WP01 - Never Idle is building something.
Open for approximately one week.

He's been at it for about three days now -- in and out of kimeti and mongoose forms, gathering bits and pieces of this and that binding them together. Cultivating plants. Weaving roots together. Eating only when he remembers and driving off supplicants with requests.

Whatever he's building, it's big, and he's trying to do it alone, but in reality...well. He needs some help.

Any volunteers?

If you're interested, he'll take a few distracted moments to rattle off a list and send you in search of some choice items...

Essential Items for Never Idle's Secret Project

A sturdy, weight-bearing branch, not too unwieldy but not too small
A good mouthful of long, sturdy grasses, for weaving
A turtleshell's worth of sticky red clay free of impurities or stones
A handful of bright red feathers
A large, round stone
A stout, fallen log
An enormous leaf at least as large as a lynx's skin, free of holes
A chunk of beeswax for sealing and waterproofing
A snack for Never Idle and his hard working familiars!

Mechanics: How To Quest

Make a new thread in the RP forum labeled [WP01] (YOURKINNAME). You may do this prompt for multiple Kin, provided you reach word count and goal with each.

Roll 2d20, and use their 'Total'. Match your results to the prompts below and RP accordingly by editing your post!

In order to fully succeed at Never Idle's quest, you will need to bring him back three items from his list above. You can roll as many times as you want until you either succeed or you reach a prompt that tells you to "try again tomorrow." In the latter situation, you can come back tomorrow and try again. Your successes from the previous day do carry over! You can keep rolling after you get three items, if you want to RP more, but you don't have to. You are also free to make as many non-roll posts in your RP as you like, to add dialogue, background, whatever you like.

Please feel free to play this solo or with a group. It's up to you! For group play, every participant has to have three successes.

When you've finished the prompt--which means you have a combined 500 words and three requested quest items--post in THE STICKY THREAD with the name of this prompt (WP01 - Never Idle's Building) and a link to your thread. You can use a link to that post as an RP requirement for Legendary or other RP-required tasks!

Some items require a team effort! For these items you can either skip and re-roll, or you can enlist the help of a friend to come and post in the thread. You may not use your own other Kin for this unless otherwise specified--you will need to go ask someone to make a post with you! They only have to make one post but feel free to make more.

  1. (void)

  2. You find the perfect branch! You get it to where it needs to go but unfortunately, moving it tuckers you out for the day. Try again tomorrow to find more things! Success!

  3. You find the still-glowing tail of some dead lizard. The rest of the carcass has been eaten. It's not what he asked for, but it sure is lovely....

  4. You become entangled almost hopelessly in a patch of bramble. Either you free yourself, or someone else does. Try again tomorrow.

  5. You secure a mouthful of long grass stems ideal for weaving. Success!

  6. You locate an especially attractive white plume, of unknown source.

  7. A pile of iridescent beetleshells, collected by some bowerbird, glistens in the underbrush.

  8. You stumble on a hitherto-undisturbed patch of sticky red clay. Success!

  9. A beautiful song pulls you away from your search. You find a fledgeling songbird, which is undergoing its first moult--the perfect age for bonding. Post a link in this thread to this roll with a note that it's for the bird drawing to be entered for a songbird!

  10. You traipse through a patch of leaves you've never seen before, and within minutes you are itchy to the knees. The itching will persist for three days, but for now on the first day it's too intense to allow focus and you feel the need for an immediate plunge into cool water. Try again tomorrow.

  11. Oh no! Your digging has unearthed an incredibly angry stoat! Best to scram--and spend the rest of the day nursing your gnawed-on ankles. Try again tomorrow.

  12. A beautiful red bird has met an unfortunate end here. Success!

  13. You hear the sound of wings startled up when you enter this clearing, but there is no bird to be seen--only a strange shift in the light, as though a thin cloud had passed over the sun although the sky is clear.

  14. A wonderfully lovely conch shell is nestled in the grass. It is strange to see this so far inland...

  15. You find a marvelously-intact shed snakeskin.

  16. A smooth, sunbleached lynx skull lies in a clearing.

  17. The jellyfish are migrating: a beautiful, luminscent, floating cloud of jellyfish high in the sky above you distracts you momentarily from your task.

