Name: Valeriu Marius Jaklovzsky Nicknames: Vale, Varu, Prince, Hannibal, Kitty, Mittens, Mr. Whiskers, Meow Mix (et al) Approximate Age: 17 Date of Birth: July 22nd
Prophet of: Tezcatlipoca Rank: Cultist
Occupation: Construction worker, student architect
Personality: Serious and easily guilt-tripped; sometimes mischievous when in good humor; affectionate; indecisive in relationships; a man of violence (but not a violent man - see Durarara!! for explanation); unwilling cannibal Likes: Working; his friends and family; bitter foods; Tepin and Quinn Dislikes: Losing; cowardice; being teased or tricked; Quinn
Powers:
Power One- Shadows. Valeriu is able to manipulate shadows into any shape, be it for battle or for daily chores. He can only use shadows on the ground or walls. At the height of his power, shadows will respond of their own volition to his presence, moving independently (and with utter disregard for Valeriu's own wishes or commands). Power Two- Smoke. Valeriu can release different kinds of smoke from the mirror embedded in his chest, although he does this very rarely and appears to disdain its usage in a fight, preferring melee attacks. The smoke is sometimes hallucinogenic, other times fatal in a large enough dose. Power Three- Shadow Walking. Not only can he manipulate shadows into solid shapes, but Valeriu is able to travel directly through shadows when given enough to work with, using them as a doorway to either his god's realm or to another area in the immediate vicinity. With effort, he can even bring one or two people with him. Power Four- Limit Break. Technically not a power, whenever Valeriu takes down another Godling and finishes it off properly (omnomnom), he gains a temporary boost in power and a sense of invincible euphoria.
Appearance: Hair: Black, with short and messy spikes Eyes: Slightly almond-shaped, with black sclera and dark red irises Face: Sharp and angular; he has a square jaw and an aquiline nose Body type: On the taller side, though outranked by Writ by at least several inches; sleek musculature and body structure, but well-filled out with wide shoulders; naturally tanned skin (mocha); has a pattern of lighter-skinned rosettes running from the back of his neck, across his shoulders, and midway down his shoulder blades; has a black and yellow striped tattoo crossing over his nose; covered in a wide variety of scars, most of them on the smaller side except for the gouges on his back from a fight with a very large jaguar; has a cracked, obsidian mirror somehow embedded in his chest over his heart, with the surrounding veins blackened from its presence; thanks to a fight with Quinn, also has a small rainbow tattooed across his left upper ribs
Fashion sense: Casual layered; he's a fan of muted colors, jeans, hoodies, fitted t-shirts and track jackets; usually wears sneakers, work boots, or skate shoes; sometimes has a tool belt snapped around his waist, thick gloves on his hands and safety goggles pushed up onto his forehead when around the workplace
Accessories: He has gold piercings in his ears - two studs in the right ear, and two studs and a cuff in the left, courtesy of his god

"Our Master, the Lord of the Near and Nigh, thinks and does what He wishes; He determines, He amuses Himself. As He wishes, so will it be. In the palm of His hand He has us; at His will He shifts us around. We shift around, like marbles we roll; He rolls us around endlessly. We are but toys to Him; He laughs at us."
Who is He?
His name was Tezcatlipoca.
God of Night and Material Things. A seducer, a trickster, and a blood-thirsty, heart-eating Aztec god.
The guy's a walking disguise. He's known by so many things, as so many things, that it's hard to pinpoint exactly what he is. He is the Enemy of Both Sides, the Night Wind, Lord of Near and Far, Possessor of the Sky and Earth, He Who's Slaves We Are, the Mocker, and the Youth. The Aztec Gateway "As the Lord of the Near and Nigh, Tezcatlipoca governs the fate of mortals, seeing into their minds and hearts with His obsidian mirror. He gives both reward and punishment as He sees fit; having the power to both bestow riches and take them away. As the night wind, Tezcatlipoca would rush through the streets in the night, giving terror or luck to any He came across in accordance with His whims and their worth. He carries five arrows which He uses to punish the wicked.
Tezcatlipoca is one of the four brother gods who rule over the directions. He rules over the North, the realm of darkness, contrasted to the Western Quetzalcoatl's realm of light. Opposed in methods and philosophies, Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl are considered rivals of each other. In the North, one may see Tezcatlipoca's singular footprint in Ursa Major. His other foot was lost in battle with the Earth Monster, to be replaced by the obsidian mirror of His name.
Tezcatlipoca is the patron of sorcerers, warriors, and young men. He is perpetually young, and considered the most handsome of the gods. Tezcatlipoca was the patron of the Telpochcalli, the schools where young men were trained to be warriors. The night warrior in contrast to Huitzilopochtli's day, Tezcatlipoca also uses sorcery and cunning to exact His will, in addition to warrior might. He is also a princely god, a patron of the nobility. However, He was also the patron of slaves, who were considered His "beloved children."
Tezcatlipoca has two nahualli (sorcerous animal) forms; Tepeyollotl, the jaguar god of the underworld, and Chalchiuhtotolin, the Jeweled Fowl. As Tepeyollotl, He stalks the underworld, causing earthquakes with His roars. As Chalchiuhtotolin, He appears as a beautiful bird, something like a turkey but far more stunning, covered in jeweled feathers. However, as beautiful as Chalchiuhtotolin is, He is also terrifying to behold.
