Back before Southern was a smudge of nuclear dust on the map of North America, it was home to an epic power struggle the likes of which have not been seen in millennia. Gods and their chosen prophets waged a war for supremacy, using its streets as battlefields and planting seeds of belief in the hearts and minds of its residents. To those in the know, it is called The Game, and it is as old as mankind itself; for as long as there have been people to rule over, the gods have fought to see who will rule.

But there are forces that oppose the game; mysterious government workers known as blacksuits sought to end the gods' playtime once and for all. After failing to halt it through more selective means, these agents of chaos elected to take the nuclear option. On the orders of the ruthless Chief Malcolm, Southern was reduced to little more than rubble and fallout, and all its inhabitants killed.

But the gods should never be underestimated. At the behest of Persephone, the Game's governing body, the players fled to Central to continue the war. But with a new location comes new dangers - a dark power hangs over this new city, woven into its very fabric. The blacksuits are out in force, and a dark conspiracy shrouds their true goals.

Herein are chronicled the tales from Central.

General Rules
  • We don't love drama. We especially don't love drama in our shop. While we're not asking you to love everyone, we're definitely asking you to be civil when it comes to EndGame. Staff is here to mediate when you need them to, and if you ever find yourself frustrated with the staff, we would rather you let us know in a civilized manner instead of just letting it stew.
  • Begging for a character or trying to purchase someone else's character is just plain tacky.
  • Please demonstrate a passable mastery of the English language. While webspeak is okay for occasional comedic effect, it is frowned upon as a regular mode of communication.
  • Use common sense. Don’t do anything you know is stupid and will get people ticked off at you. Try to prove you’re smarter than a sea cucumber.
  • We'd really like it if, sighhhhhhhhh, you know, sighhhhhhhh, you wouldn't be passive-agressive, sighhhhhhhhh... If we ask you to do something or, sighhhhhhhh, tell you you can't do something or, sighhhhhhhh, you lose a contest, you don't need to be thrilled, but try not to mope too loudly or act like we've personally insulted your mother or anything like that, sighhhhhhh... See how off-putting it is?
  • We reserve the right to add to any of these rules at any time.

Event Rules
  • The judges' decision is final in all events. Whether you have won or lost, please do not contest the results, act bitter about them, or go rant in other threads about how unfair it is and how you should have won.
  • If there is an official end time for an RP contest, please do not go over it. Late entries will not be accepted, and the deadline will be clearly marked at the top of the event thread.
  • Once your entry into a contest is posted, please do not make major edits to it. We will be checking and we will know. (A major edit constitutes any drastic changes to character, story structure, or significant rewrites. A minor edit is fixing your grammar or spelling... which really you should have done before you posted!) If you need to make major edits, please just do us all a favor and repost.
  • You can enter the contest more than once, but you can only win one character per contest.

Roleplay Rules
  • Roleplay is officially in third-person past tense.
  • We've streamlined the battle system! No more confusing dice rolls. You guys are big kids and should be able to figure out who wins on your own.
  • Though if you really can't decide, the winner is decided by a single dice roll by the mule. A ten sided die will be rolled for each participant. Bonus points are added based on your rank. Newbies are +2, Prophets are +4, and Cultists are +6. The higher total wins, but how you get there is up to you.

PLAYERS, also referred to as “Godlings,” are powered participants in the Game. Each one is prophet of a different God or Goddess, blessed with unique attributes and powers relating to their domain. The standard player progresses through three power tiers, and an optional fourth, as they gain followers, exercise their powers, and get closer to unlocking the mysteries at the heart of the game.

User Image

Newbies are typically aged between thirteen and sixteen (this is a jump from when the Game was played at Southern). As if puberty weren’t enough, you might have gained a few extras when you were awakened as a player… if you didn’t have them to begin with. Having only recently discovered their destinies, the Newbie stage is focused on forging alliances, gaining shaky control over powers, and becoming familiar with Central. It is relatively short, as players and gods alike are usually eager to reach the more powerful stages that lie beyond it.

