Chapter 3 ~New Life~
"I guess this means you're happy to see me then?" Tsunade asked with an innocent face. She seemed a little too eager to see me again. A big smile drew across her face, but I could see the anger dwelling with in her blue eyes. To be honest, she was beginning to scare me more than ever before. I had nearly almost forgot the question because the state of shock I was in. "To be honest, no. It is actually quite akward." I stated while rubbing behind my head. It felt strange to be around someone who you hurt deeply. Guilt was spreading throughout my mind and it wasn't letting up one bit. Tsunade was understanding the confusion going on in my mind. Her and Tim always had the ability to read people as if they were a textbook. "It is alright. I am going to be honest, also. I haven't forgiven you for Tim's death and I may never forgive you." She said with pain inflicting her in the inside. Tsunade had turned her head back to the front of the car so I wasn't able to see her face. There was a long period of silence, but when I saw a sign that said we were entering the Rhine Valley, I had to ask for what was going on. "Why are we in Germany? I mean sector 13, if you prefer?" I asked with confusion. The EP renamed the contries that they took over in to sectors. It was easier for them to "order" the citizens. Sadly, most ctizens that got taken over by this government was sent to the ghettos. The ghettos were just ruins of war. "Yes, we are entering Germany." Tsunade stated with a long emphasis on Germany. "I am saddened that for any partner I had to have you. Who gives a commander a private?" Tsunade said with her words trying to prod at me. Unfortunately, the prodding worked on me. My teeth gritted together, but I wasn't going to yell at her. In the end I would only make myself look like more of the bad guy. "What am I your partner for?" I said with restraint leaking in my voice. The question had needed to be said. "He was right about you. He said that you were tough, but not fully trained." Tsunade answered back to me. I was confused even more and the anger dispersed from my body while replacing it with curiousity. "Who said that? Tim?" I asked pushingly. Tsunade flinched and looked down. "Yes, Tim said that." She said while looking out the tinted windows. After I thought about how much I just hurt her, I realized that she never answered my question. "Are you ever going to answer my question about what we are doing in Germany?" I asked with a furrow growing on my face. She was becoming angered by my eagerness, but that wasn't my problem. She ignored everything I had asked and I would not stand for that. "Alright, ill-mannered child. We are here to do a spy mission for Zero." Tsunade said with no emotion. She sounded more bored with me than angered. My eyes were fueled with anger and I slammed my fist on to the seat next to me. The leather had made it sound louder than I wanted it to be. Zero had lied to me about the fort, but why? Why would Zero lie to me? "We are now brother and sister, Corey Sawyer." Tsunade said with her face turning a bright pink from the laughter held with in her. She was trying to be as serious as possible with this assignment, but I could se the seams were going to break soon. She also gave me a formal uniform for some sort of special occasion. Taking a closer look at the uniform, I could see that it was used to be worn in private academies in the EP. Oh no, was all that went through my mind. "Oh yeah, we also go to the Munich Academy. You are two grades higher than I am. Your a senior in highschool." Tsunade said with casual tone. I was still in the fog in this conversation. The information that I was getting was sounding a lot like a prank. Was this my punishment? "This is all serious business. I can tell that you think that I am still in the angered state of Tim's.......death." Tsunade said with trouble. She continued with more authority. "The mission will last for atleast the rest of the year, according to Zero." She said still looking at the front window. I was beginning to believe this mission as a reality. Zero wouldn't let her play pranks on me this easily. Would he? My mind was shifted when the car began to shake frantically. "What is happening?" I asked to Tsunade. She was trying to keep the car in balance. A mushroom cloud was spotted in the northeast. There is no way that Shadows would have shot a nuclear warhead at the ghettos. Was this truly the best place to be going to school? To me it sounds extremely dangerous. "That isn't a nuke, but there was a lot of impact in that explosion. We should take a closer look." She said trying to get out of the car. I grabbed on to her forearm. Even though she was my higher commander, I couldn't obey this order. "We must follow orders from Zero. You might have changed your appearance, but you would still easily get caught by Shadows." I saw that she understood what I was trying to get through to her, but she still had the urge to investigate. "How can we let the ghettos get raided in our faces? You out of all people should understand." Tsunade said with the same casual face. I had given a small smile. I would understand, Tim and me used to beat down Imperialists. Most of the time it was just because they were picking on someone like us. Those were some good times, but those times were now over. I shook my head vigorously while I tried getting rid of the memories. "Come on. We must get going to the new academy. Tim would have wanted that." I said looking in to her eyes. She seemed to give up all of her will by the sound of his name. It was a shocker to see someone give up a fight just because