Tohru Soleiris and Company
Expert Kiandri Dovaa
Western Edge of Eowyn - Traveling to Taliuma (Eastern Port)

"Ah, it's such a pain," Vega griped as she and the small hoard of other Magescians she'd claimed charge of walked away from the western port that was being overtaken with Mara. Walked. On their feet. Without flying. How did people get around like this?

"It's not so bad, is it?" Tohru questioned, absently rubbing his now-bandaged arm. "If we're really moving away from the towns and such, it seems less likely that we'll be attacked..." Although... He somehow doubted Vega and her crew cared about that. They seemed very unconcerned about safety, as a whole. Either way, it had been a few days since Tohru himself actually partook in any of the fighting, despite the fact that the Mara seemed busier now than ever...

Guerrilla

A few days found the small band of Magescians in the mountains, and wandering farther and farther away from any Mara attacks. Tohru didn't have to be a genius to see that the seclusion, coupled with the lack of action was driving his traveling companions crazy. The Kiandri hadn't known them long, but from what he could see, they seemed to do best in large groups. Someplace where the scenery could change frequently and they had a lot of versatile things to talk about and do.

The canyons of the mountains didn't offer this in as much abundance as they were used to. In fact, for the most part, they seemed to have exhausted their reserves of conversation and lapsed into silence, save for whenever someone wanted to complain.

"This is horrible," the usually cheery Cela muttered. "So dry and brown... and boring. It's no wonder there aren't any Mara here! Even they hate it!" She huffed and scuffed at the ground with her shoe. Tohru had to tuck a grin behind his hand at their antics.

Another mara for good measure? lol

Raemos made a quick secondary assessment in the brief moments he had to think. Two hybrid children. Several adults, some hybrids. Not all had the body types of seasoned fighters, but they looked like they could handle at least a little fighting.

The Dovaa that seemed to have taken charge of his group wanted to go first, and that was fine with Raemos. After all, he seemed to have his wings and that meant he was..

Wait, he had four wings, and they were feathered. Another hybrid, then. Raemos wondered why he was surprised, after having lived in Tukyere for so long. He was clearly older and powerful.

He frowned as the man raised his staff. He could sense the magic the man was gathering - it was a lot of magic, part the clear, pure, early-morning feel of light magic and something that felt... fresh. Earthy. It called to mind a Serenian meadow covered with morning dew, or the feel of new leaves in the spring.

Ysali magic he thought. Well, that answered an unasked question - the hybrid's clan was Ysali, and he was also a mage of Seren. A fascinating choice, especially for a healer. "Right, you!" he gestured to a hybrid under his command - the only other oblivionite or part oblivionite he had been assigned, "Avert your eyes but be ready to move forward."

Raemos himself forgot to bother - he kept 'forgetting' the eternally nagging inconvenient fact that, despite his continuous assertions to the contrary, he really was an oblivionite.

Instead of covering his eyes, he watched, impressed and envious, as the gnarled roots rose from the ground and wrapped the mara in their creaking embrace. That, he thought, gasping in awe, was not healing magic. It was art - destructive art, but art none the less.

He covered his sockets against the blinding light, but he was used to bright light - the desert was not a dim place to grow up. In the wake of the spell's flash, he gave his closed eyelids a brief rub before opening them again.

"Right." he said, "We have an opening. Lets get moving." he gestured to the hybrid and his group. He was going to talk to that hybrid and ask him how he had done that. It had to do with his dual ancestry, yes, but those khehora had moved so in tune with the mage's desires. Were they bonded? Likely so. Raemos had questions - he always had questions where magic was concerned.

Which, he reminded himself, he would ask later, when they had gotten to the safety of the walls. They began to move forward - speed was of the essence, but it was Raemos's goal not to leave anyone behind, civilian or Guardian or whatever the caravan considered itself to be.

A spire of earth shot up from the sand, nearly hitting one of the orderites under his command, and Raemos reacted, seeking for a familiar shape amongst the rock beings.

There.

The familiar, stone statue clothed shape of a mara mage. "Keep moving!" he ordered, gathering his magic to him. He did not like these mages - how they cast, what they cast, and what they used their spells to do. He dispelled his illusory tentacle, casting a spell that slipped through the shadows and tried to wind about the mara.

