Pandora sent out the mass text and Ripley knelt by the TV, Putting the finishing touches on the connection. Watching the going-ons was one thing, but to be able to watch them on a beautiful flat screen tv? Even better.

"And~ Done." He set his phone down and turned the TV back to it's proper form, just in time to see the water level begin to rise, along with a vague shot of a very disgruntled short kid in a beanie.

"...Well s**t. Otto's doomed." He recalled the younger boy's distinct lack of swimming skills, and he shook his head sadly. Otto better not make him bury him again.

It wasn't fun.

Pandora was sprawled upside-down on Otto's nice new couch, phone in front of her face. It was only when the faint announcements became a surround-sound blare from the television that she put the gadget aside and looked up toward Ripley with a smile.

"You must be really handy with a universal remote," she teased.

The camera cut dizzily around the room as hunters began the grueling swimming challenge. One by one they were picked up by the current and whisked toward an exit.

"It's probably all staged," Pandora laughed, motioning for Ripley to sit beside her. No one had died last time. It only served to reinforce the bubble that separated her from reality. No one would die this time, either, because after all, it was just a training exercise. A little game show. Perfectly harmless in the long run. "Maybe it's a collaboration between the scythe-wielding teacher and Mr. Pokemon. You know, tall, red hair, ambiguously Japanese?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:04 pm

Ripley brushed his knuckles on his shoulder, grinning. "You have no idea." His attention turned back to the screen as he took one step back, and then another, watching idly as his comrades and friends were swept away towards different exits. He didn't envy them.

"I hope it is." He didn't quite share Pandora's optimism, mostly because the last time something unexpected happened he had nearly died himself. Yet he didn't think it had been televised like this one, so, perhaps there was some merit to her words. She beckoned him to join her and he did, taking the seat next to her and picking up the - well, the universal remote, actually.

He had to give some thought as to who she meant, but he suspected he had an idea. "Right. They seem to have the right screws loose to do this." On that he could agree, nodding lightly to himself. "Wait - why do you call him Mr. Pokemon?" It was probably important to note that he didn't really watch much television or play many games. At all.

"By the way; thank you, for saving my life. It's beyond belated, but you know..." Things happened. He really had tried to find her though. His life meant a lot to him, and she did risk her own to save his, he was sure of it. "Also. My name is Ripley." It was beyond belated, all things considered, but he held a gloved hand out to her regardless. "Nice to meet you without stress."

She had never intended to visit the grand reopening of the portal because Alaska didn’t have much of an interest in winning a vacation. She could always take a day off another time. It wasn’t that she was itching to leave the island. There was only one place on her mind she would want to visit, but unfortunately the island would never let Alaska. So instead she holed herself up in her room, hunched over a sketchbook as she drew random figures. Her phone vibrated quietly and she leaned over to pick it up and read the message. “….Oh?” The revelation caused her to quirk an eyebrow. It must be quite the game show if someone decided to mass text everyone. Now just who was this Otto person…?

It took her a good ten minutes to find the right room, but eventually she slid through the open door and leaned herself against the wall to stare at the other two in the room. “So, how’s it going?” she wondered with raised eyebrows. Bright green eyes strayed toward the screen. “…?” Eyes narrowed as she craned her neck forward as one by one, familiar faces began to appear. “Wait, is that—…” Did she even want to know? Something told her probably not.

In hindsight, it might have been a good idea to double-check what "everyone" meant. Or select everyone and quietly delete a couple names. Either way, those watching the games would realize that Aria had invited herself into Otto's room and dropped down onto the couch.

"So, anyone want to brief me on what's happened so far?" Aria asked as she twisted a towel around her hair, squeezing it dry while looking at the assembled hunters expectantly.

SUMMARY OF EVENTS OF THE HUNTER ROYALE, BROADCAST TO EVERY PHONE IN DEUS*:

*and Otto's TV

[Please note that portions of the following would not be visible to spectators, but is included for an OOC summary. These portions are any time the cameras go 'dark' or are turned off.]

