Chapter 10~Dark Justice~
The battle of Versailles had taken its toll on many people. Even the once prosperous city, is now a graveyard of tyranny. It's signs like these that reveal the terror and horrors of the truth. The truth of what we fight for and what we all fight with. I have never seen such strange events occur in battle. The grounds are now scarred, battered, and terrifying because of the horrible events that two leaders had made. Yes, I am talking about myself, because I have made bad decisions during this battle. How could I have created this bloody mess that we have seen here today? The dead have left their marks on this world by leaving their gasmasks and helmets. My battle cam is scanning the torn city and is viewing the last moments of this battle. Mortar shells have grown to a halt, blood has quit spilling, the body count slows down, and emotional damage has dramatically increased. Little pieces of flesh, bone, and organs now cover this city, along with the thousands of human beings lying under the toppled skyscrapers. To everyone else in the world, today was a day of justice, but to me and everyone on that battlefield, today was a day of darkness. Secrets were revealed today, in this battle, of how far two leaders are willing to go to win this war. I was about to leave the cavern I have set myself in, until a flashing calling message revealed on to my screen. I went back to my station and blocked of the caller's trace before answering the call. The first thing to appear on the screen was a video of General Shadows, but he looked completely different. Instead of the joking face he used to make, he created his poker face. This face scared me deeply, because if I can turn a mad man serious, I have become something worse than him. Crow's feet were under his maroon eyes, his silver hair was messed with, and his jacket was torn on the right side. "Today, Tim, you have shown me that you are a nation. Now, you have pulled the last nerve I had left. Now, you will feel the pain that you deserve. Choose your moves wisely, because if you take one more mistake like you did here, I will completely destroy your nation with nuclear warfare." Shadows said darkly. He meant serious business, but why was he only messing with me before? I was also serious and had a pker face of my own. My emerald eyes were narrowed in to his eyes and my brown, short hair was tampered with like Shadows's hair is like. "I get what you mean, demon. The thing I don't understand is why you didn't do that before. You saw your enemy growing but you didn't shoot them down with your missiles." I said to Shadows with a curious face. He thin grin crawled on to his face. "I had a huge weight holding me from doing it before but now you killed him. You remember that dummy I had set up in the window? The dummy that tricked the foolish Ferris? Well, he was the president of the Imperialists. You did something I couldn't do, and now you have released a demon that will do ANYTHING to destroy his foes. New rules have been established and you better listen to them. If you interfere with my work, I will press a button and BOOM! You and the resistance will be gone in no time. Also, I am keeping you alive so that you can do a favor for me, nothing else." He said in a serious voice. I slammed my fist in to the desk. "Don't lie to me! You don't want me to do you errands! You just want to keep the ace you have right now, because other rebellions have begun to rise! The battle done here has given hope to the ones who needed it. Now, you have a large problem erupting all over your kingdom and you have no solution." General Shadows nodded and made a bigger grin. "You got me. You have yet to see my true potential. Many things are still hidden from you, Tim. I haven't fought an opponent as strange as you, but you have never fought a guy like me. Even though we are enemies, I want to give you some advice. Even though, humans search for their main objective they destroy others along the way." After that statement, the video shut off between me and General Shadows. I mean President Shadows. After the news-breaking conversation, I sat in the cavern for a little while just to think about and absorb the events that had just happened with in a matter of 5 hours. Many lives had been destroyed under my control and that made me the one to blame. Yes, I did the right thing for us, but did I do the right thing the right way or did I just create dark justice. I created a weapon beyond true belief, but because of this I have given a dangerous idea in to a mad man's mind. The ideas running through Shadows's mind right now cannot be good. He wants revenge and with the power that I have granted him by destroying his obstacle, he can destroy this nation with in a second. Although, I should not anger him because he holds my best friends wife hostage. Kimi is Corey's thread of life, because if she goes, he goes. What am I supposed to do? I am in a compromising position and it is difficult to escape. I guess I will just have to enjoy the congratulatory party for the troops. I got out of the dark cavern and immediately I saw Tsunade running towards me. She looked very disgruntled and sad. There were stains of tears running down her cheeks but now she was more mad than sad. Right when she got to me, she lifted up her arm and smacked me square