Calliana

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Nicknames: Calli
Race: 1/2 Yaeli 1/4 Ice 1/4 Alkidike
Physical Description: While average in height for earthling women, Calliana is smaller than most in her family.

Personality: Driven, Egotistical, Spiteful

Calliana isn't the type to let anyone stop her from reaching her dreams and she dreams big. She's the type to always have a plan in place, among several back ups, and never detracts from the end goal for long.

She's also an egotistical girl who views herself at the top of whatever social pyramid she happens to be in and everyone else under her. While she doesn't treat others poorly, she doesn't hesitate to point out their flaws and can be quite flippant about it from time to time. As far as she's concerned she knows her worth, believes it to be priceless, and expects others to recognize it as such!

While Calliana's vain lifestyle might come off as purposefully rude, she actually loves spending time with others and has become something of a social magnet. That being said she isn't always kind and can be extremely spiteful if she feels she's been wronged. Calliana has been known to pull hair, set up pranks and spread rumors if it comes to saving her own skin. With this girls things are extremely clear; you're either on her good side or forever on the bad side. There are no inbetweens.

History
After Calliana and Casimir were weaned from their yaeli surrogate, their fathers took them to Belrea where the two grew up closer to their older sister's family. While she's spent some time in the cities the vast majority of Calliana's life has been in the countryside more attuned with Geian farms. It's been a charming, picturesque sort of upbringing that her older siblings would envy.

Prentice Solo

Calliana raised her practice sword and exhaled slowly. Her curls were tied back into a harsh ponytail but even that wasn’t enough to keep a few wisps from escaping. They clung to her sweat soaked skin; a cool violet melding with the flushed indigo. Ever since she was a little girl she’d watched her Papa with wide, adoring eyes. She couldn’t count the amount of shows she’d sat on the sidelines for, eagerly taking in everything Callum did and absorbing it into her soul. Sometimes she and Casimir would ‘reenact’ some of Callum’s fancier moves, though one of them would inevitably get hurt or, more likely, hurt the other. Sometimes on accident and sometimes on purpose.

As she’d grown and they’d traveled she came to understand a few things. The best performers knew how to work a crowd; so she practiced her smile and learned how to make friends. The best performers dressed to impress; so she styled her hair, dressed a little scandalously and took to wearing heeled boots. It wasn’t enough to be a hybrid; she needed bolder ways to stand out in a crowd. Calliana needed to be able to walk into a tavern and have every eye turn her way.

More than once over the years Calli had spat venomous words to her fathers about leaving Belrea. She’d spent most of her formative years there and while they’d bounced from village to village it was still familiar enough to call home. Her friends were there, her family and most of all the theaters. Papa Callum had tried to assuage her once by taking her to an Oban performance, but it wasn’t the same. It was beautiful to be sure, but it wasn’t nearly as spectacular as some of the shows he’d gotten them into when she was a girl.

Now that she stood in an open clearing, locked away in this small backwater Zenan village, something brewed inside Calliana. She didn’t know if she wanted to keep traveling or not. As she went through the practiced paces of her practice Calli’s mind started to whirl. Years had gone by where she had little say in where she went, where she slept or even when. Her fathers weren’t abusive by any means; if anything they were overindulgent. That’s what her brother had said; ”She’s spoiled.”

She hated Sol.

He couldn’t see the hours she spent learning how to fix carts or how to mend clothing. He wasn’t there to cook while their fathers worked. He wasn’t there so why should he get to decide what she was like? All he got to see was the byproduct of a near-adult being dragged away from her best friends to spend time with family she didn’t even know!

Calliana stabbed the air with a frustrated cry.

How was it that she had six siblings but only one bothered to know her? Maybe it was because of the age differences or the physical distance between them, but they could have at least tried. Ygraine was too busy keeping her corpse of a husband upright to care about her own kids, let alone her sister, Sol was fussing in the mountains, Siel had run off with some Elidae, Lutana was spirits knew where and Morain was just as bad!

