A sand whale has been spotted nearing the village sand harbour!. These creatures are extremely unfriendly and have been known to swallow entire buildings. Ring the gong, fire bombs, throw ballistas, do what you can to stop the sand whale!
- The sand whale has 200/200 HP. When it hits 150 HP it will leave and swim away.
- At the start of the battle roll 1d6. This is the amount of ballista shots your character gets. Every time you use a ballista shot, you do a perfect 10 HP damage.
- The sand whale does an automatic -1 damage to you every time you attack the sand whale.
- If you run out of ballista shots, roll 1d6 again to gather more. However, each time you gather more the sand whale hits you for -5 damage!
gaia_smilies/icon_star.gif If you thwart the sand whale it drops a whale fin, it is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list
Andrew was wandering in the area of the sand whales again, trying to figure out what to do. He wanted to go home. Jack, he just wanted to go lay down in his family's fire pit and call it good. Perhaps just take a vacation.
Maybe he could go to the lava springs. That sounded like a great idea, some bathing, some warm, just chillax and not move time. Away from school, away from his problems and just pretend the world didn't exist. Still before he could do any of that he had to get out of this dumb town.
It seemed they had sand whales. Whales made Andrew a little squeamish because they were generally water creatures but sand whales wasn't so bad. He could live with this. Still they wanted him to go shoot it. Andrew gathered up a whole ballista and set it up taking a shot at the whale. The rumbling from the whale rattled him but he was doing ok.

Andrew got off the ballista to go grab more shots. He tried to dodge the whale tail but it came crashing down and knocked him off his feet for a moment. he was a bit dazed but managed to scramble back up and move.
Andrew grabbed the necessary shots and got back in shooting one off immediately. The whale let out what seemed to be a loud moan and then Andrew geared up the other one, his hands moving as he strung it on and pulled it tight.

Puella didn't really know why anyone would want to spend any more time around these stupid whales than absolutely necessary. Still, her own fin had been stolen, and that meant she had to make things right.
She didn't really expect to see someone else in the sandy beach area, though. She'd figured most people had learned to stay away early on. Or...or, well, maybe this guy had had something stolen, too. Narrowing her eyes at him, she bent down to take some ballista shots with her into the fray. Her arms were overfull with them: she'd managed to pick up three whole shots as she approached the ballista. "Are you any good at working this thing?" she asked as she arrived. "I'm Puella, by the way!" She paused, looking down at his hands.
"I-I'd offer to shake, but what with that thing over there..." She gestured toward the whale with her chin now, frowning petulantly. "I think it's better to focus on loading these ballistae." Or...you know, shut up. Because there was a sand whale kicking up sand at them as they worked. Blech.
She did that as quickly as she could, and scrabbled back as she shot. She was surprised to find that she was just as good a shot as TK had been. Well, maybe it was that the whale was actually a pretty easy target.

"I have no idea what I'm doing." Andrew grinned at her. "It seems pretty simple, you point and shoot. I have no idea what's up with the whales. But as long as they are sand whales and not like water whales I think we can handle them." Andrew did not like water not one bit. He'd take an over sized sand whale any day.
"I'm Andrew." For perhaps the first time since they had gotten stuck Andrew felt himself start to relax. Perhaps it was because he was accomplishing something straight forward and accomplishable.
Andrew released his shot and hit the whale again. Ok yeah he could handle doing stuff like this. The whale wasn't so terribly bad.

Puella grinned. "I shot...one ballista earlier," she admitted. "But my friend took care of the rest, and he's a lot more, um...experienced than I am!" It did seem pretty simple, she thought. She hadn't missed so far. "Oh! Yeah, I'm, um, Puella!"
She smiled briefly at the flame demon. She could certainly imagine why he had trouble in water. "I don't think I'd mind a water whale...but I can't breathe underwater, so I don't know how I'd fight it in the first place," she admitted. Maybe someone had a harpoon somewhere that she could nab? That would be the key to true success, right?
Well, that didn't matter right now. Shaking her head, Puella darted forward to push her next shot into the ballista. She checked that it'd be secure, took careful aim, and fired. Then she backed away again to watch it sail solidly into the whale's side.
It gave another loud, pained wailing noise, much like the first had done, and Puella shot a thumbs up over to the boil. What? She wasn't sadistic; she was just intimidated by the whale and wanted it subdued, if she could manage that.

Andrew watched as the whale decided it had enough of them and swam away. "Looks like you got this one."
He snorted and looked over the spider ghoul. "You can't breath under water huh? Well you could hold your breath a bit, though I'd just harpoon fromt he top if I had to... mind you I would not get on the boat or near the water to begin with so there is that." he gave her an amused grin. "If it makes you feel better, I can't breath under water either."
Andre didn't mind fully admitting that he could not breath under water. It would be bad for him for obvious reason. Now that the the whale was swimming away he noticed that one of it's fins had dropped, no make that two.
"Let's go grab what it dropped, ok? One each we'll split it even."

"Oooh - yes please," Puella said promptly. "I like prizes!"
She didn't feel like she'd done very much, though - she'd only loaded the ballista twice, after all. But for some reason, these sand whales weren't that hard to eliminate. Although in all fairness the ballistas really did look like they hurt. She shrugged at him, though. "I guess that makes sense!" she chirped. "I guess I'm glad we can at least aim at this guy," she admitted. Though the whale was so big it seemed pretty hard to miss. "I don't think I'd mind a boat, but I actually haven't been," she mused. "I guess it's different for you, though," she added, eyeing the bright flame on Andrew's tail.
She stretched as she began to run over. "These things are so big!" she marveled. "Did you know some of the villagers can make fishing rods from them?"

Andrew wasn't sure a whale fin was a prize but he guessed they did shoot it themselves. Ok it was close enough to a prize to count.
Andrew figured they were more chasing the whales off than eliminating them. Wait what was that? Andrew paused in his walk down to the sands, eyes unfocused a second. Was someone talking to him? he glanced around and then shook himself. No it didn't seem so. Weird.
No she walks talking to him right. Spider ghoul.
"I bet the ballista are set up on the whale's migration path." It was the only conclusion he could draw because clearly the whales kept coming back through here. "Oh they can?" No Andrew did not know. That... that was probably why they were set up where they were.
Andrew walked over and picked up his fin.

A whale fin was a prize because it was big and pretty, and valuable enough that the invisible Apex minipet had stolen Puella's. That was all that mattered, to her. Andrew seemed to be lost in thought, though, and a healthy respect for the state meant Puella kept quiet as he shook himself back into their conversation.
"Migration path?" Puella asked, eyes popped open. That could be doable. "Maybe...or maybe the whales really like the minipets here. Or the wyvern eggs." The wyvern eggs, after all, were apparently so tasty that things kept attacking her for a go at them. "Yeah, apparently fish are valuable or something." Puella shrugged. Did it matter to her? Some of those fish were kind of...weird.