of a simple name. We were about five miles from the academy and the ride so far has become a mini adventure. For the past twenty minutes, the car ride had become silent. Tsunade was in her own world for the time being and I was wondering about this whole academy thing. After a while, the subject began to bore me and I dropped it. The new subject was about the mushroom cloud that was seen nearby in Munich. Who could have shot that off? Something was going on within this ghetto. I want to know who is in there, because so far this is leading to another rebellion. What would I do even if I did find out who it was? The radio station that we were listening to was becoming a talk show and it was terrible to listen to. It talked about the recent ghetto investigations, but something caught my attention. "Today, Frank, a new rumor is going around the ghettos. A large explosion had taken place in the subways and it was said that the rebels had caused it." One of the men said to a man named Frank. "You're right, but that means some more interrogating in the ghettos. What do you say abou that Buck?" My ears were glued to the radio as I listened to the broadcasters talk about the mushroom cloud. "Well, rumors have it that a strange voice on a radio saved the rebels from death. The man had called himself X. I was shocked myself about the strange name. I guess I wouldn't want Shadows chasing me either." I sat there with a dumbstruck expression. A man that had the name of X was ravaging the streets? Was this man good or evil? I looked to Tsunade to see if she was listening. When I went to see her, she had already been glowing with rays of curiousity. "No." That was all I could say to her. Tsunade's grin had come to a halt. "I wasn't thinking about going on a hunt for the man. Unless we can some way fit that in." She said and all I did was ignore the statement. She was becoming like a teenager all over again. "Focus on your schoolwork first." I said with a small chuckle. Tsunade giggled a bit herself, but that only lasted for a few moments. "Did you ever realize that you are going to need a make over? I mean I had to do a small one, because I am only 21. You need a bigger one because you are 25." She said while outlining the furrow that was drawn on my face. I had a body that looked like I was eighteen at the least. She was just saying that about me because I was in the military and its years had taken its toll on me. I hope that she was joking around about the making me over thing. The car stopped at the academy while my eyes stuck to the academic school. This was a place that only I could dream about. There was a golden arch to enter the academy's grounds and within the beautiful exterior is a bed of flowers. "So this is where the tax payer's money is heading off to. It is a beautiful sight, but definitely not worth the suffering." Tsunade interrupted me with the hurtful slap of reality. She was right, though. I guess I can't complain about their pain for it will only urge me to corrupt myself. Tsunade watched me intently as I began thinking to myself. "Really, brother." Tsunade said with sarcasm. I waved my fist at her in fake frustration. "Cool down, Corey. I am only practicing." She said with laughter. She was just enjoying the time that she had to make fun of my status. How was I sucked in to this mess? "We have many classes together with the help of Zero. I don't know how he does it, but he is good at it. Remember that my eyes will watch you like an eagle." Tsunade warned me intesly. I saluted her away with the two fingers. She wasn't going to ruin this academic experience for me. "I will make sure to do the same thing about you."I repeated to her. After that, she left to get changed in the girls dorm. My task was to get situated with my classes and to make some new friends. I made my way down the main path to the front entrance while taking directions from the map that I held in my hands. A man with short blonde hair came up to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. I quickly backed away with a defensive side. "Relax, man, I am on your side of things. Apparently, you don't have many friends around here. If it makes you feel any better about me, I am James Spinner." James said with his hand held out towards me. He was an Imperialist, but he seemed nice enough to become friends with. Of course, this doesn't mean that I am going to become the best of friends with this guy. Before he became aware of my thought process, I reached out to shake his hand. His grip tightened with his enlightened attitude. James seemed to have the grip of a pilot for the air force. "I need to get changing. I hope I see you around James." I said with a small smile growing on my face. I took off in a hurry towards the boys dorms. Inside, there was red carpet leading the way to the dorms. It was all too fancy for my own eyes to handle. Awe and hate swarmed the insides of my body. With these two, a mixture of confusion began to form. I found the dorm room that I was located in. A shocking note was left on the door leaving my mind in thicker fog. I picked the letter off the door. All it stated was that I should have a fun time within the academy. A warm welcome did feel nice, but this wasn't the same emotion that I ever got from the Imperialists. An experience like this was never given to people from the lowly ghettos. I feel bad for the children that have to suffer in the ghettos at times like this. Maybe one day I can reunite the children of this generation back with this expert learning experience. My presence here was more of a fearful thing to me than I thought. I was behind enemy lines and if