The Basics:

Name: Riley
Type: Riolu
Gender: Male
Stage: Teen
Likes: Reading, gardening, singing, movies
Dislikes: Anything that might scare him, being so afraid all the time
Personality: The opposite of what one would expect from a fighting type. Nearly everything startles him, freaks him out, or otherwise makes him worry to no end. Living with a family of tough and brave Riolu, Riley is the black sheep of the crew and often given tasks to keep out of the way, which is fine with him.

Despite being afraid of his own shadow, he is quite used to being around pokemon, humans, and pokehumans alike, living with his family on the edge of a fairly large town. He likes being around others, as long as they aren't scary, and enjoys a safe adventure now and then. Though, if things get tough.. he's not guaranteed to stick around. As he gains experience, his confidence, though low, is growing. He spends the majority of his time between training in martial arts and dance.

Status: Single **plotted**

Abilities: Quick Attack, Foresight, Endure, Counter, Force Palm
Type: Fighting
Body: Lean and muscular, a little shorter than average
Pokemon Info: Riolu

~Child Stage; Reaction To Changes; Part 1~

When he found his star, Riley never had any dreams of being anything more than what he was. Well, sure, the small riolu imagined himself as bigger, stronger, braver... At least, enough to get his siblings to stop teasing him, and for his parents to not be ashamed of him. The runt of his family, Riley was no fighter, and had no desire to be one. Imagine himself stronger, yes. Most definitely. Dream that it could actually happen? Ha! As if someone like him could do anything special.

The day that changed his life started out like any other. Riley woke up, came out of the cave they lived in to have his snout stomped into the dirt by his sister, and have his father tell him to be useful and fetch water. He fetched the water skin, slung it over his shoulder, and headed down the familiar path. Their trainers in the big house just beyond the cave were already out and about as well, cleaning up the field to prepare for practice. Ugh. He never got to practice; unless being pounded into the ground by his big brother counted as practice...

Once he reached the creek where they got their water, he felt himself pause and look down along the water bed. The clear water flowed down from a thicket of briars and bushes, and flowed down into more of the same. Straying from the path to see where the water came from had always been out of the question. The small riolu was afraid of his own shadow, so forget about the shadows of the overgrown land around him! Yet, today, something made him look up the low hill that the creek drained down. He could feel a draw today to climb...

Legs shaking, he headed up the hill on all fours, crawling under and around the trees and bushes. He should turn back. This was too scary! His legs kept climbing, until... a clearing! Riley’s eyes lit up at the sight of the sunlit clearing filled with flowers and grasses. Beautiful! ...Hopefully there wouldn’t be any bees with all these flowers... And then, he saw the well. Oh! Riley gave an excited yip as he hurried over to the stone well covered with ivy and climbing roses and moss. It instantly made him think of the movie he often watched with his young trainer. The movie about the girl, Snow White, and he dwarven friends. Giggling to himself, he couldn’t resist softly singing the wishing well song to himself as he climbed up into the ledge, feeling his heart pound with confusion and excitement. Him, on a ledge! Well, of course, it was the only way to reach the crank to bring up the rope! Just like the pretty girl had done in the movie! Of course, his words were a little different. He didn’t want the love of a prince. He wanted to be able to love himself...

He didn’t know what drove him to, but he soon enough had the bucket rising from the depths of the well, hearing his little voice echoing on the stone. Could this be a wishing well, too?! He peered into the well, and... it wasn’t dark. Something bright was in the bucket itself! Tail twitching, he pulled the bucket to the ledge and reached for the shiny object, his breath caught in his chest while hearing it call his name, and he blacked out...

When he woke, the sun was low on the other side of the sky. Evening? Where had the day gone? Oh! He was supposed to have the water! Oh, pa was going to beat him good! He jumped to his feet, and reached for the bucket on the ledge of the well with his- his... hands? The riolu looked in shock at his human-like hands. What?! He jumped back from the well, and realized that he didn’t have to look up at the well ledge anymore. His red eyes looked down, and he screamed before dropping back on his butt. Legs! His legs! What happened to them?! He screamed again, and spun to get up, only to holler even more as something golden yellow hit him in the face. He reached to yank it off, but it pulled on his head. It had him! In an utter panic, he bolted down the hill on legs that were too long, and stumbled more often than not.

