Hobbies: Family -- Asher takes parenting very seriously, and spends a good portion of his time supporting his son’s hobbies; he has gone to every baseball game, every debate, every track meetup,
everything he could possibly attend. He and his family take regular outings and spend time together frequently; he is very involved in making sure his son grows up happy and healthy. Asher also takes his duties as husband very seriously and works very hard to support his spouse in all things. He prioritizes his family over just about everything and can often be found talking about how proud of them he is.
Homecare -- The first house he and his husband ever owned was a fixer-upper and they worked very hard to be able to do as much as possible themselves. Asher loves bringing life into a house that’s a bit beat down, and he loves breaking things. But also putting them back together, better. And, he gets to do math. He helps with gardening but does a lot of lawn care, and enjoys renovation and construction. When he can’t do any work on the house, he enjoys watching television shows where other people get to.
Life Skills -- Asher oversees a ‘Life Skills’ club after school; similar to home ec, but he understands that sometimes you don’t want to be graded while trying to learn new things. It’s open to everyone, and sometimes he even teaches classes at more public centers accessible to everyone. He puts in the extra effort because he knows there are people who don’t have others they can ask and he wants to make sure that nobody has to tackle life alone. He gives out his email regularly so people can ask questions or make requests, and has a blog and channel online to keep lessons accessible. What he doesn’t know, he can learn, or find people to help him.
Music -- In his high-school days, Asher was in a band. He played guitar, did backup vocals, and wrote lyrics. While he gravitated towards gothic rock (and still does), he has dabbled in a few genres. He still likes to play and compose but doesn’t do much with the music except serenade his husband. He’s volunteered to play at some local events, and typically makes his own background music for his channel. He does not care who sees him jamming out in the car.
Virtues: Hardworking -- Asher always gives his best efforts; he never does anything half-heartedly and while he isn’t a perfectionist, he does the best that he can. If he’s unsatisfied with something or lacks experience, he will pursue those who are more skilled than he is so he can improve. If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. He has a good work ethic and strives to be a good role model. Hard work requires effort, and sometimes sacrifice, but it’s worth it in the end.
Compassionate -- Asher has a big heart and it’s easy for him to practice empathy towards others. He cares about others and often goes out of his way to give them any extra support he can to keep them going. He is very protective of others and will go out of his way to stand up for them. He is kind and supportive and gives others the benefit of the doubt even in the worst situations.
Easygoing -- Asher is an easy person to be around; he doesn’t seem to stress about anything and is adept at going with the flow and adapting to any difficulties thrown his way. He doesn’t seem to get overwhelmed by anything and he has a sort of calm about him that makes him easy to be around. He is patient and forgiving and doesn’t really get riled up by the everyday things. If something isn’t working out, he doesn’t get frustrated and can comfortably approach it from a different angle. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and enjoys the little things in life.
Flaws: Trusting – Asher chooses to see the best in people but this means that he’s easy to take advantage of. He
wants to believe that people are giving him their best effort, and sometimes they just need another chance to get on the right track. He is forgiving for far more than he should be and willingly ignores red flags or gives people too many chances. This makes him somewhat easy to take advantage of if you know how to choose your words, and he winds up a bit exhausted and disappointed at the constant let-downs of trusting too much.
Rebellious – Asher is
not particularly good at being obedient, and while he is generally easy-going, he is inflexible in his resolve to carve his own path. He is not shy about voicing discontent to his superiors or those in power, and when pressured to go along with something he does not support he responds with increasing resistance. Sometimes this can seem like he is being petty or confrontational, but he feels like he has strict morals and will not sacrifice who he is for someone else. No matter how small the request, if an expectation is placed on him, he immediately feels the need to push against it. He stands up for what he believes in, but he also pushes back when anyone assumes or instructs him to do something.
Asking is different, but if he’s
told to do something, it’s like a switch flips inside of him and it’s just in his nature to rebel. He will complain often, or engage in malicious compliance.
Workaholic – There’s always work to be done somewhere. Asher can’t help himself. He wishes he had a few copies of himself to tackle everything he
wants to get done. He crams as much as he can into one day, and while he seems easy going and like he doesn’t stress often, he sometimes struggles to determine what is most important to him and then regrets or worries about making the wrong decision. Choosing one task means letting one fall to the side, and when he’s juggling sensitive things [or trying to help different people] he sometimes feels like he’s failed someone. It’s draining on him and those around him; he can become restless or moody and rather than take time for himself, he just invests that time back into another project to hope it makes up for everything.