  18. You find a plant of absolutely intoxicating scent, surrounded by hummingbirds. It proves impossible to transport their nectar, but nothing's stopping you from sampling some while you're here.

  19. You hear Never Idle chiding you in a strangely metallic voice: "Work faster! Work faster!" But then you realize it's only a mocking-raven, who must have grown up near the stag's place of business.

  20. You stumble on a friend and get distracted talking (either invite someone in for a few posts, or use one of your other Kin or an NPC).

  21. You locate a perfectly round, enormous boulder. It is exactly what Never Idle needs--but you're going to need help to uproot and move it. Help required. Success!

  22. You thought you found the perfect branch--but it snaps cleanly in two when you try to move it. Argh!

  23. Long, winding ribbons of paper birch bark litter the ground, carefully peeled down by some unknown kin or animal. They weren't anything he asked for, but they sure are pretty...

  24. You find an ideal log. Unfortunately, rolling it free of the bracken it's trapped in and getting it back to the construction site will require some assistance! Help required. Success!

  25. You had every intention of bringing this perfect fallen fruit back to Never Idle, but temptation won out, and you ate it yourself. Way to go.

  26. Your nosy poking around has disturbed an angry old mare, who chases you off her land. You escape without incident.

  27. A Kin has died here, perhaps this past winter. Its carcass has long since decayed to merely bones, and on a tree above its resting place someone has scrawled the symbol for a name, and a shape like a ripple in a still pool. Strangely, they have accompanied the marker with the symbol for a safe place.

  28. Some of the trees in the Swamp produce leaves as large as an animal hide. You find one now, but climbing up the roots and standing on your hindlegs to procure the perfect specimen is exhausting, and you're out of energy for the day. Try again tomorrow. Success!

  29. A four-leafed clover probably isn't any use to Never Idle, but hey, maybe finding it will bring you good luck!

  30. You find an injured mouse. You can either retrieve it as a snack for Never Idle and his cranes (Success!) or you can rescue it. If you rescue it, post a link in THIS THREAD to the post and a note that it's for the mouse, to be entered into a drawing for a mouse!

  31. You stumble accidentally on what looks like the world's most perfect swimming hole. Maybe you should make yourself some path symbols, so you can find it again--or maybe you should take a dip right now.

  32. A long-dead Grandfather tree towers over this section of the swamp. In investigating the hollows of its enormous trunk, you find a patch of luminescent fungi. If you attempt to take it, it is too bitter to hold in your mouth, and causes a strange prickling pain where it touches you.

  33. You follow the sound of buzzing to a likely-looking hive. You have options!

    • Procure a chunk of wax yourself, but spend the rest of the day nursing your stings (try again tomorrow) Success!
    • Get a friend to help you devise a means of distraction or engineering to secure a chunk of wax unharmed. Friend required. Success!
    • Reroll: this is too risky for you!
Success with this prompt enters you into a drawing for a free semicustom Giant Wasp! Post in THIS THREAD with a link to your post and a note that it's for the wasp drawing to be entered.

  34. Never Idle didn't ask you to bring back spider silk, but this perfectly-preserved web from a giant spider is too valuable to be left unattended.

  35. You find a patch of mud with a strange blue tint. It has stained the grass near its borders. Not what you were asked to find, but almost undoubtedly useful. Maybe you should let him know where it is...

  36. You think you've found a red bird feather--but on leaning nearer you discover that it is a white bird feather, doused in blood.

  37. You trip, right yourself, and trip again. Not three steps later you trip once more. You would almost swear that there's some invisible creature winding around your legs. In fact--what was that?

  38. The shell of a hatched Acha egg lies in the mud. Wobbly hoofprints totter away from it, and if you follow them, you will find that they wander into the grass alongside the hooves of many others--a happy ending for a new spring foal.

  39. A patch of wildflowers rolls down a hill. Maybe you're distracted long enough to pluck a few for a friend or a lover, or maybe flowers aren't your thing. Either way: these are of no help to Never Idle.

  40. You find something tasty for Never Idle or one of his cranes. Success!
