Magical potions are a bit of a risk in Tendaji, believe it or not. It might be because most are used to working with natural items, or that many potions don't always have their intended effects. Some of the more dubious ones have been rumored to cause scales to grow, or blindness. So if you pass by someone in a back alley saying they have a potion to help you grow two feet taller, it's often better to look the other way.
Or is it?
What would you find if you looked over at what they had to sell? Is it really all that strange? Or maybe you'll find a fun hidden gem worth taking home.

Calliana watched as a stocky Geian woman stood atop a step ladder and lit one of many candle lanterns that lined the street. Though the evenings were darkening later and later with each passing day they came all the same which meant that Calliana was late. She was supposed to be back at the inn ages ago, and while her curfew was flexible one rule stayed the same; be back before the street lamps were lit.
In her eyes she was beyond old enough to be out after dark, but her fathers worried so she did her best to try and appease them. Lessons had run a little longer today than usual, and of course she'd spent some time with her friends afterward so the teenager was just now meandering through the village toward their chosen inn. There were still enough souls moving about that she didn't feel worried, though she was one of the few that stood out. Most everyone in the village was Geian, or at the very least had Geian blood, except for her family. Those that knew her well didn't mind it, but others tended to give Calliana lingering stares.
She didn't help matters when she slowly stopped infront of an odd looking building. "Could have sworn this was empty yesterday..." And yet now there was a wooden 'open' sign hanging on the door with a few oil lanterns inside the seemingly stocked...potions shop?

Lazuli had rushed out as soon as he'd heard there as a new shop that had popped up. He usually did the same when he knew that a new shipment came in. Mostly because he liked to be the first to see what had come in. It always interested him. Of course his aunt had stalled him by making him put on the proper clothing and making sure he had a coat like he was still a baby. However, once he was allowed to leave he was out the door.
By the time he got to the building he was out of breath and had to pause a moment to catch it. Bending over with his hands on his knees he took a few deep breaths to help. When he had a handle on his breathing again he stood upright and grinned. So this was it?
The Geian hybrid looked to his left and saw the slightly odd hybrid there but didn't seem to mind. He'd caught her words about the place being empty yesterday. "Was it really? Such efficiency." A bit of wonder touched his voice. His gaze went back to the building as he took it in.

Calliana's heeled boots gave a subtle click as she shifted her stance from one hip to the other. Something about this place was off but she couldn't put a finger on it. The teaching's of her fathers both warned of shops like this and told of fantastical things they sold so the teen was conflicted. Go in or stay away? What would her fathers do?
Go in, of course.
Looking to her right, Calliana quirked a brow at the fellow yaeli hybrid. It wasn't often that she saw anyone with that sort of blood in Belrea, let alone here. Still, he didn't appear to a threat but this place? It could be.
"I bet it's wild in there," She phrased it with a grin. "Are you gonna go in?"

He had to agree with the sentiment that it was likely wild inside. From what he could see on the outside he was betting on the goods being far more interesting. So when the girl asked him if he was going in he looked at her directly and offered a furrowed brow. "What kind of question is that? Of course I'm going in! I wanna see what they have." He gave a large grin before facing the shop once more.
He paused for only a second before moving his feet to carry him to the entrance. "Come on!" He called back to the girl. "You won't regret it." After all, having one's curiosity satisfied was a good feeling.

Calliana's edging expression turned into a full blown grin. She'd been ready to tease the other into going in if he showed any sort of hesitation, but it seemed like she had a kindred, inquisitive spirit. "I'm coming, I'm coming," She barely waited for him to get through the doorway before she was walking through herself.
She wasn't entirely sure what she was expecting to find, but this wasn't it. On the outside the shop looked weird and spooky, and if possible the inside was even more ghastly. Trailing plants grew down from large, imposing shelves and when she walked past one she could have sworn it reached out toward her. Even with candlelight it still seemed dim inside which gave the strange, bubbling jars around them an ominous feel.
"Hey, look," Calliana reached out to tug on the boy's arm and pointed toward a bright pink bottle. The color was too vibrant to be natural, but it was the floating eye inside that caught her attention. "Think it's real?"

He had been busy looking around at everything, his head slowly turning from left to right, when he felt the tug on his arm. Lazuli looked at the girl before following to where she pointed. Instantly the bright pink caught his attention but the eye inside was even more interesting. "Whoa.. if its not then someone is really talented." The eye looked very real so if it was a fake someone had talent with painting.
His smile grew as he looked up at Calliana. "Was it worth it to come inside?" Since he'd found her just standing outside he had to know if she regretted the decision now.
Lazuli moved closer to the pink bottle and squinted in the dim lighting to see if he could find what the potion was made for.