By the time he reached the house and the den, Riley was bruised and filthy and had sticks and leaves stuck to him, and both the trainers and his family looked at him in confusion. He begged for help, and was met with a kick to the face by his father, who was only defending his family from the crazy stranger. As he blacked out once again, Riley was relieved. If anyone could knock out whatever had changed him, it would be pa.

~Child Stage; Reaction To Changes; Part 2~

Riley woke up in the house, eyes blinking lethargically. Why was he in the house? The humans didn’t like them sleeping here. That was why they had the den outside. A yawn snuck up, and he gasped as the motion spread pain along his face. His eyes squeezed shut, and he raised his hand to gently touch his snout curiously. Umm. Where was his nose? His eyes opened and crossed. His nose! Where’d it go! He noticed his hand, and froze in his attempt to get up. His hand... It was different. He flashed back to waking up next to the well. It hadn’t changed back... Ready to cry again, he looked down along his body. He wasn’t a riolu anymore! Wait! He still had his tail! And the arm guards! And he was still blue! But...

Slowly, he turned and stood on quivering legs. He had human feet, human legs, human arms and hands... He looked around, and went over to the tall wall mirror, body trembling even more. He was so different... No wonder everyone had looked like they hadn’t known him. Someone had dressed him in a shirt and a pair of shorts, and a strange yellow hat. No. Not a hat. He had hair! That’s what had blocked his vision before! He raised his hand to run it through the hair curiously. Long and blonde... How curious.

A knock at the door made him turn, and he looked into the eyes of his trainer, a young boy exactly his height now. The boy looked back at Riley with a grin, and instantly ran over and gripped him in a hug. His boy.. was happy!

It took quite a while to adjust. While his form had changed, he was still basically the same build. Two arms, two legs, two eyes... The height was weird, and he was constantly knocking his head on things that he used to walk right under without a second thought. His trainer, Thomas, was more than eager to help him adjust though. Despite the odd crash and tumble, Thomas’ help made it that much easier. What wasn’t easy was how his family suddenly wanted even less to do with him than before. His brother and sister still bullied him, and his parents were cold and aloof.

He lived more with the humans now, much to Thomas’ delight. He and Riley grew even closer, and Riley grew more confident in his new body. It was a couple months before he thought to go see the well again.

He held Thomas’ hand tightly as he walked the path to the creek. He might be bigger, but the shadows were as scary as ever. The clearing was golden brown with the fall season at the time, and the well remained standing just as before. Riley was almost afraid the well might change him back, but there was no need for concern. The well.... it had granted his wish. He was part human. He was accepted by Thomas. He was stronger, and had a friend. It truly was a wishing well, like Snow White had once had to herself. Dreams, even dreams he didn’t know he had... they could all come true.

~Child Stage; AIM PD: Meeting Chloe~

Red eyes even more red than usual, Riley sat hunkered down in a field of wild flowers. Not even the cool breeze and the sounds of the birds could ease his hurt though. Another family fight... They were becoming more and more frequent as of late... He sniffled and rubbed his nose along his sleeve, and then grimaced at the now sticky clothing. Eww...

Usually Chloe preferred to ignore strangers in the forest, but after staring for a while towards the boy she felt her heart weaken. Was something wrong? Her gaze softened as she looked at his distressed state. I guess I really am weak when it comes to these things. Sighing the scatterbug emerged from the trees to tiptoe lightly behind Riley, "Are...are you alright?"

