Colm is a withdrawn, quiet young man who enjoys his hobbies and likes to do things on his own. He has a difficult time understanding other people, and sometimes needs things explained to him literally before he can get it. He loves his family dearly, but often neglects to do things for them or think of things they might want or need from him. He isn't very creative, and enjoys learning things from his father.

History

Childhood
Colm was born among a great deal of family in Jauhar, the first of his small family. He had aunts and uncles to play with, grandparents that doted on him - but even as a little child, he was easily overwhelmed by people. Actually, as a little boy he didn't speak and instead clung onto his parents, following them, crying when separated. It wasn't until his little brother Arden was born that he found an interest in other people - as if intimidated by those older than him.

Arden though was his best friend from day one, and despite his brother growing up so boisterous and energetic, Colm never seemed to have trouble with him.

He was the first of the boys to figure out that Asa was ill. The concept of his father dying terrifies him.

Class Solo - 323 words

At sixteen years old, the teachers at Colm's school in Belrea began to stress the importance of a future profession with a certain ferver that was somehow both wonderful and terrible all at once. The lofty promise that he could choose (almost) anything made his mind buzz with the possibilities. For most of his life, he'd watched his parents struggle to work what jobs they could while Asa pursued his studies as a healer; and even now, Colm's heart broke to see his mother working as a labourer more often than not.

He had promise. That was what his teachers said, often in open comparison to his younger brother. He could become a scholar ... or work with numbers, he was quite good at it. Equally, he enjoyed his reading, and history appealed to him. He had a high tolerance for the mundane, and could see himself working as a clerk at a respectable little shop if it paid well enough to support him and his family.

... But it was the twins that really cinched it for him. Asa was getting older, and with it his illness was stealing more and more of him every year. While his magic, and his healer's aid had prolonged his life quite a bit, Asa wouldn't be here forever. Colm wondered if he'd even be here in a year or two.

And that left the twins. Their little family would be leaving Belrea soon, running from the threat that was their grandfather's people ... and who knew how long Asa, weakened as he was by his illness, would press on. And then Uquin would no longer be there to supplement their care. Colm didn't have magic - at least, nothing strong enough to heal or to conjure, but he had his mind - and with it a grasp on alchemy.

With it, he hoped he could continue his father's work in caring for their family after he was gone.