All of the game's participants wake up, encased separate transparent cylinders. They are each wearing a cuff that glows red, which seals access to their weapons, preventing summoning and muting the weapons' voices.

A countdown begins. Water floods quickly into the room, the level rising against their enclosures. The unfamiliar voice is more muffled as the water fills the space around them, and it stops counting down to explain:

"Once the water has fully reached the tip of your cylinder, you may begin. You call yourself Hunters, but you devour yourselves completely. You are incomplete, you are unwholesome, you will destroy yourselves. We are only here to prove what you already know, to broadcast to the rest of this island these events happening, to every cell phone, to every Hunter not here with you, to each of your precious Division Leads and Assistants. You are fallible and will destroy yourselves. You will destroy yourselves. I will allow from your group five victors. These victors will walk free, unharmed. All other fallen will be our prisoners. If there are more than five victors, then all of you will instead, be killed. The serpent consumes what needs to be consumed."

It states that there will only be five victors, who will be freed at the end. All of the others will be killed or kept as prisoners. There can be no more than five victors, or they will all die.

When the participants fell into the water, they were forced to either swim into four tunnels (north, south, east, west) or drown.

Group Alpha
found themselves on an artificial beach, the cement ceiling high above them. The sand covered a 50 x 50 area, and small 3 to 4 ft pools were scattered throughout it. Each pool glowed a different color.

The cuffs beeped and blinked a message at the surface: Kill just one and you will save everyone.

The pools began to sparkle, revealing weapons within them. A red pool reflected a gun-like weapon. A blue one what looked like a glorified cattle prod. A yellow one revealed a tin with a first aid sign on it. The green and violet one was empty.

Sam and Charlotte then approached them, explaining that the water in the pools would injure anyone who touched it, as evidenced by the welts on Sam's arm. Charlotte demonstrated how to retrieve the weapons from the pools by tying a loop in her scarf and using it to fish the item out of a pool. Meanwhile, Sam pulled Otto aside to say that she missed him and that she hoped he would protect her like he usually did. She then leaned in to whisper that she had 'the key', and that Otto would have to protect them at all costs so she could get them all out.

Group Beta
washed up on what appeared to be a series of tiles, in an unstable room that occasionally shook and rattled. The tiles had a variety of colored painted on them - circle, square, diamond, pentagon, star, in red, yellow, green, blue, and orange - all randomly arranged.

Each was on a different 5 x 5 tile: Ian on a blue square, Roland on a red circle. Jack on an orange pentagon, Cass on a yellow diamond, and Finn on a green star.

Their bracelets beeped and flashed a message: Kill just one and you will save everyone.

There was an exit to the north. They would have to jump to move between tiles, and the gaps between them dropped into a bottomless hole.

Group Delta
ended up in a tall, thin corridor, and the door closed behind them, locking them into a hallway. The end of the hallway had one passage to the right, and one to the left, which extended in different directions as they went on.

Their bracelets buzzed with flashing red text: Kill just one and you will save everyone.

They were trapped in a maze, and their only option was to move through it to find the end. There was no visible sign of an exit.

Group Omega
fell onto a literal pile of weapons. There were piles of runic daggers, swords, guns, and almost any imaginable weapon in the room, which appeared more like a waste disposal site than a weapons cache. There was a door at the far end of the room, which was locked.

Their bracelets began to flash red text: Kill one and you will save everyone.

Cabinets lined the walls of the room, all closed, each a different color. Above them was a strange marking on the ceiling, which looked like a circle with a groove in it.

Group Phi
found themselves in what looked like a very small storage container, with Mark shouting and poking at them. There was only a tiny dim light in the room.

Mark had two runic daggers, which he stabbed into the ground in front of him, then began to tie a wire between the two. He instructed the others to retrieve more runic weapons for him, stating that he had a goal to 'boom and stuff' so they could 'bail'.

Their bracelets flashed: Kill just one and you will save everyone.