Something was wrong - it wasn't working as it had before. There was no clinging tendril, no black oblivion to wreak on the mara's magic. It felt as though it would just not stick to it, no matter what he did.

"Damn." he growled, taking his magic back as the mage focused on him, "Stupid magic resistance."

He drew his sword and gathered magic into it, forcing the runes to flare as the mage approached. Well, he would just have to try the other way of using his magic - the less traditional or advisable way.

He slashed out with his sword, projecting his magic into the sword and outward into a slashing wave of force. It slammed into the mara, making it stagger back, its body crumbling slightly.

Not being one to quit, he slashed again with magic, and, at the second slash, it cracked and fell.

Before, it had only taken one magic sword chop to kill them. He took stock and caught up with his group, his face grim. So. It took twice as much effort to now. Lovely.

"Keep going!" he called out encouragingly to the group, "We're nearly there! Forget about the heads. Safety is priority, not money!" The gates were near, and there were people ready to let them in, but there were still mara between them and it...

Meta Update
The port town of Taliuma on the eastern edge of Eowyn is now under siege! There are not that many Mara's here as they have just discovered this port. It is one of the few untouched (till now) ports on Eowyn. Now they face raids by Mara!

For those who cannot fly: the only way to leave safely without being attacked is to use a Smuggler's ship or swim! You could also ask a friendly Khehora to ferry you across... Though why they would agree you need to RP out!

Or you can fight your way through to Taliuma and take a boat.--> You must roll for at least 1 Mara encounter if you do this.

Those landing in Taliuma must roll 1 Mara encounter minimum as well!

Entering or Leaving Tukyere: The Wild Tribe has found a way to get people in or out in small numbers. But: there are so many Mara about you will have to face at least 3 if you are leaving/entering the city!

Given a breather in the middle of the fight, Raemos did a quick check on his freshly minted troops:

The Hybrid Kiandri archer seemed to be doing well - their arrows did little on their own, but, as a mara cracked under the searing might of the magic behind the arrow, it was clear that they had things under control.

The Firani hybrid swordsman looked like he could use some assistance, and Raemos checked the other troops nearby.

The Orderite Oblivionite hybrid - the only one in his troop (besides, as he refused to acknowledge, himself) with Oblivionite blood - was also struggling, their magic failing against the mara even as they held off one of the metal ones with an imprinted hammer.

A hammer... Raemos sheathed his sword and, with some effort and magical reinforcement, picked up the discarded stone hammer of one of the mara. Suddenly, he felt incredibly more useful, given that sword and magic did little against the mara.

But this?

He smashed the mara that threatened his soldier, flinching at the weight and the scream of twisting metal as the young solder - Private Pattan - gave him a grateful, glow-eyed look.

He took stock of the others: The gaili dovaa private was doing fine, and the Orderite archer seemed to have the same idea, her bow put aside for a heavy, fallen weapon and, at a gesture from Raemos, moved to assist the firani hybrid.

He checked on the status of the caravan, and nodded, satisfied that he knew what was happening around him. With effort, he smashed at another mara, knocking off it's arm.

"Forward!" he ordered, "We cut a swath through them and get these people inside!" he struck again. The hammer was not as fine-tuned as his sword or his magic, but it did the job and it did it satisfactorily. "On my mark!" he said, glancing to see that most - though understandably not all - of his troops were looking at him or trying to. "One. Two." He finished off the mara he was fighting, slamming its remains out of his way, "Three! Now!" he called, pressing forward, hammer ready.

Dovaa, Apprentice Battler
Eowyn

Nehelini had curled tighter as he heard a female voice. Oh great someone else to judge him cause he was small. The child heard the claw scratches meaning Tallulah or Eyphah were walking towards him. Most likely Tallulah, Eyphah hadn't really been too warm with him. Nehelini mused to himself that the darker male was a lot like his Uncle Jaxirus. Uncle Jaxirus wasn't too touchy with him or his brother, Uncle Rhys was. The child flet arms...arms....that meant....he looked up.

Tallulah was in his more human-looking form. A form the child was more relaxed with, he let the male lift him up. Snuggling into the other male's chest to make himself as small as possible. He glanced at the female once before hiding again. Nehelini was glad that he was taller than most child Dovaa...but he was still small against the chest of the bigger male.

