• A tear seems to fall from space
    and land on her cheek
    it adds to a stream
    that falls off her chin
and onto the stain of blood that’s on her sleeve
    she looks at her arm
    with pulsing eyes
    she stares at the blood
    running just like her tears
    the tears run faster
    as though racing the blood
her black hair clings to her face
and again she makes another line of relief
    on her already bloody arm
    one for the tears
    one for the words
    one for the abuse
    one for the laughter
    one for the hurt
she watches her pain drains away from her
    she smiles
    she can feel the pain
    but this pain is voluntary
    this pain is brilliant
she feels complete as she slips off into the
    dark unknown
    never to be hurt
    never to be hit
    never to be broken again.
she falls to the ground in a puddle of
    blood and tears
the two things she’s ever known
the only things in this world
    she could ever rely on…
