• Chapter 3: A single day without you.

One day, Miles missed school. That was very unusual for him. After class, I went to his house to check on him. His mother let me in and I went to his room. He was... sleeping: One hand on his head and the other on his stomach. I settled his homework down which I had previously brought and sat to watch him sleep. He looked peaceful. Rather reminds me of the five little boys I saw that night when I was a little girl. I touched his forehead: he was burning up. I brushed his silky, strawberry blonde hair with my fingertips. He was beautiful. My hand began to feel uncomfortable with the heat though.

Shortly after, his mother, Grace, came into his room with a silver tray carrying a bowl of warm, homemade, chicken noodle soup and some lemon tea. It smelled great. She settled it down next to the homework and wiped her hands with her apron.
-"Gee, Mrs. Neuman, that's smells great."- I confessed. She smiled at me tenderly. Miles resembled his mother very much. They both had the same blonde hair, except hers a little bit darker and they had the same brilliant blue in their eyes. Miles got her beauty and kindness. I love that about her.

-"I brought some soup so that he could eat but... apparently, he still hasn't woken up."- She looked at her son as he slept. -"Well, I'll just leave it to cool off a little bit. Would you mind staying hear with him while I go buy some groceries?"- She asked.

I could not possibly deny. I was not going. I did not want to miss one minute of this. There is no other place in this world were I would rather be. I agreed and she promptly left to go shopping. Not long after she left, Miles began sweating and hyperventilating. I began panicking. He turned and flipped in his bed simultaneously and I just sat there, trying to remember what my grandma would do.

If I thought hard, I can remember exactly what she would do. She would first tell me not to worry and then give me something warm to eat; and after I was all done and feeling much lighter, she would kiss my forehead and then let me rest.

I smiled and sat down calmly -To think I was already pacing around-. Miles opened his eyes and looked at me perplex. He tried to talk but his voice was terrible. He was trying to tell me something. With his index fingers, he began pointing at his wide opened eyes. Oh, his glasses. They were resting on the desk next to me. When I grabbed them, I noticed a contact case. I never knew Miles had spare contacts. I gave him his glasses and the tea that eased his throat a little bit enabling him to talk.
-"What are you doing here, Ky?"- He asked with a sore tone.

-"Watching you sleep. Your mom went out to the grocery shop to get some supplies."- I smiled. He did so too. I grabbed the bowl of soup and took a spoonful. -"Hm, it's warm."- I chuckled. After that, there was an awkward moment of silence. He looked at me with piercing eyes; I was beginning to feel uncomfortable.
-"Feed me, Ky."- He finally said looking at me. His diamond eyes penetrated into mine as if looking for something deep in my mind. I automatically moved my hand and gave him one spoonful.

Simple after that movement, I felt like my grandma.
    I sure missed her.

Miles finished eating and lay back on his bed just dozing off. I remember when I used to catch a cold. My grandma would just give me a kiss and I felt a little better. Wait... perhaps... if I give him a small kiss...

I looked at him carefully, examining his face to see were I would land it.
-"What're you staring at, Ky?"- He asked with one brow lodged up. I stood up and smiled. I leaned forward, wiped his forehead removing his sweat and hair, and pressed my lips against it. I noticed his eyes were wide open because I could feel the wrinkles in his forehead tighten. -"Don't worry. I'll take care of you... always. I promise. Now you should rest."- I whispered. I stood up straight and turned around. Next thing I know I was jerked back down. I could feel an abnormally hot bundle around me. Miles hugged me tightly against his chest. His torso was elevated and I was sitting on my butt next to his bed. At first, I was shocked but then I thought, "He must be in pain" so I wrapped my arms around his neck. His chin rested on my shoulder. He turned his head around and kissed my neck.
-"Don't leave me alone, Ky."- He said.
-"I can't leave you alone. I cannot go a single day without you. I'll bother you so much from now on... you'll find it annoyingly cute."- I smiled.
    -"Good"- He moaned.

Next thing I know, I woke up much later. I was on Miles bed, with him, still wearing my afternoon clothes. A few stars were out and it was very dark so it must have been late. Miles was sleeping next to me. He was facing the other way. I looked down at the floor and saw my shoes, my jacket, and my scarf neatly folded on the top of the desk next to Miles glasses. Mrs. Neuman probably did that but what called my sight once again were the contacts. I looked at Miles: he fell asleep with his glasses on. I carefully pulled them out and folded them closed. I placed them on the desk and stood up.

I began to grab my things when suddenly it hit me: Where am I going, back to my semi-empty studio? Why would I want to go back there when I could spend the night here with my best friend?

I dropped my things, took off my sweater and my socks, and tucked myself back into bed.

I remember the dream I had then. I saw that cute boy I met on my way to the studio. He was running in the fields in which I would play as a little country girl. Along his side ran Jovie. Why was Jovie running with him in our meadows? He ran with the bubble blower I once had and made big bubbles with the wind... as I once did. Suddenly he stops and says, "It was nice seeing you again".

That was strange. I could have sworn I have heard those words before...

Of course, that is what he told me when I saw him in front of my studio. Nevertheless, why did he say "again"? Have we even met before?

Nah! I would have probably remembered with such an adorable face...