Sorry about the late post, I missed your earlier post some how. I hope this one is an alright catch-up post. ^_^

Junjie saw the magic of the others before him at work, magic that interested him for a moment but he knew that now was not the time for them to be getting distracted. There were still various Mara between his people and the safety that was before them. He made a motion, "Alright, we are going to move again, get ready for an opening to get into the city." He called to those that were following along after him. He had to make sure that his whole group got inside the walls or Tukyere safely. As they moved forward he found himself watching an Oblvionite who seemed as though he might be in charge of the troops as he came forth into the fray. He watched for a moment, taking in the skill he used to dispatch some of the Mara, before he was coming toward them.

The man seemed friendly enough, which was good, and was even encouraging his group as far as them getting within the walls safely was concerned. He gave the man a smile and a nod of his head before he nudged Abellio, "You take Keona inside, as well as accompany the others." He told the Ysali Alihora. He gave him a smile, "Don't worry, I will be alright, I have Arjan right here with me."

Abellio looked a little displeased with the idea but finally nodded, waiting for the female who was carrying her little son in her arms to catch up with him and said, "You can put him on my back. It will make it easier for us to get inside." He told her, waiting for her to tuck her little one under the cloak along with Keona who the boy was only a little bit older then, before he moved a wing to shield her, the two of them rushing forward toward the gates. Abellio was quick to cast entangling spells where needed, tripping up the Mara that were in the way, allowing the four of them to get inside where they would be safe.

It was only when he knew that they were safe that Junjie gave a sighing sound of relief. With the weakest members of their group heading for safety Junjie turned to the others in his group, checking on them, then turned to look at the Oblvionite that was accompanying them, "I thank you for the aid. It's not an easy thing to come by these days." Especially for those in his group. Hybrids or those who traveled with and sympathized with them were often looked down upon. As such having someone like this, a pure blood at that, who was actually willing to help them out meant a lot to Junjie. More then the man before him would ever know.

"Alright, Arjan, gather your power, there are more of them on the way it seems." There were many soldiers around them but they couldn't let their guard down nor could they just flee. These soldiers had been kind enough to help them out after all, to make sure the weakest in their group, those unable to fight, were able to get to safety. As such he wanted to help them in return. Especially given that the Mara seemed to be so interested in Tukyere. The fact that there were so many living beings inside likely made it a prime target and who else but those who lived there would care to try to defend it? It was a safe haven for hybrids, a place that a lot of purebloods would probably rejoice over seeing fall. It was up to the few who were willing to defend the place to do so, Junjie amongst them.

Arjan glanced at his bonded before nodding, gathering his power to him as his partner did the same, he could tell what it was that Junjie was thinking and as such he knew he would need to assist. He saw how many people were in the area, how many Mara were in the area, and to make sure that they were alright he meant start to tend to the wounded. Due to this fact Arjan would be ont he offensive. As Junjie started to cast his healing spells, sticking to those from his Ysali spells so as not to risk harming those with Oblvionite blood instead of healing them. As he cast a strange thing happened, that being the plants that seemed to spring up around his feet, plants that seemed to glow a faint green. It was a sure sign that he was casting many healing spells, powerful ones at that, one of each of the warriors that he was able to see. Each of the basic spells that he cast would add to the power, allowing him to cast a stronger healing spells if the need arose. It would likely cause him to end up drained quicker then he'd like but best that he focus on tending to the soldiers. If they were kept whole and healthy they would be able to keep up the fight against the Mara. It was the least he could do after they'd helped him out.

Arjan on the other hand set to blasting the Mara that got too close with his electric spells determined to keep Junjie safe. It was something the others in his group were doing as well, making a semi-circle around him as he cast, aiding Arjan in his task. As a whole they might be able to fend off the Mara and allow them all to return to the city in one piece. It was a rather strange group that seemed to have gathered with the desire to keep each other safe but at least they were working together instead of against each other. Having a group like this in one place and one one side was something that Junjie would silently celebrate. It was a nice thing to see though he knew that it was unlikely to be something that was going to happen again outside of this place, especially given who had created the Mara. If anything things were just going to become more messy then they already were, or so he feared. It was a fear for another day though, they had enough to worry about in the present without putting a lot of worry into the possible future.

Its fine! What do you wanna do now?