User Image

Prophets are typically aged between fifteen and nineteen, and are both mentally and physically more mature than Newbies, as well as more powerful. As a Prophet, players can begin spreading the word of their god, causing civil unrest, and gaining a following. Gone are the idyllic days of Newbiedom – if you didn’t spend any time on making alliances, you’d better focus on them now, because otherwise you might not have anyone to back you up in a fight when you need them. Your divine attributes are becoming more obvious and these, combined with your growing fame, will make you a target for Blacksuits. But don’t get too cocky, because there’s always someone more powerful than you…

User Image

Cultists span the ages of eighteen and twenty-two, and these extra few years really give them an edge over the competition. As a Cultist, it could be said that one is more divine than human; it could also be said that the paranormal energy you exude, combined with your considerable following, make you an easy mark for Blacksuits looking for a fight. Start thinking about your alliances, paying careful attention to who you could possibly stand spending the next eternity with, and kick your enemies to the curb or else you’ll find yourself wishing you had. For many players, this will be the end of the road, but for others, the journey is just beginning…

User Image

Ascended players have made their own legend and have the followers to prove it. But while they may have fought their way into the Pantheon, the battle against the Blacksuits is just beginning. In order to wrench Central, and the world, from their organization’s grasp, Ascended players and their lower-ranked allies will need everything they’ve got. Keep on your toes, keep your friends close, and be ready to fight tooth and nail for the city. You may have reached godhood, but there are ways to kill a god.

User Image

BLACKSUITS are single-stage, template-art characters. While you can chose the coloration, hairstyle, and some accessories for your character, the body shape and outfit will remain the same. Blacksuits, otherwise known as agents of the Mutations Investigations Bureau (M.I.B.), are the enforcers of Central, and every other city. They control the flow of goods, information, and travel. They are responsible for the nuclear eradication of Southern, and would not hesitate to use such force again.

User Image

Officially, the Blacksuits are lead by Chief Malcolm, but a more shadowy figure lurks in the background of the organization, pulling strings and seeking to eradicate the Game for his own nefarious ends.

User Image

CIVILIANS are everyone else. They are single stage, custom-art characters. Civilians can be nearly anyone – university students, shopkeepers, actors, custodians, bus drivers – the possibilities are endless.

User Image

Civilians may become involved with Player plots as little or as much as they desire; there are plenty of things in Central to explore even if you don’t have magical powers. In rare occasions a Civilian may become a Player, but this is unlikely – most Players are chosen by their gods prior to their births, so if you have a character who you want as a player, it is advised you acquire them as a player, and not as a civilian with hopes of obtaining an upgrade.

Welcome to Central. Built on the ruins of what was once Topeka, this circular city is one of the largest pockets of civilization in the country. Central doesn't take it's title lightly; it protects it's citizens from the eradicated ruins of the outside world, with towering walls and a system of military bases on a constant watch for a possible attack.

Behind the walls, the workings of society move like clockwork, under a strict government system, with a emphasis on safety and order for it's citizens. All threats are stopped quickly and efficiently, and anybody who speaks out of turn are never heard from again. Central's inhabitants have been bred with a sense of caution, careful under the cameras on every street corner; Others have grown discontent- trying to subvert the powers that suppress them. Under the intricate machinery of Central, pieces are starting to break, and even the higher ups are beginning to have trouble fixing them all. Central might be in the middle of the country, but it's a city on the edge.

Central is divided into several economic zones:

  • Central Quarters- Under the shadows of the tallest buildings in the city is Central Quarters, the section of the city that everyone tries to avoid. Lined with impenetrable, ID-accessible government buildings, the center of Central is under constant surveillance. Whether caught by camera or a passing blacksuit, anything that arouses the slightest bit of suspicion is subject to investigation. As a general rule, godlings don't want to be caught in Central Quarters, unless they want the attention of every blacksuit in the city.

  • Central University- North of Central is the prestigious Central University. Famed for its programs in business and law, it's College of Investigative studies (Read: Blacksuit training), and it's extensive library, this close-knit campus is home of some of the brightest young minds of the city, as well as a few less than eligible students, getting past the university's high standards with a little monetary persuasion. Currently, the University is going a major renovation project to modernize it's campus. Switching from their traditional concrete buildings to a sleeker, glass affair. Every once in a while construction vehicles roll around on campus.

  • Eastern Suburbs- The Eastern Suburbs are the living quarters for a majority of the citizens of Central. The houses get nicer as you go towards Central Quarters, from the brick, utilitarian apartment buildings , to some of the older, but nicer, wooden-panel houses in various pastel colors. The homes far off to the east have been in disrepair or outright abandoned, fertile ground for the rumors and urban legends that sprout from there from time to time.

  • Eastern Commerce- Bordering the suburbs from the rest of the city is the city's commercial district. Closer to the city are the big businesses, superstores, plazas and strip malls full of brand name shops for the consuming masses. While the other side of the suburb's shell is the more local scene: mom and pop shops, laundromats owned by generations of families, and restaurants with cheaper, (and significantly tastier) food.

