• Chapter Six

    At Paradijs Weile

The lunch room was crowded with students and some of the teachers. Kali sat by herself at a table. She played with her mash potatoes waiting for her roommate. The food was fine it just that she was not hungry. “Are you going to eat that Kali?” Someone spoke to her. Kali looked to see her roommate Nola Coal. At the age of five, she found out that she was a snow Magische. Nola has been in the school for over 10 years. Kali smiled, “I’m just not that hungry.
Nola nodded, she place her books on the table and sat in front of her. Nola took one of Kali’s baby carrots of her tray waiting for her roommate to talk. Kali sigh thinking on her question. “Hey, Nola why do you want to get rid of your gift? If you call it a gift?” Kali finally took a bit of her potatoes. Nola shrugged her shoulders, “I do think of it as a gift to me, but also a curse. I mean, I love making snow. But also I hate the way the people treat me.
”Kali watched as her friend smile thinking of something. Then Nola continue, “My mother didn’t care if I had this gift, she just wanted me to be happy, so I came here to learn to get rid of it.” Kali wondered if her mother really cared if she was a magische. She was happy to see that one of the students was doing what made her happy and that her family supported her. The girls sat talking to each other about their lives, when the whisperers return.
This time, instead of trying to find who it was, Kali welcome them. Kali learn some many new spells that she didn’t know. She found out that she can choose which whisperer to listen to. Sometimes Kali would listen to some of the old spell she now knew. Pushing them away Kali went back to talking to Nola. Suddenly, some slap their table, which made them, jump out of their skin. Kali look to see a young boy, two years older than her, giving her a glare. Behind him stood two of his friends. Kali doesn’t know why he despises her that much. She actually would like to get to know him. “You don’t belong here!” He hisses to Kali. Nola rolled her eyes just giving them a glare back. I heard from Nola that he use to be a absorb Magische.
He was able to absorb other people gifts and make copies for himself. He got in trouble a lot and was sent here as a punishment. He tried fighting back, but later on just gave up. He and his two friends walked away to the doors of the room and left. Kali noticed that she was holding her breath and finally let it out. Nola shook her head turning back to Kali, “Weirdoes.” Nola whispered.
They sat for a while not saying anything to one another. Kali was shaking not from coldness, but fear. Nola clasped her held giving it a gentle squeeze. Kali and Nola knew it was going to be a long year.

    7Months Later

Annabel stood next to Surhomme looking at a cottage with wonder. 3 months ago, Surhomme and Annabel got married in a small ceremony. Her father wanted to invite the whole town, but she refused. She didn’t approve of her fathers ideas of a wedding with his friends and not hers. Annabel did invite Kali, but the headmaster said she was not ready for the real world. Surhomme grasp Annabel, rubbing her arm.
“Don’t worry; she will be coming home soon.” She smile leaning on his shoulder, “So what did the school say about Kali.” Annabel asks him. Gregonean refused Annabel to see her sister, for his own reputation. She allowed it only that she would send her husband instead. Surhomme sigh, “They said that she hasn’t improved since my last visit. They also say she keeps arguing with the teachers about the way they teach and oh ah, she been using her magic a lot as well.” He paused a moment before continue. “We have raised a rebel child. I’m so happy.” Annabel laugh, playfully pushing his side. They took each others hand and walk in the cottage praying to help Kali in some way.

    Room 752

Lying on her bed in the dark room, Kali listened to her whisperer, Kali’s only friend. Nola went home four days ago. She had no more of her snow magic and was allowed to leave. Kali searched through her whispers choosing one to listen to; when she remembers that she refused to do what the headmaster wanted. Kali somehow had the impulse to do this, she didn’t know why. Kali sigh thinking of her sister and her brother-in-law. She was furious that the headmaster didn’t allow her to go to the most important invent of her life.
Her sister’s wedding. Her thoughts were interrupted, when she heard a new whisper came up. Kali ignore the rest, only listening to this one. Kali smile loving this spell. It was a spell that allows you to see who loves you. The person would be glowing dark pink for romance. Kali jumps off her bed, grabbing her staff. The wooding part of her staff had many spell carved on it. She used the spell of craving to crave all the spells she learned. After craving the love finding spell, Kali walked over to her window. Looking down her eyes met the big Iron Gate.
Crap it was still there. Kali smile remember, how she used the spell of rust on it a long time ago. The headmaster was furious with rage. She thought she might have caught some foul language with it. Placing her staff back, next to her bed, and crawling under her covers; she prayed to God to watch over her family as she slept for the night. Soon Kali fell into a tranquil of sleep.