in the cheek. I probably could have stopped her but she deserved to hit me. I knew why she was angered and if this was her way of calling me an idiot, let her. "How could you, Tim? Do you realize how much people lost their lives because of your 'Guardian angel'? What came over you?" She said looking at me as I looked at her with the same poker face I had with Shadows. "I sought out peace. Never did I believe the powers could be this devastating." All of this was true but nieve. "Stop making excuses because that is all you ever do! Tell me answers not lies." She said backing away from me. I could tell she hurt from every word that slipped off of her lips. "Your right, it is an excuse, but it is true. I am stupid for creating such a weapon." I told Tsunade but she wouldn't listen. "I don't care about that, Tim. What I care about is what country I am living in. Look at what you did and you said that you were for peace." She said with her eyes wide with shock. "That is what war is for. Everything needs to be destroyed before being recreated. Am I right?" I said simply. "No, your not right. That makes you evil and exactly like the Imperialists." She was accidentaly trying to make me angry. "Watch what you say Tsunade, because I find that quite rude." I said biting on my bottom lip. "Why? Can't take the truth. That is why you are exactly like General Shadows." The last words were cold and bitter. My eyelids flew open letting my angered eyes burst with fire. With no resistance, my arm flew up and hit her square in the face. She stood there with a red mark across he right cheek. Two hands covered her wound and she began to kneel on the ground. Tears streaked her face and she wouldn't stop. I must be a monster for what I have just done. "Tsunade, I didn't mean it. I am sorry." I said trying to calm her down but she stood up with her back to me and she began to walk away from me while crying. I tried talking to her. "Tsunade I am sorry. Hit me back. Do anything." I pleaded to get her back. Nothing worked, but it made her cry continously so I stopped. She began to fade away in to the dark and left me there to rot. Maybe she is right. Maybe I am truly a beast and will do anything to kill Shadows. My mind began to grow in to deep, dark confusion. I went home and dressed up for the party. I am trying so hard to rid of these memories. The events executed have taken their toll on me and everyone else in this nation. Even with this toll I have to continue on, so I got on the plane for France. Tsunade was on the same plane but she asked to be placed next to the pilots because I was in the back. This depressed me even more. Tsunade was the only person I truly trusted with my secrets and everything else I bottled up with in me. With her gone, I feel very lonely all over again. Now, I hope that seeing my friends again will bring me happiness. Once the plane landed, I got out first because of the crowd that surrounded the plane. They were the French resistance and the Holy Knights with one knight missing. "Congratzulationz, Tim, and zank you. With your 'knightz', I dizcuzzed zome negotiationz. I am proud to tell you that we are now joining ze U.N.W." The French general said while holding out his hand in agreement. I shook it back with a fake smile spreading on my face. While talking with the French General, I saw Tsunade get off of the plane and she watched me with hate raging in her eyes. Maybe it was better for her to hate me. Later, I entered the party with lots of congrats coming from everyone. Most were apart of the U.N.W. and thought that I had done good. Everytime someone congratulated me I flinched. Although, I knew that most of them were just wearing the mask of fake happiness. Yes, we won the battle but with dark, bloody choices. Everything in the party seemed to be going very well, most were conversing among themselves about the events of the war. I had to do a speech for this party so I headed towards the podium. While walking to the podium, I looked at the ornate windows and lighting. A lot of work was put in to this party, because no other building looked like this palace. Once at the podium, everyone silenced their energetic conversations to look at me. I was putting on a mask. A mask full of smiles and lies. My true face was one of confusion and pain. Before the speech started, I looked in to the crowd one last time. Men, women, and children were at the party with smiles coating their worn out faces. I have stricken hope in to a community of the hopeless. "Thank you for the patience you have given to me. All of us have suffered under the vicious Imperialists. You may have done things in the past that you regret, but today is a time of jubilation. We only helped purge you from the tyranny of General Shadows." I took a pause to regain composure. "Although, we are happy, let us not forget the ones who have died today. Soldiers were shot for their beliefs, citizens burned for their passion, and families torn apart by war. These are the things that I regret during this battle. I do have to recognize two war heroes though. Both are now deceased, but will live on in a better place. One of these heroes is Private Ferris. He was a good kid with lots of passion and rage. During the course of battle he chose to do a noble objective." Everyone in the audience was paying deep attention