The room was connected to a long hallway, which led to a hole with runic weapons buried in the dunes. Mark told them to be careful, because the room was the only portion of the area that was blind to surveillance. Anything in the room was not visible to the cameras.

PostPosted: Fri Nov 29, 2013 4:47 pm

Group Alpha:

Ami volunteered to go first and tried to fish the item out of the blue pool, successfully retrieving the runic zapper from the bottom
Otto attempted to get an item from one of the pools, and pulled a runic gun from it
Gale dipped his scarf into the yellow pool and fished out runic bandages
Sam noticed something at the bottom of a white pool, which glittered gold, unlike the weapons
Gale knelt by the pool to get a closer look
Sam lowered her scarf into the water, like they’d done with the others, but it began to immediately fizzle and dissolve
Gale tried his own scarf in the water, testing to see if moving more quickly might help
Sam suggested trying a runic weapon to retrieve it
Ami fell into the water and sank into it, despite Sam and Charlotte’s attempts to save her
After Ami completely disappeared, Sam pointed out a bloody dagger that was tucked into the back of Lawr’s sash, and asked where he got it
Lawr said that he had been set up
Charlotte encouraged everyone to explore the area and check the pools for any keys or runics
Otto walked towards the east wall, scouring the area for any signs of something that might help
The dagger Lawr held made a sparking sound, like the sound of a charged runic weapon
Lawr stood up and moved to try and stab the dagger into Sam’s back
Gale found a strange crack against the wall that looked like it had been recently broken into, hastily covered with mortar
There was ripped fabric against the wall that looked like it could be another hunter’s coat
Otto found a portion of wall made of sand, which crumbled to reveal a long stone slab with writing along the side: Sacrifice one and you can pass.
Sam moved enough for the dagger to barely cut her, and began screaming loudly, saying that Lawr tried to kill her too
Charlotte tied Lawr’s arms with the runic bandages to prevent him from attacking anyone, then ran to call Otto and Gale back to the group
When Otto joined the group, he pointed the runic gun at Lawr’s head and fired
The shot didn’t kill Lawr, and he was still conscious, but his hair was a mess of blood
Charlotte asked what the bracelets meant by ‘sacrifice one’
Sam explained that it was a trick that had been similarly used in the trials she graduated from, and that the ‘one’ doesn’t mean any person, it means one specific person
Mark emerged from one of the pools

Group Delta:
Lucky was surprised to find a gun in his pocket
As they discussed who should go first, there was a whooshing noise, and water began to steadily fill the hallways
The water level was now at their ankles, and was climbing fast
Peyton began moving through the maze
Taym followed her
The water in the room had risen to their knees, and there was a strange electric noise in the distance
Kostya opted not to follow Peyton and broke away from the group to progress through the maze
Lucky followed Kostya
Taym separated from Peyton to continue through the maze
Lucky pulled the gun out of his pocket, noticed it had a note that said: Those who serve will still be rewarded.
Lucky pointed the gun at Kostya and pulled the trigger
There was a loud ‘bang’
The bullet hit Kostya in the shoulder, and dark red blood began to dribble from the wound
Peyton found her way to the end of the maze
Lucky tried to drown Kostya by holding his head beneath the knee-deep water
Kostya stopped screaming or struggling and sunk into the water until it felt like Lucky might get sucked in with him if he didn’t let go
Next to the door that Peyton found was a button and a sign that said: PRESS TO EXIT AND PURGE ROOM.
Lucky began to continue through the maze until he also made it to the end
Taym made it to the end of the made, and told Peyton to push the button
Peyton pushed the button
Water began to flood the maze as a door behind Peyton opened, revealing a staircase
At the top of the stairs was a shallow room that only contained a series of switches, with a sign at the top: One switch will free, one will kill, one will do nothing.
The switches were blue, green, and red
Lucky suggested for them to each flip a switch at the same time, and Peyton and Taym agreed
They flipped all of the switches at the same time
The room went dark, no longer visible to any viewers as well
Someone whispered for them to come with him, followed by a brief flicker of light that looked like a laser pointer aiming in one direction
The whisperer asked if they had seen Sam, then led them directly to group Omega

