• Twas the night before Christmas, and I lay there awake
Listening to the man beside me, sleep a deep sleep.
The mini tree was twinkling with joys of love,
Wishing that the morning dawn would soon come.

I hear the howling wind outside the window,
And the scattered sounds of laughter from children down below.
Snowmen and snow angels lined the small street,
Letting others bask in the happiness that this Holiday brings.

I get up from the bed and leave the room,
The man beside me making a grunting noise or two.
With a smile on my lips and my body wrapped in warmth,
I head to the large bay window and stare out into the world.

The moon hangs calmly in the night sky,
Shining a small ray of light leading the lost home.
The snow scatters around the city of beautiful dreams,
Hoping that this Holiday everyone will be merry meet.

Upon my gaze out to the sleepless world,
I see something from the corner of my eye.
There struggling on the cold icy ground,
A small kitten of black and white.

With such horror of seeing the suffering creature,
I run to the door and relieve the tiny feline from the freezing cold.
Grabbing a blanket and a small syringe filled with milk,
I stay up all night nursing that poor thing back to health.

With dawn breaking way I hear the pattering off feet above,
“Is it morning already?” I saw with an awe.
Coming down the stairs I hear the whispering voice,
“Where were you this morning when I woke up alone?”

“I know it sounds weird, I know it’s crazy,
But last night I awoke and couldn’t fall asleep.
I explained my story of my absents that night,
And showed the man beside me the tiny little delight.

With a raise of a brow and a glance up at me,
The man beside me pried a grin upon his lips.
“I see, I see.” said the man who continued to stare,
At the kitten who began to play with the ball on his night cap.

The sun began to rise up on the city enchanted with sleep,
Noises from the waking people echo through the streets.
Rays of the sun enrich the twinkling freshly lain snow,
Christmas is here, so let everyone know.

Around the tree we all will meet, unwrapping the gifts,
And singing with joy at the sweet treats.
The kitten that was found plays in the paper in amazement,
Who would have thought something so small was so energetic.

Today is the day that people will embrace,
It’s about family and friends and not about the treats.
Celebrate the day with honour and grace,
Sing the songs of Christmas cheer.

Always remember what this day truly means,
Even if no one else believes you.
Just remember that the holiday season
Should be shared with the one’s you love.

From my family to yours, with wishes of the best,
We wish you a Merry Christmas to all, and hopes of the best.
Enjoy the New Year and make the best out of it,
Never forget the meaning that was bestowed upon your heart.
