I went to VS today actually and was disgusted by it as well. The part that bothers me the most is that 12 year girls are not old enough to have job, therefore not old enough to buy it themselves. Parents these days.

I do not think I would let (if I had a kid) my daughter go into VS until she is at least 15 or 16. Not even for the lip gloss. That is what Clair's is for.

So you wouldn't let your daughter, even with a parent, go into Victoria's Secret even if she had boobs? That seems seriously extreme to me. Makes about as much sense as not letting your kid go into a gas station because they sell condoms or porn there. Besides not all VS bras are lacy, slutty, flimsy creations. All the bras I have from there have been well-made and work well, and they aren't slutty at all.

I do agree that sometimes it's nice to have pretty underthings, even if you aren't showing them off. I'm thirteen and will buy underthings that are soft and lovely, and I don't go around going "Oooh lookie here guys!!" *flashes random people*. It gives you confidence to feel sexy and pretty, and if nice underwear is what it takes to do that, I'm all for it.

I would take my daugher somewhere else. Victoria Secret is too expensive anyway. My point is that there are stores meant for that age group. Kids today are growing up way too fast.
Once I went in there cause my mom went in, and I was 8, and it was scary.

Y eah I see the 12-year-old thing at my mall a lot. But, they buy them too.

Again, the OP said she saw them giggling at it, not trying it on, not purchasing it, not throwing the item over their bodies in front of boys.
Can I ask you something? when you were a girl, did you put on makeup, nail polish, big spiky heels in birght colors, feather boas and thing with sequins, lace and gliiter? Did you like putting on flashy grown-up things?
Then you must have been a whore! I mean, clearly you were playing with that stuff because you were thinking about sexual things and not that ladies looked glamourous in those things.
That's how rediculous this sounds. Besides, if they were giggling at the stuff, it doesn't mean they were thinking "hey, I want to work a corner in that". They were probably like "tee-hee, naughty stuff" or "I want that when I grow up and get married!"
Seriously, am I the only one who used to giggle at lingerie and pick out the stuff in catalogs and say "When I'm older I'm gonna wear that on my honeymoon!" ?

When I was 12 I did not care about make up and "adult" stuff. I played with dolls. I went to the stores that were ment for my age group and shoped there. I did not own thongs and did not care about them. I dressed my age and acted it.

By your reaction to my opinion, you must be 12.

I'm being realistic. Most girls give up dolls by age 10.
And I would bet I'm older than you, but that's off-topic.
Remember we're talking about girls in puberty, in junior high, and they will think more adult things that "barbie!" but not to the point where they see something lacey and thing "I'm gonna be a stripper!"
This just reminds me of when teen girls are seen with babies. Everyone thinks "slut mom!" without ever considering that they may be sisters, babysitters, cousins, ect.

I put on makeup and dressed in grown-up clothes for fun and such, but in no way did I attempt to show off my body by wearing sexually arousing undergarments. That's a whole different story.

EDIT: It also said "picking out lingerie for themselves". They were picking it out. They were going to buy it. 12 year olds were going to buy lingerie.

Again, how do you know that? Again, with the catalog s**t, my friends and I used to pick out stuff too. We would fantasize about what if we were getting married and going on our honeymoon, what if we were the gals in Moulin rouge? We'd say "Lindsay you would wear that!" "well megan would were that!" "I like that thing!"
Again, lingerie, yes, but innocent fun. I think you guys are really really reading into it.
Unless the OP followed them to the cash register, saw them check out with the iteams, and then overheard that it was for sex, I'm not going to demonize them for diong the same thing everyone has done at some point.
I agree when you say that looking in catalogs=innocent fun.

Lets face the facts.

We know that 12 years olds do stuff like have sex. So that's a huge possibility that they were buying it. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that some guys do that. I don't see why you are doubting that since young girls buy things like that anyways and we all know it. I've seen one of my friends in the 6th grade receive lingerie from her mom as a Christmas present. Now I understand that it's harmless to joke about it, but actually buying it is disturbing considering that girls that age shouldn't have sexual thoughts in their brains. It's one thing to want to look cute, and another to look sexy.