Tezcatlipoca often tested mortals' bravery. He would sometimes appear in the night as Chalchiuhtotolin, uttering an eerie cry, or as a huge, decapitated man with a gash in the chest that opened and closed, making a sound something like a chopping ax. The idea was that a human who heard such sounds in the night might be brave and investigate, or might be terrified and flee. Those who were brave would find Chalchiuhtotolin or the headless specter, and their courage would be further tested. If the person fled, Tezcatlipoca would not favor them, for He is a fearsome god not for cowards. If the person was brave, however, they could grab Chalchiuhtotolin by the tail and capture Him, or reach into the specter's gaping chest to grasp it's heart. If they succeeded in facing their fears, Tezcatlipoca would give them a blessing.
Tezcatlipoca also governs the memories of the ancestors. He dwells in the House of the Night with His four wives: Xochiquetzal, Xilonen, Atlatonan, and Huixtocihuatl, who represent the pleasures of life (erotic love, food, drink, and salt, respectively). The Jaguar Warrior order was dedicated to Him, as was the city of Texcoco. Though considered a dangerous and capricious god, Tezcatlipoca was well honored by the Aztecs, who knew that darkness was vital to the function of the universe."
-From The Aztec Gateway
For more information about Tezcatlipoca, see some of the rituals involved in worshiping the god, or some of the myths about him. Besides that site, there is also plenty of information on Google! He's a jerk, is what he is. He takes the form of a black jaguar often, amongst others, in order to trick and test the hearts of men and women based on his own judgment of morality and bravery.
His goal is to bring about his own version of Judgment Day - and his standards are pretty high.
The original Tezcatlipoca split himself into four pieces because he was too powerful - into four different forms. Red, White, Blue...and Black. Black was what Valeriu was stuck with. Black, in constant war with the White Tezcatlipoca - also known as Quetzalcoatl. As a result, this Tezcatlipoca isn't all there, if you know what I mean.
Talk about family reunions. Aztec mythology never gets old on duplicity and betrayal.
Besides taking on the forms of a black jaguar (Tepeyollotl) and a "Jeweled Fowl" (Chalchiuhtotolin), his other common form was that of a stunningly handsome man. A man with a black and yellow striped tattoo going across the bridge of his nose. A man who, depending on his whim and who you talk to, always has a limb exchanged with an obsidian, smoking mirror. Sometimes it substitutes for his leg, sometimes in his chest, sometimes his back or arm - you get the drift. Usually it's his right leg, where the Monster, Tlaltecuhtli, a giant cayman, bit off his foot before getting turned into the earth.
But yeah, that mirror? Big trouble. The smoke isn't just for show. That's his main gimmick, that mirror. The smoke from that thing can confuse, enthrall, ensnare, seduce...and kill.

Family:
Sydni Valeriu's younger sister, currently 3 years old and turning 4 in December. Precocious, stubborn, and a little hell-raiser who crosses her brother every chance she gets. Very intelligent for her age. Right now in the foster care of the Carnegie family, where she's well looked after.
Andrei and Dana Jaklovszky Both highly intelligent and hard workers, theirs was a match made in heaven. Andrei was the talkative socialite, and Dana was the quiet caregiver. Where he joked, she lectured. Where he advised, she taught. They instilled some pretty strong morals in Valeriu, especially to protect his sister like a big brother should; but they also kept him pretty sheltered. They prefered solitude amongst the neighborhood - no close family friends, and Dana home-schooled Valeriu and kept him close to home. Both Andrei and Dana worked in the higher tiers of the government - Valeriu never bothered to wonder what they did for a living, just as most kids don't bother to wonder if "Mama" and "Dad" have actual names. Dana went on maternity leave when Sydni came rolling along, but a few months later they both returned to the workforce together...and never came back. Valeriu tried and failed in searching for them, but still hopes to recover his parents some day despite all the signs pointing towards their death. Signs that also suggest that Andrei and Dana were in a dangerous and highly illegal line of work after he found a weapons stash in their attic.
Seamus and Murphy Carnegie Twin brothers who started out as Valeriu's coworkers at the construction site, and quickly grew to become self-appointed older brothers to him. Twin terrors that had more than a little influence on Sydni's personality.
Friends:
Quinn Frenemy Godling of Quetzalcoatl, and one of Valeriu's on-and-off again relationships. Their gods despise each other, and thanks to the tricky strings of fate (and teenage hormones) they can't ever quite disentangle themselves from one another.
Writ Valeriu's comrade in arms and Godling of Coyote. Loves to wreak havoc on the government with the older Godling, and they have a tendency to get stupidly drunk together.
Ciro Deceased Godling of Shamash. Was something of a mentor for the short time they knew each other, thanks to a deal made by their gods. Still a man that Valeriu admires and strives to become more like (avoiding Ciro's vices and pitfalls, of course).
Tepin Presumed deceased in the blast. Godling of Mixcoatl, and Valeriu's second lover. In the end, he ended things with her in order to protect her from the monster he continued to evolve into and to discourage her from playing in the Game, but still cares deeply for her.
Keeya Godling of Edinkira, presumed dead in the blast. More of a friendly acquaintanceship, but Valeriu always felt more at ease talking to the tree-girl, and hoped to see her do well in the Game and in life.
Sarah Godling of Bast. Acquaintance.
Enemies:
Jubs/Mercury Godling of Hermes, killed by Valeriu and Quinn's hands after the crazed Godling became too dangerous to let alone.
Seth Godling of Hypnos, new Scorekeeper of the Game, and technically killed by Valeriu after a case of misunderstanding. Things are pretty awkward, now.
