Fresh off the success of their, ah, fishing endeavor, the pair were somehow wrangled into helping more villagers collect...wyvern eggs?
"Gee," Puella said. She hoped they were small enough to carry - everything here seemed so very big, after all. Still, when she learned that the eggs were atop a mountain she perked up immediately. "I don't know about you," she said to TK, "but I love climbing!" And jumping. There was a reason she was a jumping spider, all right? Obviously climbing the mountain wasn't without incident, because it was a lot more lived-in than the villagers had implied.
The boulders were easy enough to vault herself over, from her, ah, practice, but there were definitely times when she had to wait for TK and his long, rickety limbs. It was all right, though - as they climbed they came across a really big snake, and Puella made an undignified sound in response to it. He seemed a little more experienced than she did, though, and they ended up...well, running away. By climbing further up the mountain. Hey, two birds with one stone, right? Besides, running was something Puella was good at, even with legs as short as hers were. She pulled her skirts to the side as she jumped to the topmost ledge, and grinned over at TK. "I totally see those eggs!" she bragged.
She pulled herself up onto the flat surface at the top and then leaned over to help TK up, as well as she could, anyway. She grabbed an egg, hefting it carefully in her arms...and even before she began the climb downward, a lobster emerged from nowhere to swipe at it. Eeek!
It looked like the descent would be much harder than the ascent, and Puella had to admit that the ascent had been strenuous in the first place.

It was just one thing after the other with these villagers. Would doing all of these chores even benefit the two students in the long run? He wasn’t even sure if he was learning much about the village by doing these tasks. TK would have thrown a barrage of questions at the villagers, but they were always so pushy and slipping out, not answering any of his inquiries in the slightest. It was too much of a pain to go through, so somewhere along the way he had ceased.
“Somehow, I am not surprised,” TK mentioned politely. While he was unaware of her specific species, he considered spiders in general to be apt climbers.
While Puella easily jumped from boulder to boulder, he climbed at a more leisurely pace, taking his time to find holds that would not give under his meager weight. Unfortunately, the mountain had more obstacles than he had hoped for. There was a sinking feeling in his stomach when they encountered a snake. He ignored Puella’s shriek and instead ushered her up and diagonal while tossing a rock as far as he could in order to draw the creature’s attention away.
“Hopefully the climb down will be easier than the one up,” he remarked quietly as his bony arms reached for one of the eggs. How peculiar that the guardians of these eggs were nowhere in sight, but a fortunate circumstance for the two of them.
But just like the climb up, the climb down was filled with creatures. He resisted the urge to click his tongue when a snake whacked his egg with its tail.

Oooh, maybe she'd spoken too soon. A little brattily, she hissed in response to the snake that had smacked TK's egg. She didn't think it could really hear, but it was the thought that counted, right?
Somehow that managed to keep any larger amount of attention off of her, which was good. She marched downward steadily, but certainly at a slower pace than she'd ascended the mountain - she had an egg, now, and she wasn't really sure how vulnerable it was, but running down meant it might be slammed against something accidentally. Anyway, she was a lot more willing to do things that seemed dangerous when she didn't have someone like TK around. She had to look like a reasonable, normal person, right?
They were using pathways now rather than merely climbing vertically but that didn't mean there were still boulders in their way. She edged her way around one meekly before peeking back at TK. "How's your egg doing?" she called.

He sighed as they slowly continued down the mountain. For a while nothing happened, which allowed him time to ruminate silently. The villagers had said these eggs were not tainted, so what did the tainted eggs look like? What exactly were these eggs tainted with, and whatever it was, did it pose a threat to the villager’s safety? Then again, they probably would have left long ago if it was dangerous.
…Right?
Puella’s voice broke his line of thought in time for him to realize there was a creature scuttling toward them. TK tried to sidestep the lobster, but it had already taken a swipe at his egg. Once the immediate danger was gone, he answered dryly, “I think this egg has seen better days."

She looked over as soon as TK, too, came into view. "I hope it does okay," she said worriedly. At least they were about halfway down the mountain, right?
Gingerly she began walking again, but slowly she relaxed as nothing more seemed to be coming her way. Wait, no. Was that...? Something in the sands moved, but after a while she realized that it was a harmless little rabbit. How cute! It looked like something she'd have fed to the spider from earlier. "Do these really contain wyverns?" she wondered aloud, glancing over at TK. Were the villagers going to hatch them, or just...eat them? Sell them?
...what did you do with wyvern eggs, anyway?
Actually, if all the tasks were going to be so difficult, it might be better to keep some of these things for herself, Puella thought. But then again - the thought of being able to leave this place, with all its over-large fauna, was tempting enough for her to continue.

“Well,” he started after a moment, “I am sure the villagers will accept just one egg.” There was an unnatural pause after his sentence like he wasn’t sure about what he had just said. Well, they would find out once they reached the bottom of the mountain. Or maybe TK would strike some luck and actually manage to keep his own egg intact.
Something seemed to shift, and when Puella flickered her gaze toward the sound so did TK, but it was only a small rabbit. He hummed thoughtfully at the rabbit before looking back down at the egg. “I see no reason why the villagers would lie to us. Students would hardly find wyvern eggs to be useful.” Actually, a handful might, but most of the bus passengers probably weren’t interested in making off with an egg or two.

"Hm..." Puella began in consideration. Well, an egg was better than none, anyway. She tilted her head at his next words, though. "I guess that's true! We have, like, classes to worry about." And hacking, although that was a secret.
They walked along for a few more moments but Puella couldn't see much else coming, so she turned back to TK for a moment. "Do you think it'd even hatch without being incubated for so long?" Actually, once it was down in the village again, would it be miasma-infected? Puella shuddered to think of it - she was pretty sure the egg had only avoided the fate so far by virtue of it being...well, isolated.
A loud screeching noise interrupted her thoughts, and Puella turned to see a line of minipets waddling toward her like ducks. Except they didn't look like ducks in any other sense: they were sharp-clawed and far more colorful, and they also lacked, well, feathers. They came running at her full tilt and she hopped to the side, wide-eyed, as they did. One managed to graze the egg's casing but it seemed like they decided the effort was too much.
...wow!
At least they were almost to the bottom.

Yes, classes should definitely be the main priority for Amity students, but considering the myriad of events that tended to occur at the school or otherwise, TK could not help but wonder if what Puella said was actually true. Not that he was complaining. It made his school life interesting, and there was certainly something large going on in town. If he could learn what it was…
A screeching sound startled TK, but he held firmly onto the egg in his arms. His grip tight, he watched a line of creatures waddle by them. One of them lightly grazed Puella and her egg, but it was still going strong.
Unlike his own egg, which was attacked by another lobster. Tsk, but since it was still intact, the villagers took it anyways.

That mountain sure was dangerous - either that or the eggs were really tasty or something. It seemed like everything up there had wanted a piece of TK's egg. (She hoped hers wasn't a dud, secretly.)
Eventually they did reach the bottom with no further issue other than a return of those nasty-looking lobsters. Puella passed her eggs to the villagers without comment, and was happy to receive a prize. "Man, I'm beat," she commented.