I get caught, I would be sentenced to death. How am I to survive in a place like this? The day had become such a chore. First, I had to deal with many tardies because of the old map. The academy had an improvement added to it about a year ago and I asked the office where my classes were located. Thankfully, the office ended up giving me a new map to go around the academy. Second, Tsunade wasn't to be seen in any of my classes today. Where was she at? Did she understand that I was afraid to come to this academy? I guess that she just bailed out on her half of this assignment. If Tsunade believes that she won't hear my anger because she is from the girls dorm, then she is terribly wrong. I wandered through the dorm rooms looking for her room number. She tried to conceal her number from me for some odd reason, but the office was able to get a hold of it for me. Zero was pretty good at planning these sorts of things. I found her room after ten minutes of searching intensively. I gave a knock on the door with courtesy. Even though I was angry, I needed to get inside and show my anger. This small joke made me grin a bit. She didn't answer the door after a few minutes of pure silence. Now my mind was in a curious phase. A rash and reasonable way that I came to thinking of breaking down her door. Then again, I could just use the duplicate key that the office gave to me just in case my "sister" was in any sort of trouble. When I opened up the door, I saw an empty room. There was a noise coming from the west, but I didn't care about that. No note was left by her, but there had to be. What could she be doing now? It was as if she was my sister, because I have to keep track of every step that she takes. "I guess I will just stay on this comfortable bed for now. She has to come back one way or the other." I said to myself as I lie on the soft bed. It sure beats the hell out of straw beds from back home. It is quite funny now that I go back to those times in the ghetto. Tim was always thinking to himself and depending on me to help him out. If I would have acted sooner then his future might have turned out differently. The noise heard to the west turned off suddenly. Bored, I decided to chase after the dispersed noise. It may take some time before Tsunade gets back anyways. I slowly walked towards the noise. I ended up by the sink of the dorm. The whole sink was made with quartz rock and the knobs were pure diamond. This is quite an extraordinary sight indeed. My mind's trail had led off in to a strange path, but it was set back on track by the sliding of a door. A figure appeared through a thick cloud of mist. "Damn. Talk about your mind turning in to fog." I said as the figure in front of me stopped in its tracks. "W-who's there?" A woman's voice said. She sounded more of a fighter than an actual Imperialist. The mist dispersed and the womanly figure finally came out of hiding. Long, scarlet hair fell down to her shoulders with the water dripping from the ends of her hair. A towel wrappped around her with her arms crossed to keep it up. Embarassment had crossed both of our faces. She was naked and wet. I fell backwards as an incredible force hit me in the chest. She had used the palm strike against my ribs to make me stunned for a small amount of time. "What the hell are you doing here, creep?!" She asked with anger rising in her voice. I was out of words for this question. My mind was blank, but embarassment just made that even worse. Both of us looked towards the door in confusion. There was a key turning in the slot and the door was opened slightly. Tsunade walked through the door with a sign of relief on her face. When she looked at the two of us, I only waved to her in confusion. I hope she doesn't kill me. "Hi." I squeaked out to her. "What the hell are you doing here, Corey?" Tsunade said with irritation. My mind was still foggy, but I remember the answer for that question. "I was looking for you, sister?" The woman in the towel just stared at me with her ferocious eyes. "Please, just get this ignorant boy out of here. There are enough things on my mind." She said gripping on the towel for dear life. My mind was sidetracked to the thought of the mysterious figure X. "I am new here, m'am. May I ask a question to you?" I asked with curiousity. She was suprised at my instant question. "Well, if it gets you out of here. What is it? By the way, my name is Crystal." She said simply while she hid within the closet. Inside of there, she changed so that she didn't have to hold the damp towel. "This man that goes by the of X, has he shown up before today?" I asked her. I thought that someone who was with the Imperialists might know. The answer took her a while to think about. I was eager to know the answer and was willing to go on an investigation. It looks like the U.N.W. had found a new ally to work with. "No. He just appeared today from the middle of no where. The rebels must have been suprised by his appearance. Apparently, it had saved their lives." The woman had said in confusion. So there were rebels held within this place. This was getting better and better by every answer I got. Tsunade looked like she was enjoying the new info as much as me. "Do you know anything about the rebels?" I asked impulsively. She had walked out of the closet with her school uniform on. A tan coat, short black skirt, and white stockings was the woman's uniform. "No!" She said with an outburst. I was confused in this obsurd response. "I am going for a little while. Please don't wait up for me if I am not back tonight." Crystal said and she left the room. I decided that I should leave for the time being.