Trying to wipe his sleeve on a nearby fern while still sniffling, Riley yelped and jumped up at the sound of the voice behind him. Oh... He rubbed at his eyes and shook his head. “N-not really,” he admitted. “M-my father... said he’d dis-disown m-me if I di-disappoint-t him again.” He ducked his head and rubbed his face onto his sleeve. “I-I can’t do an-anything right! All I had t-to do was d-duel m-my cousin and not let-let my family down. Th-they challenged m-me because they know...” His face burned bright and he shook his head. “I-I’m not strong like them.. Even after changing like th-this.” He looked over at the girl and ducked his head back down. “S-sorry.”

"Ah." Chloe's gaze was kind as she looked towards Riley, "Well maybe you aren't meant to fight then." She commented quietly as she blinked towards the other poke-human, "Can't your dad understand that?" She didn't really understand the concept of family, but Kyllian had never disowned her for not liking fights. She absolutely despised violence after all...

Still she crossed her arms, "Are you thinkin' that cryin' like this will help though?" The scatterbug nodded slowly, "If you aren't strong like them...can't you just try to become stronger so you can beat them one day?" She bit her bottom lip thoughtfully, "Unless you hate violence too...then you should prove to them that there's other things that make you stand out! Right?" She smiled, "Can't your dad be proud of you for other things?"

Riley blinked at Chloe through his tears in shock. She.. wasn’t laughing at him? “Father only understands fighting. We-we’re riolu, after all.”

He flinched from her question, and ducked his head yet again. He couldn’t even face this girl... Unless he hated violence? His gaze shot up, and his lip quivered. “I don’t like fighting! At all! But that’s all my family does! Duel and fight and win medals and make everyone proud of them.” He sniffled again. “I don’t have anything to be proud of... I don’t want to stand out or be the best at anything. I just... wanna be me.” He sighed softly, tears still welling up but his voice stabilizing. “I know that sounds silly... Everyone always has a plan for bigger and better things. I feel like the only one who doesn’t sometimes.”

Hearing that made Chloe sigh sadly. Why couldn't some just understand that the whole world wasn't about fighting. She absolutely refused to participate in it. Nope, nope, never! Her hands went to her hips as she shook her head, "Just because you're a riolu doesn't mean you should all fight!" She pouted, "After all I'm just a scatterbug...does that mean I'm just supposed to get squished all the time?"

They couldn't help who they were born as, but they could choose their future right?

"Hey...hey now." Chloe's voice softened as she reached out and touched the boy's shoulder, "I think fighting isn't fun either..." She scrunched up her mouth thoughtfully, "Then what's wrong with being just you?" The scatterbug shook her head, "I'm sure your dad won't actually disown you! Maybe he's just worried cause he thinks that fighting is the only way a riolu can live...but it's not! You're special after all already." She smiled, "You've changed too and that's special...plus maybe you can prove to your dad that you're fine just being you. He shouldn't have to worry so much as long as you can prove to him that fighting isn’t the only thing a riolu can do."

She shook her head, "Plus I'm tiny...I always hid in the shadows and I still don't know what I'm doing. I'm sure that you just haven't found it yet...but there surely is something out there that you'll definitely shine at!"

Riley couldn’t believe his little glowing ears. Someone who.. felt the same way that he did about fighting! About being yourself! About... He brushed at his eyes again. “Me being me is what’s wrong. I’m not like my family at all... and they don’t like that. It was bad enough when I was a pokemon and didn’t like fighting, but now... they don’t even see me as one of them anymore. My brother says I’m one wussy point away from being cut off from the family. I know he’s mostly just being a jerk, but...”

Of course, despite all his fears and doubts, the young riolu was still a dreamer. Having this little scatterbug girl tell him he could still find his spark to show his parents who he was, he couldn’t help the extra bit of light returning to his eyes. “You really think so?” He reached to his shoulder to take Chloe’s hand. “You’re really brave, you know? I’m sure you’ll find what you are, too!”

Chloe frowned, "That's silly of them. Family is family no matter what! I mean...I have two friends who might as well be family and even though we can be very different at times and spat we still care about each other." She shook her head in disbelief, "I highly doubt that your brother is right. Sounds like he's just being a butt to ya."

