PLAYERS, also referred to as “Godlings,” are powered participants in the Game. Each one is prophet of a different God or Goddess, blessed with unique attributes and powers relating to their domain. The standard player progresses through three power tiers, and an optional fourth, as they gain followers, exercise their powers, and get closer to unlocking the mysteries at the heart of the game.
Newbies are typically aged between thirteen and sixteen (this is a jump from when the Game was played at Southern). As if puberty weren’t enough, you might have gained a few
extras when you were awakened as a player… if you didn’t have them to begin with. Having only recently discovered their destinies, the Newbie stage is focused on forging alliances, gaining shaky control over powers, and becoming familiar with Central. It is relatively short, as players and gods alike are usually eager to reach the more powerful stages that lie beyond it.
Prophets are typically aged between fifteen and nineteen, and are both mentally and physically more mature than Newbies, as well as more powerful. As a Prophet, players can begin spreading the word of their god, causing civil unrest, and gaining a following. Gone are the idyllic days of Newbiedom – if you didn’t spend any time on making alliances, you’d better focus on them now, because otherwise you might not have anyone to back you up in a fight when you need them. Your divine attributes are becoming more obvious and these, combined with your growing fame, will make you a target for Blacksuits. But don’t get too cocky, because there’s always someone more powerful than you…
Cultists span the ages of eighteen and twenty-two, and these extra few years really give them an edge over the competition. As a Cultist, it could be said that one is more divine than human; it could also be said that the paranormal energy you exude, combined with your considerable following, make you an easy mark for Blacksuits looking for a fight. Start thinking about your alliances, paying careful attention to who you could possibly stand spending the next eternity with, and kick your enemies to the curb or else you’ll find yourself wishing you had. For many players, this will be the end of the road, but for others, the journey is just beginning…
Ascended players have made their own legend and have the followers to prove it. But while they may have fought their way into the Pantheon, the battle against the Blacksuits is just beginning. In order to wrench Central, and the world, from their organization’s grasp, Ascended players and their lower-ranked allies will need everything they’ve got. Keep on your toes, keep your friends close, and be ready to fight tooth and nail for the city. You may have reached godhood, but there are ways to kill a god.
BLACKSUITS are single-stage, template-art characters. While you can chose the coloration, hairstyle, and some accessories for your character, the body shape and outfit will remain the same. Blacksuits, otherwise known as agents of the Mutations Investigations Bureau (M.I.B.), are the enforcers of Central, and every other city. They control the flow of goods, information, and travel. They are responsible for the nuclear eradication of Southern, and would not hesitate to use such force again.
Officially, the Blacksuits are lead by Chief Malcolm, but a more shadowy figure lurks in the background of the organization, pulling strings and seeking to eradicate the Game for his own nefarious ends.
CIVILIANS are everyone else. They are single stage, custom-art characters. Civilians can be nearly anyone – university students, shopkeepers, actors, custodians, bus drivers – the possibilities are endless.
Civilians may become involved with Player plots as little or as much as they desire; there are plenty of things in Central to explore even if you don’t have magical powers. In rare occasions a Civilian may become a Player, but this is unlikely – most Players are chosen by their gods prior to their births, so if you have a character who you want as a player, it is advised you acquire them as a player, and not as a civilian with hopes of obtaining an upgrade.
