• ~Chapter One~

I walked home under the crescent moon. My eyes searching....searching for what? The leaves crunching under my feet, the Autumn wind blowing all around me. I heard a tree branch snap and I whipped around. No one was there. My eyes searched the never ending darkness for moving shadows. I found none and kept on walking. I smelled a luscious scent, my nostrils flared. I knew that smell, it was....blood. There on the other side of the street was a boy about my 'age'.

I smiled, my fangs potruding. I walked silently over to him. He seemed a bit distracted. I tapped on his shoulder and he jumped and turned around. I smiled warmly, making sure my fangs didn't show. He blinked as if he was in some kind of stupor. "Hello.", I said. "H-Hi.", he stuttered.

My smiled widened. "What's your name?", I asked. He looked surprised. "Derek" "Nice to meet you Derek. My names Synester, Syn for short.", I winked at him and he seemd to gasp. He nodded looking a bit pale. "Do you mind if we take a walk?", I asked.

He jumped and shook his head. We walked for a few minutes in silence. "How old are you?", I asked. "17.You?" I smirked. If only he knew I've been stuck like this since 1588. I was actually 421 years old. I had gotten turned when I was 17. I stiffled a laugh and said, "17." I frowned a little. "What's your favorite color?", he asked, hands trembling. "Black,Blue, and Blood red.", I said. He nodded. "Same here, just not blood red." I smirked a little. He smiled sheepishly.

I nodded,I looked up to see him. His raven black hair covering his right eye. His pale complexion staggering; he had dark purple bruising under his eyes. Probably from lack of sleep. His snakebites shone brightly in the dull moonlight. His eyes such a beautiful shade of green, almost like emeralds. All I could do was stare, he was so beautiful.

The bloodlust consumed me. Its fiery presence burning into my veins. It surged through me with such uncontrollable bloodlust. I couldn't take it anymore, my nostrils flared as the scent of him surrounded me. A deep growl escaped my chest. I cleared my throat. The burning itch of thirst wouldn't cease in my throat. My eyes blazed.

"I have to go.",I said hastily. He gave me a puzzled look. "Why?", he seemed hurt. I looked at him hungrily, I needed to leave. NOW. "Reasons." Then I left in a hurry, trying to walk at a normal human pace. As soon as he was out of sight I starting running, and soon running turned into flitting. I listened to the whistling of the wind in my ears and tried so hard,(and unsuccessfully),to block out every thought of him. 'What's happening?, Why am I feeling this way?, I thought.

I stopped, my breathing fast and shallow. All I could do was think about Derek. How is it that a mere human can capture my heart so quickly? How? I sat down in the long green grass, the moon shining bright above me. I just layed there, looking up at the crescent moon, thinking of him. I sighed. "UGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!", I screamed. This cannot be happening. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts way.

'How is it possible that I could fall in love with a human?', I thought ,'in all my years I have never heard of such a thing.' I heard something move, then a twig snapped. I sat up in one quick movement.

I looked around. It was him! I could smell it. How could he have found me so fast?Unless time had passed by real quickly. "Derek?",I called into the forest. I heard him clear his throat. "Yeah,it's me.....I..umm....sorta followed you. Ummm...why'd you run?" He emerged from the forest, his emerald eyes sparkling. I stared at him wide-eyed. 'Can I trust him?', I thought.

I decided to tell him anyway. "I don't want to tell you.I mean I want to, it's just that it would be better ,safer, not to tell you. It's complicated.", I sad fidgeting with my fingers. 'Can I truly trust in him? Am I just risking my whole race on a mere human?', I thought.

He sat down beside me, his scent maddening. I know since I am undead, I have no heartbeat. I didn't need to breathe. I held my breath. "Ummm...so your not gonna tell me?", he said after awhile. My stomach had been tied in a knot, now someone had tied it tighter. I pulled my knee's up to my chest and thought about it. "If you tell anyone, you will be in grave danger.", I said. He just looked at me and nodded.

I breathed out and inhaled. "Ok,....you might laugh though." "I won't laugh, just tell me." I took a deep breath. "I-I'm a vampire.", I stammered. I looked at him and he seemed to be in shock. "Y-Your a v-vampire?", he asked, stuttering. I nodded slowly. "Can I see your fangs?", he asked quietly after awhile. I sighed, but opened my mouth. I let my fangs potrude and he gasped. I closed my mouth. He just stared at me while I looked down at the grass.

I pulled at the grass. I hated it when people stared at me. "Umm...er....so......do you guys really drink.....blood?", he asked. I looked up at him and he made a weird face. I assumed he's not a big fan of blood. I nodded slowly and he wrinkled his nose in distaste.

"Yes we do. It's a bit hard for me right now, seeing as your blood...smells awfully delectible.", I said. "Oh...ummm......do you want me to leave? I'll go.", he said sadly, then he started to get up. I grabbed his jacket sleeve and tugged on it slightly. "No,no it's fine...it's just that...I haven't fed in awhile. Thats all. Please, don't go.", I said.

He sat back down, his eyes on the ground. A few minutes of silence passed by. "I would let you......feed off of me.", he said quietly. I stared at him bewildered. He looked at me and jumped slightly. He got even closer to me, not afraid of me at all. Our bodies were only an inch apart.

I could hear him breathing fast. "I don't know why, but I feel like I should be with you. I know we don't know eachother that well and that's ok with me. I feel like I should be by your side, protecting you....loving you.", he said quickly, blushing a little. My breath caught in my throat.

It was quiet. All I could do was stare at him. No human has ever said this to me. Humans rarely talked to me, unless I befriended them. I couldn't think of anything to say. I just sat there, staring at him like I was dumb or mentally handicapped. "If I feed off of you....it will make you like me. There's no turning back. It's a curse...but also a gift. It will hurt, but only for a few seconds. It's your choice not mine.", I said, not looking at him.