"Of course I do!" Chloe smiled before flushing at the touch, "Thank you..." She paused shyly, "Brave? I wouldn't say that...but I'm glad." Her smile brightened, "You've really seemed to have gotten your spirit back~ That's good."

Riley nodded. “I wish they could see that... Maybe I’ll be able to show them one day, like you said!” He smiled sadly. “Yeah, my brother likes to pick on me a lot. I guess I’m an easy target.” He looked up and brightened his smile. “But I won’t always be! He’ll see! I’ll do.. something.” Giggling, he couldn’t help pulling Chloe into a hug. “Because of you. Thank you. I.. should get home now. My trainer will be worried. He’s my friend, and my family, too.” He turned to go, but then spun back. “Oh! What’s your name? Mine’s Riley! ..I hope I can see you again sometime.”

"One day I'm sure they will!" Chloe smiled brightly, "Until then you've got this!" The little scatterbug was always full of optimism. After all wasn't it her own goal to find her own light into this world one day? Surely if she could make it then Riley would as well, "Good luck!"

Flushing at the hug she nodded, "You're welcome." The girl waved loosely, "Riley? I'm Chloe! Hopefully we will see each other again!" His comment about his trainer rang true with her...would Kyllian and Kole be worried about her? Maybe...I'll swing by home after all now. Humming softly under her breath Chloe turned and as her newest friend left she too faded into the shadows beneath the trees.

~Child Stage; Solo 1; A Fateful Trip~

It was supposed to be a simple trip to the store. Riley was going with Thomas to pick up a few groceries for the house. When they got to the store, Riley saw a strange looking man standing by the door. The human was nervous, twitchy, and shuffling his feet. He made Riley nervous, but Riley said nothing. He didn’t want to make a scene. Inside, the boys collected their groceries, and headed to the counter. The moment they reached it though, the nervous man from outside jumped in and pointed a gun at them, shouting for money from both the register and the boys.

Riley began to tremble. He could see it now. His aura! The man began to glow in Riley’s eyes, but it was such a dark glow, such a dark red-orange color that it would flicker with sharp tones of brown. This man was filled with fear and anger and greed... This man was desperate. Riley shrunk back, but Thomas stood strong. The man yelled again, but Thomas refused to hand over their money. They’d worked hard for it!

The man advanced on them... Riley hid behind Thomas... The gun was swung around and struck Thomas’ head. Riley screamed, the shop owner hollered, and the thief grabbed Thomas’ bag and ran. Riley dropped to check on Thomas, pressing a hand to the cut on the boy’s head. Tears filled his eyes, and his body trembled as the shop owner called the hospital.

It was later that evening before they got home. Thomas’ parents had come to pick them up. They wouldn’t speak to Riley, and told him to stay out of the house for the night. Thomas’ siblings glared at him. His own parents and siblings were all over him though. By the time they were done with him, he couldn’t cry anymore. He’d let Thomas down. He was a riolu, and hadn’t protected his trainer. He’d let some thief get away with their hard earned money. He’d been such a wimp. He was a disgrace to the riolu kind, to his family. If they’d known he was going to turn out to be so weak, they would have smothered him as a baby! (Okay, that last part came from his brother’s mouth.)

Riley dragged himself back to the wishing well, feeling as though he might sink into the ground with each heavy step. Burning eyes stared down into the depths. Why hadn’t he been able to read auras before now? Why couldn’t he see that until the man was already inside, threatening them? Why couldn’t he use his powers like a normal riolu? He’d thought growing would have made him stronger. Dreams. What were dreams? They'd made him feel like he could be something. Instead.... he was nothing. He would always be nothing...

~Child Stage; Skill Learned! 'Counter'~

“I don’t see why I have to keep doing this,” Riley pouted as he pulled on a pair of knee guards. “I’m a human now. Why do I still have to train?”

“You’re a pokehuman!” Thomas replied with a giggle and a shake of his head. “Dad says you’ll still get experience from practicing. Don’t you want to become a lucario one day? You can still evolve while part human. I guess it’s happening to some of the other pokemon. Er- pokehumans.” His sweet smile softened. “Besides... you’re the one who said you wanted to learn how to fight better after that day at the store.”

