• Chapter Two

As she walked along the path, she mumbled to herself. Everything she said was about how stupid and insensitive men were, and how she should have seen this coming.
She sensed something behind her but her intuition kicked in too late. A giant shadow blocked all the moonlight from illuminating the way. She had no choice but to turn and face her stalker.
She almost gasped as she looked at the man's face. He was beautiful. Much more handsome than the gruesome Darragh. Being her curious self she looked at the rest of him. He was barely taller than her! She let out a brief giggle before smacking her hand over her mouth.
"You find something funny?" His voice was smooth and deep.
    "N-no." she nervously let out.
"Go on. You can tell me."
"Well, it's just that your so short, and gorgeous. Those two attributes don't add up to scariness."
The man smiled a toothy smile, showing a pair of fangs. "What about now?"
"Nope." Alyss lied. "Are those things even real?"
Inside she was shaking, trying to figure out a way to get out of this situation. This truly was the worst day of her life.
"Of course they're real!" he shouted.
In a fit of rage he grabbed her arm, knowing what she would do. She tried to jerk away from him but he was too strong. Then she tried thrashing her body. She almost broke free but he grabbed her with his other arm. With no other option, she whipped her head around and bit his arm. Somehow she broke the skin and blood trickled from the wound. A small drop of blood landed on her tongue.
As soon as he saw the blood enter her mouth, he let go of her. There was no longer any use of brute force. He started to walk down the path that Alyss had been walking before. He knew she would follow because she had no other choice.
"What did you just do to me?" she asked.
She had to walk twice her normal speed to keep up with him. He was very quick despite his height.
"I didn't do anything, you did."
"Okay. What did I do?" she demanded.
He sighed. "My name is Ailill. As you saw, I am a vampyre, and now you are as well."
Alyss repeated that in her head a few times, trying to understand it.
Finally she said, "Well, don't you have to, like, bite me for that to happen?"
He chuckled. "That's what myths say. Really, all you have to do is drink some of my blood, which you just did."
They were both silent for a while. They just walked alongside each other in the moonlight.
"What am I going to tell my family? Won't they be a little freaked out by the fact that I'm immortal and drink blood?"
"About that. See, you can't make human contact-ever-unless it's feeding time. You can't talk to your parents, your old friends, nobody."
"You mean my only social life will be you?!" Alyss almost shouted.
"Calm down. There are other vampyres. You'll be more attached to me because you drank my blood, though."
Alyss let out a deep breathe. She wasn't even that mad. She was just confused. She felt really weird, too.
"That's just your body dying." he mumbled.
"You've got to be kidding me! You can read minds too?!" She didn't need get an answer. "Where are we even going?" He was still silent.
Alyss stopped dead in her tracks. She wasn't into surprises.
    "Answer me. Now."
"You need more blood. I'm taking you into town. You can feed there."
"You mean your going to make me eat one of my friends? No! No freakin' way!" she yelled.
"I knew you would act like this. Look, there's no other way, okay? It's either you eat, or you die."
"Can't we go to another town or something?"
"Sure, if you want to walk for three days."
Alyss sighed, yet again. "Fine. How much do I have to drink?"
"One person should keep you strong enough for two weeks."
    "Let's go then."