Raemos blocked a mara's blow, shoving it back with some effort. "It is no problem, sir." he said, giving Junjie a nod, "But thank me when you are safe within the walls..." he grunted as he barely dodged a mara's sword, shoving it back with the hammer. It was difficult to use for Raemos, who was not trained to a hammer, and there was clearly more to it than just hitting and smashing.

He hadn't known he was injured until he felt the wounds close and heal with the soothing touch of the magic and felt a sense of renewal surge through him. This bothered him - just how badly could he be injured and not know it?

He knew he had to take care of himself - he was not long out of the infirmary. As if to remind him, his stomach muscles clenched, and he winced.

But getting the caravan inside safely was priority. Then he could get checked out. He bought himself some breathing room and looked Junjie over again. "Can you perhaps do that from the walls?" he asked thoughtfully, backing towards the healer and the wall and, also, the gate that led inside the city.

Good question, maybe a bit more RP between the two group leaders? Then after that maybe another hunt? I am up for most anything. ^_^

Results of the Second Mara Hunt

Kill Count: 5

Loot Obtained:

Iron bars x 15
Plain Cloths x 2
Moonstones x 5
Shattered Granite x 5
Small Hammer x 1
Diamond x 5
Arcanite x 10
Obsidian x 20

When it seemed as though it was safe enough to do so Junjie lowered his dragon headed staff, drew in a deep, steadying breath, before he turned to look at the Oblvionite before him, "Are you alright?" He asked of him, seeing the way that he'd winced and wondered if his spells to this point hadn't been enough. Was the man seriously injured? In need of more of his attention? A thought that had Arjan giving a little rumbling growl as though he didn't quite approve of the idea of Junjie helping out anymore then he already had when their journey here had been a long one. Junjie lifted his free hand to rest it on the back of Arjan's neck, "Shhhh, it's alright."

Turning his attention to his people he said, "Come on! It's time to get moving back toward the gates!" He could see the Oblvionite moving meaning that they should start moving as well. The sooner they all got inside where it was safe the better. Once there he'd be able to check on his Abellio and those he'd escorted inside. Once he knew that everyone was alright and waiting for them then he would see about they should do next. He found himself glancing toward the Obvlionite at that thought. He seemed to be rather in the know, didn't he? Maybe he was a captain of the guard around this place or something? He seemed to be the best one to talk to when it came to getting a feel for the current situation. Junjie and his group were a little behind when it came to the news given their habits. As such coming he was probably the best thing they could have done.

"From the walls?" Junjie asked when the other man asked him if he could carry on with his healing from there. He glanced up a moment then gave a slow nod, "I might be able to but even my power has its limits. I will do what I can though. Once I have Abellio, my Alihora bonded, back with my we will be able to offer more assistance." Abellio was a Ysali just like him, often aiding him when it came to healing, with him there to help and Arjan to protect them, they should be able to do well enough, "I need to check on my family first though, make sure that they are all alright."

I like that idea. Chat, then CRUSH MARA XD
Incidentally, what happened was he got badly injured by a diamond mara (Punched in the stomach ow), and was literally released from the infirmary this same day XP

Raemos nodded, straightening - though his stomach still hurt from its phantom (or perhaps more than phantom) injuries. He held out a placating hand - either way, there were others far more injured than he was.

He made his way to the gate with the group, his troops holding off the mara and covering the caravan's entry before going in themselves. Raemos was the last to enter, helping to shut the gate behind him.

His stomach panged again, and she held it, wincing before he managed to regain his composure. Later. he would deal with that later.

He did a quick headcount - all troops accounted for, the refugees seemed all right.

Good.

He turned to the healer. "I ask because your magic did a lot of good out there, and I think it would be put to better use if you were protected. However, you know your magic best, and if you decide to go out into the field and help, please ask for Guardian assistance." he gave the man a bow, "Of course." He, Raemos, was not asking the man to do anything. Just suggesting.

He began to walk back to the wall to make his report to Seargent Miris, leaning briefly against a wall as a spell of vertigo came and went.

Later he thought, again. He had to make his report (and, he had to admit, show off how well he had done in his first few hours of command), and then he could rest a bit and have that pain checked out. It was probably nothing. He was sure it was nothing.

