She didn't even give the third sunbleached lynx skull they'd seen in their search a chance. She crushed it with ferocity under her unforgiving hooves and moved on, snakeskin trailing from her swishing tail.

She got distracted by sweet little tweeting, and suspiciously and sullenly allowed herself to be drawn towards it. They encountered the romantic sight of a little baby songbird moulting and flapping its wee wings, keenly singing at them. Bitter End heaved a dramatic sigh. It was an adorable little interval that didn't quite fit in with the tone of the rest of their encounters.

Were they going in circles, or did this angry old mare just mark a lot of territory? This time End's running was more perfunctory than terrified, but the mare was as enthusiastic as ever, dogging their heels.

Sleepless' running was still pretty terrified - the old mare was quick, and she seemed angrier than ever the second time around.

Her hooves screeched to a halt at they encountered the mango tree again. This time she did not paused, and opted to snap it up almost immediately to parch her thirst from running (and to be a vindictive little doe).

Sleepless was so fed up by now, she had ceased to worry about retribution.

She hoarsely whispered into the wind, nudging the shards of an Acha egg philosophically before crushing it, burying bits and pieces into the muddy hoofprints that led away from it. She didn't ask to be born either.

She stopped at the sight of a perfectly round boulder. She was hesitant to believe her luck. Suspicious, she approached - then rapped it sharply to see if it too, would crack into two. It did not. She allowed herself a slow smirk and barked "SLEEPLESS! We're bringing this back!" and threw herself against it to start heaving it away.

Sleepless stared at the enormous rock in disbelief.
"You couldn't have just found a log or something," she said, but trotted up to push against it anyway.

After a long while of shoving and groaning, they managed to roll it back to the site. It was her first item, but at least it was her first item, and she was inordinately pleased with herself (though her shoulder was aching). Surely she would regret her impudent delight soon.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU DIE HERE EARLIER??" She screamed at the dead red bird, which just so happened to be what she needed. Even with her incredulity, she snatched it up with her jaws and shook it to dispose of any remaining life within it.