Except that these are things that are worn underneath clothes. Even if they did buy them and wear them, the only people who would know are maybe the other girls in the gym locker room.

Is it possible that they were buying them because they were sexually active? Sure. But it's a pretty big assumption to assume that everyone who buys pretty underwear must be having sex.

preteen sex is rare. That some do it does not mean that all girls who look at lingerie are those who are having sex. It doesn't even mean that they know anything about sex!
In fact, that seems like a really quick blind leap for demonizing them; some (very few) kids that age have sex, so in conclusion, those girls MUST have bought it and bought it for sex.
And I am not doubting that kids that age sometimes have sex. I am doubting that because some do, we must be scornful, judgemental, and overall cruel to any kid their age seen within ten feet of anything that could be in some way sexual without any knowledge as to why they would be near it or what exactly they see it for.
Again, the teens seen with children thing. Do you know how annoying it is when you're 14, and you're babysitting your 2 year-old cousin and someone randomly calls you a slut? It's happened to me, and I don't want to be the one to perpetuate that blind hatred.

"...shouldn't have sexual thoughts in their brains." Ha. Never going to happen. Not with America's (and the rest of the world's) media circus on all things sexual. Besides, thinking about it and actually doing it are seriously different things. I know that when I was 11 I thought about sex, as did all of my friends who were younger than me even. That doesn't mean we were super sluts. Most of us hadn't even been kissed. We just thought about it because it made us giggle and all the guys made rude jokes about it.

I remember those days. Girls wanted to wear cute, lacey, pink ribboned undies, and the only ones who knew were us girls in the lockeroom. It was like a fun secret; no one outside of that period knew what we were wearing, but it made us feel pretty even if no one else knew.
Then my aunt found out that I wore stuff like that and she gave me a two hour talk about how panties like that would make me a whore and get me pregnant with a baby that would ruin my life like my mom (not kidding, she used my mom as an example, who by the way, had me at 24 after getting married).
I just don't see anything wrong with a woman trying on lingerie in front of her three year old. She is probably naked in front of her all the time. Changing, showering together, using the toilet, lots of reasons. And I can't think of any reason the dad shouldn't be there.

Shameless Fatcat

The thing with the honeymoon, I was also picking stuff out because it was pretty, not sexual. I honestly had no clue how sex really worked. I knew that on your honeymoon the girl looked pretty so the guy would be suprised, and then they got in bed and he did something gross and some day we would like it for some reason. I had no clue how sex really worked and I didn't care. I just wanted to pick stuff to be beautiful.

12 year olds don't need to worry about that stuff, they need to focus about school and their grades.

Charged with battery.
I don't find it offensive at all.

Bras and underwear are pretty much nessecity for women, and I know for one fact: Victoria's Secret has great quality fabric and stitching, and is fashionable. As for the twelve-year-olds, there are two possible circumstances. One, as both you and I know, children want to be loved. Be it by family members, friends, or otherwise. It really is the popular thing to be sexually active, and if not, at least have the undergarments for people to assume it's so. Two, they could just be picky about what they wear.

My little sister won't wear jeans, so we hafta go to some specialty stores to get her pants she's willing to war. It's the same thing with undergarments. This is high quality stuff we're talking about. But the difference is, you can ignore uncomfortable pants. Uncomfortable undergarments, well...

And with the baby who was there with the mother and father, there's nothing really wrong there either. Many people think of things such as seductive, or nearly naked bodies as a taboo thing for anyone unmarried. Because of that, anything regarding naked-ness becomes taboo too. And those are things that need to be talked about. As long as the father wasn't making moves on the mother in the store, what's the problem?

Personal Input: I love Victoria Secret.

I have to say. I love how everyone sermonizes about things. "When I was this age..." blah blah blah.
Except... most the time we don't remember. I stopped playing with dolls when I was... 7?
It's almost impossible to know how you felt and what you thought at certain ages. Besides, times are achangin'.
Much madness is the divinest sense, and you can't do anything about it.

About the teen girls thing... my best friend has a nephew who looks just like her. When she carries him around she gets the dirtiest looks. Well now she had two nephews that look just like her.
We're planning to walk around Costco with the babies, with us holding hands and see the looks we get and then just tell them not to jump to conclusions or something.