  • Industrial- In the northwestern part of the city is the section where the smokestacks are high and the smog is thick. Most of Central's working class work in the factories, making almost everything that's found in the city.

  • Agriculture- Not all of Central's goods are mass produced in factories. In southern Central lies the agriculture district, streets are filled with large, multi-story greenhouses and tactfully covered slaughterhouses with the sole purpose of creating the city's food supply.

  • The Chateau- Located northwest of central lies the Chateau, a gated community full of stylish and extravagant homes that only the city's upper-crust can afford. Wealthy CEOs, government officials, and blacksuit higher-ups are among those who can afford The Chateau's steep upkeep costs. Other blacksuits have been seen patrolling the iron fences, as well as driving down the garden lined streets. Mostly the newcomers that have been shoehorned into doing the grunt work.

  • Chateau Commerce- The Chateau has it's own equivalent of Eastern's Commerce. Chateau's Commerce is lined with high class shops where money's exchanged by the sackful for commodities such shiny jewels, fast cars, and fine art. It also serves as the main hub of the rich's entertainment, full of all sorts of live entertainment from theaters to jazz clubs.

  • The Fields- The backyard of the city, adults and children alike play in the large green field just a few block walk from the suburbs. With all it's ball playing and kite flying, it's hard to believe that The Fields were part of the city at all. At least, it would seem like it, if it weren't for the looming gray wall that borders the city and the military base overlooking it.

  • Oldpeka-Beyond the walls of Central are the smoldering leftovers of the pre-war world- the cracked streets of what used to be Topeka. Among the decaying brick buildings and the arid fields live Central's exiles, criminals, illegal splicers and the like. The ways to Oldpeka are many, but most city natives don't figure out the secret passages unless they look for them. One of the better known ways beyond the walls is to pull open a manhole cover and find the right way, but some of the kids claim that it can be reached by a break in the wall somewhere in the Fields.

  • The C.A.T (The Central Authority of Transportation)- A government controlled organization overseeing the bus and subway system, as well as a good chunk of the taxi services. The CAT Subway, notorious for it's rising fare and it's rat infested tunnels, have stations located throughout the city. The bus system, while it has it's share of shady passengers, is relatively clean and safe to use.

Let's play the Game. The distinction is unclear as to whether God created Man or Man created God, but one thing's for certain: it's been played for as long as anyone divine or otherwise can remember. After all, how else might a street urchin become a god?

Gods generally select their players before, at, or shortly after birth, but actual contact is rarely made before the player officially "enters" the Game, sometime between the ages of thirteen and sixteen. Players are inducted by either the Scorekeeper or the Referee, who gives them a brief introduction to the rules and premise, and their talisman. Talismans are small items that officially mark players as "active" in the Game and strengthen the psychic bond between them and their god.

Success in the Game assures a place in the pantheon, and influence over the next era of civilization. With humanity's belief in gods fading and a strange, apparently mortal opposition to the Game brewing on the playing field, this round is more important than any round ever played before it. Players will progress through three stages and an optional fourth, gaining influence and power in hopes of reaching godhood, assembling a pantheon, and insuring that humanity's fate is in the right hands.

How is this shop related to the original EndGame?
EndGame | Tales from Central is a direct sequel to the original, with many of the same characters transferred over. However, the setting is original to this shop, and much of the backstory has been compartmentalized into a much more streamlined meta. If you are interested in reading more about the original incarnation, you can still find the old thread here. However, an in-depth knowledge of events at the old shop is not required to enjoy the new shop.

I want in - what's the best way to get involved?
If we're between events, your best bet is to subscribe to the thread, start posting, and get to know people. We're a friendly bunch, so don't feel intimidated! While you're waiting for an event or a custom slot, you can go ahead and start working on a concept, collect feedback, and get all polished and ready so when the opportunity arises, you're good to go!
If we're in the middle of an event, take a moment to read the prompts and premise of the event and familiarize yourself with what's going on, and then hop in! You can't win if you don't enter!

Do you guys do customs?
Customs are opened at the artist's discretion based on time and availability. You are more likely to catch an open slot if you are paying attention in thread. Please do not PM the artists about customs unless their slots are open.
Artists may set their own prices and adjust them between open slots. Just because you inquire about a slot does not mean the artist is required to accept your request. Customed characters must still have their profiles approved before they may be played.

What about RL customs?
NO. (We might revise this later, but at the moment it is a definite No Nyet Nada Nein.)