Group Beta
Cass, Jack, Finn, Ro, and Ian started to jump from tile to tile until they made it to the exit
The door opened when all of them made it to the end, revealing a box that held one roll of Runic bandages
Beyond the box, the hallways seemed wet and made of thick stone
There were puddles of dark liquid at their feet
Jack began to experimentally tap the slabs that made up the hallways
Ian picked up the bandages and began to look at the puddles on the floor
Poisonous gas began to spew from the places that Jack tapped, corroding his skin where it came into contact with it
Cass dipped her hand in the liquid to see what it was
Finn examined the box that held the runic bandages, then picked it up to check beneath it
There was a note wedged inside the box:
"One of your group has a concealed weapon and yet they did not tell anyone else. What happens to the rest when every single other option runs dry?"
The puddle began to flicker as Ian examined it, and made a loud crackle as Cass touched it
Cass was paralyzed
The wall, still partially covered in poisonous gas, began to shake and slowly close in
Finn checked for a pulse from Cass
Finn and Jack each took one of Cass’ arms and began to carry her
As they tried to move on, they discovered a long pool that crackled with electricity between them and the exit
Finn and Jack dumped Cass into the water to make a human bridge and crossed over her
Cass lost consciousness
Ian crossed over the water using Cass’ body, then took the passage to the right
Finn followed Ian to the right
Jack took the right passage with them
Ro used Cass as a bridge and walked to the other side of the water
As they all passed through the end of the walls, they closed in together with a thud. A strange whoosh sound followed as torrents of blood began to rain in around them.
The door opened after Roland took the keys without even needing to be unlocked, and closed behind him after he went through it. The room inside had a lot of switches in it, but the primary six each had a different color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. A sign over the switches said: Only two will lead to your freedom.
Though Roland couldn’t see out, the rest of the group could see in.

Group Omega:
Stormy tried to rouse everyone, selected a stave from the pile of weapons, and examined the marking on the ceiling
The ceiling marking cast a long shadow that currently pointed south
Abbi picked a gun and tried the east cabinet
Thousands of scorpions emerged from the cabinet and stung her
Mimsy chose a scythe and checked a cabinet, which was locked
Stormy checked the south cabinet
Melvin selected a gun
The south cabinet opened. Inside was a very tiny key and a note:
Rin
Cassandra
Ami
Ian
Jason
Abigale
Lucky
Chel tried the orange/west cabinet
Outside the windows was a loud clunk, and the shadows on the ceiling shifted to face east. The cabinets being investigated were all locked again. A strange ticking noise began to come from the bottom of the pile of weapons.
Stormy cautiously approached the east cabinet and tried to unlock it with the key she’d found
The cabinet unlocked and open, music began to blare, and a voice began to speak:
"There is a beginning and an end and a beginning. Everything is a circle, what created you as Hunters will undo you as Hunters. A test once used for survival is now used for greed. These are no longer nameless faces that you fight against. These are what you your allies. And yet, you are faced with a perplexing problem. There are six in this room and only five may leave. Is it better to stay with your allies and die together a terrible death or abandon all morale and leave one behind?"
The shadows shifted to point north, and the ticking noise grew louder
Melvin and Dory attacked the scorpions in the room
Mimsy tried to attack Abbi, but stopped short of her
Abbi sliced Mimsy with a dagger she’d been hiding, then spoke towards the ceiling to say ‘they seem to be exactly what they think they are’
The dagger did nothing at first, then emitted a loud spark and flung itself into Mimsy’s knee, sparkling wildly
Mimsy screamed in pain and thrashed on the ground
Chel tried to pull the dagger out, but it shocked her
Melvin tried to pull the dagger out, and was also shocked
Mimsy lost consciousness
Abbi explained that she had been given the dagger by a man who told her that it would only stun the person it was used on
Chel defended Abbi
Stormy checked the north cabinet, trying to unlock it with the key
The cabinet opened and contained a screen viewable only from her angle
It showed static at first, then a camera feed of Ian, Wilson, Finn, Solomon, Jack, and Milo, in the hall with the cells
The camera view then switched to show underneath the floor, revealing that they stood on a pit of spikes
A timer began to count down from 10 minutes
The screen showed static, then: You can save them if you sacrifice one impure Hunter.
Stormy began to carefully dig into the pile of weapons to find the source of the ticking
The ticking stopped when she uncovered a pair of night vision goggles, at which point everything went dark
With the goggles on, Stormy snuck up behind Melvin, covered his nose and mouth, and tried to cut his throat
Melvin went down easily, then sunk into the floor until his body was entirely gone
A door opened at the far end of the room
Stormy found the remaining three and led them out of the room

