• This was once a couple made of best friends, a boy and a girl. She loved him, no she adored him, but he was too foolish to see that she worshiped him. He loved another person, a girl who was far inferior to his best friend. The best friends had been friends since the beginning of time, only recently had the girl, Serenity, seemed to have been bothered that her best friend was a boy, actually no doubt about it, the best looking boy at school.
Her friend's name was Danny and he told her everything and likewise with her. She was the first to know his crush and he was the first one to know about her latest band frenzy. They had never kept a secret from each other until now, just because Serenity fell head over heels for Danny. Every time he walked passed her in the hallway and said hello or waved to her, she blushed instead of returning the hi or waving back. He was the first and only person who noticed her change, but he was the only one who didn't know that she secretly adored him.
When they were in their twenties, he got married to his life long crush and Serenity was left out. She smiled at their wedding, but cried at home. For the rest of her life she never got married and she never stopped loving Danny. Serenity couldn't take it any more. Life hurt her more than anyone could tell. She decided once and for all that she would leave, leave the place where all her pain came from-Danny. He was her one weak spot, the only person who knew just how to hurt her. He was her best friend as well as being her sorrow.
On her last day in the same town as Danny she left a letter in Danny's pocket, in the pocket of his jacket that he hadn't worn in a very long time, his jacket from high school. In fact it was his favorite jacket from high school that he would never toss. She knew he wouldn't, well of course she knew everything about him, she also knew that he would check the pockets before tossing it, but wouldn't check the pockets in along time. On the letter in spidery handwriting she had wrote:
    My dear, dear Danny,
You care so much about me, yet you don't. So loving, and yet so mean to not realize my love for you. Your hugs make me feel protected. Loved.Comforted. And yet your hugs sting, just to know that I couldn't have you. That you loved someone else and, I just wanna be yours.
Even if you are not mine I hope to be forever yours.
Loved and adored by yours truly,
    Serenity </3

    20 years later...
A tired middle- aged man walked through the doors with the wind and snow blowing, twirling around him as two teenagers ran up to him and hugged him tightly, securely. He smiled and laughed gently. It was another long day at the office and yet these two simple beings brought him so much happiness. They were his only two joys. They were twins and their mother had died giving birth, so they never knew their mom.
The kids dispersed from him and he walked up the lonely hallway to his plain room. For some reason he had this urge to pull out his old high school jacket. His shadow loomed over his closet as he opened his closet and pulled out his heavy black leather bomber. He looked in the pockets and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper that started to yellow at the edges. The edges opened up to him and he read the letter from Serenity, his favorite companion.

He sat there shocked and saddened. So that was what happened to Serenity. He had always thought that serenity had died, but no. She had left him because he had hurt her. Hours passed and his daughter, Serenity(named after his best friend), walked in. "Dinner's ready,"she whispered.
He stood up and inquired in a dreamy tone, "Did I ever tell you who that girl was in the pictures? The one with black hair and the sad grey eyes?"
    "That's my mom isn't it?"
    "No."
    "Who is it?"
"She's my best friend. My favorite companion. Get your brother and I shall tell you about her."
    "OK."
"You were named after her you know."
Danny told his kids everything about Serenity. Their crazy adventures, their secrets, and their thoughts. "I need to find her," finished Danny, "She still loves me and I still love her. I've always loved her. I was just too shy to tell her."