She brought her sword down in a wide arch and transferred the motion into an upward slash. There was no technique in her movements; at least, not a formal one. They’d never stayed anywhere long enough for a proper teaching so she’d learned what Callum had picked up from his travels. It worked; he was proficient at whatever style he’d made but it was more decorative than anything. She wanted to be better. Calliana wanted to be just as seen as he was, but also a force to be reckoned with.

She wasn’t content to just be good on the stage; Calliana wanted to be good on the battlefield. And why shouldn’t she? Baba was a good fighter, and she might not have been as big as he was, but she could try. She was small, so much smaller than any of her other siblings had been, but that didn’t mean anything. Compared to earthlings she was still tall, still a threat and by the spirits she would be!

The problem was she needed a proper teacher. One that could show her how to fight, but in a way she wanted. Calliana wasn’t looking to be just a warrior so matching up with someone of that sort of background would be hard. It’d be easier if you just went back to Belrea. Yeah, but with what coin? Anything she’d earned over the years had gone to necessities. Pretty things, but the useful sort. Airship tickets were expensive.

But maybe...Maybe if she worked her way down south she could get a ship ticket and go across the sea? It would take longer, so much longer, but the cost in the end would be less. Would her fathers allow-

Calliana leapt into the air and flipped before landing on her feet mid-slice to her ‘opponent’. She didn’t need their permission anymore. She was old enough to make her own call so...why not? Why not just go back and do whatever the hell she wanted? Calli would call upon her friends, stay with them for a while, get hired on at a theater in the capital and carve out a life for herself! She didn’t need siblings who brushed her off and she didn’t need parents who couldn’t settle down.

Leaving Cas behind would be hard, though. She loved her brother unconditionally and...Well, maybe she could convince him to come back with her. He liked stabby things; maybe there would be a place for him, too? They could train together, just like they always had and....

...She paused. Maybe...maybe she should leave him? It wouldn’t be as if she hated him, no nothing like that, but maybe this was a chance for Calli to strike out on her own. It seemed to be the trend of their family; to break away and live apart for a while. Her breathing was heavy as she thought, her lungs gulping down what they could get while her arms shook. I could still talk to him and see what he thinks. As much as she wanted to stick to her convictions in this Calli couldn’t be sure. She’d never had any issues choosing what she wanted over what her fathers had in mind, but Cas was different. He was her twin, her other half and whatever choice she made would affect him just as much as it would her.

But she needed to decide and decide soon. They wouldn’t be staying in Zena for much longer so -

-hefting her practice sword Calliana started across the clearing in a sprint toward the cottage. She needed to find Casimir. She needed to find him, make an excuse to get him away from the family and sort all of this out. With luck he might join her and if not then...at least he wouldn’t be mad when she left in the middle of the night. At least, she hoped he wouldn’t be.

Class Choice - Sentinel

Okay, you need to breathe and focus.

Calliana looked at the selection before her and pursed her lips. She ‘borrowed’ some extra coin from her fathers and took a trip to Zidel. It was a few days away from Sol’s house, so she’d fabricated some story in a letter she’d hastily stuck underneath a bowl on the kitchen table before absconding in the night. It wasn’t as if she’d never done this before; Calli had snuck out plenty of times. Usually she was caught because, unsurprisingly, she wasn’t the only one of her siblings to try something like this. She just had the advantage of having older fathers who slept deeper and were slower to rise.

A life of swordsmanship was infront of her and she needed a proper sword. Something light but still heavy enough to get the job done. There was a plethora to choose from at the first smithy, though she’d ventured to another four before finally setting on a selection she liked. Instead of broadswords and simple cutlasses these were smoother, more delicate rapiers with cross guards that would swirl around her hand. They were far more expensive than anything she’d intended to buy, but it wasn’t as if she didn’t have the coin...

Her fathers would be okay with this, right? She could pay them back one day when her skills were great enough to draw in a crowd. It was an investment; surely they would see it that way. Calli lifted the rapier and held it away from the smith, twisting it this way and that to get a feel for the blade. It just felt so right that she couldn’t possibly leave it behind.

“I’ll take this one,” She said with a broad smile and dropped the bag of gold onto the counter.
