• The Saber Tooth

I sat in my chair in the office trying to find out why are youngest tiger cub was not eating. I heard the ding-a-ling-ling of the phone ringing and I dug through the mess on my desk to find it,
"Hello, Big Cats Incorporated, Emily Summers speaking, how may I help you?" I heard a,
"Um, hello," coming from the phone. Then the person said, "Um, my name is Samantha and I was wondering what being a big cat specialist entailed?" I sat thinking for a second, then replied,
" Well, when you are a big cat specialist you basically look after and tend to the needs of a different variety of big cats, but here we only work with endangered cats." I paused for a few seconds letting the person take in my words, the asked, "do you have any more questions?' The person on the phone went quiet, and then said,
"No, thank you for your help, bye." I sighed, and then replied,
    "You're welcome, bye."
We always got the strangest phone calls here, but normally they were about the cats, not what we do for the cats. Over the last few years my dad kept saying he was going to bring the saber tooth back. I kept telling him it was a bad idea, that I wouldn't contribute to it, but he kept on insisting,
Then one day everything thing spun out of control.
"Emily, you must help me, I need you help with this. You are the only one who has the knowledge for this job," my dad pleaded, then added, "If your mother was here-"Cutting him off, I hissed through my teeth trying not to yell,
"Don't you bring my mother into this, she died helping you with one of your foolish plans and I already told you I'm not going to take any part in this ridiculous plan of yours."
"But you must Emily," my dad paused then added as if it was as second thought, "no, you have no choose you must help me. You are going to help –"my dad started to say, but then I cut him off saying, "Why?"
"Because "he paused, "They are already born."

My dad just told me that he just brought back an extinct species.

"What… How …They?! Dad what have you done, do you know the damage these creatures can have on the food chain?!" I yelled
"Emily calm do-"My dad began but I cut him off, "Don't you go telling me to calm down you just brought back an extinct species that can put animals … no people, in danger! "
Just after I finished yelling I heard a small rap on the door. I calmed myself down then said,
    "Come in."
The lady at the door was one of the scientists that were working on the 'saber tooth 'project, as my dad calls it.
"Um sorry to disrupt you, but I need you dad Miss Summers," the lady who I thought was Susan said.
"Yes Susan, what do you need?" My dad asked.
"Well Doctor Summers, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but we need you down in the lab, the cubs have awoken," Susan said politely.

What they have awoken and my dad needs my help with them what do I do?

"Yes we will be down there shortly. Get the cubs Ready and Emily will come down with me and feed one," my dad said. I then went to protest, but stopped. These were babies they needed some one to look after them and this lab was designed for tigers so everything should be ok, we might be able to do this.
"Dad I will help you but on one condition."
"And what is that Emily?" My dad asked.
"You tell me how you brought them back, what you plan to feed them, how you plan to feed them and…," in a softer tone I added, "You will let me hold one. "
My dad laugh then said," Follow me to the lab and I will tell you everything. "

When we got to the lab I put on my lab coat and a pair of latex gloves. One of the scientist were filling four baby bottles with a white liquid that looked like milk, but looked kind of different. I then pointed to the bottles and asked my dad,
"What is that?" he looked at the direction I am pointing in then said, "The stuff in the bottles? That's what you are going to be feeding the cubs, it is breast milk from a tiger. "
"Oh cool." I said. My dad clapped his hands together then said, "Now, do you still won't to know how I brought those tigers back?" my dad questioned.
    "Yes." Was my only reply.

I was feeding one of the cubs as my dad started to answer my questions.
"Now Emily what were you questions again?"
"I wonted to know how you brought them back, what you planed to feed them and how you planned to feed them," I said. My dad just stood there for a second then began his tale.
"We found a female saber tooth and she was frozen in a block of ice so we had to defrost her but when we did it tern out she was regnant and she was about to give birth so when we defrosted her she gave birth. But soon after to all of are disappointment she died. So all that were left were these- "my dad pointed at the cub in my arms and the other cubs in their cages, then continued, "cubs." I then just sat there and fed the cub.
"And the answer to your other question is that, when they are at this age we will feed them that milk you are feeding them now and you and the workers can feed them, but when they are older we will let them hunt for their own food like deer and other animals we have on this reserve." I was about to say how that could affect the population and food chain but my dad stopped me " I know what you are about to say and I don't wont you to …because I wont to tell you my self how this will not affects the population or how it will only slightly interrupt the food chain." My dad paused and pulled out a chart then continued "Well the problem with population will not occur because they hunt like any other of the tigers we have on the reserve. But for the food chain problem-"my dad stopped the showed me the chart he pulled out earlier the continued, "you see how it dues not change very much besides the factor that we added another predator to the mix, so we will add more pray."
I thought about it for a second then smiled and said, "Dad I think this will work."

    * * *
After a few years doctor Summers and most of his co workers were killed. The tigers and saber tooths had bread and created a new more powerful species of tiger and they ran out of food and hunted down and killed most of the workers, then each other only thirteen were left now and they had to be hunted down and killed before any other wacky scientist found them and got hurt or made more, they all had to be killed and they were going to be.
Emily stands in a clearing, with shotgun in hand; she is aiming at one of the adult saber tooth tigers, when the image of the little cubs resurfaces within her mind. In that instant she lowers her rifle and the saber tooth in front of her takes its chance and pounces on her. She fires her gun but it is too late the saber tooth is already on her. The sound of her gun fire is heard by the other hunters, and they run to the sound. But it is too late. Emily is dead. The hunter’s turns away from the bloody scene scanning the area for anymore of the saber tooth tigers but none could be found,
"Damn I told her to not go off alone." One of the other hunters spoke,
"Sam I think we should get her body out of here, it might draw the attention of the other tigers." Sam smiles an evil grin,
"Nick, that might just be the smartest thing you said today," he raises his voice just a bit telling the other hunters, "men get back to back and hide in the bushes, put your silencers on your guns and as soon as a few of the tigers are around her body take aim and fire."
Sam's plan worked, at first but when he scanned the area previously he did not look up. A few of the tigers entered the clearing, the hunters aimed there guns. But it was too late the tigers that where in the trees had already pounced.