to the story and some were crying from the painful memory. "Ferris went to assasinate General Shadows, the mind teaser. When the brave Ferris shot 'Shadows', he was full of joy. The only thing was he killed an imposter who looked like Shadows. The real General Shadows was behind him and when Ferris figured this out, a bullet had already pierced right through him. So now I award the spirit of Private Ferris." I grabbed the golden badge with the Eagle and the Snake on it and placed it down in front of a picture of Ferris from when he was a recruit. None of the Holy Knights were looking at the ceremony. They just kept their heads down while fighting off the tears bulging in their eyes. "Private Ferris's tutor, Isaiha Green, was also shot down but not by General Shadows. He grew a close bond with Private Ferris and they were soon like brothers. When Shadows shot down his brother, his mind finally snapped and he decided it best if he could avenge his fallen comrade. Bravery destroyed his fear of death and with all of the strength he could muster up, he charged through a bundle of smoke towards Ferris. Isaiha took down several other Imperialists down with him on his way to Ferris. He took our flag and raised it high in the air. By doing this, a flame that lurked in the souls of the men in the trenches grew by three times the original size. Thousands of men charged up to that base with the French rebellion giving a huge reinforcement back up. Except, by the time they got up to the HQ, Isaiha was declared dead with seven bullet wounds through him. I call these wounds the Seven Deadly Sins. I know that I will never forget about these two brave souls and the other souls that gathered enough bravery to march onwards through this battle. Everyone fought with the strength of a million suns. I hope everyone else will never forget about this tragedy and victory." Afterwards, I left to go outside and get some fresh air. Corey, Kyle, and Justin walked outside and looked at me. Corey was the first one to speak. "Tim, what you did there was foolish and sloppy. You made yourself look bad and now I don't know if I should respect you or leave you." He said with confusion while Justin and Kyle nodded. "You have every right to hate me. Although, that doesn't mean you have to leave the U.N.W." I said with my emotionless expression again. Now, I felt like crap. No one was with me on this. No one cared if I was dead now. "Yeah, Tim, the next time you want to kill off a member of the Holy Knights, call me." Kyle said as all three of them left. I couldn't stand it anymore, but I still had to do one favor for an old friend before leaving. Taking a motorcycle, I left to the ruins of the Imperialist HQ in Versailles. Once there, I walked slowly through the mortar craters, bullet cases, and rubble of torn buildings. Blood still marked on the land but a few throusand bodies were still on the surface with maggots covering their bodies. Guns lie on the ground with some kind of scar on them. I got to Isaiha and Ferris's bodies after an hour of walking around. They didn't have maggots on them but they were both blood and dirt stained. Tears let loose on to their wounds as I stared at their lifeless bodies. "It was all my fault. I am sorry." I said with tears choking my voice. Nothing was making sense anymore. With all of the anger in me I screamed," Why?! What did these two innocent men do to deserve such a fate!" My fists were clenched together and i punched the wall to my right. A hole burst through wall because of all the pounding the building took. I picked up my two comrades and I carried them on my shoulders. They were too heavy and I was losing the will to continue but I had to do this for Isaiha and Ferris. I owe them that much for letting them die this way. I was in the back of the HQ when I fell from my empty strength. I didn't even try to get back up. I wanted to decay with these two bodies. I lied there for about two hours when I began seeing things. An image of an old friend appeared in front of me. I recognized him by the scar on his left cheek. The mirage was Xavior Skar. "Tim, what are you doing? Are you giving up?" Xavior said with a straight face. I just nodded in return. "Why do you give up your hopes and dreams?" He asked moving closer to me. "I give up because all I am doing is letting everyone die. My choices have now destroyed this world. Look I killed Isaiha and Ferris." I said with my face full of grief. "Tim, you do not choose who dies. They get to choose that themselves. Isaiha chose to die because of his passion. Ferris chose to die because of his dreams. Your soldiers were willing to die to win their freedom back from the Imperialists." Xavior said in a stern tone. His speech was a smack to the face and it awoke me from my slumber of doubt. "What about the Imperialists?" I asked confused. Xavior looked me deep in the eye. "I asked myself that question also, but I want you to figure out for yourself. Please tell Shadows I said hi." After that he left in to the darkness. I got back up and began digging the graves for the two brave soldiers that gave their lives for what they believed in. Without these two men giving away their lives, we would have never won that battle. "I hope you two get the respect you deserve for what you did." I said to the graves that lie underneath me.