Group Phi:

Solomon, Wilson, and Rin began to gather runics out of the dunes
Solomon handed over the 4 runic weapons to Mark
After Solomon delivered the items, the room went dark, followed by five loud red blasts
Mark panicked and said they needed to move, but was grabbed by chains and disappeared
Solomon tried to wire some of the remaining objects together
The shed began to shake, leaving them with no option but to desert it and move back to the dunes
Something shifted beneath the sand, making odd patterns on the surface
Something then burst from the sand, leaving a long, narrow hole in its wake, taking Rin with it
Solomon peered into the hole to see how far it went
A loud scream came from somewhere within the hole, louder and louder, with the occasional crunch of bone mixed in
Solomon jumped into the hole
The hole was shallow, dark, narrow, but walkable
The screaming stopped, but there was now a thrumming, like methodical machinery
Solomon continued towards the crunching noise
Milo jumped into the hole and listened to the sound
The bracelet beeped and lit up as the corridor began to echo with the mechanical sound
The message on it said: TOO LATE
There was an infernally loud squelching noise
At the end of the tunnel was a large cavern that seemed to be made out of strange, unrecognizable organic material, with a base filled of red liquid
The noise was coming from a strange machine in the center, which had an unrecognizable human arm sticking out of it
Blood and a thick pink paste churned out of the other end of the machine
Wilson waited outside of the hole and called into it to ask if they were coming back out or staying in it
Everything then caved in until Milo, Sol, and Wilson were in the same room, which began to shrink inward towards the meat grinder
Just as it was small enough for the blood to cover their heads, it collapsed, and they fell into a space below them

"Most, if not all, of our friends? Yes. That's them." He answered th woman he didn't recognize. At first it sounded like a joke, but now...not to much. The various screen changes, the shots of those who had been murdered, that ominous button...they couldn't be faked. This looked way too real. This wasn't right.

"Someone's making them fight, the five to win will be freed, everyone else is dead or kept as prisoners." Ripley explained, feeling a little awkward to see a division lead there with them. It was something akin to seeing teachers outside of school, for some reason. He nodded towards the screen, trying to keep his voice calm. "And it's happening very, very quickly." His friends were down there, and they were now murderers, steps away from getting murdered themselves.

He didn't know what to do. This whole situation made him feel incredibly helpless.

"This is real, isn't it? Where are they? Is there anything we can do to stop this?"

Bright green eyes stared at the large screen as it switched between different shots, angles, faces. Most of them were unfamiliar to her. Others she remembered seeing around different parts of the island or on other missions. Muscles stiffened when she caught saw of a familiar set of tattoos, but other than pursed lips, Alaska looked calm as usual. As the mist division leader had chosen to make herself comfortable on the couch, she too decided to slide into an empty spot.

The sun hunter shot a glance to Ripley, and after his brief explanation of sorts, nodded her head. “I think they were at the portal? I noticed that…Mark, was there, and I think another assistant. Mark has uh, disappeared from the game for the time being, though,” Alaska added.