I will be moving to the Hunt thread after this post!
Orpheus Solon
Just figured I'd wrap this up and Orphy can get us started in the hunt thread.

Grrel gave a happy lash of her tail, "Been doing well! Got my wing blasted first time I ran into one of these Mara, but other than that hunting them hasn't been too painful." She lookd at Eyphah with a grin as he muttered and paced about.

"Smashing them is fun! Though I admit that I like using my magic more than claws for once... It hurts the claws after a while and I haven't tried biting one of them... I'd rather not lose a tooth or nail!" She turned her attention back to Tal and narrowed her eyes with a growl when she noticed the dovaa child.

"What is that thing doing in a Khehora lair? Do you know what they do to eggs!?" She ignored Tal's question, quite upset at this two legger in a lair. She hadn't seen any Dovaa... if she had she'd have attacked if they were close to the lair of any Khehora. She did not tolerate two leggers near nests.. ever. They were all thieves until proven innocent.. this one was probably just acting weak to get pity so he could steal and egg for power while the Khehora's shields were down!

Junjie gave the leader of the force a smile before he walked forward to where Abellio was waiting, the Ysali Alihora rushing forward to meet him in the middle. Giving a smile he reached out to him, giving him a hug before moving to lift his cloak up, "How are you doing under there, Keona?" He asked of the little girl who popped up the moment he lifted the cloak, knowing that it must be safe now.

"Daddy!" She chirped, lifting her arms up to him, her golden wings fluttering rapidly behind her as she wanted to get scooped up. It didn't take but a moment and a cute smile to get him to scoop her up into his arms. She then happily cuddled closer to him, lifting a hand up to play with one of the accessories in his hair. Turning to look over at Raemos, a new face to her, she starred at him a moment the purple light in her eyes quite intense for a moment before waving rapidly at the other guy, "Hi, hi!" She chirp, quite delighted, never having seen another like him, as well as like her, this close up before. It was something that was quite exciting for her.

Giving a soft smile Junjie shifted her so that she could sit on his hip before he walked over Raemos once more. Giving him a smile he said, "How many Mara are targetting this place? Given their obvious interest in those that aren't like themselves it must be quite lot?" He felt that if he was going to help out that he really should get a good idea what it was that they were facing in this place. He didn't want to put his family in danger but this place was the only one they were able to fall back to. Given how the Mara seemed to be spreading like a plague all they could really do was find a place like this whole up and try to make a stand. If things got too bad he would have to send Keona away with Arjan and Abellio no matter if they disapproved or not.

It was obvious from the looks he got that the thought wasn't one that sat well with the Khehora but for the moment, given how many people were around, they didn't protest. Instead they would just glower in a manner that Junjie would be able to feel even as he chatted with Raemos.

As Junjie asked his questions, and got his glares from the Khehora, Keona continued to stare, eyes eyes, lifting a hand to make grabby motions at him. It was something caused Junjie to give pause in his thoughts before looking down at her, "Heh, seems Keona rather likes you." He said with a chuckle.

Raemos found Srg. Miris on the wall, talking to one of the other Corporals. It was strange - very strange - to think of them and himself s of the same rank, a good sort of strange that he liked.

He waited for them to finish and then approached.

"Medrol? In one piece?" She looked him over sternly, her expression - as always with the hybrid - hard to read. "Good. Put this on," she handed Raemos a temporary Corporal insignia, "Until you get a proper uniform with the right stripes." He nodded, fastening it to his shoulder.

He gave his report - all back inside, safe and sound, and a few mara killed along the way. He neglected, of course, to report his injury. Why should he? It was nothing - probably nothing - and he would get it dealt with anyway.

"Good work. You said the refugee leader was a healer? Good. See if you can get him to help, and await further orders." She saluted, "Dismissed, Corporal!"

He saluted and returned to the crowded streets near the gate, nodding in achknowledgement as the hybrid came over carrying... another hybrid. His child, then?

"A lot." he agreed, "It's an army out there, it looks like, complete with mages and warriors. They are in formation and organized, and they appear resistant to dark magic... Thank you again," he said, remembering again the magicked roots that had torn through the mara between them and safety, "For your assistance."

He struggled to stay professional as the child proceeded to stay adorable, eventually giving up the fight. She was clearly mostly an oblivionite, and her mostly empty sockets unnerved him.

