Not only had the tension in the bustling city been outrageous on top of all the rumors racing through the gossip ocean, but then there were all the people that had to stop her and question if there was any word from the Reapers.
Shaden Denari moved through the shadows silently again. She'd left Moonfall pretty quickly after spending a few hours there and getting no where, heading towards Makai. Time to go visit someone who might actually have useful information! Her ears pinned back against her skull, tail swishing in irritation as she froze again. It was not the Mononoke's desire for the students running through the Academy to catch sight of her just yet. That would just take more time from her reaching her goal.
Sniffing the air, her shoulders eased a little at the comforting scent of rain. Shaden loved the rain. It was relaxing to watch and washed away the day's grime. Annnnd...there was the scent she was looking for! A slow curl of her lips and the Mononoke Reaper was off again only to find herself wandering into the dining hall. Why was he in the dining hall? It couldn't be for the food...
Using what shadows were there and small clusters of people - students, rather - to her advantage, Shaden made her way towards the familiar, lazy figure of a man.
"Didn't anyone ever teach you manners, Snakey?" Shaden said in a smooth voice, inviting herself to sit next to the Professor.
