Can We Dance?
**Click the title to be taken to the song!**

As Ash slipped out of Cela's hold to launch another assault on the remaining rocky bodies, Tohru paused and took a moment to inspect him. That was what Cela and Vega had been trying to get him to do, right? Pay attention to his surroundings? Ash's surprisingly well-built frame happened to encompass quite a bit of the smaller Kiandri's field of vision.

The Dovaa was tall, broad, and had to weigh at least two times Tohru's own weight, probably more. It was strange to think an Ayrala could be anything but dainty, but it seemed unlikely that anyone had ever described Ash with so feminine a word. Dark, dark skin, only appearing brown where the sun hit it just right. It contrasted harshly against the pale grey of sleek, amphibious-like scales and the dusting of grey in his hair. Even the roots of his horns were black, fading in wisps of smokey grey to almost white at the top.

And his wings. They might as well have been thick leather monsters in their own right. Wind or not, Tohru doubted they had any trouble supporting even Ash's broad figure.

"Whatcha got there in your pants, Tohru?"

The Kiandri flinched. Had Cela been standing there the whole time staring at him staring at Ash- Wait. What did she say? There was not a word to describe the soul-shattering horror that lanced through the Kiandri's frame, practically knocking him off his feet. "I-I don't have-" Tohru squeaked out in terror, flushing bright crimson and squinting his eyes shut in humiliation as he tugged his shirt down.

The Ysali girl nudged his side with her bony elbow, coaxing him to crack open a golden orb. "I was only teasing," she giggled. Though the younger Dovaa's actions made her think she probably wasn't too far off the mark... "Sort of," Cela amended with a shrug.

Tohru winced.

She smiled at him. "You should go help him clear through those monsters," Cela encouraged. She flicked him in the chest with her index finger. "You can show off a little, develop some bonding-teamwork skills, or whatever. It's good practice." At Tohru's hesitance, she gave him a slightly less arguable shove toward tall, dark, and Dovaa. "Go on!"

Whether he wanted to or not, Tohru found himself stumbling over to the Ayrala man as he deflected and captured one of the mara's rocky projectiles in a gyrating capsule of wind. "Hi," he whispered out as his feet carried him within speaking range of Ash. The boulder spun at an alarming rate, trembling so much it was likely to crumble upon itself, before Ash sent it in a sound barrier-breaking jet at the nearest mara. Any noise Tohru had tried to make was instantly lost. The projectile shot through the mara's head with a sound that rivaled thunder. The Kiandri swallowed. He'd hate to be on the other team right now...

He cast a glance back at Cela. She stood up straight, and made some jerking arm movement that he expected was supposed to resemble Tohru when he attacked. Ash clearly didn't need his help. That much was obvious. But he was as much a part of a team now as he ever had been, so he had to do his best to work well alongside them. The mara numbers were dwindling, if only because there had probably never been that many devoted to this small port, anyway. If they were going down, Tohru could muster his strength to help destroy a few more.

He pooled his magic around him, focusing most of his effort on keeping stray crackles from leaping out and hitting Ash. Otherwise, he shot out at anything that moved. His weak shocks were nothing like the finishing deathblows that the Ayrala could send out, but Tohru couldn't have cared any less about that if he tried. He didn't think he cared, anyway. At least until one of Ash's offhand comments fluttered to him on the breeze. "C'mon... You gotta crank it up more than that, or you're just wasting your efforts..."

Tohru stilled. The comment itself didn't bother him so much as the tone. Dreary, bored, disappointed. The first thing Tohru thought to do was apologize. But before he could, there was a hand grabbing his shoulder and pushing his back. "Stand up straight. Have some self respect." Ash huffed. "There. It's hard to fight when you're all curled up in a ball. Energy likes to travel straight, y'know." Tohru held his breath. There was a pause as Ash waited for him. A few seconds was too long. "Give it another shot. Don't hold back."

Tohru let out a dissatisfied hum. He was holding back for Ash's benefit, not just to be annoying. Rather than argue, he gave a tight nod. Cela had wanted him to show off, so if he was going to be battling alongside someone like this... He straightened his back, pulling his fists toward himself as Vega had taught him during their practices. He'd complained of being different than her, but even Vega couldn't smite her targets from a distance like this. Lightning sparked along his arm as he drew his fist back. A solid ten feet separated him and his nearest target, but that didn't matter.

He exhaled softly and shot his powers forward, thrusting the magic from his arm with a sharp exclamation. It bolted forward in less than the blink of an eye, shattering through the torso of a nearby mara. Residual static sparked through the air, giving a tiny shock to anyone who stood too close. Tohru turned to look over his shoulder at Ash.

The Ayrala smirked at him, a flash of white teeth that sent a shiver down Tohru's spine. "If that's the extent of your abilities, you shouldn't be so worried about someone getting hurt. Even young Kiandri should be able to do that."

Tohru flushed. He'd almost grown accustomed to not being looked down on while in the presence of his new friends, but it was particularly unappealing to hear it from Ash. He felt a sudden stab of something, something foreign and unfamiliar, something that had the Kiandri's brows knitting in confusion. He almost didn't know why his magic coiled around in his palm again, but some sudden burn of desire flared in him. Some need to show this man that he wasn't useless or worthless and for no reason should he be looked down upon.

Tohru moved away from Ash, his feet moving of their own accord. He would've even been willing to believe that it was someone else moving him about. That he was being spurred on by some outside being's emotions. Sparks erupted from his feet, jetting him forward and onto the next mara. Electricity curled in his fist, and as he shot to within scant inches of his target, he released it, sending out a plume of lightning that berated the rock and pierced through it with ease. From the front, it looked like merely a small chunk had been taken out, but from the back, it exploded, sending a spray of rocky debris cascading from behind it.

The first time he'd tried to attack from so close, he'd shattered nearly ever bone in his hand. But now... Tohru gazed down at the back of his hand, where he had only a few collision scrapes from the rough body to show for his efforts this time. He may not be as advanced as others of his age, but he was improving. That was enough for now.

"Believe me," Tohru murmured, his golden gaze trailing back to the Ayrala. "This is not all I can do."