“Games were never meant to be dragged out too long. It has to be high-paced,” she explained calmly, leaning forward with elbows propped on her legs. “It doesn’t surprise me, though. We had to do something similar just to get here in the first place. The potential has and will always be there.” Her eyes narrowed. “Admittedly, I don’t know who set this up and I don’t know why. As far as I can see, these deaths will be pointless. A way to...help may be best, if possible.” What a roundabout way of agreeing with Ripley, but okay.

"But we're already on the island, and there doesn't seem to be many of us, so why host another Battle Royale?" This island would never make sense to him. He'd already had a hard enough time trying to accept that they didn't give weapons training to people who clearly never held a weapon in their lives. Let alone put them through what Alaska made seem was a common purge.

"I'm Ripley, by the way." He introduced himself quickly to the woman he didn't recognize, not quite comfortable with having a conversation on this scale without knowing names. At the moment he was sitting down, but leaning forward enough to have his elbows on his knees, his hands linked and worrying. "And what kind of organization takes their own as prisoners, after having the rest turn on them?" He glanced back at the screen as often as he could, worrying for the sake of his friends. This wasn't adding up, and it didn't make any sense at all.

"Aside from Halloween and the Horsemen, do we have any enemies? Can you think of anyone who could have orchestrated this?" A leg started to fidget, the only real clue that he was a lot more worried - almost panicked, really - than his voice suggested.

Nevada yawned as she came up to Otto's room, beckoned by TV, Popcorn and such. She didn't notice Aria right away, but had she, she would've dipped like the mist she was suppose to be.

Instead she circled in, took a seat into the pillow pile, gathering it all together and stared at the screen...

"Chelsea is in there..." Oh so that must be what Jack was talking about...One ye narrowed on the TV while she slid her hand through her hair. "What even..."

At first, Aria was preoccupied with drying her hair vigorously. The movements stilled and slowed as the trainees spoke up and offered their knowledge. The division leader settled the towel around her shoulders, giving the television a long look before looking back at the trainees. "Everyone who is selected to become a hunter undergoes a trial," she began, "But they're conducted in golems. Never in person, and if someone's already a hunter then they're usually not in there in person. They usually get a golem. But this..."

The division leader trailed off, leaning back on the couch. Her phone was in her hands as she fired off text messages, glancing up. "Dead or prisoners... s**t. It could be just about anyone. The world isn't black or white, or gray either. If we rally up and charge in it could be a trap. Or, if the ones we're watching aren't being used as bait then one wrong step from us could get them all killed."

Aria tilted her head to one side, considering. "I missed the beginning of this due to a Titan coming too close to Deus that needed to be taken care of. By the way, I'm Aria. Mist lead. Nice to meet you."

She looked down at her phone, then looked up again. "If any of you recognize someone on television, I suggest you try calling them. If we get a response, then what we're watching isn't live. If we don't get one..." The division leader trailed off, feeling as if she didn't need to finish the thought.

Aria did spare Nevada a quick judgmental glance, however.

Alaska paused, leaning into the couch as she tried to recount the beginning of the games. “Remember the announcement at the start?” she said with arms crossed. “They said ‘you’ were hunters, and then referred to themselves as ‘we.’ Could they not identify as hunters?”

She nodded at Ripley. “Alaska, and unfortunately I don’t know who else would want to orchestrate all of this. It doesn’t feel like they could be from Halloween. They would definitely go about this a different way, don’t you think?” A glance at her younger twin. “Nice of you to join us, Nevada.”

The sun trainee pursed her lips together. “But we don’t know it’s not real during the trials. The potential is there. But anyways, do we even know where this is? Is this even on the island? If the portals were reopened today, they could be potentially anywhere.”

Upon Aria’s suggestion, she took out her phone, but paused. “Do these phones get reception everywhere? Can you block a text somehow?”

Dylon walked into the fancy room, making an impressed noise at how nice these full hunter rooms got. So jealous! The Moon trainee, phone in hand as he;d been watching the 'show', stood behind the couch and looked around at the gaggle that had gathered in the absent hunter's dorm.

"Ah! Nevada!" He grinned having recognized her, smiling and waving like a dweeb.