Stiffening up, Riley dropped his eyes with a small nod. “Yeah... I do.” He could remember clearly how helpless he’d felt when that thief had attacked. He didn’t want that to happen again... “Yeah. Okay. Let’s go, then.”

The two headed outside, where Riley’s brother, Swifty, waited in the training yard. Thomas’ brother, Swifty’s trainer, was waiting as well, shouting out a few orders to help Swifty get warmed up. Swifty looked up at the arrival and gave his brother a glaring grin. ‘Come on, Riley! Let’s see how determined you really are!’ He paused, and barked out a laugh. ‘What the heck are you wearing?!’

Decked out with protective guards on his knees, elbows, wrists, and a helmet, Riley knew he looked quite silly to his brother. “J-just never you mind! I’m ready!” He braced himself for the attack. He hated fighting. He hated it. However, sometimes, a little fighting was necessary. He didn’t want to let his boy down again. If Thomas was ever attacked again, he wanted to be able to protect him...

For the next hour, the pokemon and pokehuman danced around the ring. Swifty was landing more blows than not, and Riley was hitting air more often and not. It wasn’t long before Riley was panting heavily, his long hair falling out of the braid. Swifty was taunting the boy, laughing and teasing as he danced around the exhausted figure. ‘Come on, Riley! You can’t defend Thomas when you’re sitting on your butt like that! Come on! Defend him!’ The riolu turned and darted for Thomas, arm lifted for a punch, Thomas’ eyes widening.

And that got Riley’s attention. Watching Swifty rush his boy, Riley suddenly leapt to his feet. “Stop!” He shot forward, and threw himself in front of Thomas. As Swifty’s fist made contact with Riley’s cheek, Riley felt a burst of energy. His own fist suddenly flew up, smacking into Swifty’s jaw with double the force of Swifty’s punch. The pokemon flew backward, tumbling a few times before sliding to a halt. Riley looked down at his hand, and then over to his brother. That’d been an ability! The riolu looked at his brother with a little smirk. ‘About time, Riley. You finally learned Counter. I learned that soon after I’d hatched!’

As Swifty dusted himself off, Thomas rushed up behind Riley and yanked the pokehuman into a tight hug. “You did it, Riley! You learned a new ability! See? You can do anything! I knew it!”

Riley’s cheeks were flushed and hot. He’d done it! He’d really done it! Of course, he was still leagues behind his family. But, now... maybe he did have a chance! ...He really hoped he wouldn’t have to ever use the ability outside of training, but it made him happy to know that he could do it.

~Child Stage; AIM PD: Meeting America~

America hated how boring flying routes could be. The boy always found that the straight routes back and forth between the city stores and homes was very lack luster. He much prefered diving through the air currents above the forest trails and the mountains. The wind was much fresher and more alive there than that smog of the city. Today though he had decided that his morning errands were enough so now was time to fish. Tossing his bag over his shoulder the rufflet decided to fly away from the nasty city and back towards his forest home where the river ran.

There were some good fishing spots out that way after all and he was eager to try them. Perhaps tonight would be a good night to fry some fish for Edith and him. He smiled warmly at the thought. He already had gotten some bread and fruit for his deliveries this morning after all. That should go well with the sodapop he had also acquired for them. A rare treat and a good one at that. Another rare smile lit up the boy's face as he dove towards the trees.
Today he was determined, would be a good day!

For Riley, today actually was a good day. He'd woken up and his sister was sick! It had been her turn for a training day with him, and he'd woken up to the delightful news that there would be no training that day. Perhaps a little more pleased than he should have been, he took the opportunity to take a little trip in the woods. He'd deemed the city too dangerous, and was determined to keep himself clear of it when out alone. Still, it was nice to have alone time, and he contently walked along the edge of the river he'd found, listening to it bubble and play as it flowed along.