"Yeah, I think so." Everything in these jars was nauseating but incredibly interesting all at once. Calliana couldn't keep the excitement off her face as she too moved closer, and did her best to inspect the jar.

"What does that mean....?" She murmured, only to hear some steps behind her. The teenager started to raise, thinking it to only be another customer but a spindly Geian came into view.
"It is a potion for dark vision. Once you drink it you'll be able to see through the darkest night for six hours." His thin, boney hands were clasped in front of him and something about his smile reminded Calliana of a reptile. The lips were too line, his smile too wide... "My name is Nexus, welcome to my shop. Is there anything I can help you to find?" His eyes drifted between the two.

He smiled at the girl as she moved closer as well. Both having read the label on the bottle, but with Calliana verbalizing her wonder first, Lazuli tilted his head slightly. The sound of someone coming up behind them caused him to move a bit, straightening his posture and half reaching out to grab his temporary companion so that she could move out of the way.
The answer they got was an interesting one but Lazuli was put a little on edge by the appearance of the man. As a natual reaction he stepped ever so slightly in front of Calliana. "We were just looking around." Since they hadn't even known what was inside the place they couldn't possibly have something in particular they were after. At least, he certainly didn't.

Nexus watched the boy's movements with interest and a most interesting smile lit up his face. "Is that so. Well, look to your hearts content and if you have need of me I'll be at the counter." He passed a look over the boy once more before moving toward Calliana who instantly bristled. She couldn't tell if his stare was because of their obvious hybridity or because of something else. Did she even want to know?
When the Geian had what he needed he gave a little dip and moved across the shop toward his counter.
She looked over to see her companion's protective stance and couldn't help the little snort that slipped out. Honestly, it was adorable and if he knew even a shred about her he wouldn't have tried. Still, it made her feel like a princess and Calliana adored the act. She leaned in closer to his ear and whispered, "He looks like a lizard with skin. How long did you want to stick around? It's getting weird," and she gave a side eye toward the potion, "and not in the cool way."

Lazuli noticed that the man moved his stare from him to the girl after his weird smile and it caused the boy to move just a bit more in front of her. Something about the way they were being looked at made him feel on edge. When the man finally moved away and toward the counter the boy seemed to relax just a little. Of course he heard the snort from Calliana and turned his head to look at her. At the same time she was leaning close to whisper.
The comment about the man looking like a lizard caused Lazuli to stifle a laugh by pressing his lips together and giving an ever so slight shake of his head. It was rude to speak of others like that but she had a point. "I think I've seen enough." And if she was uncomfortable then he didn't want to make her feel obligated to stay. After all, she was basically inside the shop because of him.
So Lazuli made a motion toward the door with one hand. "After you." His main goal now was to get her out of there without the creepy shop owner getting too close, saying, or doing anything.

Some might have been uncomfortable by getting so close, especially once Lazuli turned toward her, but Calliana didn't mind it. If anything a smirk grew to mask the unease inside her soul. She gave one look back toward the counter just to make sure they weren't being spied, but the shop keep wasn't there. Either he was drifting somewhere else in the shop or he was better at hiding than she liked.
Without much prompting, Calli started walking toward the door and took the steps two at a time getting down. Only when the door was shut did she give an exaggerated exhale and prop her hands on her hips. "Goddess. Even if there was anything cool in there I wouldn't have bought it. Who knows where he got half the stuff!"

Once outside he looked back at the place with some wonder. Mostly at how he could have thought such a place was at all that intriguing. When he heard his temporary companion speak he turned toward her again and smiled. "You think maybe he stole it?" What other option could there be? There was no way he made it all, right? Or if it even worked like it said it did.
"Do you really think they all worked? I mean some of them claimed to do some pretty wild stuff." He wasn't so sure if he trusted the labels or not.

I can't wait to tell Cas about this. Maybe she could bring her brother by before he left? She wouldn't go back in, oh no, but she would shove Casimir inside.

He was busy looking at the store when the girl leaned over and poked him in the chest. "Oof.." It wasn't hard but it was enough to startle him since he hadn't been paying attention.
"Uh.. no thanks." He chuckled softly and shook his head at the same time. "I'd rather spend my coin on something else." Lazuli motioned with his thumb and pointed back over his shoulder. "I'm fairly certain I saw a really nice dagger back that way that I might get instead." It would be a nice gift for someone since it had been finely detailed.
