So maybe they just hadn't been thinking about it. The existence of a third mountain on the border of the town was pretty hard to miss. Especially since this one was somehow even taller than the other two. That meant more fun, right? Also...potentially it meant more danger. But Puella was more than willing to ignore that, for the moment. More mountains meant more eggs, and he'd heard that eggs were pretty yummy.
"Come on, TK!" Puella called, waving her arms a little pointlessly. She'd been victoriously reunited with her friend. She could call TK a friend now, right? He was kind of a weird guy, but that didn't mean she disliked him. He'd fought for her!
Even if really he didn't have much of a choice about that. Heh. Puella got herself into trouble a lot, didn't she? "I figure climbing this one shouldn't be that bad," she said. "Even for you. We're practically old hat at mountain climbing by now!"

For some reason, Puella was convinced that they just had to do another egg-related quest for the villagers. The skeleton could not understand why, but she did. At this point, after having completed so many tasks with the spider ghoul, TK found it difficult for him to refuse her despite growing tired of running errands for the village. He just wanted to return to the school and collect what few data he had managed to collect from this excursion. But it just seemed rude to say ‘no.’
His eyes wandered to the side while he hummed and rubbed the back of his neck. Jack dammit. “Yeah. Alright,” he agreed after a moment’s hesitation.
“Who knows what kind of obstacles this mountain holds?” he warned cautiously, following behind the younger student.

"What?" asked Puella distractedly. She glanced back over her shoulder at TK as she climbed, but that was where she made her mistake. Because she promptly tripped, and spilled - you guessed it - her wyvern egg onto the floor. Where it cracked into two. "Guess I can't use it now," she sighed glumly. She would never have expected tripping to take her down.
"I'll be back," she said firmly, and began darting down the mountain.

"I'm back!" Puella sang, fresh from her ordeal. Wait, TK was still here? What a good friend he was.
She pulled out her wyvern egg to show him, triumph still singing through her blood. Unfortunately, the egg had broken in her backpack. Puella gaped at it. "Again?" she wailed.

Puella was being careful, now, and avoiding all the hedgehogs in her way, now that she'd obtained a fourth wyvern egg. She moved slowly up the mountain, taking short breaths every so often to steady herself, and steering very clear of cute hedgehogs, no matter how much they begged with their big eyes. She wanted this to be a success.
"Okay," she said when she reached TK again. "Are you ready for this?"

She'd taken awhile, though, what with scaling both of the two mountains repeatedly, and then coming back. Three times. Maybe she'd rushed as quickly as she could, but that didn't mean TK was willing to sit through anyone climbing a very tall mountain, three times. And maybe Puella and TK were friends, now, but that didn't mean he was patient enough to wait several hours for someone he'd only met this week. No matter how many ordeals they'd been through together.
She hoped he'd gotten his egg, though. Didn't he deserve a reward? For all his work?
Okay. She was up the mountain without incident this time, thanks to actually paying attention. That was apparently important, or something. Taking a breath, she looked for more eggs.
They weren't actually that hard to miss, this time. They were also, conveniently, all in one place. The problem wasn't finding the eggs. It would be taking one - because it seemed like they were guarded by a gigantic snake. It looked...even longer than the other ones she'd seen. It looked as long as a sand whale! Okay, the key was being quiet. Puella had already learned that.
So, quietly, she snuck over its coils, trying to be as light-footed as possible. She set her wyvern egg down carefully, and as quietly as she could, picked the snake's egg up. It was really big!
Was she all set, then?
Oh wait. No. She had to get out of this cave!

It was on the way down that Puella caught someone's attention, though. Or, well, two someones' attention. A pair of velociraptors raced out from the shadows.
Well, giant snake eggs were probably pretty tasty. Puella was pretty sure that it was more important that they contain giant snake, though. Maybe she could train it like Verusha's dog! She swiped viciously at one of the velociraptors with a foot, feeling pleased that it didn't manage to get anywhere near her egg. Take that!

The egg was a little cumbersome in Puella's arms, but that didn't matter too much. It was okay if it was big, after all. It just needed to also stay intact. "That's what's important," she whispered to it. "So don't worry your head about these raptor things, okay?"
She kicked at the same velociraptor weakly. There wasn't much else she could do...but she didn't want this egg to be hurt, either.

That made it sound a little silly: the egg wasn't sentient, after all. It couldn't feel pain. But the thing inside it could, and besides: this egg was all glittery and golden. It'd be so sad if it shattered! She kicked out again with her right leg, this time.
She felt a little useless without her arms. Sure, her legs were far stronger - she was great at jumping! But at the same time, her arms were just more versatile. If they were free, she could've tackled the velociraptors, or clawed at them. As it was she could only kick. But she was a little scared that if she put the egg down, the velociraptors would just run away with it.
Unfortunately in her thought she missed, and one of the velociraptors got its beak to hit the egg's shell.

Well, Puella couldn't allow that! She leveled a fierce glare at it as she backed away.
Oh, was that a rock by her feet? It was pretty sizeable. Glancing down at it, she carefully shifted the egg to one arm. Then she bent down as gently as she could and threw the rock into the velociraptors' faces.
One of them promptly turned tail and ran.

Take that! Puella was intimidating! She grinned, a little maniacally, at the other one, and the sheer FEAR of the moment meant it quaked backwards. Stay away from this egg! she thought, as hard as she could.

Puella did dearly wish she could just put this egg down and fight the velociraptor one on one. She was a lot less delicate than her egg, you know! She'd be able to take this thing on.
As it was, she'd had enough. She gathered all her strength and charged at the velociraptor, running straight past it as soon as she kicked it meanly in the stomach. It wasn't gonna keep chasing Puella at this point, anyway: she'd already proved too dangerous for its next meal.