As America dove down from the skies he noticed a small figure moving along the river as well. But it was too late for him to fix his dive so the rufflet found himself skimming over the waters like normal with his feet running on the cool surface before he touched land. As happy as he had been in the skies America's gaze turned cold as he noticed the stranger. Another poke-human in this area? And he was...awkwardly glowing none-the-less. How strange.

Pursing his lips the boy crossed his arms stubbornly, "I don't know who you are, but this is my fishing spot." With that said he began to unpack and bring out the rod and wires he had for it. Stranger or not he had told himself he would catch some good fish for him and Edith tonight! So glowy boy could either cooperate and stay back or get America's fists if he decided to ruin this fishing spot.

While content at the time, he looked up at the sound of something overhead. He backpedaled from the river with a short yelp of surprise when the other boy seemed to fall from the sky. Oh! Another pokehuman! He relaxed long enough to walk back toward the river, but paused when he saw the cold demeanor surrounding the other boy. He blinked and looked around. There wasn't another person in sight, and he needed this specific spot? "Umm.. okay. Sorry," he murmured mekely, taking a few steps down away from the irritated boy. "You.. you get lots of fish here then? I've never fished before, so you don't have to worry about me trying to take your spot."

America just huffed as the other poke-human seemed to immediately back off. That was good since it saved him a few bruises, but at the same time it was boring too. How long had it been since he'd been in a good scruffle? Fighting all the time would make Edith worried, but sneaking in a few fights here and there kept him on edge. Plus when it came to delivering in the darker neighborhoods it was nice being able to hold his own against those idiots brave enough to fight him.

"It's fine I suppose." The boy shrugged his shoulders as his wings folded up behind him, "Last time I did..." He trailed off shiftily staring down the other boy, "But don't expect me to share any." Tossing in his line America held onto the pole tightly before glancing back over his shoulder, "Then what are you doin' this far out by yourself?" And acting like anything could kill him too. The thought made America smirk slightly before his grumpy expression settled back into place.

Riley gave a little smile when his presence was approved. Walking a little closer, he quickly raised his hands innocently. "I won't! I'm not hungry right now anyway." He clasped his hands behind his back, watching the fishing get set up with interest. "I'm just walking," he replied. No point in trying to make anything up. This guy seemed like he'd be okay. "And it's not really that far from my home."

Must be nice to say that. America just gritted his teeth though. How coule someone be so light hearted about things? Especially when it came to food...he remembered those nights when he barely had anything to give to Edith let alone for himself. Those days were what drove him to work extra hard during the day and to get as much as he could money and food wise. The last thing he would ever do was let his sister starve.

"Maybe I misjudged how good this spot was then if others are nearby." Commented America quietly, "But if you want to walk this isn't walking." He glanced back towards the boy, "It's lingerin' instead."

Seeing the mood change drastically around the boy, Riley frowned and his ears fell. What had he said? What was wrong? He looked over that where the line was in the water and shrugged. "Not too many nearby. Just my family. They like being a little isolated." His eyes rose back up, and he giggled lightly. "Well, I was walking, but then you said it was fine for me to be here, so I decided to be here for a little bit." His lips pursed slightly. "I won't be a bother. I just wanna watch. Like I said, I've never been fishing before."

Just his family was enough for America, but the boy behaved and kept his mouth closed. I suppose it could be worse. Still though he enjoyed his space and the quiet...so why this? "I don't blame them." He commented briefly before going back to fiddle with his line. Maybe if he focused more on his fishing the kid would go away. Just like some bad dream.

"I suppose so then." America just shook his head. He didn't want to waste time chasing off the kid and maybe a little part of him felt bad. Sounded like the guy didn't get the chance to get out much. "First part of fishing...is you shush. Just wait and watch. It's not too exciting I assure ya."

Reeling back in his line he checked the string once more before tossing it out. He'd see how the line went and then when all else failed he could fly over the waters with his net again. That one usually dragged up a couple of fish. Maybe by then the kid would be bored of him, "America by the way." He stated looking over his shoulder, "If you needed a name for any reason."

And then back to fishing.