But the delighted look on her face and the way she reached for him were just too cute. He smiled a small smile at her and gently took her hand and bowed slightly over it. "Well, its a pleasure to meet you, Keona" he said, glad she was safe in Tukyere, as safe as such a city could be, anyway. He let go of her hand and straightened, offering it's recently vacated grasp to her father instead.

"Corporal Raemos Medrol, of the Guardians." he said, taking a brief moment to enjoy his new title as he introduced himself. "And you are...?"

DraconicFeline

"An army." Junjie mused to himself, a bit worried about the fact that the Mara were in such numbers that he would refer to them in such a way. He'd seen them though, wandering around, and in numbers that Junjie didn't care for. He would much rather that they were able to take them down, to win against them, but he worried now. If they were so many here what about other places? What about the safety of his mother? Or his teacher? His various friends who were spread across the world. He couldn't help but to feel worry spreading through him even though he tried not to show it. He couldn't let Keona know how bad the danger really was after all. She was so small and innocent after all. She needed to be protected from... well, everything at this point. She was still so tiny and all she had was him.

He gave a thoughtful sound at the mention of them being resistant to dark type magic, it made him wonder if light based magic would then work well on them. At the same time it wasn't something that he wanted to use too much of if there were Oblivionites around. It could cause them great harm and that was the last thing he wanted, to wound an ally. He would have to be careful with what spells he used and when, to make sure that he didn't aid the Mara in their quest. Giving a bit of a shrug Junjie said, "There is nothing to thank me for, I was aiding where I should be aiding, helping those around me, making sure to get my family to safety. I was glad to help." This man had done more after all then Junjie had done, making it so that his group could get inside Tukyere's walls.

Keona starred up at the man in front of her then gave a bit of a squealing sound when he said her name, seeming as though she were quite delighted at the sound. How nice, to see someone who looked like her and to hear him say her name! It had her giving a little clap of her tiny hands. It was that smile, that laughter, that Junjie meant to protect.

"It's good to meet you Corporal Medrol, my name is Junjie Moana." He introduced himself, feeling it only polite that he do so, giving his last name which he rarely did, since the Corporal had done so himself.

Tohru Soleiris and Company
Expert Kiandri Dovaa
Entering Taliuma (Eastern Port) from the Desert

"There it is," Zera grumbled as she pointed off across the wispy sands to a huddle of buildings pressed against the coast. Tohru squinted at the little splodge and wondered if he perhaps was missing out in the perfect vision department... He probably wouldn't have even noticed the port, unless Zera pointed it out. From where the Kiandri stood, it looked completely peaceful, sounded completely peaceful, not as if it was besieged by Mara at all. Of course, he doubted that was the case... It still looked like a pretty far distance. Once they were closer, he was sure there would be a bit more turmoil...

He tipped his head back to blink questioningly at Cela. "Your friend really stayed in this town with Mara attacking? It... seems dangerous. Couldn't he be...?" 'Dead?' Tohru bit back the word and passed his tongue across his bottom lip. He didn't know much about Ash, the Dovaa they were hunting for, but if he'd really stayed in this town alone all the time they'd been traveling... He shook his head. It didn't make any sense. Why would he wait here of all places?

Cela shrugged. "Just wait, Tohru. You'll see when we get there. You'll probably be able to pick him out right off the bat!"

What I've Done

Tohru stared at the new Dovaa as a squealing blond girl darted past to lock her arms around Ash. "You're alive," Cela squealed in delight, snuggling her face into his chest, the highest part of him her cheek could reach. "Of course I knew you would be, so..." She smiled sheepishly and glanced down. The Kiandri tipped his head. Was that Cela blushing. She was a girl, so it wasn't out of the question, he just... hadn't expected to see it. Although, when faced with this particular brand of Magescian, he supposed any girl would swoon.

Ash hugged her back, potentially snapping her tiny spine as he grinned. "There'll be time for a reunion later. Let's get through this, first."

Can We Dance?

"They're calming down," Tohru murmured in surprise as the dregs of seemingly endless mara suddenly seemed to fade away. As nice as it would be to believe he and his friends were the cause of it, that seemed like wishful thinking, at best.

Vega shrugged. "Whatever the reason, if we put in all our effort now, we should start seeing some serious results. Let's kick 'em outta here."
