What I've Done
**Click the title to be taken to the song!**

The rest of the trek into the port went completely unhindered, with all the Mara already occupied laying siege to the small town. Tohru wrung his hands together as they drew near, so near that the sounds of the oncoming commotion could be heard. They'd been safe- safer in the desert, so going back into town seemed ridiculous. Especially if it was just for someone who'd been here for who knew how long. Tohru glanced at Cela from the corner of his eye, then shifted to Vega on the other side of him. How would they react if their friend really wasn't here...? He'd never seen any of them sad... Annoyed at the desert, yes, but never sad. Of course there were other people entering and leaving the port. A few of them seemed to make it in and out okay. But their friend, Ash, just stayed here. It seemed unlikely that anyone who stayed around in one place would make it for too long...

"In any event, we're all going in now, and we'll all come out later. Everybody get ready. Keep your guard up. Look after yourselves. It's about to get messy," Vega gave one last warning as they neared the first hurdle. The small port was surrounded by natural barriers, such as sands dunes, and the ocean. Since the mara had no need to come by boat (having their headquarters in Eowyn, anyway), the townspeople kept their backs to the sea and focused their efforts instead on blocking other ways into the town. The group ended up scrambling over a few rock piles and sand bags as they made their way in.

The Mara must have initially pushed in with more force than the little port had been ready for. The people were being shoved back, despite the barricades, but were holding their ground right in the middle of the town. By the looks of things, homes and shops had been abandoned, now sitting empty as little more than potential ambush locations.

Vega cast a glance over her shoulder at the twins. "You two go on and find Ash. We'll deal with a few of the Mara down here. Give these people a little more room to move." Atris and Niteo grinned in their wayward, mischievous way before before disappearing in a popping crackle of light magic. Tohru glanced up in time to see one of them jumping along the rooftops, bypassing the fray below with delightful ease. Tohru chewed on his bottom lip. With the twins gone, that just left four of the group left to start chopping away at Mara. And Tohru was one of them, so... Well, it didn't seem like a great idea to him.

Vega slunk her arm about his shoulder. "No need to fret, little one. We'll be with you. And all the townsfolk will be too busy thumping Mara to pay you any mind. All you need to do is worry about not hitting a friendly and keeping yourself alive. That doesn't seem so hard, does it?"

Tohru swallowed. The trip through the mountains hadn't been as challenging as one might expect. They took most of it at a leisurely stroll, with plenty of breaks for rest and food. Occasionally, a mara would attack, and the Magescians would band together and fend off the little rocky cluster of trouble. Tohru had even helped. He'd practiced fighting style with Vega and had even worked on magic control with the twins (they were surprisingly helpful, despite Tohru's reservations of them). That was all fine and dandy, but... He'd always had space then. He'd always had room to scramble away. His friends kept out of his firing zone when he was attacking.

He didn't have that here. These people weren't going to scurry out of his way if he misfired a shot. They were busy focusing on other things at the moment. Tohru liked to think he was improving, that he was getting stronger and had more control over his powers, but... Well, he still didn't trust himself in a crowd, and he was surprised his friends would, either.

Cela lightly touched his arm, drawing his attention over to her. She smiled softly, her emerald orbs alight with excitement and delight, though her actions were much more gentle than that. She tipped her head, blond curls bobbing about as she moved. "It's just more practice," she insisted. "I don't know if you've noticed, but you really aren't the best with focus and precision. Actually, you're quite wild." Tohru grimaced. "So this is a special kind of practice! We'll be right here with you, so you can take your time. Go slow, and actually think about what you're going to do. Take a moment to see what's around you. It'll get easier to see right away if something isn't going to work if you just take it slowly for now."

He could practically hear Ithric telling him to pay more attention to his surroundings, felt how frustrated the elder Peisio would get if Tohru's gaze happened to wander to his feet or his twiddling fingers. He remembered talking with Cadeo about his daughter, and he remembered... singing when he'd first considered using his magic of his own accord. He'd hardly even though of doing that again since Ithric had been lost... It had worked for him then, or at least, it had worked better than him doing nothing to assist himself. He chewed his lips as he nodded slowly. "You're right. I'll have patience," he agreed.

They lost themselves somewhere among the midst of mara and other Magescian fighters. Tohru did his best to consistently keep track of at least one, if not two of the people he actually recognized. Cela and Vega seemed willing to stick near to him, while Zera had more freedom to move and maneuver.

The Kiandri didn't even try to land any finishing blows, despite his promise. He stood as far away from the mara as he dared, keeping himself planted between Vega and Cela as best he could. He shot of streams of lightning if anything approached too closely, as he hummed a stream of vocals under his breath. Too quiet for his companions to hear, anyway, what with the stream of crashing battle sounds to hold their attentions. Vega was enough aware of him to crunch through anything he hit, though. Whenever a mara wandered far enough from the cluster of battle that Tohru felt safe to attack, a bolt of white lightning shot across the ground, skittering free from his frame and crackling against the earth before leaping up to seize its target and knock it away. Vega pounced then, assaulting it with harsh, jarring blows from her gloved fists until it was reduced to rubble.

His golden gaze flickered off to where Cela slipped back from the fight. The Ysali girl wasn't the strongest in battle, but her healing made her a much better asset in other areas, anyway. the two of his companions were occupied on opposite sides of him now, too busy and too wrapped up to dart to the Kiandri's aid. Which meant when Tohru shot something down, he had to keep it down with his own power. And that was scary.

"Kyah! Help me!" The voice came from a few yards away. Tohru could just barely make out a woman that had been separated from the group of attacking Magescians. Dark skin and hair, probably of Oblivionite descent. It was hard to tell with the mara surrounding her. The Kiandri glanced around quickly. It looked like everyone had their hands full at the moment... Even now, the mara outnumbered the people in this city. His gaze flickered back to the woman. She crouched on the ground, her wand out of her grasp. No, she wasn't crouching. It was a stone arm, protruding from the earth and holding her in place by her ankle.

One of the mara raised its weapon, A bladed pole-arm. Tohru stared ahead at her. If he did nothing, she would die. Even if he failed to save her, at least he could say he tried. He moved farther away from his two companions, lightning crackling around his feet and his hands as he ran towards the attacking mara. he was just so far away. It's weapon swung down. With a shout, Tohru released a bolt from his arm, aimed strait at the rocky creature.

He didn't know whether he hit or not. The next instant he was being shoved backward, literally forced off his feet and slammed on the ground by a harsh gust of wind that came straight from above. He could've easily been imagining sounds, but it almost seemed like all the mara had been knocked away by the burst as well, sending them scattering away from the hurricane-like force.

Tohru pushed himself up, scrambling to see what had become of the woman, whether good or bad. A man stood next to her, offering her a hand to help her to her feet. The blast must not have affected her as much as it had everyone around her... Even her hair was still as in-place as it had been before. The woman paused to stare at him for a moment. Tohru didn't know much of Oblivionite expressions, but he'd almost say she was flustered. She stammered out a quick 'thank you' before retrieving her wand and scurrying back to her comrades.

Tohru blinked at the stranger. His stare must have attracted the other man's attention, because a moment later, the Ayrala Dovaa was helping Tohru to stand as well, smirking at him like some kind of demon. "Hey there. Name's Ash."