His lips pursed in though, but then he nodded. Isolation wasn't so bad, considering how mean people in the town could get. The approval made him smile brightly, and he shuffled to sit a little bit closer. He nodded obediently as he was given instructions, his lips pressing shut into a smile. He was quite content sitting there, watching the calming view of the rufflet fishing. America? Looking over to the boy, his smile lit up warmly. "I'm Riley."

America's acceptance of Riley's presence was a brief nod. The silence drew over the two of them for a few moments before a tug in the water's nabbed America's attention. Instantly he was in motion and bringing up a fish from the water to put in his basket. Hah! Smirking triumphantly he forgot about Riley until he prepared to get his rod again.

Oh.

Flushing the rufflet just looked away, "Maybe you are lucky or somethin'. If you want you can stay as long as ya want. I'll just be here." With that he casually sat downa nd began to fish away again.

Thankfully tonight he'd have some real good fish to bring home to Edith! So maybe today wasn't a waste after all...despite the sudden appearance of a stranger. Not that Riley was really half bad himself. America would never admit that of course, but still today's meeting would stay in his mind. If the kid needed him then he'd be there for him. After all that's what friends did right?

Not that America would ever admit to having them of course.

Still though...

Pushing those thoughts aside America just went back to doing his thing, fishing.

~Child Stage; An Excerpt from Riley’s Journal ((of which I know nothing about))

Journal,

The other day, I met someone with two sides. One is a good side, and one is a bad side. He only has one name though! I hope I’m spelling it right, but it’s Iah. Funny that he has two sides but one name. It’s really sad, how he got two sides.

He was out in the woods when I went to get the firewood that morning. There was frost out, and he had no mittens, no hat, nothing! I helped him get a fire started, and then talked to him a little to find out more about him. He seemed really nice and friendly. Usually, people bigger than me tell me to buzz off, or would try to take the warm things I had on. He just let me help with the fire, and let me sit with him without asking for anything. I went back home to get a few things from Thomas’ dad, since nothing of mine would fit Iah. I remember being worried that Iah might leave while I was gone, but he was still there when I got back! It always feels good to help someone who needs it, but I especially felt happy to help him. I gave him gloves and a hat and two scarves, because it really was cold out, and some food. I hope he’s warm and full wherever he is now..

After giving him the clothing, he told me about his bad side. He was a cresselia, and he told me he was turned into a shadow cresselia because some scientists had been experimenting on him ever since he was a pokemon. Isn’t that terrible? I hate that my family has pretty much disowned me my whole life, but having someone experiment on you all the time? Even looks like a shadow, and he said he used to be pink! He’s right, though. Cresselia are supposed to have bright colors, but he was all sorts of gray. He also told me that *~~many words are scribbled out here~~* I don’t even like writing it, but know that someone attacked him, and his shadow side came out to fight back. If he hadn’t, I might not have been able to meet Iah, and that’s scarier than knowing what happened.

I looked up more information about what it means to become a shadow type... They’re supposed to be emotionless, fighting machines. ...My parents would probably love it if I became a shadow. Jerks. But that’s not the point. Shadow pokemon are used to do bad things... but the Iah I met wasn’t heartless. I could tell he felt horrible about what had happened. His bad side, his shadow side, isn’t who he is. The bad side came out because someone was trying to hurt him! He’s friendly and nice and he just needs someone to look out for him. Someone who can encourage his good side to stay out. He told me he’d never gotten a hug before I gave him one. He needed it so much, because he didn’t shove me away, either. I’m glad I helped him learn about hugs. I always feel better if I’m sad when if Thomas hugs me. Apparently it helped a lot, because after that, he helped me finish getting the firewood. His aura was a lot happier. I’m really glad I could help him. I feel so useless most of the time, and, for once, I felt like I made a difference. I hope I can see him again, and that I never have to see his bad side. It sounds like it would be really scary, and I can tell he doesn’t like the bad side. I hope the bad side goes away, so he can be happy all the time.

I want to help all my friends. I finally feel like I do have friends, and I want to help all of them be happy.