    Envisioned

Kali found herself in a place of darkness, nothing but pitch blackness. She was sitting there looking all around. Soon a glowing light appeared in front of her. Kali watched as the light grew closer to her. With wonder Kali spoke to it, “May I ask who you might be?” Lifting her hand to see someone or thing. The light, a light blue, stood above her. Bending down it spoke, “I was hoping you would know who I am.” The voice was sweet like honey on her tongue and gentle as a mother’s hand. Kali cocked her head to the side with colorless eyes of confusion. The light bent down, the top leveled with Kali’s face. “I am someone everybody knew, someone who is missing in the world, someone who made you.” Kali gasped now understanding who she is.
“Are you De Magie?” Kali whispers. Soon the light grew dim until she saw a beautiful young woman. She had long wavy blond hair; she had the same curved body as Kali. Her skin was pale and worked with her rosy pink eyes. Kali finally spoke, “Why are you visiting me De Magie?” Seating next to Kali she spoke, “Because child, you are magic,” Kali jumped shacking her head furiously. “No that is impossible, I can’t be just magic, cause if that is so then that would make you my…” Kali looked at De Magie. She nodded her head as she finished Kali’s sentence, “I am your mother.”
De Magie stood walking with graceful steps towards her. She placed her hands on Kali’s while pulling her to the floor. “Remember the story about the battle that Annabel told you a lot?” De Magie asks. Kali nods waiting to continue. “Well the little girl I gave you to was Annabel,” Smiling watching her daughters reaction. Kali sat with questions piling up in her head. She fish through it looking for the right question.
“De Magie, why did you choose me? I mean why did Annabel have to go through me?” De Magie sighed knowing she was going to ask the question. “It is hard for me to explain to you, I just can’t for some reason. But you must trust me on this ok?” Kali nodded asking more questions. De Magie sat with her answering all them, well maybe some of them. Later, De Magie Grasped her daughters chin looking her straight in her eyes, “Now Kali, must listen very carefully, I need you to leave this school as soon as possible alright. The Magische Menschen need you right now. I will guide you to the village but, escaping the school is your job. Do you understand?”
Kali nods as her mother continues, “The people of this world is depending on you, until your time will soon be gone.” De Magie kissed Kali’s forehead, before vanishing from the black eclipse. Very softly, Kali whispered good night to her mother.

    Headmaster’s Office

The headmaster sits in his chair reading a book about discipline. A knock on the door brought him out o the book. “Enter,” he spoke, watching Kali walk through the door. She is wearing a Magische gown that women wear in battles or wars. It shined from the scales of a dragon. The scales are useful to protect the person from weapons and fire; it also is light from weight and easy to move around in. The gown shimmered in blue with a green lighting striking from her side shoulder to the other side to her hip.
She also wore the medallion Drako gave her and her pearl necklace. Kali placed the tiara De Magie gave her this morning. It was silver circling her forehead with a crystal stone daggling from it. The stone is able to show her feelings to others. The headmaster has a problem of talking to Kali, not that he has already, it’s just he despise her the most. “Headmaster we need to talk about a certain subject,” Kali spoke while closing the door behind her.
The click sound of her staff hitting the floor irritated him even more. Kali walks to the window looking at the Iron Gate. She had the plan in her head, and so far it was going very well. “Can we talk outside; I feel better talking when all is watching,” Kali spoke softly. Before the headmaster could respond, she turns from the window walking out the door down the hall. The headmaster mutters a few foul words before following her.
Kali sends some mental invitations to some of the students to come and watch. Then the students told the others. Soon all the students got the message from her. As the headmaster followed Kali down the hall, most of the students came out of the classrooms and followed him. Soon they were 10feet from the gate starring at Kali. Taking a deep breath, Kali could smell a strong amount of magic on it. While talking to De Magie, she had taught her how to tell if someone was using magic.
Magic had a different sent than most humans would smell. This one had the smell of foul hatred. The gate had magic of runaways. The magic would prevent the students from runaway. The spell would place a person asleep if they were an inch from the gate. The only person who could open it would have to have a tail-mow bracelet. “Do you or any of the other teachers know what kind of magic I have?” Kali asks. The headmaster stood awhile before answering, “No, none of us know what your magic is.”
The headmaster gestured to one of the teachers to get the polizi here. “Then I don’t belong here than.” Kali responds to him, he was already turning red from her. “Evening if you don’t belong here, you will stay here forever or until you give up. We have seen your magic,” he shouted to her so everyone could hear. Kali spun around looking straight at the headmaster. Her eyes and the stone turned to a bright red with fury. “Wrong, headmaster you know nothing of me or where I should be and my magic. It is not your decision of what I should do with my magic as well.” Kali turns back to the gate pointing her staff at it.
From behind her she could hear the running sound of polizi coming. “You say no one can get through the gate of evening break the spell. Well watch me prove you wrong!” Kali shouts. The wind above them changed as she shouts out a counter spell, “With lock and chains that hold tight be broken with mine smite.” Everyone watched as a bright red glow circled the Iron Gate before vanishing with the wind. Kali breathed in knowing that the foul hatred dissolved with the spell.
Kali walks to the gate placing her hand upon it. She didn’t feel sleepy at all. Some of the students whispered while the gate was swung opening letting them know that she has freedom. Kali turns looking at the headmaster with triumphant. “By the way,” Kali yelled to him. “My real name is Zauberei!”
Before the headmaster’s polizi could grab her she flew off in the sky. As the bells ring for a warning of a runaway, one of the teachers walks next to the headmaster. “Doesn’t Zauberei mean magic?” He whispers.
